Generate large pdf problem

HI,
I have a report that will generate more than 40000 pages.......I know it is crazy ><
Everytime, the report runs, it will stop in the middle and the forms (which called the report) will be closed and no file was generated.
I just wonder it is because the report too big or not? Are there any ways to fix the problem ?
Thanks!

Yes, I have already pass in parameters...however, based on the users requirenment, there are still many pages generated, and they want to have it in one pdf file.
And the pdf was not generated when run in report builder, and report builder was closed automatically.

  • Issue with generating large pdf file using cfdocument tags in CF9

We are in the process of upgrading our code to use cf9 and the cfdocument tag (from the old cfx_pdf tags).  We have successfully gotten one piece of our code to work but the file size of the pdf that we are generating now is huge in comparison to what it was using the CFX_PDF tags. (I.E.  with the new code the file is 885 KB in comparison to the old code generating only a 11KB file). We are not embedding fonts so the Fontembed = "no" didn't work for us.  We do have all of our images as .jpgs but unfortunately due to the volume of images that we have we can not switch all these files into another format.  Is there is way to shrink or optimize the pdf file size that we are generating?
Thanks so much for your help.

  • Takes a long time to Generate a PDF from Frame 9. Why?

It takes approximately 1 hour to generate a PDF from a 200 page Frame 9 doc (PDF file size Standard). There are lots of xrefs in the doc (more than 1500) but taking one hour to generate a PDF seems unusual. I remember the Frame 5 days when it took only minutes to generate large PDFs.

It might help to know your system configuration. I have experienced such long times for PDF creation, when using FM9 in Parallels/Win XP Pro and saving to a shared volume on the same Mac. Now we are saving all documents (including PDFs) to a server, and we're back to PDFs in minutes

  • Problem downloading large pdf with Safari

Has anyone else had this problem when clicking on a link to a large pdf file (1MB) I get a blank screen in Safari. When I try with firefox its fine only with safari is there anything I need to change to allow downloads of larger pdf files in safari?

1MB isn't a particularly large file at all. Can we assume that you've verified that Safari will open smaller PDF's?
Also, you haven't mentioned what Adobe product and version you are using (may help to give the version of Safari as well).

  • Generate report to PDF problem; font or layout problem

    Hi all,
I have this report that look fine.
But when I generate this report to PDF one of the column which supposed to show date information become "******" in the PDF version.
Normally I would try to modify the report by changing its font to smaller one or expanding the field to accomodate longer string.
The problem is i don't have the RDF file.
So i need to know how to make the PDF i'm generating looks the same as the the original one i'm generating the PDF from.
btw The report is made with Report Builder 6.0.8.11.3, and running on oracle database 10g.
    Thank you.

    hello Gouri,
basically I just wish the PDF version of the report looks exactly like the one generated by reports runtime.
When I run the report all data is shown properly.. But the PDF version i generated from that failed to show one the column properly. Instead of showing the data the PDF version replace it with ******.
    How come?
Is this the same kind of problem where the printed result differ from what it look on the sreen?
    Is it adobe reader problem?

  • Problem while generating Encrypted PDF in batch

    Hi PPl
I am generating encrypted PDF in batch. I have one requirement to generate about 1 lakh PDFs.
But when i start my batch initially it works fine but after generating round about 25 PDF my program get
stuck at Document.copyToFile method and after that it again generates around 5-6 PDF and stops for a while
    at the same place.
I have tried the same program to generate PDF without Encryption and it works very fine.
Guys i need your help to solve this issue.
    Waiting for your valuable inputs.

  • Problems when Exporting large PDF files.

    Hi there,
We're trying to run a scheduled report that's huge and the PDF would usually be about 2,000 pages. The smaller resultset of about 1000 pages would work eventually, but 2000 seems to be not working.
We're using BOXI R2 in our servers right now.
I've thought of a work around this but don't know if it's possible with the BOBJ way. That would be for BOBJ to set the start and end limit of the report result-set and instead of generating one PDF of 2,000 pages, we can use two 1000 page reports. This could be done by defining the starting offset for the resultset and saving into a variable that the next resultset would take from. I.e. end-offset = start-offset+1000 ( considering start offset is 0 ) . And once the cycle is complete ( the instances executed) . The offset ( count ) resets.
    Any ideas are welcome.

