GoPro 60 fps

I have a GoPro camera.
How can I view footage shot at 60 fps as slow-mo?
I have Quicktime, Handbrake, Streamclip & iMovie 09 (will soon have iMovie 11); but not FCE.

Where in Quicktime is that A/V option? I'm really curious how to slow 60p footage down to 30p or 24p. I know that Cinema Tools is an option, but $999 for Final Cut Pro is way too much money for just wanting to slow clips down.
With all of the HDSLRs and POV cams shooting 720p at 60fps, it would be nice if this was built into iMovie or Quicktime Pro.
Any tips anyone???

  • GoPro 120 fps footage lags in premier pro help!

So I've filmed action sports mostly in 720p at 120 fps but when I import those files into premier pro it becomes extremely laggy (anything 60fps and under works fine), I have been forced use the go pro studio app  to import and convert the video files into a useable format, but in the process it drops the frame rate 60fps and in turn I cannot achieve the same level of slow mo I could with 120 fps. Please help I don't know what to do, but I inevitably want awesome clean slow mo footage!
    Regards,
    Elliott

Thanks, but is it possible to use it directly through premier without converting it through go pro?

  • Problem reading GoPro Hero Black 4 files (1080p 120 fps) on my iMac with Adobe Premiere Elements

    Hello,
I have a problem reading GoPro Hero Black 4 files (1080p 120 fps) on my iMac with Adobe Premiere Elements : the file is read but the quality is quite bad. When I watch it with other software like VLC or MPC, the quality is perfect but the video is sometimes slowed or there are some jumps in the reading.
What is the issue with this ?
    thakns for your help !
    Olivier.

This is easy. I do it all the time. FCPX ingests GoPro footage just fine. Optimize, and you're good to go.
BTW: A common hiccup occurs when dealing with over-cranked footage. (60fps or 120fps.) Be sure to "conform speed" to actuate the slo-mo. 'Tis also important to designate your project / timeline at 24fps or 30fps to realize the speed difference.
I've gotten burned in the past. I'll drag my over-cranked GoPro footage to the timeline. As it is the "first" clip layed into the timeline, the project assumes THAT speed as a default. (As per my preferences.) Thus, when I "conform speed," nothing seems to happen. That's because my project is displaying at the higher rate. A 60fps timeline showing footage shot at 60fps looks "normal speed."
FYI. (And disregard if you know all this.)

  • Is the new macbook air fast enough to play 100 fps gopro video fluidly?

    Hello,
I'm interested in the new macbook air 13. I often use a gopro hero 3 black edition, filming with 100 fps in 960p for slow motion. Is the new macbook air able to play these video fluidly by just pressing the space button in the finder menu. I know that it does play the video fluidly when opening quiktime. If it doesn't work with the space button, would a Intel Core i 7 help. Thanks for your help

After doing some research I found that when I play my video files they are capped at 24FPS on any PC or Mac.  Which has further confused me.
So if someone could educate me on if it is possible to have my macbook(been using vlc player) draw more frames out out of a video file or of some other artificial method to get the most out of this TV.
It could very well be possible that I will absolutely have to watch my movies using the physical disc and the appropriate blu-ray player to draw 240FPS but again, if someone could educate me on this I would be grateful.  I want to know for sure if it can or can't be done before making that purchase.
    Thanks!

  • GOPRO Hero 2 720 60 FPS, settings/presets and export settings.

I use a gopro hero 2 to make some short films.   I made this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwWU83oGGx0  video with DSLR 720 60 FPS preset, and let the program choose export. • 120 FPS 1080p GoPro Preview Premiere Pro vs GoProStudio, Why?

    Hey there,
i have some Trouble with my GOPro 1080p 120fps Footage.
I am strugeling with this for hours now.
    System Specs:
    Full HD Panel
    Intel Core i7-3537U 2 GHz
    AMD Radeon HD 8570M
    6144 MB  , PC3-12800, DDR3
    Samsung SSD PM841 256GB
I now that you need a bit of power to play back this footage.
WMP is playing it fluently ( CPU usage 40 to 50%)
When i add the clip to GoPro Studio the Preview is fluently in full quality. ( CPU Usage 70-80% )
But when i import the footage to premiere pro cc the preview is super laggy. Even when i set the preview quality to
1/4 and still image quality to 1/4 its still laggy. Not editable.
I tried to set the Render Engine to GPU. But still the same Problem.
Any Ideas or Tips on how i could fix this Problem?
    Thank You very much

