Games speeding up randomly!

After installing a K7N420 mobo with 1900XP proc. and 256DDR ram I find that occasionally, games speed up (around x 5 speed).  The games in question are IL-2 Sturmovik and Warcraft III.  I have heard of someone with the same mobo getting this problem on Sturmovik, but didn't find out if this issue was resolved.
Restarting the game fixes this problem, but was wondering if anyone has encountered this?
(My graphics card is an Asus V7700 Geforce 2 Pro)

I'm in the process of obtaining Win XP, so hopefully this problem will disappear.  The reason I haven't switched already is that I've had little or no problems with Win 98SE and if it aint broke, etc.
(By the way, I'm using an external modem)

  • Command and Conquer Game Speed

Hi guys, recently i bought command and conquer from the psn store for ps3, tried playing it and game speed seems to be stuck on very fast with no option to lower it. Game is difficult enough to play with a controller let alone at super-speed. Been looking around the forums and can't find a fix for this, has anyone managed to lower the game speed?

You can try deleting the GAMEDATA and redownload it.

  • Ghost Recon Fast Game Speed

Anyone know about the problem with Ghost Recon with nforce boards? It send the clock speed through the roof and the game is unplayable as its so fast - you can run the length of the map in Anyone any experience of this problem? Would like to get back to playing GR now that I have upgraded MB but doesnt seem likely at the mo.

GO to the ghostrecon.com page and tech support forum.
Type in "game speed" into search window and look at JJ moderator comment. He says :

The problem is with the nForce chipset, which was not available when GR was being tested. We have notified nVidia about the problem, and a fix should be out shortly.
    Read the Ghost Recon FAQ!
I am not aware of a fix yet and am surprised no one here heard of this problem.
I checked the FAQ but the link is dead so thought ask you guys for advice.
I used Live Driver to d/l latest VGA driver (29.19 I think) but it still goes wappy. After shutting down GR it still runs at break neck speed like my computers on crack!

  • Very slow broadband speed and random disconnection...

I have a problem with my home hub and broadband connection. The download speed is ridiculously low at only 768 kbits per second. I have been running speed tests all week and the speed has been getting gradually slower and slower starting at around 1.4mbits and lowering to between 0.4 and 0.8 mbps. The broadband is also losing connection every so often.
This has been happening for a few weeks now, ever since the broadband and phone lights on my Hub turned orange, then continually flashed orange, went green then went off and then back to orange, flashed orange, then green then off and this cycle repeated until I restarted my Hub. Upon restarting the power light turned solid red and did not change. So I restarted it again. This time it rebooted properly (or so it seems to have). Before this the hub was (still slow) around 2mbps although this was much better than the speed now.
I have a BT home hub version 1.5. I am on Bt Broadband option 3 meaning I should have unlimited broadband. Reason why I am asking for help is I am getting lag when ever I play games on My xbox 360 or browse on my laptop.  Im in scotland, dundee in the DD2 post code area if that matters.
I have not tried plugging directly into the main telephone socket yet but as I have been using BT for well over 4 years and not had as little speed as this Im doubtful its due to interferance.
Any help would be fantastic. I just want to be able to play my **bleep** xbox again
Here is the DSL information. I have recently restarted my Hub (due to the broadband cutting out again). This is why the uptime is so low.

Quick update: Well, I moved my hub and have plugged it into the master test socket... Couldn't connect at all wirelessly, so I had to phone up the BT helpline, they changed the wireless channel and I got on after that (however the assistant said that my plugging into the socket should not have disabled the wireless.) As for the speed, well, needless to say there is little to no improvement. I cannot post my DSL stats, as I cannot even connect to my home hub via the ip address and the bthomehub.home address as the connection times out.
The speedtester on the other hand is working. Here are those results:
    1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
    Download Speed
    409 Kbps
    0 Kbps
    500 Kbps
    Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 409 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 100-500 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :4704 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 500 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 8.62:28.39:63.06 (SBE:NBEBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
    2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
    Upload Speed
    307 Kbps
    0 Kbps
    448 Kbps
    Max Achievable Speed
    >Upload speed achieved during the test was - 307 Kbps
     Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 448 Kbps
I have noticed that the DSL downstream speed has shot up remarkably (by about 4000) since plugging it in to the test socket, but for some reason, the IP profile is still very low, I would have expected it to have went up at least a little but it has remained the same for the past 2 days now should I be concerned with this or give it some more time?
Oh and I have an engineer coming to the house on friday, turns out when my parents were installing the broadband accelerator they inadvertently knocked out the wires to the extensions and now none of the extensions in the house are working so I hope he or she can resolve things with my speed and I will update on Friday evening, and again next Wednesday(after the 5 day period) to see if the IP profile speed has improved.

