Going wireless on G4-found a nice gadget. Macsense Areopad Mini

Was going to buy a Linksys router and some USB adaptors to get 2 dells and my G4 wireless but after reading this and others, went with a Belkin instead. Problem was finding the drivers for the USB that worked with the OS9 or OS X10.1
Stopped by Frys today and found a Macsense Aeropod Mini (model WUA-801). Basically connects to the back of your G4 through the RJ45 connector and is a wireless adaptor that then communicates with your router (my Belkin).
Set up was easy and minimal issues.
Just thought I would throw this up, had not seen this device on anyones replies on how to get set up wireless.
Sending this from my now online G4

Installed the MacSense (just marking as answered, sorry first post here)

  • Why is my wireless network not found?

I have just installed HP Deskjet F4500 on my PC. I want to connect to my wireless network connection but it keeps telling me "wireless network not found". (I am using my wireless so I know that the wireless connection is fine.) I have all correct details (correct network, SSDI, WPE encryption code) for installation but no luck.
I have a Netgear DG834N router. I did run the www.hp.com/go/networksetup analyser which told me that HP is not currently supporting the router. Can that be right?
    This question was solved.

OK, let's go check the router's settings:
Type 192.168.1.1 into a browser.  The login is 'admin' and the password is 'password'.
On the left side, choose Wireless Settings under the Setup heading.  You should see your SSID.  Make sure the Mode is set to 145Mbps.  Here you can choose your Security Options.  I highly recommend WPA2-PSK (AES).  If you have WEP, please change it.  WEP is not secure.  If you change your security settings, choose a passphrase that is at least 13 characters, numbers and letters, upper and lower case.  You will have to re-enter this into all of your wireless devices.
Now, lower on the left side, choose Wireless Settings under the Advanced heading.  Make sure that SSID broadcast is checked.
If you changed anything, check Apply toward the bottom.
Let me know what you found.

  • I found an old iPod classic of mine.  It's not synced to my new MacBook Pro.  How can I get the music and photos off of it and on to my new computer?  When I plug it in to my new computer it wants to erase what is on it and transfer from my new computer.

I found an old iPod classic of mine that is synced to a computer that is long gone.  I want to get the music and photos from this old iPod onto my new computer.  Every time I hook the iPod up to my new computer it wants to delete what is on the iPod and replace with the contents of the iTunes that is currently on the new computer.  I don't want to do that.  I want to keep what is on the old iPod and transfer it to iTunes.  Any help?  Thanks!

  • Going wireless . . . what's involved?

I need some help understanding what's involved. My iMac G5 needs a wireless card installed. Should I go with an Airport base (?) or can I get by with a cheaper, non-Apple product? I don't plan on streaming iTunes throughout the house . . . at least not now . . . and I don't think I'll miss wireless printing. Plus, the budget it tight. Care to weigh in?
Next, I presently have DSL installed. An [I think] ethernet cable goes from my G5 to the box with lights on it that gets plugged into the phone jack. What--if any-part of that goes away if I go wireless--other than the ethernet cable?

An answer sure would have been nice . . .

  • Photosmart 7515 connect via USB but not wireless, Device not found on Network

Purchased a 7515 all-in-one, was able to setup wirelessly to MacPro but has lost ability to connect wirelessly.  This happened with OS X Lion and nor MountainLion.  Have a TimeMachine Airport.  Printer connects to network but during setup from MacPro, repeatedly get "Device Not Found on Network" after stepping through wireless installation setup screens.  I have reset router, printer, firmware updates, software updates.... at wits end.  I have followed the instructions on the below resource page link with no luck.  Use WPA-PSK encryption (Automatic AES or TKIP) on network and diagnostics on printer pass.

It sounds like the Macs and the printer just aren't communicating.
If you press the network icon on the printer, does it indicate it is connected to the network?
I recommend two additional steps that are not listed in the linked document.  The printing system of the Mac may need to be reset as it will clear any software that could be interfering (such as corrupted installations).
Follow the steps as outlined for 10.7 or 10.8 in this document from HP.
The next step is to install the driver package from Apple.  This can be found here.

  • Going wireless with a G4 Quicksilver?

I've recently passed down a G4 Quicksilver to someone who plans on using it in a home where hard-wiring an RJ45 would require too much drilling.
Any suggestions on providing him with a suitable wireless card that will work with 10.4.11 and a Linksys WRT54GL wireless router?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
First off, I hope you followed these steps*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/selling.html
Secondly, this article explains, only the original Apple Airport card will work with the QuickSilver:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1621
With a bit of googling I found this was the cheapest original Apple Airport card:

    I have never tried them.

  • Going Wireless?

