Going from "Audio File" to "Multi-track" Editing in Soundtrack

Howdy!
In Final Cut I've exported multiple clips via right click and "Send to STP as Audio File Project."
Now, I've realized I am doing it all horribly wrong, and I would like to export my entire sequence again as a multi-track project!
Great, but now I have to ask myself, "What about the clips I've already EQed and used the noise cancellation tool on? Do I leave them as they are and just expect for them to go back to their original state? Or should I delete the files that STP made?" When I right click a clip this is the file type that STP made, that FCP links to, "292_1336_03.MOV (sent).stap"
Can I delete that file and about 7 others to make my audio return to it's normal state? Or is there a couple other steps I should do before ruining my life?
Thanks a bunch,
JS

I'd start with a Send to STP Multiclip project. You'll probably have to isolate the clips you already modified individually, only so you don't lay another track-based effect on top of an existing clip-based effect. Then just listen and see what you've got. If it's not going to work for you, well, chalk that up to a "learning moment," or "experiment." I have plenty of those sitting around here. Once you get a handle on the STP workflow it's much faster overall for dealing with an entire project (not so good for single clips).

  • Jerky start on audio, moving to Multi-track

Aloha, I've been working it the new Audition for about 3 weeks now and really enjoying it more with every session. Alot has to do with my learning curve...how did I do this before and how can I do it now. I do have a few observations:
Sometimes the audio cuts off at the very beginning when playing a file do a point where I think "did I hear that right...." I play it again and it's okay. (I'm using a Lynx L22 sound card). I notice this mostly in the File View and not the multi track.
It still seems a little awkward either opening a new or finding a multi track session as compared to AA3. Haven't quite put my finger on it, but it does.
And of course, the ability to burn a project to CD is so important, but the extra step at the moment is okay.
I know this is not a technically observation, but just my impressions from producing radio spots daily.
    Have a great weekend.

    Hey Ed
We are all still learning this new Audition to some extent and while there is not a lot of detail in your post I would probably offer the suggestion to make sure you are using the asio driver for your sound card and make sure that the sample rate is set to the same as the AA5.5 session (assuming you haven't already)  as this is not enforced during playback.
It might not be the answer but it can't hurt.
AA5.5's performance is pretty spectacular compared to AA3 so a 'jerky' start would make me think that there is something else going on . So questions like is it a laptop that you are on, is there anti virus on, what sort of hardware etc you are running could all be helpful to someone offering some other suggestions

  • Audio targeting in Multi Camera edits Premiere 5.5

I am editing 6 days worth of a 3 camera multi camera set up from a seminar I shot last month. I am using Premiere Pro 5.5.
I shot the class with the speaker mic'ed with 2 wireless lapel mics: one mic going into Cam 3 left channel, and one going into Cam 2 right channel; the open channel on both catching ambient audio via camera mics. The thought here was I would have some redundancy in the event one mic popped out due to battery issues, or interference, and still have an audio channel to sync to with PluralEyes.
Camera 1 was a wide shot of the front of room, and had 4 choir mics directed at the audience (to pick up questions and such) and one shotgun focusing on the front where the speaker stood (again, for redundancy) running into a mixer, and then into Cam 1 right and left channels.
In Premiere, I line up all the video shots with PluralEyes (or manually) and then nest that sequence into a new multi cam sequence and begin editing.
When nesting the video and audio into a new sequence and turning multicamera editing on, I get the one track of nested video, and the one track of audio.
My issue is how to get the cleaner audio of the instructor, which is on either CAM 2 or 3 (with the lapel mics), onto the track of CAM 1, which is the only track I am able to hear when doing multi cam edits. If I simply copy the instructor audio onto track 1 in the 'source' sequence,  I lose the audience replies and sound. But I don't know how to mix other channels onto the main track of the parent sequence (source).
I have worked around this by copying the audio from track 2 or 3 onto track 1 in the original (not nested) sequence and that has worked and I could keep on editing. But now, I need to do a group discussion portion, and need the audio from track 1 as well as the others and I am not sure how to mix them into the main audio track that the multicam process requires.
I hope I am clear in my explanation. In essence, how do you get a mix of tracks to show up onto track 1, the only audio track that seems to be able to be read by the multicam feature in Premiere 5.5?
    Many thanks!!
    Mark

Since I didn't want to ask a stupid question, I have been trying to do what
you suggested below, but I am not meeting with success (which means I am
    doing it wrong :o)
I have made my edits in the multi Camera sequence I created and used the
Multi Cam "enabled" setting (labeled this sequence "Multi"), and then
placed the original multiple camera and tracks sequence (labeled
'source' which was first lined up and synced) into the video 2 track in the
    multi cam sequence.
So now I have 2 tracks of the original "Source" sequence in the "multi"
sequence: one cut into shots and one uncut from the original sequence.
But, only the audio is coming in from the first track, even though the
tracks are all activated in the original sequence (nothing muted).
I know I am close, but not sure what I am doing wrong, and the audio from
the tracks is important for the final product.
    Thanks again!