So just a follow-up to the original question. To refine it :
    1) Is there a way to save a variable ( in this case, offset ) either from SQL or a report , in a temporary place (not the infocube though ) .
    2) Is there a way to FETCH that variable/value the next time the report is run and reset it once it's finish?

  • Unable to generate a PDF file for 1 of 3 books

I'm making three documents (books) in FrameMaker and then converting to PDF. The first two books generated to PDF with no "major" problems. There were a couple of glitches here and there but most were simply operator error. This forum solved two of my problems.
Now, with the third book, I can't generate the PDF and get error messages in the log file. I've gone back and triple checked everything and can't find a thing that's different between this last book and the first two. I've used the same templates and all of the paragraph formats and character formats are identical in all three documents.
I'm setting all of the PDF setup parameters the same. In the Adobe PDF setup, I've made certain that the "Rely on system fonts only..." check box is unchecked.
One of the error messages in the log file says,
%%[ Warning: LucidaSans cannot be embedded because of licensing restrictions. ]%%
%%[ Font vendor (B&H) does not permit this font to be embedded in PDF. ]%%
This would make sense if Lucida Sans font were only used in this one book. But it's used in the first two books as well and they generate as PDF with no problems. In fact, just to make sure, I went back and generated one of the first books over again and it worked perfectly.
The only significant (?) difference in the third book is that it is much larger than the first two. It runs to 150 pages while the first two are 45 pages and 70 pages. But I've worked with books as large as 450 pages in the past.
I've been creating the PDF documents by the FM Save as PDF feature. But because of this problem, I downloaded and installed a trial version of Acrobat X. Then printed to PS file, opened with Acrobat and tried to distill. Got the same results and the same error messages.
My experience with FrameMaker and Adobe in general is that error messages and indicated results may be cryptic and sometimes have absolutely nothing to do with the actual problem. In any event, I'm totally snowed by this one. (I really shouldn't pick on Adobe for that. Microsoft is much worse when it comes to vague and cryptic error messages!)
Sure wish I had a Mac right now. Or Linux. Or...

Thank you very much for the input. That makes perfect sense to me. The Lucida fonts are, indeed, all from Bigelow & Holmes (B&H). So that explains the difficulties I was encountering. Now, here’s where it gets a little weird.
I created the first two pdf files at work. I work about half of the time from home and was trying to create the pdf file yesterday at home. And that didn’t work. This morning, I loaded all of the files back into the computer in the office and tried again. No problem! Created a nice looking 162-page pdf file. Oh, I did say it got weird, didn’t I? Well, the computer at home and the one at work are both running the same version of Win 7 Pro, the same versions of FM10 and Acrobat X. And the Lucida fonts installed (probably the default set with Windows) are all B&H fonts. That’s right; the same on both computers.
Your input was very helpful because I might have continued spinning my wheels for another day or so on this thing. As it is, I’m considering the matter solved because I just won’t try to make pdf files from these three documents at home. The other alternative would be to use a different font. Umm, no, not at this time. All of the body paragraphs are Lucida Sans. What a task that would be! The other alternative, of course, is to spend a few bucks and by fonts for my home computer that have the proper licensing.
    Again, thanks!

  • Generating a pdf using InDesign CS4

    Hi there
I am having problems generating a pdf using version CS4 - I have done this hundreds of times but on this occasion after selecting the preset I want, the file begins to generate / export and once the last page is reached - I get the message Adobe InDesign CS4 has stopped working - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly  and so no saved pdf !
I tried doing the same thing using InDesign CS3 version at home and alas this works!
I have tried exporting the file to a Interchange file and then attempted to export the file this way but again the same message appears. V frustrating!
I have used the same exporting / preset for months and never had a problem before.
Any ideas? The file is quite large in size - around 80mb but not sure this would cause a problem when trying to generate a high res pdf.
    All thoughts / suggestions welcome!
    Thanks

Sometimes this is caused by insufficient system resources. In such cases exporting in chunks and combining in Acrobat generally will work.
If that 's not it, it's most ikley an object on a page that is damaged or otherwise non-cooperative. You can isloate the page by trying  to export half at a time, then half of each section that fails. Once you've isolated the page you can do the same withthe objects on the page.

