Genius Bar: Apple Vegas: My Heroes!!

I was in Vegas for CES. Went to take my iPhone out to take some photos when I see it is DEAD. Charged it up. Nothing but the apple showing perpetual reboot. Tried Rogers support line long distance. No help. Took it to the Apple store in Caesars Forum at 10:15 at night -- the Hero bar took one look. Tried to recover. Got the dreaded 1015 error. Smiled, and gave me a new phone ... 15 minutes later - re-synced and back to work (well, back to the tables and THEN back to work :))
Thanks for reminding me what great service lloks like.

Welcome to Apple discussions!
The story that you tell is similar to experiences that I have had at the Apple Store. (My secret is, I never go to an Apple Store when school is out.)
Obviously no company can make everyone happy all the time, but I have found Apple to do much better than most. Thank you for relating your story.
I had a Mac Pro that had a motherboard problem, after two unsuccessful repairs they gave me a brand-new Mac Pro. I know service like that cost Apple money, but that type of service creates life customers.

  • My experience with the white 3g and genius bar(apple support).

I bought my white iphone 3g 2 weeks after the release. 2 weeks later i notices a couple of hairline fractures on the case. One between the screen and headphone jacks and another between the charge/pc plug in and screen.
I did some searching and found it was a common problem and people were upset about it. I didn't mind so much since it was barely noticeable and did not affect the phone. I used my phone everyday for work, school, and personnel. I had the same experience everyone else had with it slowing down on the contacts and the typing coming to a near halt.
I was grateful when apple released a firmware update to address these issues. I'm an understanding person who understands that early adopting can have its drawbacks.
So back to the problems I had.
About 3 weeks ago my phone started doing something really weird. I was walking to class and the thing would vibrate every couple of second. I took it out of my pocket and it stopped. I thought there is no way i was hitting the toggle switch to silent. So after handling it for a few seconds, I noticed that it would go into silent and right back out when ever I put small pressure the case in the back. Having to go to class, I just put it in my book bag and ignored it for now. After class I took it out and it continue to do this. I did a hard reset and it still did it. So weird. So I carried on and came home that night. The next morning it had stopped bugging out. So I thought no more about it.
About 4 days after this my phone starting really going crazy. It would go on and off with no touch at all. I would shut off all together and come back on. Volume would go up and down for no reason. After about an hour of doing this I took it the ATT store, even though I knew they couldn't do anything for it. The ATT rep was puzzled to as it continued to do this.
I called and made an appointment at the Apple Store in Knoxville TN with the Genius guys. Since Knoxville is a 2 hour drive and I went to school and worked I made the appointment for Sunday. After leaving the ATT store and going home to bed the problem ceased that night. The next morning was Sunday so I canceled my appointment, as I did not want to drive 2 hours oneway if the phone was working fine.
This weekend I went down to GA to visit family. Today, on the way back I stopped at the Apple Store. Even though I didn't have an appointment I spoke with a rep and he said they would work me in since I don't live close by. After waiting for about 45 mins they had a slot open up.
I explained to the genius tech the problems the phone was having. As he looked over it he saw a hairline fracture on the back just beside the apple symbol about an inch long. I never noticed it. Apparently the case had been putting pressure on a circuit board causing some weird things to happen.
He promptly pulled out a brand new iphone and put my sim card it it. After a couple of minutes updating the new phone and clearing the old one of data, I was on my way.
So I guess what I'm saying is that I'm glad Apple is stepping up and doing the right thing. They continue to work on the os, apple store, and provide great in store support.
Two thumbs up for the Knoxville Apple Store
    -Jeremiah

Serial numbers starting with 5K are white box only. They could be refurbished or new, but are coming from a China plant according to the serial number checker.
I received a 5K white box replacement Friday, and its perfect. So if it was refurbished or new, this factory is doing a good job with them.

  • Genius bar/apple support - trackpad problem

This may sound stupid butttt, my trackpad was wonky on one side of my brand new macbook, so I rang up apple and they sent me to the apple store in Eldon Square. However, I went today and the genius then said that he wouldnt be able to fix it and that I would need to ring up apple and get them to pick it up and fix it that way. The problem is is that apple support isnt open for macs now or tomorrow. Does this mean I have to wait until monday with a faulty trackpad until i can arrange a pick up? Thanks in advance.

