Garageband interface hangs when selecting 'project' in lcd

Hi,
I've got a problem with Garageband. When I open up a GB project, everything is fine.
When I go to the little popup button on the lcd screen and select "project", the Garageband interface freezes. I can't interact with the app anymore, untill i press Command-F to go back to the time view.
It seems to me that it is a problem with graphics or something. When I double click the window to minimize it, then get it out of the dock, all that shows up is a white outline of where the window would be.
Already tried deleting prefs, reinstalling, other account but nothing worked. Got the newest version.
Anyone here knows how to solve this?
Thanks in advance,
Rengers

Yeah, those machines were "fresh"...so I installed on my older PowerBook G4 (1.67 GHZ w/2 GB RAM) and get this...it works perfectly. Now, the caveat is that I had prepped the G4 for sale so I had done clean (aka "fresh" install) of OS X 10.5.6 and done absolutely no customization (added/removed any fonts).
So we're back to determining if it's really a font issue and what font is causing the problem.
I really don't want to have to use GB on my PowerBook (because I want to get it sold ASAP to put $$$ towards a new one), so I wish Apple would do the right thing here and post a fix or something. What gives? I guess I could get lucky if I take it in to a genius tomorrow and I just happen to get the right person that knows the how to solve the problem.

  • JDeveloper 11.1.2.3 hangs when opening project from JDeveloper 11.1.1.6

Hello! I have a problem here which I can't solve. I also asked this question here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14365031/jdeveloper-11-1-2-3-hangs-when-opening-project-from-jdeveloper-11-1-1-6/14369211#14369211 . The whole story in short. I have a JavaEE client-server project in JDeveloper 11.1.1.6, where it works like a charm. Recently I had to upgrade JDeveloper version to the latest 11.1.2.3. The first problem was that the standard procedure of migrating project from the older version of JDeveloper to the newer one did not help: IDE was hanging forever all the time with no apparent (for me) reason, log file was silent about that. Then I tried another way: I just created the same project from the beginning and put there all necessary source files, libraries, set project properties etc. Still nothing, but now found the way to obtain a kind of error at least. I ran C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdeveloper\jdev\bin\jdev.exe from the command line and got the following (e.g. when I started running debug):
    Jan 16, 2013 8:52:09 PM oracle.ideimpl.runner.StarterFactoryDescriptionImpl logError
SEVERE: Incorrect hash-structure value in starter-factory definition
    Jan 16, 2013 8:52:10 PM oracle.ideimpl.runner.StarterFactoryDescriptionImpl logError
SEVERE: Incorrect hash-structure value in starter-factory definition
But I don't know what could be the next step... Could anyone help me? Thanks in advance for your attention!

    Hi,
not sure if you have a support contract or work for Oracle. In both cases the best option is to file a bug (service request)

  • Premiere Elements 11 hangs when opening projects

I have a 64 bit HP ProBook 4740s with Premiere Elements 11 installed. I use my laptop 2 days a week and work from a desktop machine 3 days a week.
The laptop installation of PE11 hangs when I try to open projects but when plugging external hard drive into desktop the project opens fine.
All files are on the hard drive so it's not from missing files.
If I create a new project PE11 runs fine I then create another new project and it hangs
Really frustrated, even reinstalled - still same issues.

We were pleased to learn that your problem was resolved by a just the Premiere Elements uninstall/reinstall
as you wrote in your post 2 and repeated your result in post 4.
As SG pointed out, the details of these issues are important to get at the core of the issues (whys) and expedite
matters to get you moving forward with your projects.
If the problem reoccurs, please get back to SG in this thread with details necessary to help you. In this instance we will not know if the problem was really with the install or rather with corruption of Premiere Elements settings file which could have been handled by deleting the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file or the whole folder in which it exists on the hard drive.
    Continued success.
    Thanks.

