Gnome doesn't execute .Xmodmap

Apparently they removed the keyboard layout options in the newer Gnome versions. In Gnome 3.2 there was an option to switch caps lock and ESC but it seems to be removed.
Anyway, I created ~/.Xmodmap with following lines:
remove Lock = Caps_Lock
add Lock = Escape
keysym Caps_Lock = Escape
keysym Escape = Caps_Lock
Again, this used to work, didn't it? But now it seems Gnome simply ignores my .Xmodmap. Is there a workaround?

It appears to just be due to lazy design. E.g., all the compose settings are hardcoded in the C code and cannot be customized at all. If you want to use .Xmodmap, you have to switch from the default GTK input method to an alternate one, e.g. xim.

  • CPS-Job - Reply on Console doesn't execute the chosen action

    Dear Developers
    We have a job chain in which we have as default postcondition "On Error
    Action CONSOLE RESTART". Now we have a step on status CONSOLE but a
    reply doesn't execute the chosen action. This is not the first time we
    experience this behaviour.
    Any ideas to solve that problem or any workaround?

    Hello Stephan,

    If this is the same issue as you are experiencing, then the issue is solved in patch 7.0.3.38.
    I would advise you to create an OSS message to have checked if this is indeed the same issue.

    Hi,
    I could not understand what you are trying to do with decode here.
    The standard way of using the decode is like :
    SQL>SELECT DECODE (1 , 1 ,'TRUE','FALSE') FROM DUAL;
    DECO
    TRUE
    1 row selected.
    1* SELECT DECODE (1 , 0 ,'TRUE','FALSE') FROM DUAL
    SQL>/
    DECOD
    FALSE
    1 row selected.
    Please explain what you want to do with DECODE ?

  • Xchat-gnome doesn't start

    Hi,
    I've just made a clean install and for some reason xchat-gnome doesn't start. The window doesn't even show only the notification that the program has crashed. I've tried to compile the package localy but that didn't help.
    I realize this isn't much info to work with but what info would be useful and how do I gather it?
    I would be really glad if someone could help me figure this one out.

    I'm using current, extra, community, testing and unstable.
    nuopus, NeoEx and baze, what repos are you using?
    i use those 5 aswell. the only thing from unstable is gimp-devel. from testing i use
    alsa-lib
    alsa-utils
    ipw3945
    kernel26
    klibc-udev
    openssl
    udev
    and then i use self-built avahi, libburn, nss-mdns and squeeze-svn. not really any packages which i think could cause this stuff to work here.
    i use the hosteurope mirrors, maybe some packages are broken on your server, though i don't expect that.

  • Action doesn't execute in player

    In the app I'm working on (AS 2.0) I have several buttons. I've added an action to each of those buttons:
    on (release)
        gotoAndPlay("fr_test");
    When in Flash, if I enable (Control) Simple Buttons and Simple Actions, this action works like it should. If I test the movie or publish it, the action doesn't execute.
    I've tried another approach with one button. I added an empty layer for actions only, and added the following code:
    this.test_btn.onRelease=function()
        gotoAndPlay("fr_test");
    This doesn't work at all, nor in Flash nor in the player. I wonder what I'm doing wrong here. Changing fr_test to the frame number does not change anything.

    I solved this by starting over with a new flash app. I created buttons and actions, and they worked like I wanted. Then I tried to apply this on the old movie, but that didn't work. So I recreated the movie in the new app. I'm using some very complex drawings, and I messed around quite a bit. I don't know where it went wrong, but it works now for me.

  • HiQ doesn't execute scripts and command line commands

    I am running HiQ pro 4.5 on Windows 2000 SP 2. Whenever I enter a command line command, e.g. "1+1", HiQ reports "no error reported" and doesn't execute the command. When I enter the same command again, HiQ tells me that a semicolon is missing.
    When I try to execute a script, HiQ reports "Fatal Script error on line -1".
    Anybody knows this behaviour and how to get HiQ running normally?

    I do have the same problem.

    I have an odd behavior. I've created a WD for Java application with NW04-SP16, and after a while, I have one BAPI which doesn't execute anymore.
    I've already had this strange behavior and the only solution was to create a new model and import again my bapi.
    Do you know something about that, cause it make me lot of problem ?