  • Collission fails when game speed increases.

I've been working on a simple pong game and it works quite nice still some weird bugs in it. For one when i increase the speed of the ball our paddles the game doesn't detect a collision anymore.
I think the reason for this is because the variables are changing to fast to properly preform calculations with them.
Is there a way to make the program calculate everything at once?
Our make the program sleep at a better time, please your help is appreciated.

  • Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty - Computer randomly freezes accompanied by a single be

I just bought my X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatalty Pro Series and my computer randomly freezes for up to 0 seconds and I hear a single beep from my internal computer speaker after which my system goes back to normal for about 5 to 0 minutes and then it repeats the same process. I have upgraded all my drivers for my motherboard, including flashing my bios to an updated version, and I ran the creative software auto update from the website and updated the drivers and software and I'm still having the same issue. I am running a Dell XPS 400 system:?Dell DXP05 MotherboardPentium D830 Dual Core Smithfield @ 3.0Ghz2 gigs ramXFX Nvidia GeForce 7900GS 256mb Video Cardand X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatalty Pro Series Card?Any thoughts? I've read similar posts however none seem to be the same as my issue.

    Hi,
Did this happen right out of the box or do you own the card for some time now?
Just in case, please ensure that the sound card is firmly seated on the pci slot.

  • Prime95 passed, Memtest86 passed, Games... random POWEROFF

    spec:
    Enermax Liberty 400W 12v@20a
    MSI K8N Neo4F-F
AMD64 3800+ (stock timing, stock HSF)
Crucial Lowgrade RAM 512x2 (stock timings)
BFG 7950GT OC (factory overclock, stock HSF)
    Audigy2 ZS
    120GB ATA HD
    (3) 80mm intake
    (1) internal, bracket-mounted 80mm (blowing directly on the graphics chip and northbridge)
    (1) 120mm exhaust
    problem:
everything works brilliantly until I play Oblivion/Wow/Pirates!/HL2 for several hours. After the 2-3 hour mark I get a random POWEROFF. No error in the errorlog, no reboot. Power it back up and the mobo posts just fine, OS loads just fine. Games play just fine for another 2~ hours and then POWEROFF. Prime95 on priorty10 for 48 hours... passed without heat issues. Memtest86 for 48 hours... passed zero errors. 3Dmark06 shader3.0 (wyrm/airship) torture-loop for 48 hours... warm graphics chip (68c), but passes without POWEROFF/crash.
I'm losing my mind. what are modern games doing differently that would expose a flaw in my otherwise PERFECT system.
    Troubleshooting:
motherboard standoffs triple-checked. everything removed and reinstalled. core hardware removed from case and run "nude" from atop cardboard (read that here)... same problem. Starting to think it's not a short. borrowed friends 650W 12v@28a PSU and same problem. borrowed 7900GT (stock timing, stock HSF) and same problem. replaced RAM, same problem. Not having any heat issues... even the Northbridge is chilly. Read about CPU and GPU competing for the same 12v rail, so I tried the twin molex y-adapter and same problem.
should I RMA the motherboard? I'll gladly do it as a last resort, but I'll eat 20 bux on the shipping *and* it might not cure my problem. I want to be sure before I waste 20 bux.
anyone know how to fix this?

yessir, it was the RAM timings *only during* intense memory hogging apps like World of Warcraft and Oblivion. Played both thoroughly without POWEROFF.
Thanks for the advice, Bas. both PSUs ran incredibly cool (infrared thermometer). I agree, the RAM causing full power-bomb is odd. I'm not even overclocking, and everythings at suggested voltages. Even the memory, at time of bomb, isn't hot. Something about WOW, HL2, and Oblivion really didn't mesh well with my RAM timings.

    Maybe try 2.5,3,3,7 1T?
    interesting, everything I've read on this board and others is that 2.5, 3, 3, 7 (2T*) is more aggressive/faster than 3, 3, 3, 8 (1T)
    * the (2T) posted faster memory benchmarks than (1T). Forget the name of this timing but it's a bit further down in the BIOS. irregardless, it POWEROFFS off 2.5, 3, 3, 7 (1T) as well. So it appears to be the (1T/2T) that's at odds with my mobo/memory.
So happy I don't have to RMA. Thanks again for keeping me level-headed guys, your patience and expertise helped me find the solution. For fun, I slapped these same sticks in a third mobo (friend's AMD A-BIT) at (2T) and it didn't bomb. So get some of these other people with similar problems to post their RAM timings after PSU/shorting issues have been ruled out. Seems the MSI mobo may be picky about certain "approved"--yet incredibly lowgrade--RAM sticks.