  • Unacceptably large pdf file

My first project with Pages is a rather modest 7 page document containing around 15 photos from iPhoto. The Pages source document is less than 2 Mb. My intention is to generate a pdf which I could email but the resulting pdf is over 26 Mb! (I have used the Export function and the print to pdf function with the same results.)
I presume the difference in size is because the source document references graphics from iPhoto while the pdf has graphics imbedded into the file. This pdf file is too large to be of any practical value to me.
My question: Is there any way to reduce the size of the pdf and still retain good quality?

The Color Sync/Reduce File Size gave me the best results. Here's what I got:
    Unmodified: 26.4 MB
    Compress PDF: 25.9 MB
Color Sync/Reduce File Size: 644 KB
It looks like you had much better results with Comp PDF and not as compressed with Color Sync/Reduce though that produced your smallest file. I dunno what thats all about unless it's related to our specific data.
Thanks for your help. My problem is solved.
JFisher, which suggestion did you try?
My test with a Pages document with a lot of images
    gave these results:
    Unmodified: 79.7 MB
    Compress PDF: 14.7 MB
Color Sync/Reduce File Size: 7.1 MB
Edit: I just saw that this reply refers to the
    Compress PDF suggestion.

  • Firefox is generating large sized printing files and prints slowly

Printing with FF 4.0 is slow and generated print files are huge
I tried the RC and released versions of Firefox 4.0 and found the printer module(?) doesn't work as it did in version 3.x
If I print to my laser printer it generates each page slowly (I'm guessing it turns it into graphics) or if I print to a PDF file instead of being a few hundred kilobytes in size, the files are megabytes long.
Is there a way to make Firefox 4 print the way 3.x pronted? I downgraded to 3.6.16 and the problem went away. Other browsers also print normally.
    I'm on Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.

I am having the same problem with FF 4.01. I have two computers, both newer Dell laptops with Win 7 pro. Both have the same printer drivers installed, including Cute PDF which in particular is what I'm having the problem with. One computer prints to Cute PDF perfectly fine, giving a reasonably small file as a result (e.g. this page here is 187kb as a PDF). The other computer produces enormous files (this same page is 1.1mb!!!). Both computers have all the latest Windows updates. On the computer which is producing the large PDFs, I tried numerous other PDF printing programs including Adobe Acrobat 9. All of them produce large files. This only happens in FF - IE and Chrome produce reasonably-sized files. (Chrome, incidentally, has the smallest file size!)
I love FF but I produce a lot of PDFs of a custom web application, and I can't do them in FF any more. *cough*Chromeworksbetterforthis*cough*
If I find a solution, I'll post it here.

  • Email id geterates in PDF Problem

    Hi,
I have a problem when generating a PDF in dat if i get email id. then in the log its generating
Possible variable substitution ignored. Variable 'gmail' not found.  for any email id.
some times the dat is going in to loop that crashing the adobe server. Because the of its generating temp file.
Please help me to solve this solution.
    Thanks
    Naveen

    Print Agent will
recognize @gmail as a variable definition and since it cannot find the variable gmail
    it throws an error message.
To use reserved characters as plain text you need to use special variables (page 291 in documentation) and for email addresses that would ean that you replace your @ with @at. like this:
    [email protected]

  • How to generate a PDF 417 Barcode by assigning a dynamic value at runtime?

PDF 417 Barcode Description given in the Livecycle Designer 8.2
: PDF 417 Non-Scriptable Barcode. Value must be assigned to this barcode at design time, and this barcode will not update after form object value changes.
And my question is how to generate a PDF 417 Barcode by assigning a dynamic value at runtime?

All the information you described points to the problem that reports seems can't generate to a file which already exist. You can verify that by simply doing
    r30run32 C:\AC_REPORT.REP DESTYPE = FILE DESFORMAT = PDF BATCH = YES' desname=c:\temp\ac_report.pdf
several times. If first time the report is successfully generated in c:\temp\ac_report.pdf, but not the second, third time, then it looks like there is a bug on reports r30run32 executable.
You may try to find any latest patch for Reports 3.0 to see if patch can solve you problem. But keep in mind Reports 3.0 is de-supported, you are better to move to 6i or 9i reports.
    Thanks,