  • ICal doesn't execute Automator Scripts

    Since I upgraded to Leopard my iCal doesn't execute scripts anymore. Normaly every day iCal executed a script to check for birthdays and send them a e-mail. Now I can't get this to work. No settings are changed as far I can see.
    Help!!! (I missed already a few birthdays... people hate me... ;-))

    Does it display any kind of error message? It may be that the location of the script has changed. It seems that iCal saves fixed paths to scripts and not aliases. This means that if the path to a script changes it won't run. Try to rename a script and then select it again in the event. You'll want to rename so that you can distinguish it from the previous script entry. iCal only displays the name of the script, not the path used by the alarm.

    I think I took the wrong path to validate the New Zealand specific tax number. Is it possible to set some rules in PRST1_005 in table T005.
    If this is possible then please pass me the steps description.
    Thanks.

    ...I have tried to launch gnome-session under xfce4 WM.
    It starts but stop it after the first charging with this warning:
    Host name lookup failure on local host.
    In addition, it give me:
    Si è verificato un errore durante l'avvio del demome delle impostazioni di GNOME.
    Alcuni aspetti come temi, suoni o impostazioni dello sfondo potrebbero non funzionare correttamente.
    Il demone delle impostazioni è stato riavviato troppe volte.
    L'ultimo messaggio di errore è stato:
    Child process did not give an error message, unknown failure occurred
    GNOME tenterà di riavviare il demone delle impostazioni al prossimo login.
    sorry if it is in italian.
    Ciao.

  • GNOME doesn't work correctly with startx only by GDM

    This is driving me nuts, I'm having a bunch of problems because I'm starting my GNOME session using startx instead of GDM and this bugs me a lot because I prefer startx most of the times...
    1) One of the problems is that the sound does not work with startx. Starting through GDM, the sound is ok. What's even more frustrating is that sometimes, it doesn't even work through GDM
    2) I can't unlock anything in the "System » Administration" menu. All of the "unlock" buttons are grayed out and I can't click them. But it works on GDM. However, whatever setting I change (after unlocking) is not saved...

    tandycorp wrote:But since your settings cannot be saved correctly you should first try to correct that problem, then the audio problem should  be easy to resolve. In my case the settings are saved correctly (I first installed gdm then completely deleted it). You may want to look to the hal wiki and add your user in /etc/d-bus/system.d/hal.conf. It looks like a session problem.
    I've read the wiki but I don't know what should I do to the hal.conf everything seems "normal" to me...
    EDIT:
    I don't know what I've done (changed lots of things lately and configuration files) but the sound seems to be working now... Not every time, but most of the time, it seems so. I have enabled the button sound (when you click a button) temporarily to see if the sound keeps working for the time being...
    Also, the unlock button now is enabled and here's a thing I found about the settings not being saved. I open "Administration » Services", for instance, and click "unlock", input password, enable GDM, which was disabled of course and click "close". I open "Administration » Services" again and with everything disabled, I see that GDM is not checked, still, I click "unlock" again, the services list is unlocked and GDM is still unchecked. But, if I look inside /etc/rc.conf, I can see the gdm daemon was added to the list... If I reboot the computer, GDM will start automatically and if once again I go to "Administration » Services", now I see GDM checked. If I try to uncheck it, it will work, but I will only see the unchecked value in the "Services" window after another reboot. Is this normal?

  • SSH Agent in GNOME Doesn't Work

    Hey There,
    I'm using GNOME for my personal desktop needs.. I have to connect to several remote server (or PC's) in a shell and I don't want to re-enter my passwords in the same session. This is my problem:
    [14:28] (tunix@penguix ~)$ ps aux |grep ssh
    root      6264  0.0  0.0   3756   816 ?        Ss   09:03   0:00 /usr/sbin/sshd
    tunix     6457  0.0  0.0   3400   508 ?        Ss   09:05   0:00 /usr/bin/ssh-agent -- /usr/bin/gnome-session
    tunix    19141  0.0  0.0   3428   784 pts/2    R+   14:28   0:00 grep ssh
    [14:28] (tunix@penguix ~)$ ssh tunix@kulupler
    Enter passphrase for key '/home/tunix/.ssh/id_rsa':
    Last login: Sat Sep 29 14:22:37 2007 from 85.97.128.179
    [14:26] (tunix@kulupler ~)$ logout
    Connection to kulupler closed.
    [14:28] (tunix@penguix ~)$ ssh tunix@kulupler
    Enter passphrase for key '/home/tunix/.ssh/id_rsa':
    [14:28] (tunix@penguix ~)$
    So SSH Agent doesn't cache or save the passwords I enter.. So I have to enter the password each time. (Maybe this is happening because of the same reason why Seahorse doesn't working on my system.. :S)
    Thanks for any replies..