  • Applications Hang when selecting / attaching a file using Spotlight

    Hi,
Having a problem since upgrading to Snow Leopard with applications 'hanging' when trying to attach a file using Spotlight. I can repeatedly cause the failure in Mail and Safari - and probably others as well - but these two applications I use most often and need to attach files to most often.
When I select "Attach a file", and use Spotlight to find the file to attach, the file dialog box closes and the attachment is apparently made - seconds later the spinning wheel appears and the dock tells me "Application Not Responding."
Any ideas as to how / why this is happening? Help make it stop!
    Thank you,
    Gordon.

    OK Search box
Mine is OK so something is screwy..
In your Finder Prefs > Advanced > When performing a search drop down. Search this Mac seems to be default and the one I have set. Have you got it set to search the current folder or use the previous search instead?
I'd then pull out the com.apple.finder.plist from your user Library > Preferences to the desktop and let finder make a new one. If all is OK trash the old one.
Relaunch Finder by holding down the option key while right clicking Finder icon in the dock. Relaunch will be on the bottom of the context menu.

  • IWeb 08 hangs when selecting Albums

First, all the obigatory items have been performed; trashed preferences, run disk utility and restarted, even safeboot procedure.
When going into edit a web site, the iWeb software hangs whenever selecting in the Albums section, whether it be the home album or subsequent albums.
It is a easily reproducible hang and it is consistent.

The more content you have in an albums page the longer iWeb will take to load it.
Some people put a lot of stuff in an album page and don't consider the fact that this page will take a long time to download from the internet and will probably lock up IE.
The maximum size I would use for an albums page is about 5MB on disk and this would be reduced by optimizing before upload.

  • IPhoto hangs when selecting trash

    Hi there,
iPhoto is hanging when I click the trash button in the menu. Right or left click. Must force-quit to get out. Otherwise works fine.

This did seem to help. I think the actual problem was this: when I upgraded my iPhoto library, it inserted thousands of small thumbnail duplicates into the trash. The trash folder was so big it took a while to read it. Now that I have been able to empty it, iPhoto works fine. Thanks!

  • IMovie '09 hang when opening project

I have a large project in iMovie I was working on. When adding a song from the media browser to a clip I got the "spinning Beach Ball" where iMovie hangs until I had to "Force quit". Reopening iMovie in order to edit the project hangs (spinning beach ball). I have seen multiple posts on the web and even in older post here; but have not found a working solution. Following the advice of older posts I have:
    Rebooted
    Repaired permissions / fixed errors
    Trashed iMovie plist
Removed video clips from iPhoto (to reduce iPhoto video file size)
Used time machine to revert back to previous edit
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
Apple- are you listening? Anyone from Apple Support care to take a crack at it?

Do you know whether it was built in CS5?
The Premiere project it is linked to must be CS5. (I think this is what I found when using CS3, CS4, and CS5 projects with Encore CS5.)
Try opening the PR project in Premiere, then while open, open the Encore project.

  • Message mapping hangs when selecting communication channel

    Hi Experts,
I have a strange problem. In message mapping, there is an RFC Lookup. For this RFC lookup, there is one parameter of type communication channel. I want to test this message mapping. So, I go to the Test tab and browse for all available communication channels. When I select a channel and click on Select, ESR hangs. I am not getting why this is happening. Please help me get rid of this problem.
    Thanks,
    Netrey

  • CS6 hangs when selecting the pencil tool

CS6 hangs for about a minute when I select the pencil tool.  Everything just freezes up and then after about a minute I'm good to go.  I'm running Lion 10.7.3 with 12GB Ram.

You have "standard" set as your curser preference. To change it Edit<Preferences<Display and Cursors.

  • Firefox 5 on Windows XP hangs when selecting Tools - Options

Firefox starts up okay. I can browse web sites okay. However, when I select the menu option "Tools" and then select "Options", Firefox hangs, the Options window does not appear, and I have to do a forced close of Firefox.

    Cor-el
Thanks, but that does not work. In fact I have now tried Firefox v3.8, v4.0, v4.1 and v5.0 and found that selecting Tools / Options causing Firefox to hang completely on every occasion. I have tried starting each of these in in Safe Mode but this does not solve the problem.
What does Firefox do when opening the Tools / Options window that could possibly conflict with something else I have on my PC?! This is completely baffling.

