Get relay position (multiple) with NI-Switch

Hello All,
Working with NI-Switch again to configure multiplexer instrument cards, and noticed a difference between NI-Switch and DAQmx-Switches.  Could someone tell me how to configure the NI-Switch function "get relay position" for multiple relays?  The DAQmx Switches equivalent to this functiion can accomplish it, but I don't see how to do it with NI-Switch.  Please advise.  Thanks.
GSinMN

GSinMN,
Unfortunatly, you are unable to call multiple relays using this NI-SWITCH function. Instead try to call this in a for loop. There is a KnowledgeBase Article about this, Get Relay Position, which states "You will have to call this VI repeatedly to get the relay position of multiple relays. To return all relay positions with one call, you can use DAQmx Switch Get Relay Position.vi from the NI-DAQmx API."

  • How do I hard wire multiple airport expresses with a switch

I have two airport expresses and other hardwired devices.  I am trying to get them wired together for a roaming network not to extend the network, but can't seem to get it to work with a switch.
Here is the setup Modem -> Airport Express -> 5 ports switch -> one of the ports is ran to an airport express.  What I'm trying to determine is if the airport device needs to be physically plugged in to the other airport to create a roaming network or can it be ran through a switch. Notice the dotted line vs the solid line.  Now obviously because I found the picture on the internet, I only have two devices not 3.
    Here is mine:
Here is what i'm trying accomplish. (Image from: http://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=345142&d=1340677218)

If you have a simple modem.....then you must connect the modem directly to an AirPort....then connect the switch to the AirPort and then connect other AirPorts and devices to the switch. So, it would look like this:
Internet > Simple Modem > AirPort > Switch > Other Devices
If you have a modem/router or gateway type of device.....then you can connect the switch to the modem/router or gateway.....and then connect the AirPorts to the switch. In this case, things would look like this:
Internet > Modem/Router (Gateway) > Switch > AirPorts and other Devices
So, before we go further with this, it is important to understand what type of modem that you have, as it will dictate what you can and cannot do on the network.
What is the make and model number of the device that you call your "modem"?

Got the "apple firewire ntsc" choice to show up even if grayed out and "missing" under "audio/visual" menus by recreating choices in Easy Setup under "final cut pro" MENU thank GOODNESS because I was reading horror stories on here about this under another thread with someone trashing preferences, reinstalling and the works and still not getting it to show up...on my search now for an analog/digital converter up at b&h...find it odd that the s video connector wouldn't show the crt monitor when I put both displays through the 3870...I switched it back to see if it worked again when only the one dell monitor display was there and there it is again mirroring the screen display on my desktop...just can't be seen as an "external monitor" in fcp...couldn't find anything specific in the shane ross threads to this. I'm sad the program doesn't just see the s video connection though the 3870 though my computer does fine and will query up at b&h in regard to what might be affordable as far as a digital/analog converter. It's also weird in itself that when I put the two dell monitors on the one card my computer no longer could see the s video crt connection...makes no sense. Will report in later as to what I discover up at b&h as I'm sure there's a world of people out there using this sony crt monitor still even into the upgrades with computers and software so I imagine therein lies the solution. Thanks again and I'll report in as to what hardware might be suggested for me.

We need to get you moved. This forum is for mini-tower Macs built between 1998 and 2005 and doesn;t get as much traffic ("eyeballs on the problem") as the forums for newer Macs.
Please do "About this Mac" from you Apple menu and tell us what that says for "processor" and Mac OS version. Looks like this:

With that we can figure out which of the two iMac forums you need and get the Hosts to move your post.

After calling AT&T tech support one more time, and explaining to them that the glitch was on their network, they admitted that the problem was at their tower...
I continued to use the phone on EDGE mode for two more days until the problem was fixed.
I even got a call back from a tech support guy asking me if my phone was working properly....
I wish they would have admitted to the problem before I sat at the apple store for 2 hours.

