Generate script from SQL for database creation

Hi,
as we have DBMS_METADATA to get scripts for constraints , is there any way by which we can get scripts used for database creation from existing databases
Thanks
kedar

Thanks for the ODB tool. I'm trying to connect with SYS but ODB tool replied :
Unable to make connection : connection to sys should be sysdba or sysoper
How do I tell it to connect "as sysdba" ? I tried putting that in "User Name" field but it didn't work.
Also, when I create a new connection and try to save it, it will prompt me to :
Setup user preferences for this instance
and then popped up the window for "Set Options and Preferences"
My question is, after I saved this connection, how do I go back into this window to edit it ? I don't see any button for it.
Thanks again

  • Script level upgrade for database 'master' failed because upgrade step 'msdb110_upgrade.sql' encountered error 537, state 3, severity 16

    Hello,
I've encountered issue during installation of SP1 to SQL Server 2012. After upgrade I'm getting this error in Event Log:
Script level upgrade for database 'master' failed because upgrade step 'msdb110_upgrade.sql' encountered error 537, state 3, severity 16. This is a serious error condition which might interfere with regular operation and the database will be taken offline.
If the error happened during upgrade of the 'master' database, it will prevent the entire SQL Server instance from starting. Examine the previous errorlog entries for errors, take the appropriate corrective actions and re-start the database so that the script
    upgrade steps run to completion.
Can someone point me direction how I can fix it? This is a production server and currently only way to make it working is to use T902 flag in SQL Server startup params. I've found some suggestions to check Data path if it exists but it does so this is not
    the issue here. Any ideas?
    I've found also here

but for not I didn't tried it yet. This is standalone SQL Server instance.
    Any help really appreciated.

Before sending my message I've searched update script for "FROM master.sys.master_files" and I found script which you are showing me. I've made some digging and when I runned:
           SELECT physical_name
           FROM master.sys.master_files
           WHERE (name = N'master')
it returned also path to one my customers database name which has filename set correctly but it's Logical DB name is master and mastlog. I'm running shared hosting company and I allow my customers to restore their DBs from .bak files but I have no idea why
this customers logical name is set to master and mastlog. Probably when I change this names update script will work as it should. On the other hand in my opinion there should be some kind of fail safe mechanism for situations like this one.
EDIT: After changing logical name for DB and log for mentioned DB your script runned fine so probably now when I remove T902 flag and restart my SQL Server update will run correctly. Big thanks for resolving this issue.

  • Generate Scripts in SQL Server 2008 R2 producing Error "Item has already been added.:

I have used generate scripts before to generate this database about 5 months ago and every thing worked fine.
Today I first tried to generate it out on a server where I only have "db_Owner" for several databases.  This failed with the error.

  • Why it's so inefficient to generate XML from SQL queries?

I am learning to use Oracle9i XML DB to generate XML document using SQL queries. According to the document, there are multiple ways to do it (SQLX, DBMS_XMLGEN, SYS_XMLGEN, XSU). I am using SQLX to do it, but find it's so inefficient. Could someone point out what could be the problem?
I generate XML from TPC-H database, using the query as shown below. The indexes and primary key/foreign keys are created and specified. The system is Pentium IV 2GHz, Linux 2.4.18 with 512MB memory and 1GB swap. With database size 5MB, it spends about 300 seconds (TKPROF result) to generate the XML document. But for 10MB TPCH database, I cannot get the xml document after a long time. I find that all almost physical memory are used up by it. Therefore I stop it.
It seems that nested-loop join is used to evaluate the query, therefore it's very inefficient. I don't know whether there is a efficient way to do it.
Wish to get your help. Thank you very much!

    Tim,
Oracle Reports was the orginal way to do this in an Oracle Apps environment. However, the XML Publisher team built a tool called data templates to do this as well. You can read several articles on how to use data templates on the XMLP blog. Here's the first arcticle in a series: http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/2006/11/08#a127.

  • How-to Generate Script from the export dump file

    Hi all,
    Software : Oracle 10gR2/Windows 2003
    =============================
Has anyone generated a Script from a export dump file ( exported via data pump export). I know it is possible to generate script from the regular export.
I want to know how to generate the script for various objects or is it possible to get the counts of types of objects in the dump file and / or generate the script from the export dump file exported via data pump utility on Oracle 10g.
    Thanks,
    SS

I want to know how to generate the script for various objects.what do you mean by scripts? Assuming the metadata definitions of various objects.
First of all, you can generate the metadata definitions using import.
Use, Impdp with SQLFILE parameter to generate the SQL file for the metadata definitions.
    Refer to
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14215/dp_overview.htm

  • Calling shell script from sql procedure

    Hi gurus
    Is it possible
1)to call a shell script from sql procedure
2)that shell script has to return one value
3)and again sql procedure(calling shell script) has to capture the return value.
please help me to write this script

You may NOT have EXECUTE privilege/ permissions on the DBMS_PIPE package. Check with your DBA.
Using DBMS_PIPE may not be that simple to implement. Just making a call to DBMS_PIPE procedure will not do anything. It will NOT trigger anything on the UNIX side.
. You will also need to :
    1.     Write a job (ie CRON) at UNIX side which will keep read the incoming pipe for new messages, Unpack the message and get the command to be executed at the UNIX side -- There will be a lot of work involved here + DBA presence/activity is also required.
As Justin has pointed out, try and use HOST command which is very simple or try and use Java.