  • Aperture crashing when selecting Project in Library Inspector.

Hi.  Three crashes in a row, one even after rebooting.  Different Projects selected and being selected.  Crashes immediately after I select a Project in the Library Inspector, either by pressing and releasing the down-arrow key or by clicking with the mouse.  Projects are newly imported, but have not shown any problems.  Each Project that was the one being selected when Aperture crashed can be viewed in the Browser (confirmed afterwards).  Aperture normal otherwise.  C. 70K Images in Library.
First set of Projects with new camera (Nikon 1 AW 1 — gets my recommendation if you want a submersible camera with better-than-snapshot quality files) — but have not had any problems importing files or viewing Images or videos.
Did change the time-stamps on c. 1,500 Images a few minutes before crashes started.  (Is there a dongle-doo-hickey-thing-a-jig that will sync the time settings on multiple cameras?)
    Anything to look for?

  • 5.5 hangs when selecting objects

I run a mid-2010 Macbook Pro with Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz and 8gb RAM.
When I click on an object - image, text frame - or page in the Pages panel - there is a big spike in CPU usage (e.g. 3% to 60%) and the whole machine hangs for about 5 seconds before the frame indicates it has been selected. It doesn't do this in CS3 or CS4, and didn't do it in CS5.5 when I first installed it, but it did do it before I upgraded from 4 to 8gb RAM, and before I moved from Snow Leopard to Lion, so it doesn't seem to be an OS/memory problem.
I know there have been similar posts, e.g. http://forums.adobe.com/message/2885091, but none of the suggestions has worked. I have:
    - turned off Preflight and Redraw
    - rebooted
    - re-installed the program
    - reset preferences
    - reformatted the hard disk and installed the new OS
    - quit all other program, closed other ID docs, and ensured RAM and CPU were not overused
    - kept at least 15gb free space on the startup disk
    - tested it on large docs (200 pages, lots of images with complex effects) and on tiny ones (one page, one small text frame)
The behaviour remains about the same whatever I do.
Acrobat X has been even worse, e.g. selecting a page or opening a tab or even opening a drop-down menu takes 5-10 seconds. It has been like that since the first install, and re-installing has made no difference. (One day it worked well, but I couldn't figure out what I was doing different.) Acrobat 9 used to work fine, but now it is behaving like X.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Well I'm pretty sure it did the same under Snow Leopard; Acrobat X was certainly just as bad.
I do happen to have EPSes (and PNGs) in the file I'm working on now as it's an imported Word doc created by someone else. But it does the same in docs with no images at all.
What would be the best way of converting the EPS files to .jpg? Bridge/Camera Raw doesn't seem to be able to convert them at all. Preview and Photoshop won't even open them, saying they can't parse the PostScript. I can do them outside Adobe by batch converting with Adapter or somesuch, but it breaks the links with the files so I'd have to spend ages relinking them.
By font management I assume you mean opening the .indd file from within a package containing a 'Document fonts' folder. I wasn't doing that most of the time but have just tried it now and it makes no difference. The current fonts I am using are:
    adler.ttf
    Bookman Old Style
    Calibri Bold.ttf
    Calibri Italic.ttf
    Calibri.ttf
    Cambria Bold Italic.ttf
    Cambria Bold.ttf
    Cambria Italic.ttf
    Cambria.ttf
    Century Gothic
    fennariolight.ttf
    markingpenheavyregular.ttf
    MinionPro-Regular.otf
    MyriadPro-Regular.otf
    Symbol.ttf
    Tahoma Bold.ttf
    Tahoma.ttf
    TektonPro-Bold.otf
    tektonpro-regular.otf
    Times New Roman Bold Italic.ttf
    Times New Roman Bold.ttf
    Times New Roman Italic.ttf
    Times New Roman.ttf
    Times.dfont
    Verdana Bold.ttf
    Verdana Italic.ttf
    Verdana.ttf
How do I check if they are corrupt?
Anyway, that wouldn't affect all documents would it, just ones using the corrupt fonts?