After having tried to do a little bit of research regarding getting my machine connected to the internet, I'm finding at least perceived roadblocks.
The main computer with the internet access is a Windows machine with a DSL Ethernet connection. My computer is an older Beige PowerMac G3 300 bought in late 1998, running OS 9.2.2 (...mainly because I still can't seem to get the OSX Panther we bought 2 years ago to work on it! But that's another story, I digress...)
I have dragged my computer up to the house (where the internet connection is located), plugged the Ethernet into it and surfed with no problems. What I'd like to do, however, is set this thing up with a wireless connection so I can avoid that hassle. Oh, I should mention my computer is in a tack room -- I train horses -- in a barn 200+ feet away from the existing DSL connection.
I've found several routers that seem to say they'll work, they are Mac compatible (a Belkin one mentioned OS9.2), but what sort of card for my machine?
Thus far, nothing I've seen says anything about Mac, other than a couple of the PCI cards saying they're OSX compatible.
    Help!
Beige PowerMac G3   Mac OS 9.2.x

    SunItLady,
    Welcome to discussions.
Mmmm, 200+ feet. Open air ? ie. no other buildings in between ?
You see, at that distance, we're really pushing it for a reliable wireless connection. You're even pushing it for a reliable wired Ethernet connection (Given that if you lay Ethernet cable, it'll almost definitely run alongside power or copper water pipes).
If it was me, I'd think about using both, if it was suitable. Running Ethernet cable halfway or 2/3 of the way and attaching wireless to the end of that, with wireless for the G3. But that would need a suitable building with power 2/3 of the way to the tack room.
Does this give you any ideas ? If you already have wireless, could you put a wireless repeater half way to the tack room ? It would be a normal wireless router that would bridge the 200ft gap, making it 2 100ft gaps. Again, suitable building halfway required.

  • ATV stream wirelessly w/o any other additional gadgets but Airport Extreme?

Hey, I am sure this is probably a stupid question and may have been answered, but I just want to clarify that since I have APPLE EXTREME streaming wirelessly that it will stream to Apple TV without any other additional adapters, etc?? I ask because I own WDTVLIVE and while I enjoy that it plays almost every format, I am having a heck of a time trying to get it to stream wirelessly. I've bought several USB wireless adapters "claimed" to be compatible, but they didn't work. In any event, I am thinking about just purchasing ATV since a working adapter could cost just as much (if I ever find one that works??) if I can get a confirmation that it connects wirelessly as my IPOD, IPHONE, LAPTOP does through my Airport Extreme?? I am correct to assume that it's just a matter of plugging in the device and it should detect my Airport Extreme without any other additional Wireless gadgets??
Thanks in advance for whomever answers.

How do you know this if the new Apple TV has not even shipped yet? I was wondering the same thing. I currently stream iTunes media library through Airport Extreme w/Hard drive. If this is true then that would be amazing. I might buy 3 of them for different rooms of my house.

  • X41 wireless adapter not found

I have just reinstalled XP on my x41 version  2525-65g     using a version of XP professional  I happened to have.
I thought that I had re-installed all the drivers but I keep getting the message "No supported wifi adapters in the system in the system".  I have installed Intel PROset/wireless utility  which used to work before the reinstall.
I am also having trouble getting bluetooth going as well.
I have various drivers with yellow question marks in device manager.
Can anyone tell me what to try next?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Please first of all identify the unkown wireless device as described here to verify, that the "factory-default" wireless lan-card is built in.
Next step will be to uninstall all wrong WiFi-drivers if installed (Controlpanel - Add or remove Software).
The WiFi driver for the Intel of  your X41 is this one:
    - Intel PRO/Wireless 2200bg, 2915abg, 3945bg, 3945abg, 4965ag, 4965agn Mini PCI adapter.
(view the readme in the ZIP-file with Wordpad)
Sometimes users tune up their wireless by replacing it by an Atheros/Phillips WiFi-Card:
    - ThinkPad 802.11abg, 802.11abgn, 802.11bg, and 802.11bgn Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter
    or Cisco Wireless lan:
    - ThinkPad Dual-Band ab and 802.11abg wireless LAN Mini PCI adapter
Please read the installation instructions on the concerning download-page.
    Have success.

  • Going wireless on an older imac

How do i achieve this? I have a d-link which works perfectly thru an ethernet link, but i want to put my son, who has a pc, onto the internet too. So i have a wireless router( DSL - G604t) and an aeropad mini. I dont understand why they both have different addresses, I have no 'airport' option on my system pref and I seem to be going in logic circles. I am internet enabled, but not wireless. EEEEK !
    Can anyone help?

If your question is how to go wireless on an older iMac it would help if you mentioned which iMac model. However, most "older" iMacs would use the standard airport card 11b which is scarce and if you find one it's pricey.