  • Error while reading Relay position

    Hi,
I am using NI Switch 2569. Its initialized properly. When I try to read the status(open or close) of realy using niSwitch_GetRelayPosition(), an error is returned.
I dont know whats the problem, because I feel I am passing the correct parameters to it..
    I am using it as ;- switchError = niSwitch_GetRelayPosition(vi, "ch0", &relayPosition);
where vi was obtained after niSwitch_InitWithTopology().
    Thanks & Regards!!!
    Vineet Shukla

    Good afternoon Vineet,
Thanks for contacting National Instruments with your issue, we'll try our best to resolve it for you as quickly and efficiently as possible.
It looks like the reason why you're getting an error is you're referring to a terminal (i.e. "ch0") rather than the actual relay.  If you open up your NI Switches Help and in the Contents Tab browse to Devices > NI PXI-2569 and then select the Hardware Diagram, you'll see that for every pair of terminals there is an actual relay name.  So for the Ch0 to Com0 connection, the terminal actually being closed is called K0.
So if you what to determine the relay position for a specific connection, you'll have to pass the corresponding actual relay name to niSwitch_GetRelayPosition.  In this case, K0 should do it.
Best of luck with your project.
    Sincerely,

  • New 150/65 only at 94 Download AND Won't Work with Gigabit Switch

I just had this installed today, converting up from the 35/35, and ran into these two problems:
    1.  The 150 download is only resulting in a 94.87 Mpbs.  The installer originally said it must be my PC NIC card, but I do have a GB card, so there's does not appear to be legitimate reason for the shortfall there.  I tried to change the link speed and duplex from "auto negotation" to "1 Gbps Full Duplex," but then my computer no longer even could connect.
    2.  The second issue is that I have always run my connection through a D-Link DGS-2208 Gigabit Switch because I have multiple wired ethernet computers in my office.  The installer wanted to test the connection speed directly through my computer (see above) and ran into problems, so I never even tried to revert to my original setup with the switch until he left.  However, when I did the Gigabit switch does not even recognize any activity when I plug the source ethernet cord into the switch.  It does recognize the connection to the PC and the port is lit, but no lights from connection to the wall.
Any thoughts on what the problems could be?  I've included the "additional details" from the Fios Speed test at the standard site (can't get any details from the high speed version):

If your computer can't negotiate a 1Gbps connection, then that is what is limiting you to 94Mbps, which is about right for a "100Mbps" port.
There could be several reasons for this.
    A bad NIC
A bad port on the switch
IMO, the most likely cause is a bad cable.  1Gbps requires all 4 pairs in the cable be connected.  If only 2 of the 4 pairs are connected correctly, you will get a 100Mbps connect, but will not be able to connect at 1Gbps.  Try replacing the cable with one known to work at 1Gbps.

  • Multiple scxi 1127 switches scanning, dmm 4070

    Hi,
I am using 2 switches SCXI-1127 in a PXI/SCXI combination chassis. The readings are done through a dmm 4070.
I need to scan 60 thermocouple channels, i.e. 32 on the first one and 28 on the second switch. Now, I found http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3658 stating that a scanning multiple SCXI switches is using legacy DAQ functions in niSwitch for these specific siwtch cards (1127).
What version of niSwitch was it? Is it still true now? Why is that? Or should I use the new way using DAQmx?
    thank you
    alex

    Hi Alex,
This is still the case with NI-Switch 3.3.1.  Due to hardware limitations, scanning multiple SCXI-1127 modules is not a simple task with the NI-Switch driver.  I would recommend using the DAQmx example "DAQmx Multi Switch Synch.vi" if you are performing synchronous scanning.  I have taken a screen shot of the front panel of a working VI to help get you started.
In general, it is more efficient to use DAQmx when scanning multiple switches.  When using NI-Switch to scan multiple switches, it is necessary to maintain a session for each switch module.  When using DAQmx Switch, you need only open one task.  Using DAQmx Switch increases programming efficiency, keeping your code neat and maintainable.
If you need further explanation or if you have further questions, please let me know!