    Did you run ssh-add to tell ssh-agent which key to use ?  If not, ssh-agent will not know anything about any keys/pass phrases you enter into specific ssh sessions.
    There's a pretty good tutorial here, with all the basic steps :
    http://mah.everybody.org/docs/ssh
    WRT seahorse...
    Is seahorse-daemon running ?  I haven't used seahorse, so I only have the following as a reference :

  • Exception handler activity doesn't execute

    I have an exception handler in my bounded task flow but it not always executes when an error is raised by some of the BTF activities.
    In my application I'm having a problem with connections closed.
    I don't know if the database, the firewall or who is closing connections but sometimes I get an error in the logs "oracle.jbo.JboException: JBO-29000: Se ha obtenido una excepción inesperada: java.sql.SQLRecoverableException, mensaje=Conexión cerrada" translation "oracle.jbo.JboException: JBO-29000: Un unexpected exception has been raised: java.sql.SQLRecoverableException, message=Closed connection".
    That is bothering me specially because my task flow continues execution despite of the error. ADF opens the connection and then continues execution. This is fatal because previous updating in the entity objects is lost and the consequence is very bad.
    Well, I have tried to insert an exception handler in my task flow in order to capture this errors and then stop execution of the task flow.
    Currently, I'm more upset because of task flow continues execution after the connection closed error that for the error itself.
    The problem is that sometimes the connection closed appears in the log window but the exception handler is not executed. Sometimes yes, some others no.
    In order to test I'm forcing the error manually killing the sessions in the server.
    Any help for any of both problems ? (1- BTF continuing execution after this error raising and 2-Why the exception handler doesn't always execute when a java error stack appears in the log window).
    Thank you.

    this might be caused by a bug I found too causing eventhandlers not to work, the work round in your case would be:
    blar blar blar
    </variables>
    <!-- start work round --><scope><!-- end work round -->
    <faultHandlers>
    blar blar blar
    blar blar blar
    </sequence>
    <!-- start work round --></scope><!-- end work round -->
    </process>
    i.e. what I'm saying is that top level handler don't work since they are ignored by the engine because they are not in a scope. Try it and see....

  • Audio in Advance Action Doesn't Execute from "On Success" in Quiz Question

    In each of my quiz slides, I have set the On Success action to Execute an Advanced Action.  In the Advanced Action, I have two lines.  The first line is to run audio that says something like "That's Correct - great work - click any key to continue" and the next action line is a jump to slide.  Only the jump to action works.  The audio doesn't run.  Thoughts anyone?

    Sorry, seem to repeat what I already told you about messing up Quiz slides. This problem is also due to that.
    The actions On Success are executed after completing the two-step Submit process. The Submit button is essential. I explained some possible tweaks in this post:
    Question Question Slides in Captivate - Captivate blog
    You'll see how to skip one of the steps, how to attach audio to an object etc.
    In an advanced action everything is always done very quickly, the action will not wait until the audio clip has played before jumping to another slide. Misunderstanding actions.

  • Sound rule doesn't execute properly

    I have a rule that announces the arrival of a particular sender's message with three steps: move the message to a folder, play a sound, bounce the Mail icon. In recent weeks, the message arrives, gets moved, and the icon bounces. Sometime later, when I'm doing something with another message (e.g, replying or sending a new one), the sound kicks in. I've tried reordering the rule steps and had added and removed the "Stop evaluating rules" step, but it doesn't make a difference. Another poster thought it might be related to the fact that I'm using custom sounds vs. system sounds (which do execute immediately).
    Any thoughts?

    "volume: can't open /dev/mixer " is for the users who use OSS so there; you should find out what uses OSS and change it if it is possible and not solely on oss.
    and the error I am having is because I defined the specific software to hwd:0,0. so what i should do is to check my softwares and set the audio output to "default"
    So in another word use you sound card and in output option of your sound card choose "default over hwd:0,0"
