Google Sitemaps

I am wondering what is the best way to handle google sitemaps
using coldfusion. I know it could be created by hand but the
obviously problem is that every time i updated or added a page, i
would have to go edit the sitemap file, and realistically i will
often forget and then the sitemap file will inevitably become out
of date quickly. so i am thinking it would be nice to have a
template that is scheduled to run every night or something, that
will go and scan the files on my site and then generate the sitemap
file. so that way when i update or add pages i don't have to worry
about doing anything because i know that at the next scheduled
interval, the sitemap will automatically be regenerated.
does that sound reasonable or are there better ways to do
this?
and with that said, does such a template, custom tag, cfc...
already exist?

Writing a script that scans your site's directory would not
be that difficult. You begin to get more complicated if your site
has multiple subdirectories to deal with.
But if your site is like a lot of mine, there are test.cfm,
tryThis.cfm, etc.cfm files hanging around. (I know, not good
housekeeping, but that's just the way it is.) You don't want these
appearing in your site map. So you have shifted the responsibility
from "remember to update the site map" to "remember to get rid of
those test files."

  • RSS, WAP, Google SiteMap etc. in APEX 3.1?

    Hi,
    just retrying after awhile. Generation of RSS feeds, WAP pages or Google SiteMap hints worked well via application processes invoked by links like http://site/pls/htmldb/f?p=9774:::APPLICATION_PROCESS=RSS in APEX 2.x.
    Are there any hints how to get it work in 3.x? Links like http://site/pls/htmldb/f?p=9774:::APPLICATION_PROCESS=RSS open the application home page, links like http://site/pls/htmldb/f?p=9774:101:0:APPLICATION_PROCESS=RSS return nothing.

    I think my issue is with this AJAX script.
    <script language="JavaScript1.1" type="text/javascript">
    function getUserList()
    var ajaxRequest = new htmldb_Get(null,&APP_ID.,'APPLICATION_PROCESS=getUsers',0);
    ajaxRequest.add('P200_SEARCH',html_GetElement('P200_SEARCH').value);
    ajaxResult = ajaxRequest.get();
         if(ajaxResult)
              html_GetElement('UserListDiv').innerHTML = ajaxResult
    else
              html_GetElement('UserListDiv').innerHTML = 'null'
         ajaxRequest = null;
    </script>
    1) I ran this past Firebug, no error reported in console when I type something in P200_SEARCH text box.
    2) I triple checked the application process getUsers and ran it independently in SQL Workshop and there was nothing wrong with it.
    Really at loss what's wrong and how to go on about fixing it. This is my first foray into AJAX. I do understand what the code is doing but fail to see why its not yeilding any result.
    Would be grateful is someone can give me any pointers to what the issue might be.

  • Google Sitemap Generator "Error"

    Hi,
    When I click the ""Create Sitemap" button in the Google Sitemap Generator, 4 pages appear as correct; complete with title & description/keyword info.
    However, one page ("The Music...") appears with an ERROR indication stating:
    Ambiguous Redirect. Link at http://www.music4yourevent.com/About%20Me.html
    It says that there is no description for this page (though I have edited it identically to the other pages using TextEdit).
    ...and the box for this page is automatically unchecked
    I have no idea what to do about this (or if it is even important).
    Any advice?!
    Thanks! Wm

    That seems to have solved all problems! (I changed it to "The Music" in iWeb.)

  • Google sitemap - neurotic web question

    Hi Everyone!
    I'm trying to follow the directions given to create a google sitemap. When I enter my URL into neurotic web I don't get a list of all my sites, I just see a list showing the main URL. I click on the + sign next to my url listing and nothing happens. I fear this means that there is something wrong with my site, though all the links work in the site itself so that can't be the case. But why doesn't neurotic web see my links so that I can put the + sign next to them and create my list?
    AND.....I have verified my site. The main page appears when searching for it by name or by the content on the main page, but the content on the other pages can't be found through google. Will the other pages just appear magically over time if I don't do a sitemap? If so, I'm willing to just hang on until that happens. If not I have a problem. Most of my important content is on the other pages.
    If it matters my site is www.pantherpeakbindery.com and, again, I have verified it through google and that went well.
    Any help would be appreciated. Doing this stuff is fun for a few hours but then it becomes a bit tiresome -- ignorance isn't always bliss, it seems.
    Thanks!

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <urlset xmlns="http://www.google.com/schemas/sitemap/0.84">

    </urlset>
    The above is the sitemap format for the main pages of your website. Copy and paste this into TextEdit and then save it as a plain text file in Unicode UTF-8 format. You can add any additional links that are on each page simply by copy and pasting those links within the same format of the sitemap.xml document. (Just add them before the </urlset> tag. Also make sure that each URL has the <url><loc> and </loc></url> enclosing tags.)
    The idea behind this is that if the spiders can't find your links, then you put the links in yourself. That, ultimately, is the purpose of making a sitemap... to let the spiders know exactly where the links are.

