G5 wont identify my monitor?!?

I just got my first G5, and i plugged in my old pc monitor for it through dvi to vga cord. Well the picture works, but i cant get my monitor to be identified so i could use my monitors 1440 x 900 resolution. I can choose from various resolutions but the 1440 x 900 is missing.
My motiror is currently running 1280 x 768 @ 60 Hz, but its kind of 'dummy' looking compared to 1440.
So how could i get my monitor identified?

Hi-
Welcome to Discussions!
That particular resolution isn't supported:
http://ati.amd.com/products/radeon9600/radeon9600prome/specs.html
You may be able to set a custom resolution using SwitchResX:

It is most likely Adobe Flash that you need. Unfortunately, Firefox for mobile does not support flash, yet. that will be changing soon in Firefox 13 for Mobile. [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/mobile/13.0a2/auroranotes/ http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/mobile/13.0a2/auroranotes/] and [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687265 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687265]. Hopefully this will be released in the next few months, or you can try the Aurora build!

  • Columns wont adjust to monitor size

I've created a container inside my div that is holding three columns (sidebar1, maincontent, sidebar2). Whenever I adjust the size of my screen/view/workspace to be smaller sidebar 2 runs into main content.
How do I keep all three columns fixed so when my screen size changes they constrain together in proportion?
I'm new to this so please critique and excuse my messy html:

IDs are unique identifiers. They cannot be used more than 1 time per page.  Why don't you use HTML5?  It's simpler than what you have now.

  • USB 3.0 Dock not identifying primary monitor at startup

I've seen an issue recently where the Thinkpad USB 3.0 dock has trouble recognizing an external display that is set as the pirmary monitor. In this scenario, the laptop display is being used as an extended display and an external monitor attached to the dock using DVI is set as the primary. Upon startup the Lenovo splash screen displays on the laptop monitor (this is normal) and then afterwards the laptop monitor displays a purple screen and the external monitor goes into power saving mode. A blank purple screen is what is displayed on all extended monitors when Windows 8.1 is at the lock screen, which itself displays on which ever monitor is the primary.
At this point you are unable to do anything since the lock screen cannot be seen, and are required to hard reboot. After hard rebooting the issue typically clears up. This issue is occurring aftering doing a proper shutdown in Windows 8.1. In the case the laptop is a Yoga 2 Pro but I have also seen it occur on a Lenovo X1 Carbon, which leads me to believe this is a dock/software issue.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes - did you ever find a solution? I tried updating the Displaylink driver.

When i push menu on monitor it says monitor is going to sleep. My keyboard an mouse do nothing they are both wireless, the device that controls the mouse an keyboard don't light up. Over the past few weeks i have been messing with the device manager to try an get my Linksys router to work with no luck. Not sure if this could have something to do with it? However i can't even log on to see settings. Just a pure black screen during start up F1 keys at start up don't work nothing does. I know nothing about opening the PC up ( can't even take the screws out, it looks like it needs a special kind of tool). Any help or suggestions about what might be the problem would be great. • Moved G5 and now it wont detect the monitor?

    Hello,
My father has brought his G5 to my house and when we plugged it all in and turned it on it boots ok but displays nothing on the monitor.
He does not have the keyboard or mouse with him just the tower and monitor. I have a spare apple keyboard and mouse both wireless.
We have tried different ports etc but there is no difference at all. This model has 2 DVI connections on the back.
Is there anything we can do to get the screen working?
Any help at all would be appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Luke.

    Older meanings...
Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • MSI K9N 570 v.1 , just wont post to monitor

Hi all and Aloha from Hawaii,
My MSI K9N 570 everything works and all new, but when it is put on it just won't post to monitor.
Checked everything all over again, still same problem. Can't even get it to post so to do all that needed to
get it going.  Like to get another one too, maybe someone has an extra to get rid of. I have CPU's and all that
but looking for another one that works as for I have another build to do.
I got to like the K9N because it fits my case and I can add many more things to it. If anyone has an extra they dont want let me know and send a reply or post and I'll contact you back. Back here in Hawaii not to much parts to get
    unless ordered.
K9N SLI 570 v.1 ..... AMD  AM2 CPU . This one has dual PCIe Slots for Video cards.
Thanks to all this forum for alot of good worth while advice also.

,  , Aloha glad to hear from you and .... ( Mahalo Nui Loa ) to you,
Fredrik, Where you at are you locally placed? Anyway yeh all it does is come on, but not even the CPU gets warm, I think I be looking for a new mobo soon. It was free though.
I have everything for another one so I be looking around. I Like the MSI mobo's because they fit in good and are sotra
big and look good in the case.  Trying to find out how to get another worth while mobo, but I dont game so a good dependable one will do. Have a good amount of AM2 CPU's and 939 also. Intel core duo's and some AM2 Quad 4's.
Have a whole shoe box of Memory sticks from scoring at times. So I dont have any problems with parts now. I also
have (2) Old Dragon case's, (2) - Alienware 2001 cases with the name on the front cover and couple more different cases
Also have a older  ASUS A8V- Deluxe with a ...( AGP XFX 256 video card ), and it works fine but thats kinda old too.
I dont know how to operate to use Newegg, the website. Never tried, so have to learn what to do to get a contact.
The rig I am doing now is for a Cooler Master HAF 932 case I bought for .... $30.00 from a guy here. The Power unit works fine and he gave me a video card free a .... ( ATI Radeon HD3850PG3-D3(R) ), it works too.  He is swell, and told me the Zotac  Quad MoBo in it might be dead or the , PU, or the CPU, but turn out all for 30.00 bucks so not to bad of a deal.  This site helps alot too with the information they give out and is really good. Well thanks for the reply and if you are near get to me for my email.