No problem. When you click sequence > sequence settings, what does your editing mode say? I use AVCHD 1080p square pixel. You can change this to 'custom' which will give you more control over the settings if you need to, but if you use the method I described earlier then you shouldn't need to change anything. Maybe if some of your videos are 2.7k or 4k resolution mixed with 1080p videos then you could play with the settings.
Just remember that if you start a new project and have for example, four videos shot at 1080p and one at 4k, if you drag and drop the 4k video to the 'new item' bin then your sequence will match the 4k resolution settings and when you drag the other 1080p videos on the sequence time line, they will not fill the screen and would need to be 'scaled' in to fit the screen, thus making them look terrible. The best way would be to drag n drop the 1080p video(s) and then include the 4k video on the timeline and just 'scale' / 'crop' it to fit the screen.
    All the best!

    Hello,
What I did for CS4 , that does not have than function.
Create a new project, pick the  AVCHD 1080 30p present as a basis, and then go to the "general" tab and save it with a different name, like "GoPro R4 mode"
Then close Pr, open the preset you just saved with a text editor like notepad , and search and replace "1920" for "1280", and "1080" for "960"
    That´s it, it works.
    Gonza
edit: mmm Im not sure if its ok... when I open the preset it says 1280x960, all good. But then when I go to sequence > properties it says 1920x1080 ...

  • Final Cut Pro X doesn't seem to recognize 120 fps

I hust bought a GoPro Hero 2 with the capability of shooting 120fps. When I upload the clip into my timeline it says that it can't recognize the format and prompts to 60 fps. Any thoughts on how to get the full 120 fps? Thanks

    Here is the link.
    http://gopro.com/3d-cineform-studio-software-download/
But Tim Wolsky is correct. If you set your project at 29.97 before you start editing the project and then drag the clips in, they will conform to 29.97 and be able to slow down. I also like it in Final Cut becasue it is preset to ramp up and down into slow motion. Meaning, if you only want part of your clip in slomo, you select the Range tool, highlight that section and slow it down. Final Cut has an algarithm that does a slight ramp down to slow mo, so it isn't jarring. Very cool.
The gopro software will allow you to slow it down to the appropriate frame rate then export it as the longer, full slow motion clip. It's more exact than final cut, becasue it doesn't work in percentage, but you do lose flexibilty.
I shot some footage the day I got the camera and slowed it down in Final Cut. I will upload and post it to the thread, if you are curious on the end result. It's just grainy, becasue it was dark and indoors, but you will get an idea of the smoothness of the effect.
    Hope this helps.

  • Ntsc (60 fps) vs PAL (50 fps)?

    Hi all,
I have to choose between NTSC with 60 FPS or PAL with 50 fps on my new GoPro camera (black edition hero3+). What should I do? I live in the Netherlands, so intuitively would go for PAL. But that lowers the framerate possibilities. Higher framerate will enhance my plans to edit certain parts in slowmotion. So, is it possible to shoot with NTSC at 60 fps, edit this movie (in a 60 fps project), burn it to blu ray with loss of quality? Or should I choose for PAL 50 fps?
Thanks in advance for all for the help!
    Hugo

Your thought processes are almost correct. Shoot 60fps and edit 25fps.
The frames per second for your sequence have little to do with the frames per second of your footage when you are shooting with the intention of playing it back in slow motion.
Now that we are not using interlaced footage, and we are not trying to solve the problems of frame size differences between PAL and NTSC, there is little difference between me shooting at 60fps to put it on a 24fps timeline, and you putting it on a 25fps timeline. At least not for the slow motion footage.
The slow motion footage will show every frame when you interpret the footage to 25fps. No problem. It will look great.
The question is, what will the 60fps footage look like when put on a 25fps sequence at normal speed? Keep in mind the shutter speed is different when shooting 25 or 60.
And I say "little" difference. The math of 60 to 24 might be easier for the program than 60 to 25. I doubt it. After all, it is just a matter of dropping frames.
So that leaves the footage content itself. If it can survive the dropped frames, then great! If it is a little choppy, then it really wasn't suitable.
You have to decide that for yourself. My suggestion is to shoot some sample footage for practice before you do it for anything important. Get to know your camera and how 60fps looks on a 25fps timeline on a BD.