  • Generating XML from SQL queries and saving to an xml file?

    Hi there,
I was wondering if somebody could help with regards to the following:
Generating XML from SQL queries and saving to a xml file?
We want to have a procedure(PL/SQL) that accepts an order number as an input parameter(the procedure
is accessed by our software on the client machine).
Using this order number we do a couple of SQL queries.
My first question: What would be our best option to convert the result of the
    queries to xml?
Second Question: Once the XML has been generated, how do we save that XML to a file?
(The XML file is going to be saved on the file system of the server that
    the database is running on.)
Now our procedure will also have a output parameter which returns the filename to us. eg. Order1001.xml
Our software on the client machine will then ftp this XML file(based on the output parameter[filename]) to
    the client hard drive.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanking you,
    Francois

If you are using 9iR2 you do not need to do any of this..
You can create an XML as an XMLType using the new SQL/XML operators. You can insert this XML into the XML DB repository using DBMS_XDB.createResource. You can then access the document from the resource. You can also return the XMLType containing the XML directly from the PL/SQL Procedure.

Informative thread indeed. Wish I saw it early enough. Managed to come up with the code below before I saw this thread.
    declare @TTName Table

    [status] int
    default 0);
    with AvailableTables
    (TableSchemaTableName)

    (select

    insert into @TTName

  • How can i generate a large SCN for database

    Hi,
On databases where SCN number is larger that 2^32 , my application seems to work in a weird way. Am trying to get this re produced in my test setup , but am unable to pump up the SCN number to such a large value.
I am trying this on RHEL5-64 bit and WIN2003-64 bit with Oracle 11gR2 using a script which does some table creation , deletion etc.
Does any one know any method to increase the SCN value ? This would be of great help.

Simply selecting a row from v$database, in a loop, will increase the current SCN. Don't ask me why this happens as I do not have an answer for the same.
    SQL> select current_scn from v$database;
    CURRENT_SCN
    2944216219
    1 row selected.
    SQL> select current_scn from v$database;
    CURRENT_SCN
    2944216221
    1 row selected.
    SQL> select current_scn from v$database;
    CURRENT_SCN
    2944216222
    1 row selected.

  • Any easy way to generate unique primary key for database table?

I'm currently playing with the J2EE reference implementation from Sun which comes with the IBM Cloudscape database. This Cloudscape database supports the use of an AutoIncrement field.
First question: Can I use CMP and assume that the database will generate a proper key for me? Anyone tried it out successfully before?
Also, based on what I've heard so far, it seems that generating database primary key is not really well-supported by J2EE using CMP in that a lot of J2EE developers have to resort to workarounds like using a session bean, JDBC and (1) some seed numbers for ID implanted in the database itself (as in the J2EE tutorial DukesBankApp example) or (2) using the SQL MAX aggregation command + 1. Usign seed number is contradictory to good database design and using MAX is dangerous for heavy traffic application if 2 beans try to insert themselves into the database at the same time (synchronizarion problem).
Anyway I find it dumb that we still have to go back to JDBC and SQL which was the reason why the concept Entity Bean was introduced; to make database persistence transparent! Now it seems that J2EE makes it worse and more troublesome than before.
Second Question: Is there any easy (hopefully transparent/automatic) way of generating primary key ID?

if you want to rely on your container or database then go hard, will probably be faster.
to make a cross container/db soln I used a CMP Entity bean called Sequence with one field for uid
I use one instance and increment the field each time.
To do the logic, I have a utils class with static method, no need for session bean overhead
I reckon this approach is OK considering all things

  • Retrieving Data from SQL Server Database

    Hi All,
I am working with a program in which i have a requirement to connect to SQL Server Database
and extract the data from the SQL Server Database. I am able to connect to the SQL Database but i am facing problem with the Select Statement. I have the Select Statement
Select PARTNRID from GBA_SI.TRACKING and REFERENCEID3 from HEADER where TRANSTYPE = "INVOIC" and WICOMPLETEDDATETIME is within the date range specified in selection screen (Join on TRANSID).
Can any one tell me how to write the Select Statement in ABAP for retrieving the data from the SQL Server Database.
    Regards,
    Sudhir

    hi check this..
data: begin of itab occurs 0,
           PARTNRID  like GBA_SI-PARTNRID,
          end of itab .
data: begin of itab1 occurs 0,
            TRANSID like header-TRANSID,
            TRANSTYPE like header-TRANSTYPE ,
            REFERENCEID3 like header-REFERENCEID3,
            end of itab1 .
    select-options:s_PARTNRID for GBA_SI-PARTNRID ,
                         s_date for sy-datum.
    Select PARTNRID
        from GBA_SI
             into table itab
    where PARTNRID in s_PARTNRID.
    select TRANSID
             TRANSTYPE
      REFERENCEID3 from HEADER
    into table itab1
    for all entries in itab
    where TRANSID = itab-PARTNRID
         and TRANSTYPE = "INVOIC"
    and WICOMPLETEDDATETIME  in s_date .