  • I just replaced my ipad2 or ipad3 with iPad Air due to calendar shuts down unexpectedly. Problem now exists on new iPad Air. Multiple visits to Genius Bar resulted in no answers. Told value of time not worth moreGenius Bar visits-still crashes-go figure

    Conflicting opinions from Genius Bar:
    -apple calendar software is defective
    -apple operating system problem
-software conflict with something purchased from App Store via iTunes
-some conflict between Exchange Server and apple calendar app (this problem is not occurring on mine or any of mr work colleagues iPhone. This problem is not occurring on any of my colleagues' iPads
Is there any Apple support out there that can help with my several day old new iPad?  Or maybe some smart user has figured this out?

Honestly, I doubt anyone is really going to take the time to read the novel you have written.

  • For the second time (I've been to the Genius Bar once already) my WiFi isn't working on my iPhone 4S. This is really infuriating and costly!!! I see others have the same issues.  Can't Apple do anything about this?  It's obviously a hardware problem!

For the second time (I've been to the Genius Bar already once with this) my Wifi isn't working.  They gave me a new iphone last time, but the new one has the same issue as the old one, I'm guessing.  I've tried resetting the network but that doesn't work.
I see others have this issue too.
If this is a hardware problem why doesn't Apple fix it?  Or do I just have to wait another year for another upgrade?
Currently it's not costing me anything - yet - because I've got the Apple Warranty but this is totally frustating!!! I bought the original phone (which has been replaced in July 2012.  The new phone (without working Wifi) is a month old.
Will try Restore via ITunes before (I will invariably) have to return to the Genius Bar for another Iphone 4S unless someone has an ingenius solution here?..?

For what reason, other than making yourself look foolish, would you ask questions that we users could not possibly answer as we're NOT Apple?
Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as NEW.  Nothing more "ingenius" to suggest than these steps that Apple has outlined in the manual.  If these steps don't work, then go back to the Apple store.

  • Will Apple Genius Bar run Diagnostic tests on my computer or do I need to set up a special appointment?

I got my Mac OSX with Lion about 9 months ago. Two months after I bought it, it crashed. Apple gave no direct explanation and ended up wiping the computer. Two months after that it happended again. That time they gave me a knew hard drive but they still didn't give me an explanation. Then recenty it crashed (kernal panicked) after I downloaded the thunderbolt application. That time apple was able to restore everything.
Unfortunately, my computer is now showing many of the same symptoms (slow loading, safari freezing, applications needing to be forced quit...etc) as it did before it crashed the first two times. I should mention that when I say "crashed" I mean my computer wouldn't turn on again. Now I am afraid to turn my computer off or even let it go to sleep. I know this isn't good for it but I don't know what else to do.
So my question is, will Apple Genius Bar run some diagnostic tests for me or give me a special lesson? Or do I need to pay for a special lesson? I just want a trained person to run some diagnostics and go through the basics of updating, shutting down, and restarting my computer with me. That way if anything goes wrong they see it first hand.
One more thing, could it be something I am doing. I have downloaded Flash Player but only from the Flash website. But I have heard Flash/Mac problems. Or is there anything else I could be doing or downloading?

With Apple you Always Need to Make an Appointment. Otherwise they will turn you away. Even if the place is empty.

  • I have a six months old iPhone 5s, it discharges the battery in 1/2 day without extensive use, 5 trips to the Genius Bar to no avail... Frustrated.. Ready to get rid of the phone, very disappointed in apple support!!

I have a six months old iPhone 5s that I use and have to use for work purposes, I have for a approximate battery life of seven or eight hours.
I went to the Genius Bar on five occasions and did not receive substantial help. I was told that I would have some applications crashing in the background but was unable to be told which ones they were. The phone is still on the warranty, but it's Apple tells me that it is not the hardware but my usage. I compared it to some of my colleagues and none of them has a battery problem like I do. I feel like I am left with a product that is not stand up to its specifications, and as a customer being totally left alone with a smart phone that does not even last through a workday. Any suggestions how to get through to Apple with this?? I was always very impressed with Apple's customer service and care up until now, obviously. Now Im ready to jump ship...

Thought it had worked but soon found out it had not.
after further days of trying finally, solved it for me Yesterday.
turned off notifications when locked, and bingo, wow.
i have not turned off iCloud but location services are also off.
best thing to do I found was keep checking your usage, settings, general, usage, and flip down to bottom, if the standby and usage are similar there is a problem, if there is a big difference then all is ok. Just keep turning things off and on until the difference is very apparent.
something on my phone was keeping the phone alive even when turned off, and I think this was the phone repeatedly trying to update continually.
to me this is definitely down to the iOS, my wife has exactly same phone and iOS but hers doesn't have any problem and the battery lasts for days.
the guy at the Genius Bar told me to restore the phone via iTunes, not iCloud. This is because iCloud remembers the exact info from your phone and simply reinstates it when you restore, and this includes the iOS too.
when I get home from holidays that's what I'll do, or wait for iOS 8 in few weeks. But I'm so pleased I finally made it work, I was beginning to think ditch the phone and buy Samsung.
anyway anyone out there please try my final solution and let me know if it works for you?