  • Netbooting issue with Netgear switches

    Hi,
We’ve started having issues with Netbooting since we recently replaced our network hardware, going from very old (10 yrs +) 3Com switches running at 100MB to desktop / 1GB backbone to brand new Netgear switches at 1GB desktop / 10GB backbone.
On the old network hardware Netbooting would work fine, showing a list of Netboot images that we are able to boot from with no issue (mainly used for DeployStudio). We have two Mac servers on our network, and now, rather than being able to get a list of Netboot images, it seemingly selects one of the two “Default” images (one for each server) at random. Whichever image is selected works correctly, but we now have no way of choosing at time of bootup.
Other than replacing the switches, nothing else has changed (that I am aware of) that could have caused this to stop working. However, some relevant info:
The new Netgear switches are generally M5300-52G-POE+ with a small number of XSM7224S.
Spanning Tree is enabled on the switches (set to Rapid Spanning Tree – 802.1w). Have also tried with STP turned off totally as I understand this may make a difference – however it did not.
The infrastructure is a mixed network, with both Windows PC’s/Servers sitting on the same network as the Macs. DHCP is supplied by one of the Windows servers.
No VLAN’s are set up – all running on same network.
Both Mac servers are sitting in different physical locations on the network. One is running 10.9.4 and the other on 10.6.8
If I boot holding down Option then I only see the local hard disk.
If I boot holding down either N or Option N then the Mac boots using one of the two Default Netboot images, seemingly at random, from one of the two Mac servers. This is as expected for Option N, but N alone used to bring up a list of images (including those not selected as the default on either server).
All the netboot images show up correctly within the Startup Disk option within System Preferences. I can then boot successfully from any of them in this manner, and am therefore able to get round my problem in the short term, but of course this isn’t ideal.
I have tried setting the netinstall images to be available both over HTTP and NFS, but this has no effect. Also there are no access restrictions in place for any of the images.
I’m not 100% convinced that the issue is related to swapping to Netgear switches. Particularly as no specific configuration was ever done on the old 3Com switches to get netboot working (it just worked from the start). Also, the new switches are so much quicker than the old ones. That said it seems far too coincidental that this started happening when the switches were swapped over, and that as I said before, nothing else has changed.
If there’s anything anyone can suggest that I can check, both with the switch configuration or otherwise, I’d be really grateful.
Finally, just to say I’m more a Windows person than a Mac man, so treat me gently J
    Cheers,
    LSDWho

NetBoot uses DHCP to look for available NetBoot servers so when you hold down just N at boot time it sends a DHCP query asking NetBoot servers to advertise themselves. This might therefore suggest the issue is DHCP related. (Strictly speaking NetBoot uses BSDP - Boot Service Discovery Protocol.)
Note: This use of DHCP by NetBoot does not normally conflict with a real full-blown DHCP server which would ignore this type of query. So it should not cause an issue with your Windows DHCP server.
Since it might be DHCP related I would look at the following -
    http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/21984/~/what-is-a-dhcp-l2-relay-an d-how-does-it-work-with-my-manged-switch%3F
    http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/21990/~/how-do-i-configure-a-dhcp- l3-relay-using-the-web-interface-on-my-managed-switch%3F
I would then see if you can disable DHCP relay functionality and also any other related features like DHCP filtering. If you have not already done so it might be worth checking for any firmware updates and installing those as often 'new' switches out of the box will have shipped with older firmware.

  • Why do I get a class conflict between the Prepare SQL.vi and the Get Column Name.vi with the SQL Toolkit compatibility vis from the Database Connectivity Toolkit?

I have done extensive programming with the SQL Toolkit with LabVIEW versions through 6.1. My customer now wants to upgrade to Windows 7, so I am trying to upgrade to LabVIEW 2009 (my latest purchased version) using the Database Connectivity Toolkit, and the SQL Toolkit Compatibility vis. Everything seemed to be going okay with the higher level SQL operations, but I ran into trouble with the Get Column Name.vi.
The pictures below show the problem. The original SQL Toolkit connected the Prepare SQL.vi with the Get Column Name.vi with a cluster of two references, one for connection, and one for sql. The new compatibility vis have a class conflict in the wire because the Prepare SQL.vi contains a cluster with connection, and command references, but the Get Column Name.vi expects a cluster with connection and recordset references.
How do I resolve this conflict?
    Thank You.
    Dan

I've never worked with the old version of the toolkit, so I don't know how it did things, but looking inside the SQL prep VI, it only generates a command, and the the column name VI wants a recordset. I'm not super familiar with all the internals of ADO, but my understanding is that is standard - you only have the columns after you execute the command and get the recordset back. What you can apparently do here is insert the Execute Prepared SQL VI in the middle and that will return what you need.
I'm not sure why it worked before. Maybe the execute was hidden inside the prep VI or maybe you can get the column names out of the command object before execution. In general, I would recommend considering switching to the newer VIs.