  • How do you convert a single audio file into multiple tracks?

Ive got a cassette tape that I captured. Now I want that single file to be chopped up into multiple tracks.
from there, can we burn to cd with the multi tracks? or do we need another cd burner program?
also the only way Ive been able to get rid of big pops is highlight them and cut them out. the automated processes have not been able to do this for me.
is there a procedure somewhere for this that I can follow?
    thanks for your assistance.
    best, M/

    Jimi
this is exactly what I did with a previous cd. I thought it seemed like the long way round.
was hoping for a more automated solution.
when I came from XP land, I used to use Premiere Pro 2.0 and there was a Pro editing software that came with the Premiere suite, I forgot what it was called, but it did that automatically after adding markers and it was way better at eliminating clicks and pops.
there was a view you could use where you could see the annoying noises by looking at it using several differnt views (like looking at an infared image).
definetly had its advantages but I could not keep XP running. I got errors, blue screens, viruses, spywares, costs lots of money to fix an lots of downtime.
so far the mac as worked without any major glitches (touching wood)

  • How to remove image files from audio files

i dont understand enough about how itunes worked...So my problem is, when i would add album art to a song, i would copy and past to the artwork box on the song. When i would find a better image, i would just past over the last one, not realizing that it was actually adding another image. This form of Copy/past(as i understand) saves the image to the audio file. *My question:* how do i remove the image files from the audio files...?

Right click on the file you want to remove the artwork from, choose Get Info then the Artwork tab, click on the image and press the delete button then OK. To remove from multiple items, highlight the adjacent tracks in your selection (click on the first in the list, hold down the shift key and click on the last), right click and choose Get Info, choose yes when you are asked if you want to edit multiple items, tick the box beside the small empty artwork window about halfway down on the right. (if the songs aren't adjacent to each other but spread through out the playlist or library CTRL & Click on each of the songs you want to highlight)

  • Automating creation of MobileMe Gallery from audio files in iTunes

    Hi
I am wanting to create a MobileMe Gallery of a few songs in my iTunes library. The only option to do this is to wrap MP3 files in a .mov container as MobileMe gallery doesn't support audio files. I have worked out all the necessary steps to do this and would now like to automate the process. Here is the sequence I follow manually:
    1. Select tracks in iTunes
    2. Convert these Apple Lossless files to MP3
    3. Add MP3 files to playlist
    4. For each track in playlist:
    5. Convert album image (.jpg) in album folder to max 640 width (so movies will play on iPhone)
    6. Open resulting image in Quicktime Pro
    7. Open Audio File in Quicktime Pro
    8. Copy Image and Paste into Audio File in Quicktime Pro
    9. Share File to Email using Quicktime Pro (this is the best way I've found of creating a small .mov file which just creates a container the same size as the image file and the audio file - presumably there's a way of exporting in the same way)
    10. Drag .mov file created from Email created to MobileMe Gallery in iPhoto.
    11. Repeat for each track
So I am looking for a way of automating this as much as possible, and wondering if applescript or automator would be the best way to go.
Ideally I would also like the script/automation to be able to create a .mov file slideshow of all images in the album folder (sometimes there is more than one image there), dividing the number of images by the length of the track (perhaps using the 'Add to selection and scale' feature in Quicktime Pro).
Finally one issue I am experiencing - converting the image file to max width 640 does allow the movie file to be played in the MobileMe Gallery from an iPhone, but the file that opens in the Movie Player on the iPhone doesn't show the image(s) in the .mov file, it just plays the audio. I wonder why this is happening?
Any advice on any of this would be much appreciated!

  • Stumped. Pan Tool Doesnt work from Audio File

What the heck? I'm teaching a course on Audio Editing, and discovered **WHILE TEACHING** that the pan tool doesn't work from within an Audio File. Not that it's a particularly practical place to use it, but it was just when I was showing the students what an envelope is, and they were extremely confused!
When editing a single audio file, if you click the "Master Envelope" button on the bottom left, it brings up VOLUME and PAN. Volume works normally, but pan doesnt work at all There has to be a good reason for this, though I can't think of one.