  • Encore CS5 hangs when opening project

I have read posts about this problem already and the solutions proposed so far seem to do with changing or erasing cache files, fiddling with Premiere Pro, etc.  Frankly, I don't understand any of that!!  Can someone suggest
something more direct?  What happens is that when I try to open old (about 2 months old) Encore projects, they  hang at between 7 and 13 %.  It is happening with 5 different projects that all worked fine in November.   They are on two different hard drives, and in separate folders.  Thanks for the help.

Some of the suggestions are general and may apply to  multple projects, and to causes that could affect multiple projects/drives. For example, the "run as administrator" method.
Can you create a new project? Can you save, exit Encore, and reopen it?

  • Hangs when opening project

    Hi,
I created a project with about 6h footage, all P2 files. Recently, I got a new PC and moved the hard-drive from the onld one (where the project was created) to the new one. When opening the project, the progress bar "jumps" to ~80% and then remains there. I waited over 3 hours, it has no CPU nor I/O Activity at all. The GUI is responsive, I can press canel. I also tried to import the project into a new one with the same result.
The project was created with CS 4.0.1 and on the new PC I have 4.1.
I have another project, which contains AVCHD-Footage with only 10mins lengh. This one works perfectly.

Or do you mean to Adobe?
    Yes
You are only calling attention to your own OE and showing them there is no bug at all.
From my point of view, this is a bug. I'd expect a $1000 software to pop up a message, saying that the paths have changed and the media cannot be found. Just like it does when a file is missing. But it just hangs, doing nothing. The fact that I found a workaround (changing the driveletter) helps in the 1st place, but one should not be forced to keep all projects on the same drive letter they were created.
Whatever is consindered a bug finally, I think it's helpful for adobe to know about this behaviour.

  • Why does Bridge hang when selecting thumbs

I've been working on a script that looks through all the currently visible images in Bridge and selects a subset of them. In my case, I'm selecting only the latest version of an image (e.g. the PSD, not the NEF). My code logic is working to identify the thumbs that I want to select, but when I try to actually select them in Bridge, I find that Bridge hangs.
The whole script is a bit complicated, but the relevant part to my problem is:
    for (i = 0; i < fileNames.length; i++)
    if (!fileNames[i].hasDerivative)
    var thumbObj = currentThumbs[fileNames[i].thumbIndex];
    app.document.select(thumbObj);
If I comment out the app.document.select line, the script works perfectly. I've even written debugging code that verifies that my script finds all the right thumbs. But, when I try to actually select them in Bridge, Bridge hangs and I have to kill it from task manager.
Is there something I'm either doing wrong or need to know about app.document.select(thumb) in Bridge? Why would that call hang? Could I somehow be passing an invalid thumb to this function? Is there a way I can write debugging code to test if it's a valid thumb I'm passing in all cases?
    --John

Hmmm. That's not very convenient and it doesn't prevent my mistake. At the cost of a lot more typing, it can prevent other scripts from accidentally referencing or colliding with your variable names, but it doesn't prevent you from accidentally colliding with other people's variables if you leave off the object qualifier when you are typing.
When I saw a reference to namespaces in something I was reading, It thought it was more like real namespaces (e.g. C++ namespaces) where you define a scope where all declared or referenced variables are automatically in that namespace unless they are explicitly referenced/declared otherwise. Does JavaScript not have that capability?
It would be more like this:
    namespace MyProgram {
    var i = 3;
// lots of other code here
With a real namespace, "i" wouldn't be a global variable. It's real name/declaration would be MyProgram.i or MyProgram::i depending upon the syntax.
Does JavaScript not have real namespaces?
I get that I can explicitly declare everything to a scope of MyProgram to simulate some benefits of namespaces, but that's a lot of extra typing and, presumably a bunch of extra work for the interpreter since there's at least one extra dictionary lookup for every variable or function reference.