  • How can I tell if my iPad's GPS is even attemping to get a position fix?

    MC773LL/A  iOS 7.0.4
The main reason I purchased an iPad was to use it as backup for GPS navigation electronics aboard my boat. I've used it several times just to test it, with purchased nav apps, starting from my home port, and everything worked as expected. Recently I didn't power up the iPad until I was at sea but only 15 miles from home port. It could not seem to obtain a position fix, and the GPS arrow indicator did not appear. I had no way of knowing if it was even trying to get a fix. My other GPS devices at least tell me they're trying. Is there some way know if an iPad is even trying to get a first fix? When I returned home, I powered up the iPad and everything worked fine. All the location services settings and others, including wi-fi, were left untouched.
Is there some trick to wake up the iPad's on-board GPS to get it working?
And how would I know that it's activated and trying to get a first fix?
    Thanks.

My iPad has onboard true GPS. It's Model MC773LL/A
The app is iNavX.  The GPS and the app usually work just fine. But, as noted in my original posting, I had an incident where the GPS did not seem to activate. And I could not tell if there was some way to see if it was even trying to get a position fix. The GPS arrow didn't appear. More details in my original posting. My questions remain:
Is there some trick to wake up the iPad's on-board GPS to get it working?
And how would I know that it's activated and trying to get a first fix?

  • I need to get back in touch with UK based technica...

Background - a few weeks ago I received help on the forum in connection with my modem re-booting, usually in the early morning. I got in touch with Bt Customer support who helped by getting the noise level back down but I still suffered from re-booting, consequent increases in snr and lower speeds. I switched from the HH3 to a Billion bipac 7700n router. This was a vast improvement. No more re-booting but occasional re-syncs instead - at least the snr and DSL speed stayed roughly at the same level. I did however want to eliminate the 4-5 re-syncs per day - a nuisance if you are trying to use the PC or streaming music when the connection drops. Customer support advised me to test the router in the BT test socket. Alas, when I looked inside my BT master socket I found that I hadn't got a test socket. Bt Customer support splendidly arranged for a BT engineer to come the next day to fit a test socket. This was just before Xmas.
With Xmas over, guests having gone and continuing to suffer from re-syncing, I connected the router directly to the new BT test socket. In the space of 9 hours there were 4 re-syncs.
I e-mailed Bt customer support an extract from the router's systems log to seek their help. Within minutes I had a call from an operator in BT India who put me through to their technical desk. Unfortunately the technical desk did not have my e-mail and did not seem very interested in the background to my issue. After an hour in the phone I spoke to a supervisor who explained that he could not take my problem further until I had tried a new HH3.
Well the HH3 turned up today. On connection my snr went up to 10db and the DSL speed down from 6656 kbps to 4344 kbps. Needless to say I have disconnected the HH3.
I should add that the BT engineer who fitted the new master socket said that in his view I needed a Broadband boost engineer and that he would put this in his report.
Advice on how to get back in contact with Uk based support would be welcome.  I had been making good progress!

  • My positive experience with FCPX.

