Global DEV/PRD

We are going to implement a complex SAP system which includes:
One Financial ECC (DEV-> QAS -> PRD)
One Manufacturing ECC (DEV->QAS->PRD)
One Sales ECC (1 DEV -> 1 QAS -> multiple PRDs devided by organizations)
Each ECC runs its own proecesses, which means the configuration is not the same for 3 of them.
My question:
1) In this situration, is it necessary to build a global DEV in front of those 3 DEV systems?
2) For sales ECC, system is planned to be devided by organization. My understanding is that Global Rollout is suitalbe for this situration, am I right? Global Rollout methodology supports 1 common DEV with multiple PRD systems? We do not want to build too much DEVs for Sales.
3) We are going to manage Change Request by using SolMan, is it better to setup one maintance project or 3 individual projects for each of them?
4) What is the best way to transfer CRs from Sales DEV to multiple Sales PRDs? Assume the configuration is the same cross Sales PRDs.

The questions you ask are a consulting project each in themselves. Short answers to your questions are as below:
1) For a global template rollout, the standard recommendation is to have a template d-q-p systems feeding several d-q-p user system landscapes. However, depending on your development and change processes - you can build your landscape as per your suggestion without the global dev system.
2) When you say divided, does it mean multi client, or multi system? How are you planning on handling your end to end testing requirements with a single QA and multiple Prods when the two systems are not identical? System refreshes? TDMS? In this scenario, you can have a single dev - but multiple QAs is your need. My suggestion would  be build Dev-QA(Multiple)-Consolidation(Template Consolidation)-Prod(Multiple) OR Dev-UnitTest-QA(Multiple)-Prod(Multiple)
3) Its easiest to setup one maintenance project per transport track i.e in your case per production system - though you can setup everything in a single maintenance project.
4) Implement the distibute transports functionality as defined in note 999944.
For supporting this landscape - make sure that you developers and functional configurators know how to use transports efficiently as well as how to maintain versions of programs across multiple prd systems. And best implement Cross System Object Locks to ensure multiple support requirements do not overlap in the development of a single object.

  • Defining SLD Target Systems for DEV, QAS & PRD

    In a 3 tier XI landscape (DEV, QAS, PRD) which of the following two scenarios is best?
    1. In the SLD define each DEV Business System with a target of the corresponding QAS Business System and define each QAS Business System with a target of the corresponding PRD Business System.
    DEV ---> QAS ---> PRD
    This means that we export ID objects from DEV and then import them into QAS. The objects then need to be exported from QAS for import into PRD
    2. In the SLD define the DEV Business Systems with 2 target systems relating to corresponding QAS and PRD Business Systems.
    DEV --> QAS
    DEV --> PRD
    This means that the same export from DEV can be used for import to both QAS and PRD.
    Currently we have scenario 1 implemented but I am thinking of changing this to scenario 2 which I believe is a better solution as only one export is required and it is guaranteed that the same objects are being imported into QAS and PRD.
    Any thoughts or comments?

    I dont think thats a good thing to go with. When you are exporting, how are you going to control in CMS as to which environment you are going to export?
    CMS itslef works on the principle of Develop->QA->PRD. This way, when you are in QA and found some bugs and fix them, you can export them all to QA. Finally you assemble them at QA and finally import them to PRD. This way, all the chaged objects later on would also get imported to PRD automatically.
    Also As per my knowledge, in SLD, one target bus sys can have mulitple sources but the converse is not true.

  • Access Dev Studio J2EE engine via SapRouter?

    I have a group of Developers in another country who wish to use the j2ee engine on our local EP6 machine. They can presently access the R3 Dev system via SapRouter, but the question is: can we configure the j2ee engine in the Developer Workplace see the message server on the EP6 machine? 
    The path to setting is <i>Preferences > SAP J2EE Engine</i>
    For example can we enter something like:
    H/<localsaprouter>/H/<our saprouter>/H/<EP6 ip address>

    As for as I know ,
    We need SAPlogon (higher vertion preferable but not necesary) for such knid of connection. for the saplogon connection you need application server name, system ID and username and password as described below
    You also need some sort of VPN conection.
    Following are the inputs required for creating Connection from SAP Logon Pad.
    1. Application Server = IP Address or Host Name of SAP Server you want to connect.
    2. SAP Router String = If you are connecting via Firewall accross VPN.
    3. System ID = <SID> ex., DEV, PRD...
    4. System Number = <00> ex., 00, 01 ..99
    5. Select radio Button R/3
    6. Give some description under that field.
    Before doing the above please try to PING the Server at Location A from your machine(should be replying).
    I don't think NWDS have this facility of using sap router remote r/3.

  • Configure EWA for our SAP PRD server

    I would like to configure EWA reports for our PRD system.
    In our Solman (7.01), we have the following:
    smsy -> Systems
    Sap ERP ENHANCE PACKAGE with BAS, DEV, PRD and BAS systems
    SAP SOLUTION MANAGER with SSM system
    solution_manager -> Solution Overview
    ERP
    SAP Solution
    In these both solutions, the only EWA reports that I get are for my SSM system.
    I have configured the trusted connections for my PRD.
    Now, how could I tell my solman that I would like that PRD report is also generated in ERP solution?

  • Problems mounting global file system

    Hello all.
    I have setup a Cluster using two Ultra10 machines called medusa & ultra10 (not very original I know) using Sun Cluster 3.1 with a Cluster patch bundle installed.
    When one of the Ultra10 machines boots it complains about being unable to mount the global file system and for some reason tries to mount the node@1 file system when it is actually node 2.
    on booting I receive the message on the macine ultra10
    Type control-d to proceed with normal startup,
    (or give root password for system maintenance): resuming boot
    If I use control D to continue then the following happens:

    Does anyone have any idea why the machine called ultra10 of node ID 2 is trying to mount the node ID 1 global file system when the correct entry is within the /etc/vfstab file?