  • DMX Zone Google Sitemap Generator

    Hello,
    I have succesfully used this generator (
    http://www.dmxzone.com/ShowDetail.asp?NewsId=10538)
    on smaller websites (10 pages on so) but it has a few problems with
    my website (http:www.forbiddencityfc.com/) with 3,000 files (inc
    gifs, gallery pages, forums, etc).
    Firstly, XP gives a pop up every few minutes warning that the
    script has been running for some time and do I want to continue.
    This is annoying because it stays in the background and you don't
    see it immediately. (is there a way to change this value?)
    The main bug which crashes the program is when the file can
    not be read. My forums are online and the forum.php page is not
    readable on my local drive. When you click ok, the program has a
    few error messages then stops. You need to be able to exclude
    certain pages in the file generator or atleast click ignore when
    the file can not be found / read. Please let me know if these bugs
    can be fixed, or if there is a better program to use.
    I have tried other java online generators but they don't seem
    to work so seamlessly as this one could (atleast on smaller sites).

  • Is there a way to create an xml sitemap within Dreamweaver 2014?

    Just wondering if there's a way to create an xml sitemap withing Dreamweaver 2014.

    No automagic buttons for it.  You could do it manually in code view but there are online generators and desktop apps that are better suited to the task.

  • Does anyone know how to get Google Spider to read a JSF ADF web site???

    This is a re-post, but we really need help here. We've created a great Internet site using JDeveloper and JSF (www.sidehire.com), but the Google spider cannot read the site or index it. This is hurting our business because customers can not find our site. Can anyone help?
    We are trying to get our Jdev 10.1.3.1-developed JSF/.jspx web site running on Apache/Tomcat to be crawled by the Google search engine (without success so far.)
    We've read that the Google crawler will see our page the same way the Lynx Text Browser sees our page (see: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35156&query=lynx&topic=&type=). When we point the lynx text browser at the home page for our site which is a .jspx page executed through the ADF Faces filter, the lynx browser shows a HTTP status 500 initially caused by:
    java.lang.NullPointerException oracle.adf.internal.view.faces.ui.laf.base.xhtml.XhtmlLafRendere.renderStyleClassAttributes (XhtmlLafRenderer.java:691)
    oracle.adf.internal.view.faces.ui.laf.oracle.desktp.HeaderRenderer.prerender(HeaderRenderer.java:334)
    etc. (sorry can't post entire trace right now)
    Any ideas / advice around getting a .jspx / JSF application to successfully be crawled by the Google Search Engine?
    Is this related to the renderer? Does anyone have experience with Google indexing a JSF website?
    thanks

    Is the issue related to oracle.adfinternal.view.faces.. classes supporting a Lynx user-agent? If so, this would be very bad because Google will not index your web site if it can't crawl it.

  • Can't get added to google HELP please

    I have submited my URL to Google both my imac and my forwarding url
    I have edited the html and had my .mac address verified
    It has been two weeks still no action on Google. Why?
    I was not able to get my forwarding url verified (does this matter)
    404 error I think
    What else should I do. Should I use a different server to host my domain?
    Thanks in advance for the advice

    imac 24"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Here are some more details on how to get your site listed more/better/faster:
    1. Go to http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl and submit your URL.
    Submit both yourdomain.com (if you have one) and http://web.mac.com/yourusername
    FYI, if you use forwarding on yourdomain.com, Google will be happier/more likely to index your mac.com addresses, since that is where your actual pages and content reside. No way around this.
    2. Submit your site (either URL) to http://www.iwebusersites.com
    I recommend giving Will your mac.com URL - I have found through some personal research that this is THE KEY to getting iWeb/.Mac sites indexed! I have checked google stats on my many sites created in iWeb and hosted on Mac.com. The ones that I submitted as http://web.mac.com/varkgirl are indexed thoroughly, others (for example, one of my recent creations, http://www.affordabledigitalphotography.com) which I gave to Will in the format of mydomain.com instead are NOT indexed!!! (YET)
    3. Get other people you know to post links to your site, and you should include your url when you post in bulletin boards/forums, etc (such as this one).
    The more places your links are, the more likely Google is to find you.
    Again, I believe the Mac.com URL is the way to go. Again, from my Google index stats, pages on my http://www.aardvarkland.com site which I frequently post on this board (specific iWeb tip pages for example) where I (or others) post the exact URL rather than my aardvarkland.com URL are indexed, other pages that have not been posted here are not.
    4. Add Meta tags to your pages.
    Get MassReplaceIt
    http://www.hexmonkeysoftware.com
    Here's a page on how to use it:
    http://web.mac.com/will.englefield/iWeb/WillG4PB/MRI.html
    Tell it to search for
    </head>
    Replace with
    <meta name="description" content="insert description of your site"><meta name="keywords" content="keywords for your site separated by commas"></head>
    You can also give your pages more descriptive titles by changing what it says between <title> and </title>
    5. This is a big one: Check the text on your page - perhaps it is being converted to images.
    Make sure you use a web safe font, put text in text boxes, not shape boxes, and don't add effects (shadows, etc) to the text or text boxes. This way Google has something to search on your pages.
    6. Create a sitemap and submit it to Google
    https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/docs/en/about.html
    in conjunction with this
    http://www.sitemapdoc.com/Default.aspx
    There are instructions for doing this all over the forum if you do a search for "google sitemap" or something like that.
    7. Wait patiently. It takes time :)