  • Going Wireless with G5

    Hi there,
    Here is my problem....
I currently have a wire going into my Mac from a modem so that I can use internet. THE mac is in a very akward position and I want some mobility with it. In short I want it to be wireless. Is this possible with the model I have? If not what would I need?
    Cheers,
    HArry

If your model has an Airport Card fitted (Look in  > About This Mac > More info > Network > Airport), you can use an Airport Express Base Station to create a wi-fi network by connecting the AEBS to the router by ethernet. The setup instructions with the AEBS are simple and easy to follow.
If the model doesn't have an Airport card fitted you can use two AEBSs, one connected to the router and the other to the Mac (also with an ethernet connection). The one connected to the router is the master and creates the network, the one connected to the Mac is used in Bridge mode to connect to the existing network.
Finding and fitting the correct card for your Mac is likely to be more expensive than buying two AEBSs, though it may be cheaper to replace your existing router with a wireless one and just use one AEBS in Bridge mode.
Other possible solutions for the G5 end include USB wi-fi dongles, but getting one that will work with your model may be hard work.

  • Going wireless with FiOS--do I need Airport?

Hi, everyone. I'm signed up to get FiOS internet later this month. They provide an Actiontec MI-424-WR wireless router. The FiOS rep told me he thinks I'll also need an Airport base station, but do I? The Actiontec is a wireless access point just like the Airport--why would I need two?
I want to print wirelessly, too, and hope this setup will work:
--Plug the HP 4ML printer's Farallon Ethernet bridge into the Actiontec. Yup, my SCSI laserprinter is 15 years old, but thanks to the bridge, it works with all my Macs.
--Plug the Epson 777i inkjet's USB connection into the iMacDV (no wireless card) and plug the iMac's Ethernet cable into the Actiontec. Here's the only place I can see where I'd need Airport (maybe Express)--replacing the iMac as the bridge from a USB printer to the Actiontec's Ethernet.
    TIA for advice!

    PhillyJan,
I do have some direct experience with Verizon FiOS, and the Actiontec router. There are some very weird things that go on between the FiOS "box" and the router, where the box actually takes control of the router's settings. Also, the only access to admin functions on the router are through ethernet, so you can't configure on the fly using a wireless connection.
However, with a little research and patience, it can all be made to work well (it certainly is fast enough ;-)). First, you have to figure out the "default" admin access settings on the router. The authentication strings for the Actiontec can be found in the documentation (I don't recall what they are off the top of my head), but it might help if you could query the person that does the installation while he/she is present.
What I found particularly annoying was that I couldn't change the settings for the wireless router (SSD, password, etc.). Apparently, these settings are controlled by the FiOS box, and will reset themselves even if you perform a "hard reset" on the router. When it reboots, the FiOS box (again, apparently) loads a preset configuration into the router. All I could ever manage to do was to reset the router's admin login to the factory default, thereby gaining the ability to ascertain the password to connect wirelessly.
Perhaps there is a way to actually change the authentication settings/protocols on the router, but I couldn't find any in the time I had (this was not my hardware, but a family member's). Again, the installation tech may be able to help. Regardless, the router works perfectly well, once you know the password for connection.
For wireless printing, I really do recommend an Airport Express. If you can manage placing it where it can be connected to a stereo at the same time, all the better. It is easily configured to connect to the existing wireless network, and it will do so seamlessly. It is also great to take along when you travel, in case you find a hotel with ethernet, but no wireless service.
Keep in mind that a single Airport Express could serve to wireless share both of your printers, using a USB hub. Hmmm.

  • N8 Wireless AP not found when made private

    Hello,
I am trying to figure out if this this is an N8 or Router problem.  My home wireless router - when it is set to public - no password - the N8 connects to it - no problem.
But as soon as I make it private and use WPA-Mixed security - it no longer shows up in my list of found wifi devices.
Does the N8 support all kinds of wireless security - WEP WPA WPA2 WPA-Mixed?
Any suggestions on what to do?

  • Linking by Ethernet to sync, and then, going wireless from then on

Has anyone done their initial sync wired, and then gone wireless? Depending on your setup, B, G, N, or signal strength, going wired would certainly decrease your "upload" / sync time on the first one (40gb). Once the 40gb is synced, then you could go wireless, and hook it up to your tv proper.
    Anyone done this? Just curious.

I believe G is theoretically 54 compared to ethernet's 100. So there could effectively be a significant increase in speed. If you plug in the ethernet connection, others have posted that it turns off wireless and configures itself just as it would when using the wireless connection. Once you unplug ethernet, I don't know if you have to re-enter the password for the wireless connection, but I'd think that you wouldn't have to.
One more thing to try wirelessly is to make sure your base station's settings is set to exclude 802.11b connections. Kinda like USB 1 and 2, using a slow device makes the network slow down significantly to compensate. Setting it to G only means you can't use older devices with it, but now it won't slow down either.