    Hmm, so for arguments sake, if I tried to mount both /dev/md/dsk/d50 devices to the same point in the filesystem for both nodes, it would mount OK?
    I assumed the problem was because the device being used has the same name, and was confusing the Solaris OS when both nodes tried to mount it. Maybe some examples will help...
    My cluster consists of two nodes, Helene and Dione. There is fibre-attached storage used for quorum, and website content. The output from scdidadm -L is:

But the RAID devices are not referenced by anything from these directories (i.e. there's no /dev/global/md/dsk/50). I just thought it would make sense to have the option of global meta devices, but maybe that's just me!

  • Problems with Transport Management System

    i seem to be having some issues with my Transport Management System, we have a two system landscape DEV & PRD, the operating system is windows 2003 server. i am trying to access the usr/sap/trans on the transport host (DEV) from the PRD system, i have put patches on the DEV server, but i can't access these patches from the PRD server. I have also tried to release a test transport, but the queues are not being updated. the systems are in the same Domain and the same transport group. on the PRD server i have specified the following value for the DIR_TRANS =
    DEVSERVER\sapmnt\trans. i have checked the files and they are shared, what could be the cause of this?

    Can you please check the access of global TRANS directory from your PRD server. Login to your PRD server, goto transaction STMS --> Overview --> Systems. Select your developement system and goto SAP System --> Check --> Transport Directory. If it can access the global directory the tick marks will come otherwise there is some problem with the directory access.

  • Oracle Listener not starting.

    I have installed NW2004s ABAP only on 2003 server with oraccle database. I have installed two instances with SID's DEV & PRD. I have one loop-back adapter and 2 Listeners(OraclePRD102TNSListener and OracleDEV102TNSListener). Initially both the listeners were working fine and now OraclePRD102TNSListener is not getting started and when I try to start it through services.msc, it is throwing the below pop-up
    Listener service on Local computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do,
    for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service.
    I didn't changed any ip address nor any setting. Both the *.ora files are looking good and nothing is abnormal.
    Looking forward your suggestions.

  • SU24 custom value migration to a new system

    We have set up an entirely new DEV-QA-PRD landscape for our Global environment.  I need to transport all of our custom SU24 entries from our North America DEV system to our new Global DEV system.  Both SAP EVV environments are ECC 6.0., so versioning will not be a problem.
    Is there an easy way to gather the entries in one enviroment via transport and import into another?

    There are also download and upload reports available for syncronizing the data beyond system and transport boundaries.
    I would recommend using them, as they also draw a distinction between SAP data, customer data and original data (which you might have).

    Yes, i1n ChaRM we always work with logical systems, I mean clients.
    The standard is:
    DEV -> QAS -> PRD
    However, you can also use:
    - Minimum
    DEV -> PRD
    - Target groups
    DEV -> QAS -> PRD
             - > TST
    DEV -> QA1 -> QA2 -> PRD
    DEV -> QA1 -> PR1
             -> QA2 -> PR2
    There are a lot of combination possible.

    Kindly check the transport requests for the structure in both DEV & PRD.
    Utilities -> Versions -> Version Management.
    Kindly check the transport request in the DEV against the "activ" checked.
    Look for the same request number in the PRD for the structure.
    If there is a mismatch, kindly transport the request in DEV to PRD.
    You cannot directly change the data elements in PRD system.
    It should be done through the transport requests from DEV to PRD.

  • Error while submitting to a report using Parameter of type string

    Requirement: Selection screen has a parameter so as to input the file. under that a checkbox is provided. If this checkbox is checked the program should read the file from desktop and based on that data the report should execute in background mode.
    For this i have done in the following way. by comparing the checkbox and sy-batch i read the file contents placed in AL11 and then submitted the report by setting the path in the parameter. Accordingly when sy-batch eq X i read the file from AL11 from the path specified in the parameter.
    This is working fine in Dev & Prd. But in Quality system i am facing the error like Wrong type passing parameters P_FILE.
    Message No. DB036.

    Cases can be
    1. file name should be in caps (upper case lower case conversion
    2. when executing in bg variant not picked
    3. collision of file path across servers in a system
    In a system there will be servers  like in Quality it can have varying servers ex sapqp1 sapqp2 sapqp3  
    In here qp1 qp2 and qp3 are the servers in quality which can hold the unix data (al11) . If qp2 is directed in your check and if qp2 dosent have the file path it throws error. recently we have faced a similar issue . Problem was solved when basis guys made the setting across all server's to access the path.

    this customizing request created and released, after releasing the request ( carries 5 objects in main task and 2 in Sub task)
    from DEV to PRD , when we opened the same request after importing into PRD we found the main task objects are available but
    the subtask or child task objects are missing, we tried recreating a new task and tried but still not working what is the problem

    HI, when i am executing PC00_m40_PFY  standard report in production server i am getting the below mention Dump..It is not showing selection-screnn also. It directly goes to dump. But it is working in Development server. pls kindly help on this issue.

    the fallowing syntax error occured in program " H1NCEPF1"  in include  "PCPFYIN3" *  in line 21.

    go to SAP Easy access screen,select system in the upper tab,inside it select status,in the popup in SAP System data click info,it will open another popup here you can see SAP_HR,and in the next column are levels(this are support pack level.) compare both DEV & PRD System ,if there is difference in level ask your basis person to help you to upgrade support pack level.Both DEV & PRD SPK Level should be same.
    Also learn from by searching about SPK Level in Forum and SAP service marketplace.