  • Site Studio Sitemap

    Hi all,
    I believe there is a sitemap fragment that comes with Site Studio, but is it able to generate an XML file? Something that Google could crawl?
    Trying to find any docos on it...not going well.
    Thanks alot

    There's no pre-built google sitemap generator. You can make your own, there are three steps:
    1. Generate the sitemap using idoc - there should be some sitemap fragments that come with sitestudio. Copy and tweak one to generate the sitemap.
    2. Output the page as XML - set the http header and the section's page name to XML.
    3. Use a webmapurl filter to set the correct location of the XML - I think it needs to be http://mysite.com/sitemap.xml

  • IWeb and Google

    Dear iWebbers,
    I have published a new site made in iWeb on my personal domain. Now Google doesn't seem to find my site anymore. I would very much appreciate any tips or solutions.
    Thanks, Jeroen

    It looks like your website is called Site_2 in iWeb so the sitemap.xml should go inside the folder of that name and its URL will be...
    http://web.mac.com/joegramm/Site_2/sitemap.xml
    You would be better to name your site JoeGramm or Joe_Gramm or Joe.Gramm.
    Once you have submitted your sitemap to Google and had it verified, the spiders then crawl your text - they can't look at photos! You need to put your keywords like Joe Gramm, Upholstery etc in the text on your pages.
    As far as I know the masking stops Google but you'll find that out for sure if you try to them to verify using that URL.
    I use the application Google Sitemap Automator to create sitemaps.
    I just read your latest post while writing this.

  • My site botched by Google

    weird issue here...
    When I perform a google search on my site it returns the following result "the sixty crickets chris sahlquist." The problem is that "chris sahlquist" is being added from an unknown source. I haven't entered it on my site, nor do I have any meta tags that include it (if iWeb even uses meta tags) Bottom line is that I don't want "chris sahlquist" in the results, because I want my name to be anonymous (plus the last name is misspelled!)
    Yahoo! and Windows Live Search return results like "Dwell on the sixty crickets", "home" and a host of other titles related to the content on my site. All good.
    I've searched through my iWeb site files for the string "chris sahlquist" but nothing turns up. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is there an iWeb tweak I can make? Is Google hexing my site with dark magic? Have I been hacked??? and how is that possible?
    The site in question is www.sixtycrickets.com
    Again, I want to keep my name disassociated from this site (for entertainment purposes) but I'm at a loss for how to do it.
    Thanks!

    Thanks mwong. Turns out the page you referenced might be the culprit. The owner has removed the link text, so hopefully all will clear up once Google clears its cache.
    Given that the issue appears to be coming from a link outside my site, do you think I need to get Google to remove the cached page and get it re-indexed?
    C
    Interesting problem.
    Did your site at any point have 'chris sahlquist' in
    the text? If so, you will find google will re-index
    it eventually and the 'chris sahlquist' will
    disappear.
    If you sign up for Google sitemaps, you can get
    google to remove a cached page and then get it
    re-indexed.

    Lastly, does this link provide any clues - it is
    linking yours with the incorrect text:

  • Edited "Title Tag" after creating Sitemap...

    Hi
    I realized that the Title Tag in my Welcome.html file had not been edited so as to provide a more descriptive bookmark; so I edited and uploaded the new Welcome.html file.
    But earlier this evening, using Google's "Sitemapdoc.com", I created & verified the sitemap for this site; and 'pinged' Google as well.
    Will this newly edited & uploaded “Welcome.html” file cause any problems with the Google sitemap tools which should be attending to my site in the upcoming days? Or am I O.K.?
    Thanks!

    Though I haven't used sitemapdoc.com editing the page content shouldn't cause any problems with Google or it's sitemap tools. Until Google actually "reads" (spiders) your site it won't know anything about it, other than it's URL.
    If you want to play it safe you can always make other changes to the site if you need/want to and resubmit it to the sitemap generator.

  • How to get on Google???

    Is this link true that the only way to get on google searches is to buy a program called iMap???
    http://guimkie.com/iweb/get-on-google-with-iweb-08/

    Any website will come up in Google depending on what you type into the search box.
    Creating and uploading a sitemap allows the spiders to to crawl all the text in your site so that, when someone enters a combination of keywords that exist on your site, it will come up somewhere in the list of all the other sites that have these keywords.