  • How to/What is the best way to do a game speed rate...

I've been trying to do a game for J2ME, but i realized that some actions like moving the sprite around would need to do things like "thread.sleep(etc)" if i want to actually see it moving, i've tried to do directily and nothing happened on screen, or happened so fast that i didn't see. But as far as i went trying to do something to work i couldn't come with a good solution for my problem. I did one that "worked" but i could only get the ship to fire one shot at time that would move on screen, as soon as i shoot again the other sprite would stop moving and became stuck on screen.
So please, anyone know a good sample that can give me a path to follow? I'm sorry i don't have the codes anymore i modified and right now i have a non working code and totally diferent from before.
    Thank you.

I don't do J2ME, but the best way I've run across is offscreen rendering and javax.swing.Timer
If there is an equivalent in J2ME I highly recommend it.

  • Speed of random key access

    hi,
we have a bdb with around 1 million entries in it. keys are small (~20 bytes), values are large (~2k). i was just wondering if there are any strategies for optimizing random key access. basically, we run operations where we end up with a collection of keys (say 20), which we then iterate through, retrieving each entry. is there any strategy for optimizing this? (e.g. sorting keys in the same order as the database.)
    thanks,
    -james

    Hi James,
Sorting keys certainly won't hurt, but unless there's a good chance of locality of some of the keys you'll still hit random spots on the disk. If keys are sorted in insertion order, then it's likely that there will be locality. Alternatively, if you can sort to insertion order (if insertion order != key order), that might work too. Again, it depends on the proximity of the keys in your 20-key set.
But a more fundamental question is whether you can just allocate a large enough cache to fit the entire database in memory. You can load the entire database using Database.preload(); If you can't increase the cache size, then you could try cleaning the log to a smaller size. This increases the likelihood of hits in the file system cache. But cleaning to a higher minUtilization is also expensive.

    Charles Lamb

  • Slow speeds at random times

    Hello all,
I have had BT Infinity for about 1 year now and for the first 6 month it worked perfectly.
Around january i noticed i was being slowed down at peak times so i contacted BT and they said i was on the wrong package (i was suppose to have unlimited uploads and downloads) and they assured me the issue would be fixed and for about 2 month it was fine.
At the end of March / Start of April the internet start to drop at random times for 20 - 40 minute periods (normally twice a day) my phone would disconnect from the wireless and i would be unable to open any webpages on my PC (wired) and found myself with a 8 second delay on skype.
I've phoned BT twice and have been given the run around, the most recent time i was told that my lights were probably stopping my internet working properly (This is almost exact the reason i was given).
    Help Please ?

I have posted this as a reply in our thread as you raised the question there. However please keep results on this thread for it to be looked at properly.
    Extract from other reply.
I know it can be very frustrating, but i see you also have opened your own thread. I would suggest checking a few things or at least gathering more information so others will be able to help you later this evening.
I would presume you are on FTTC connection and wired when gaming.
I would perform a quite line test dial 17070 option 2 and listen to how quite the line is.
    Then
    http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome
Carry out further diagnostics and post back results in your thread.
    From Ray's extract Quote
If you have a HH5 you can see your line stats in troubleshooting/helpdesk
    This may work http://bthomehub.home/index.cgi?active_page=9140&active_page_str=page_hdesk&req_mode=1&mimic_button_...
You may need to log on using the password on the card in the back of the homehub.
Can you post lines 1-13 of your line stats please?
    Again post back results.
Another thing to try is direct connection.
Step 1: Remove the homehub from the modem
Step2: Connect your pc/laptop into the modem using LAN1 port
Step3: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network
Step4: Connect to the internet then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE
Step5: Username [email protected] and the password as BT
Step6: connect, If it doesn't,keep pressing try again until it does.
See if results improve with this.
I would suggest is get ping plotter software and plot to the server to see what is actually happening.
    "Pingplotter"
It's free for 30 day trail.
This will check stability of your outgoing traffic latency wise to that server.
Also you could try setting up a Thinkbroadband.com Quality monitor again to see how your connection is preforming.
    http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/monitors.html
This will check stability of your line seen from an external source looking into your connection. Different to above as nothing at your end should affect this result as it is resolving and responding to your IP only from external source.
You will have to enable ICMP requests (accept pings) on your router for this to work I don't thing HH3 supports this not sure if others do I use a different router.
Other option is different DNS on your pc. To see if pages resolve faster OpenDns or Google. Long Shot but it might help eliminate.
Having re-read what you have said above also check nothing else is going on, on your PC such as windows updates spyware etc as you have stated random drop for short periods. Again a long shot but you may have updates or malware activity you are unaware of.