  • Creating a genius bar reservation in apple store app?

There's no way to create a new Genius Bar reservation with this app. Each time I tap the "Genius Bar" button on a store's reservation page, I end up on a page with two buttons: "Help" and "Call Apple" and a pop-up message that says "There is nothing scheduled for this store". There is nothing to do on that page.  I can change existing reservations and I can make one on one reservations, but I can't make Genius Bar reservations. I've tried with many different stores and it's the same for all of them.
Any one find a way of doing this?

I came up with the same results.

  • My Macbook is not working properly, I went to a Genius Bar appointment, they were not helpful at all and just told me to go off and reboot my Mac and then restore via TimeMachine. I dont know how to do this. I am extremely displeased with Apple, help me?

My late 2011 Macbook Pro is not working properly it is very slow and extremely painful to use, I went to a Genius Bar appointment, they were not helpful at all and just told me to go off and reboot my Mac and then restore via TimeMachine. I dont know how to do this. I am extremely displeased with Apple at the moment, can someone please help me?

Your problem description is generalized and non-specific. I would make another appointment at the Apple store and insist they help you execute their suggested fixes.
Incidentally, if you search this site, Apple has excellent articles re: restoring a system.

  • I did every step including reinstall intunes to get my IPod touch to sych with intunes and not show up as a camera and nothing works. I even updated the device drivers. Genius bar at apple store told me the ipod was fine, the problem was my intunes. Help

I did every step including reinstall intunes to get my IPod touch to sych with Itunes but it fail to recognize it as anything other than a camera. It still recognize my Ishuffle as a device. The Genius bar as an Apple store told me the Ipod worked on their Apple PC, my pc is not an apple, I attemped every step to rectify the situation including updating the device drivers. I wonder if I need to eliminate every old residue with the word Apple in it on my computer to get it up and going again. Please help !

    If not this:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem.
    Also heating sometimes works. See:
Why can't I select my wifi settings?
A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Then:
Does the iOS device connect to other networks? See other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

iOS 7 devices need iTunes 11.1 or newer to sync.  Depending upon your computer and the OS it is running, you may not be able to upgrade to iTunes 11.1 based on the requirements for iTunes 11.1.  What computer and OS are you running your iTunes on?  From the iTunes download pages I see the requiorements are:
    Macintosh System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core processor
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
    Windows System Requirements
PC with a 1GHz Intel or AMD processor and 512MB of RAM
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
64-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 require the iTunes 64-bit installer
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store

  • My computer has been seen at Genius bar 6 times for freezing up, reloaded all original settings and even went to the apple shop where they replaced the battery and logic board. Still freezes after I try to reload iTunes stuff and app stuff from apple

my computer has been seen at Genius bar 6 times for freezing up, reloaded all original settings, all of their diagnostics, and they even sent it to the apple shop where they replaced the battery and logic board. Still freezes after I try to reload iTunes stuff and app stuff from apple, especially iPhoto which is seems to refuse to load and then begins freezing up all over again. Anyone else have this problem. Other than this, I have had absolutely no problems with this computer. Now, it's a file of junk.

    Hi Ronald ...
Have you checked lately to see how much free space there is on the disk? Especially since iPhoto freezes at launch ...
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
And make sure the OS X software is up to date.
Click the Apple  top left in your screen.
From the drop down menu click:   Software Update
If you have anti virus software installed or are using third party Mac cleaning utiliites, that may be part and parcel of the your problems.

  • TS4108 I have an iphone 5 and an Ipad but DO NOT have an apple computer so if I back-up my iphone to icloud prior to going to a Genius Bar as they tell you to can I then reclaim my data from icloud if necessary.?

I have an iphone and an ipad.  I DO NOT have an Apple Mac (I have a Dell laptop).  I have an appointment with a Genius Bar.  They tell you to back up your data to icloud before you come in.  If my data is lost will I be able to retrieve it without an Apple Mac????    Oh and how do I check what operating system I'm using???? Sorry I'm a novice regarding this.

You can back up your device, either to iCloud or to your computer using iTunes, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766.  If you need to know what version of iOS you are using, go to Settings>General>About and read the number across from Version.

    Ah, but there's this caveat:
Apple will continue to evaluate the repair data and will provide further repair extensions as needed.
And a number of folks have found sympathetic managers and had the 2008 logic boards replaced, even after four years.