  • Project settings for GoPro Hero 3  Black Edition Protune 2.7k 24p

I am trying to figure out what setting to use to import Protune 2.7k 24p clips into Premiere CC 2014
I am trying to avoid using GoPro Studio and transcoding there, yet is this the only way to do this?
I can of course load in a GoPro .mp4 Protune file directly into Premiere but I have no idea which preset to use.
    Thanks

Use MpegStreamclip (free) to convert the files to Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC).
You must record in or convert the files to 30 fps mode as FCE only works in that frame rate.

  • Premiere Pro Color Correcting Help with GoPro Protune Footage

    Hey guys,
I'm working on a video I made of my daughter's birth. Most of the footage is from my DSLR and looks fine, but Im' having a helluva time getting my GoPro footage to look even remotely decent. I shot in ProTune thinking I could get more out of it in post (plus, I wanted the 24 fps option). It's a lot of indoor footage and I don't expect miracles but I'm trying to get the best I can out of it.
I start by using fast color corrector to white balance based off hte door trim. That works but it still looks really, really flat and dead. Tried using Contrast, RGB curves, etc. and I can't seem to get any sort of decent image out of it.
Any tips or ideas with where to start? I don't need it perfect, just want it as good as i can get it. Most of my indoor shots look like this for some reason :/
PS, I didn't transcode in Cineform at all. I just dumped the MP4 files right into Premiere Pro.

If you're on PrPro CC, I'd get Speedgrade also and take a run over to it for your correction work ... commonly known as grading. Yea, you can do it in PrPro, but as a noob ... never got the footage I worked "there" as far along as when working in Sg. Might help.
Next ... the scopes here are quite interesting ... first, set your lower-end of the footage to the point where you either go for good "broadcast" (blacks that you WANT black about 16 on a 0-255 scale), then lift the contrast/highs/whatever control until your whites just tip out on top. Next correct for gamma, the overall placement of the mids/upper mids, then start with your color work.
You will probably need to raise in-coming sat up a bit to start making best choices there ... but then I'm also a noob so I'm waiting for the corrections that shooter or Jim will chime in with ...

  • Premiere crashes when opening GoPro Studio cineform AVI files

First off, I'm a newb when it comes to video editing.  I just purchased Premiere Pro on a month to month basis to compile a bunch of vacation footage I took on my new GoPro.
I used GoPro Studio to edit the raw footage into hundreds of useable clips.  I took the videos in 1280x720 @ 120fps.  I used the default settings to trim the footage.
Any idea what I can do to get Premiere to open these files?
note:  I can open the original gopro footage without issue.

Yes I did try creating a new project using the software only option, to no avail.  The GoPro Studio was downloaded and installed only 2 days ago.
I could Convert all the clips again since the project is still saved.  These are my "Advanced" options when on Step 1 - View & Trim:
    Image Size (source)
    Frame Rate (source 119.88fps)
File Format (AVI, or MOV) - there is no MP4 option
Quality (low, med, high) - med is default and what I used previously
    Remove Fisheye (unchecked)
If I was going to transcode the clips using another codec, which software would you recommend?  I'd ideally like to keep the 120 fps because I plan to slow a lot of them down.

  • Gopro H.264

    Hello everybody,
I know this has been asked before but I can't seem to find a definiteve answer: I just upgraded from CS5.5 to CS6 today and the issue with gopro h.264 videos playing fine for a few seconds then starting to get choppy got much worse. I did fresh install for my machine before installing CS6(windows7, dual 3Ghz Xeon, HP xw8600 with a GTX470, 512GB Curcial M4 SSD media and cache drive...GPU acceleration working fine). All other high bitrate videos(including AVC photage from my hacked GH2 at 160Mpbs) play extremely smoothly...neither cineform converted(through the free studio software) nor native mp4 files from the gopro play proplerly for more than a 3-4 seconds on CS6, on CS5.5 I used to get choppy sections everynow and then but not this bad. What is the actual problem here? I can't transcode to anything else intermediate(I don't want to buy the full cineform studio) and DNxHD does not support 2.7K videos, so I had to convert to uncompressed YUV today to finish a project I'm working on....3.5GB for a 200MB file!
    I appreciate the help.