  • IMovie multi-track edit

I am trying to learn iMovie and I'm struggling with it. I am quite used to a linear video editor where the video and audio are on separate tracks and can be edited/cut accordingly.
Anyways, round 2 of my video projects needs interviews and background music. I cannot figure out how to manage two simultaneous audio tracks in a visually understandable arrangement... I cannot find how to crossfade/edit the audio in this version of iMovie!!!
    Goal-
Play a song during the photo and video montage portion, then during an interview portion, fade down the background song and then raise up the volume once again for the next song&montage after the interview.
Using iMovie '11 on Lion 10.7.3

First some general info, then to your specific question.
If you are doing interviews, the Cutaway feature will help you greatly for adding B-Roll. Here is a Tutorial. http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/imovie_09_stone.html#cutaway%20pip
For sound, there are several ways to do that.
If you use Cutaway, the interview sound continues during the the cutaway.
If you are using Voiceover. You can select the Voiceover track and open the Inspector to the Audio tab. Select the Ducking Feature. Set the percentage to diminish all other tracks except the selected track. When the voiceover track completes, the normal volumes for music will continue. If you want to adjust the volume in just one audio track without affecting the other audio tracks, just use the volume slider rather than the ducking feature.
For greatest control over music tracks, do not drag them in as background music. Rather, drag them in and drop them on the video clip where you want them to start. They will appear as a ribbon beneath the video clips. You can easily move, shorten, etc.
Here is a Tutorial from Apple that shows the audio features including ducking. http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/imovie08.html#audioclips
There are new audio features in iMovie 11 that are not covered in the iMovie 08 Tutorial. You can see an overview here under "All New Audio Editing". http://www.apple.com/ilife/video-showcase/

  • Breaking up one long audio file into cd tracks

I have an hour long concert that is one audio file (16bit/44Khz/Aiff). I want to make a CD of it without any gaps. Is there a way to put tracks/markers in this audio file and have Itunes burn it? I want to be able to jump to each song on the CD.
    Thanks
    Gary

I don't know if itunes will do this, and what you want is not possible with an audio CD format anyway. If you want tracks on an audio CD the file has to be split up. You'll need an audio editor such as Audacity to do that (unless itunes has added a lot since version 7.5). However, with some burning software you can minimize the gap between tracks so you only get a slight hiccough at the transition.

  • How can I revert my audio clips that I have edited in Soundtrack Pro back to the original audio?

I edited a project in FCP6 and sent numerous audio clips to Soundtrack Pro where I sampled and removed some AC and fridge compressor
hum from some interview footage.  I'm sending the project out for professional sound mixing and they advised me to restore the original
audio to prevent the creation of artifacts when they process the sound in a different program.
Is there some way to "revert" all my clips that I edited in Soundtrack Pro back to the original audio without going back to
my original interview footage and cutting in clip by clip?  (Next time I'll save my original audio on a duplicate timeline -- live and learn!)
Thanks in advance for any helpful ideas!

What happens if duplicate the sequence, then choose one of them to use "match frame" to get back to the original clips?

  • Using Audio Sync for Multi-Cam Edits Premiere Pro CC

Hello everyone - I wanted to share some issues I've come across while using Audio to sync multiple camera angles....
For my music video shoot I have two cameras and an external recorder where I capture the audio and then edit in GarageBand or Adobe Audition. The problem I've discovered is that when I sync the clips using audio it will degrade the quality of my finalized audio clip.
Basically, something is happening to the audio clip quality once Premiere completed the synchronization process. I've rendered the video, exported the video etc... But there is still audio quality degradation.
I've compared this with Final Cut Pro X and the Audio in FCP X remains unchanged and is not altered in any way.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Update: I just happened happened to have a pair of ath m50s lying around.... put them on and I can see that in the multi cam sequence, I can hear only out of the left ear... once I drag and drop something to my timeline the audio's good again...
    Sorry for this question... operator???
I shoot tech videos on YouTube and I edit my own videos, so I guess I am the operator & observer here...
    Am shooting a tutorial...
Cam 1 - My Camcorder that shoots the phone
Cam 2 - Actually a screen recorder that records the steps on screen & audio from webcam
Audio - Blue Spark Digital recording to audacity
Now if I merge Cam 1 & Audio or Cam 2 & Audio alls fine... I can check the audio meters and everythings the same as before
But if I create a multicamera sequence then the audio output is about 20% lower (and no Premiere's not using the audio source from Cam1 or 2 here since they are too low and am 100% sure its not either of those)
I guess am messing up something but am unable to identify what..
    Syncronize Point - Audio
    Track Channel - 1
    Sequence Preset - Automatic
Audio Sequence Settings - Camera 1
Audio Channels Preset - Automatic (or Mono since my Blue Spark records in mono)
    Camera Names - Enumerate Cameras
Any Idea where am messing up?

  • Going from PSD file to Illustrator image trace: Background not transparent

Okay guys so a friend has drawn me a "man" in Psd and I want to convert it in AI because I don't want it to look very pixely (great scientific term). The man is on a transparent layer as below:
I was then able to bring it into illustrator fine. I used the image trace function and got some great results. The image looks more as I intended.(below). The only problem is the transparent layer goes and is replaced by a white layer. This "man" needs to be placed on top of other elements and so the bg needs to be transparent. I've scoured the forums but couldn't find a conversion topic specific to the image trace function. Is there a way to do this without the bg turning white? Am I importing the file wrong into illustrator? Is it the settings of the image trace function? I'm very new to illustrator so would very much appreciate all the help I can get.
    Cheers,
    Cam.

look at your trace settings and (in CS5 at least) tick Ignore white.