In an effort to present the other side of the coin on this forum, that FCPX can work very well, here is my story.
For the last 8 years I've been using Final Cut Express on an older Macs. It worked fine for my various projects, although the incessant rendering would be very frustrating. (I never did find the proper format to prevent it.) When Final Cut Pro X was released, I read about it's shortcomings, so I passed.
Five months ago I was planning to video my nephew's wedding so I looked closely at Final Cut Pro X, but was very daunted by how completely different it was from FCE. A few days later I was in my local Apple Store asking their video expert about the rendering in FCE, basically he said to get FCPX, which not only handles many formats, but renders in the background when needed, and has a lot more features than FCE.
I went home and looked at my first FCPX tutorial online and thought, OK, it looks like I'm going to have to start from scratch to learn it. My MacBook Pro was going on 6 years old, so I also decided to buy a new one that could handle FCPX. I had to stay on Snow Leopard OS 10.6.8 for one vitally important application that was not being upgraded, so I went to the Apple refurb site and found a 17" 2.2Ghz i7 late 2011 that fit the bill (I wanted the ExpressCard slot), marked down from $2600 to $1900, I grabbed it.
I immediately installed 16 GB of RAM, and replaced the internal drive with the one in my old laptop, a fairly new Seagate XT Hybrid 750 GB/16 GB HD/SSD. I then bought FCPX. (After completing one small project, I actually replaced the 750 hybrid with an OWC 960 GB dual platter RAID 0 internal SSD, wow, is it fast. I work my current project there, then when complete, move it to the 750 hybrid or a 3 TB I put in a Seagate GoFlex Thunderbolt adapter .)
I have to admit that it took me a couple of days to let go of FCE and get used to the FCPX Events/Projects system, but I got through it. I did look at tutorials, but actually learned far more by exploring the menus, panes and icons, experimenting, trial and error, and reading this forum.
I finished the wedding video (32 minutes long) in about a week (learning as I went). It was shot with one camera, which forced me to do some creative editing by lifting, moving and zooming various pieces (and cutting around a very oblivious professional photographer), which gave me a multi-camera look. I added a title, transitions, adjusted dark scenes, leveled the audio in many places, diminished airplane and wind noise, and dropped in a sound effect of my nephew breaking a glass under foot (which did not actually break at the time).
I shared the wedding video to my AppleTV2, and to DVD (3 copies), and to YouTube, without any overt problems. Yes, each operation had it's learning curve, but I accomplished them all in a rather short time. The first time I uploaded it to YouTube, it took about 8 hours for a 1080 2.8 GB version, but when it was done, the YouTube site had a message that it was too long, I had to register to have longer than 15 minute videos. I then used FCPX to upload a 720 version (the actual original format), 985MB, which took about 2 hours (even with a 1 mbps upload internet service). It looks great via the YouTube app on my AppleTV2.
The only overt problem I have is a crash once in awhile either at launch or very shortly after, but I delete the prefs and continue on. I also installed some free plugins that seemed to cause some crashing, so I removed them, but the next time I opened the wedding project, I had all kinds of warning triangles. Turned out I used some of the plugins and FCPX warned that they were missing. It took a few minutes of searching this forum to learn how to get rid of those effects, I didn't even have to ask anyone.
I just bought two new 1080p AVCHD video cameras and really look forward to using them for a festival on Sunday where I'm playing with a ukulele orchestra (which I also took up a few months ago). I'm going to tackle the multicam operations with that project (something I did in my own way with FCE, even though it did not actually have that function).
My view of many of the posts on this forum is that either they have a system/hardware problem outside of FCPX, or they do not make enough of an effort to learn and understand FCPX. It takes diligence and patience, which in my experience, really does pay off. I used to dread doing tweaks in FCE, now I look forward to it in FCPX.

I'd just like to add my positive-ness with FCPX! I've used it from 10.0.1 and, since 0.3, I have loved it and raved about it when anyone asks. The multicam feature is amazing! I used to use Vegas MS for some casual editing and the biggest annoyance with FCPX at the start was the magnetic timeline but after a day or so I got used to it and now can't imagine using anything else. I've had the odd crash but they are few and far between. I won't say I haven't sworn at it a few times but the fault is usually mine in the end!
I use an upgraded 2012 MacBook Pro with 16GB memory and a Seagate Hybrid XT disc for my more "beefy" projects but I've found my 2011 MacBook Air works great with smaller projects (4GB RAM and 256GB SSD). Interesting article on fcp.co about MBAs and FCPX if anyone is considering purchasing one.
I tend to learn things as I go along; I know what I want to achieve and then work out how to get there, often with the help of the nice people in this forum . With FCPX, once you understand the basic structure it's not too difficult.
It seems one of the common themes is problems with importing AVCHD / MTS files. Since 0.3 I've never had any problems as long as I follow my basic rules -
Format the SD card in the camera just before use (use "low level" if offered for the first format) and shoot your footage. Use the same quality format on that card throughout the shoot.
Remove the card and plug it into the computer's card reader. Do NOT interfere with or modify the files in Finder in any way!
In FCPX create an archive from the card on a separate external disc. (If the card doesn't show up then try another card reader - there can be differences in USB chipset implementations).
Import to the events from the archive. Once done, repeat from 1.