I'm sorry, but this answer is just wrong. This is akin to saying "my 2010 Audio TT can't go more than 30mph with 3 passengers in it - well 3 passengers is a lot, it'll just run slowly."
Sure, GoPro MPEG4's are more computationally complex than DV or ProRes codecs, but they're on par if not simpler than all the other AVCHD variants out there. Premiere's Mercury Engine is an exceptional piece of software that's built precisely for the purpose of smooth, responsive, fast playback of complex codecs. Good native playback of GoPro files is completely within the reach of Premiere, my platform, and most modren CPUs. Even Adobe admits (in Jim's link) that AVCHD is a "tricky format" with a "complex file structure". Also, notice that the playback issues are mostly in scrubbing and play command responsiveness, not the playback itself. And any other program, including ye olde 32-bit Quicktime Player can play those files at least twice as smoothly as Premiere on the same machine (I'm measuring scrubbing fps and play responsiveness).
So why is it so choppy and bad? I surmise that Mercury and GoPro's MP4's are simply not optimized for each other. Modern video files have vast, complex structures including headers, atoms, and metadata schemes, and virtually no one gets them perfectly right and coded to spec (look up "Avid's version" of OP1a MXF's).  There is probably something in the frame headers of the GoPro MP4's that chokes up Mercury. It may be either side's "fault", I just hope that it improves in future versions of GoPro firmware or Premiere.

  • 60 fps looks choppy, please advise!

    Hi all,
I just received my Gopro black 3+ and shot some footage at 1080P, 60fps. I editted this footage in a short movie with Premiere Pro in a 1080P 60fps project and the resulting raw AVI file on a bluray. The movie, however, looks choppy now. Especially the footage at normal speed. The slowmotion footage looks very good. What am I doing wrong? I made the same movie in a 1080P 30fps project using Premiere Elements and direct burned this one on a Bluray as well. Same problem: the movie looks choppy and the slowmo looks good.
What are my options? I could downgrade to 30 fps, but it would be a shame to not use the 60fps right? I want the best quality possible for watching on bluray disc.
    Thanks for the advice!
    Best,
    Hugo

Hi, thanks for the reply. Problem is that when I use the 60 fps footage in a Premiere Elements project and burn it directly to Bluray, the problem remains the same... what to do? Does 60fps footage downscaled to bluray (29,97 fps) always look fiddely and choppy? The video is far from smooth... What settings should I adopt then?

  • GoPro multicam edit.  WHAT IS GOING ON ???

I’ve been reading everything on this forum I can, and I hope someone can help.
Footage;              GoPro Hero III Black 1920X1080 (30p-fps) w/ Protune enabled.  Bitrate is 35000kbps.  MP4 format.
Each different clip is 15 seconds in length.

Timeline sequence matches 1 video source. 1920X1080
Each clip is scaled 45% and moved to a corner.
Timeline indicator is yellow.  MPE is enabled.
                                    32gb available, 25 is reserved for CS6.
PC Specs;             DIY Core i7 3930K running at 4Ghz.
                                    Antivirus is off
OS drive is Samsung 840/256. Read (465) write (312).
Video drives: 2-WD black, 1tb each running in raid 0 w/ onboard Marvell controller enabled.

                                    Quadro 4000GPU w/ 3.11 drivers.
                                    Asus P9X79 Deluxe MB.
Problem is that the video preview window stutters, hangs, jerks, and in general not smooth.  And this is at 1X playback speed.  Don't even try 2X or 4X.
It runs like a 386 machine playing HD video.  CS6 does not crash and the system is very stable.
So; what and where is my bottleneck?  Is it the H264?  Do I need a better RAID system w/ an onboard controller???
CPU usage is 10-15% usage while the timeline is choking.
GPU-Z indicates 1% load on the GPU, and memory is 758mb usage.
Who else out there is having these problems w/ GoPro footage?
On a side-note, if I render the video using Cineform, the playback is better, but not what I’d expect from this PC.
I am editing more and more GoPro multicam shoots and I have to find out what’s happening.
Need help, Harm where are you?
    Thanks everybody.
    Bob

    Bob,
Tested the files you had emailed me and concur with above, you need to transcode to a more edit-friendly codec, I can't even play the files smoothly. Adobe Media Encoder will batch render to format of choice.
Will email you for more discussion