  • After using Canon Digital Photo Professional Adobe Camera Raw cannot identify my Monitor again.

  • Macbook Pro with Retina wont detect monitor on mini display port to dual-link dvi adapter

So after reading Jeff Atwood's post, I decided to jump and give it a shot. So this week I got my monitor in from Korea, and I already had my Apple mini display port to dual-link dvi adapter, hooked everything up - and nothing. Monitor doesnt show a signal, and no display shows up in user preferences.
To verify the monitor actually works, i plugged it into my windows box - and boom, right away there it is in all its glory. So I called apple support, after spending about an hour going through the "are you sure its plugged in stuff", the tech finally admitted to being stumped and blamed the adapter. Not to be deterred, I then went to my local apple store and talked them into trying their adapter to rule out the adapter - regardless of the adapter, the mbp wont detect the monitor.
Just for fun, i tried my old single mini displayport to single dvi, the monitor is recognized, but that obviously cant drive the right resolution, so i just get a backlight. Same deal when i try the hdmi port with a hdmi to dual-link dvi adapter on the end of it. Also tried display port to the same hdmi with adapter on it (the joys of working in a dev shop - cables to test everywhere)
I have read / tried a ton of things:
re-installed / uninstalled air display, just to be sure it was gone. went through all my apps just to see if there is anything like this i could think would be effecting it
install gfxCardStatus to ensure i am on the nvidia (discrete) and not the internal card
Played with different settings on SwitchResX to try to force the res over hdmi - no love - os rejected each one
I bought the monoprice adapter wondering if it was just the apple adapter since the apple adapter has been panned, no love from it either
    Reset the PRAM countless times
I have two other adapters coming in to test with in a day or two - maybe one of those will be magic, but at this point i kinda think its software on the mac. My Spec:
I am running Mountain Lion with all the latest updates
New MBP with Retina (2.6g processor, 16gig ram, nvidia video card)
Here is the ebay link to the monitor
Now the other weird thing is pretty much universally these auctions say the monitors cant be run on a laptop - which makes no sense to me, because its just a connection, if the video card is strong enough (which my machine better be) it shouldnt matter the source. The listing mentions its a "by-pass" monitor, which is something I and google have never heard of.
So any sage words to make my day?

Magic was, I have to have the adpter plugged into the mac, let it recognize all with the monitor powered off.
then power on the monitor, and boom gloriousness
For future generations, setup that works:
    1) MacBook Pro with Retina
    2) Monitor From Korea (example auction)
    3) Accell Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Active adapter (amazon)
    4) Boot mac, plug in adapter, let it recognize the monitor, power on monitor

  • My laptop wont start..

    Hello @khuletz,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand that your notebook will not successfully power on, and that there is a blinking CAPS Lock button on the keyboard. I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To determine the significance behind the blinking light pattern, I suggest following the steps in this document on Computer does not start and the LEDs blink or the computer beeps. This should help identify the issue causing the blinking light on your notebook.
Please re-post with the pattern of blinking lights, and I look forward to your reply!

  • How to blank laptop screen when using external monitor/

    Hi there
I need some help with figuring out how to configure my xorg.conf for my Arch Linux 64 bit installation on a HP Pavilion dv 5000 laptop so that I can automatically blank my laptop screen when using an external monitor.  I have Arch Linux installed along with Ubuntu Feisty.  In Ubuntu my external monitor (Viewsonic 1912WB) was not detected at the time of installation but with the native 1280X800 resolution that is good for the laptop takes effect for the external monitor automatically when the external monitor is plugged in.  The laptop monitor goes blank when the external monitor is plugged in.
In my Arch Linux installation I have not been able to configure a dual head configuration using the ATI Radeon drivers (fglrx).  I have the native 1280X800 resolution set up for the laptop monitor and this resolution takes effect for the external monitor also.  However the laptop monitor also continues to function when the external monitor is plugged in.  I would like to blank the laptop monitor when using the external monitor.
I am attaching my Arch Linux xorg.conf and the Ubuntu xorg.conf below.  Thanks for anyone who can help, I am having a lot of difficulty in figuring out how to set up xorg.conf among all the things that I have had to learn so far in Linux and I am a relative newcomer to the whole thing. I have tried to compare the two xorg.conf files and edit my Arch xorg.conf in accordance with the Ubuntu one but it did not work and I keep getting errors!
I am using XFCE as my Desktop environment.