  • Game Speed

    Sorry im a complete noob at this but ive been told loading gif or other types of files to use as graphics can slow down a program considerably; Im migrating to java from ActionScript and this is a scary thought. But is it true;

prefetching images (and other items) is a standrad
practice in gaming regardless of the language
platform.ActionScript doesn't really give a great amount of resource control, especially images. Flash usually loads all images in a scene, but it also loads images on-the-fly that weren't predictable due to the ActionScript. Pre-fetching in Flash virtually doesn't exist to the coder.

  • AS3+PHP Game Development Speed

    Dear All,
I'm an As2 game developer but my new prj need to done with as3.So one thing that I want to make sure is
" Will the game speed slow if I place the contents and imgaes into the stage as in AS2 ?"
As I planned to use OOP class. And confused that all those mcs should be place directly into timeline or should attach from as files?
    Thanks in advance!

    It depends.
If there are moments in your game were 50+ objects are getting animated, faded etc. on stage and your game runs fullscreen and uses bitmaps it certainly will slow down if you put all things on the timeline.
Then you could use something like the copyPixels method (google it) to speed things up or even go further and use a framework like flixel

  • Random black screen pauses in games

    Hi,
So I recently built a brand new machine with all new parts.
    The relevant specs:
1 MSI Twin Frozr III GTX 570
    Asus p8z68-v pro/gren3
    Corsair Vengeance 8GB
The only thing I was able to recycle from my old machine was my Corsair 520HX power supply.
So anyways, the new machine has been great, but I'm noticing in quite a few games I get random flashes to a black screen, I hear the fan on the video card shut off, and then about 1 second later it comes back on as if nothing happened.
I'm noticing this most frequently in both Batman: Arkham City, and Witcher 2.
With Arkham City it also sometimes simply crashes when this happens. Most of the time in both games, it seems to be when its loading new textures on the card, like streaming sections on Arkham City, or cutscenes on Witcher 2.
In both I can see it after the reload stream back in the textures when it recovers.
The video card is running at stock settings, and I've seen this with or without my CPU being overclocked (44x multiplier no voltage increase).
I've looked at the temps and the video card never gets over 45-50, and the CPU 45 so I don't think its pure temperature.
In other games instead of a hard crash, I infrequently seem to just be forcibly alt-tabbed to windows. The game will still be running, but I can't get back into it.
A couple of games where I've seen this: Battlefield 3 and Shattered Horizons.
Any ideas? These parts are brand new, so I'm a little skittish that something is defective but I have no idea what. Also from what I've read the Corsair HX520 power supply SHOULD be enough, but I'm not so sure.
I really don't want to spaz and buy a new power supply, any ideas? Can I diagnose this? I can swap to an old 8800GTS, but I won't be running at NEARLY the same settings in these games so I'm not sure how relevant it will be?
P.S. Am I hurting my system by playing? I'm on vacation at the moment, and would like to continue to enjoy my new system. If I have to replace something I'd like to wait until next week, but I'm a little worried I'm killing a component?

Thats quite difficult for me to do, but I can try. Best guess though, does this seem more like a faulty GPU or a power supply thats not big enough. I mean I read online that a 520HX ought to be enough, but my supply is 4 years old. If it is my power supply, have I already damaged my components?

Don't think so, if its your PSU, the VGA should work just fine with another decent one PSU

  • Error when running a game in Windows

I installed SW Galactic Battlegrounds on my Windows partition (which I created using Boot Camp), which is running XP SP2. It played fine until a few minutes into the game, when it just randomly quit, giving the error message "Windows has encountered an error and must close." It exited the game, but the music is still playing in the background. However, no trace of it remains in Task Manager (go figure). I downloaded and installed the patch for the game, but it hasn't helped. I checked the system requirements, and it only requires 32MB of RAM (the game's a classic, what can I say). I'm not running any other programs. Basically, I have no idea why the game keeps quitting randomly, but it seems that no matter what I try, it still creates this error. Any ideas?

Well, I contacted Lucasarts about this problem, and all they could say is that "This product is not currently supported using the Apple Boot Camp Application." That doesn't make sense to me. If it's installed on a Windows partition, shouldn't it be able to run? Is there something technical going on, because Windows is running on a Mac machine, that would prevent the game from being able to run properly?
