on my windows 8.1 RTM i have many GPO`s with the following result :
The same GPO is working OK on windows 8/Windows 7.
Also :
Any idea howto fix this?

I have just tried to install on Win 8 Pro 8.1 Fully patched and this is the error I have received.
Which is surprising since this is suppose to be a hotfix, but it was installed from Windows Update while I didn't even know about it......So does Microsoft start releasing hotfixes through Win Update/WSUS and automatically installing them without notifying

Meanwhile I have also tried installing Windows8.1-KB2919394-x64.msu on Win Server 2012 x64....

Not sure if anyone here will be able to help me with this. Trying to write a script which needs to lookup your group memberships at login.
I am using the id command in terminal (id -Gn) to show which groups I am a member of on the active directory my mac is connected to. The id command doesn't display all the groups I am a member of, it just cuts off after 3.5 lines. Anyone have any ideas? gpresult in windows shows everything and I have tested with other users here and they all get cut off at the same point.

But, try this:
nireport . /groups name users | grep `id -un` | awk '{print $1}'The interesting thing (for me) is that this shows I am a member of a group that doesn't show up with the plain id command, so maybe there's a bug here. -
"gpresult /r" command problem in windows 7
Hii guys,
I'm facing some problem when I type "gpresult /R" command in cmd. It returns various information but I'm intrested in last policy applied date. two days ago, I've applied group policy on a computer running Windows 7 OS.
After two days when I started computer again & run "gpresult /R" command in cmd it is showing last policy applied date as todays date. But in last two days I didn't connect the computer to any Network (wired or Wi-Fi). But still it is showing
policy update date as todays date. I changed the date & reboot the PC, then it is showing group policy update date as System date in both computer setting & user setting.....
Kindly help me guys to solve the issue......

WMI filter working for some Windows 7 machines but not for others
I'm trying to use this WMI filter for our Windows 7 64bit machines:

The reason there are three clauses is that we have machines in United States, Japan, and France. The first clause works for the United States, the second clause works for Japan, and the third clause SHOULD work for France, but doesn't.
I've run the query manually on the French machine using WMITest.exe (http://www.paessler.com/tools/wmitester) and it works. However, when I run a gpresult /r it shows that the GPO is denied
due to the WMI filter.

just a thought - is it due to localisation of the OS (fr-FR), and maybe the WMITest.exe is not honouring that?
maybe, on a French OS, open CMD, run wmic os get osarchitecture ??
get somebody to give you a screengrab of that - just in case there's something funky going on.
(I don't work with multiple languages, so am not sure if localisation can cause your issue, but from your Japan example it looks like it might do so)

Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS: RDS Users are unable to delete files from their desktop
Hello,
We are working with Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS. We also implemented User Profile Disks. This is all working fine without problems. The only issue I have is that normal users are unable to delete files from their desktop. They are getting a message:
you'll need administrator permission to delete this file, with the prompt for administrator access.
They can edit, copy, rename, cut and paste files. But they cannot delete a file from their desktop.
I checked the security permissions of the files on the desktop (for example a normal self-created PDF file) and the users are owner and have "Full Control" over the files.
I checked the file permissions and took a look under "Advanced", selecting the specific domain user and checked the "Advanced Permissions" and the user has the "Delete" option checked. So he should be able to delete the
file.
I am guessing this is UPD related issue, or something in GPO. But I already unlinked the GPO objects, that I felt could be the source of this problem, but without results.
Could someone give me a hint on where to look? It's kinda annoying to users, that they can't delete their own files.Hello Bria,
What you should check first, is the NTFS permissions on the User Profile Disk to begin with. See if the user has full control over the items that are in the UPD.
Also check the GPO's that are enabled for the user and computer account. You can check that by running: gpresult /h <path>\gpresult.html
There are two GPO settings that could prevent the user from deleting his/her own items:
User
Configuration\\Policies\\Administrative Templates\\Windows Components\\Windows Explorer\
Hide these specified drives in My Computer
Prevent access to specified drives in My
Computer
There might be other GPO settings, that block deleting items on the UPD, but can't think of any out of my head.
I can only think NTFS and GPO settings that might prevent the user from deleting items. In my case it was a GPO setting, that I didn't suspect. -
Group Policy Guru? Group Policy and Windows 7 erratic and inconsistant.
(*If you don't feel like reading everything, skip to the bottom two paragraphs for my questions)
I've had a premier call open with MS since August. This week I had a Microsoft Technician in-house. Though we eliminated some possibilities, we're not really closer to a cause or solution.
Every time we work with an expert, I get a different explanation to describe the situation we are viewing.
Quick summery of the issue: We've been using Group Policy to manage most Windows XP and 7 settings for years, but starting the middle of last year, we began having clients with machines where some or all group policies would fail to apply.
These could be long assigned policies, new polices, or changes to policies. It would never affect everyone or even a majority at once, and the resolution is never the same. Sometimes a GPUDPATE /FORCE sometimes fixed automajically the next day,
sometimes (but very rarely) longer.
Troubleshooting History:
What we found in early troubleshooting, that these machines, had errors in Event Viewer for Netlogon, Time-Sync, and Group Policy. The other issue we noticed, was that our GPRESULT /H reports were missing security groups and the denied section was
nothing but SSID's. The first issue pointed me to:
Event ID 5719 and event ID 1129 may be logged when a non-Microsoft DHCP Relay Agent is used
I installed these Hot Fixes. No change to any of the errors in event viewer, or to our Group Policy problems.
Initial work with Premier Support found that Netlogon, Time-Sync, and Group Policy, were failing before loading of the network stack. The suggestion was to apply the group policy setting "Always wait for the network at computer startup and
logon". At the time, this seemed not to work. The policy was set on a test bed of laptops and desktops, and no changes in behavior were seen after 3 days.
Windows 7 Clients intermittently fail to apply group policy at startup
For some time after this, we were collecting GPSVC and NetTrace logs for Premeir Support, trying to document and troubleshoot the problem. Eventually we got fed up and asked our TAM to call in a pro to get this resolved. We were sent an engineer
for 3 days. For three days we banged away on this issue. We verified AD and replication health, we tried numerous fixes and workarounds. I learned 3 different desriptions of how Group Policy works, and in the end we thought we had a workaround
using the "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" because of a single success late in the day. On day 3 we tried replicating this fix, and quickly realized that the same issue we were having preventing other GPOs to apply,
were also preventing our "fix" GPO from applying. So we went the route of using a registry entry. I also had a problem that even though it was making the process more consistant, it was still taking 3 reboots for a Computer Policy, assigned
to a computer object via Security Group, to fully take affect on a computer.
I used the registry methods in the above article. It didn't work, no sign it was having the same affect the GPO had had.
Our support engineer claimed this was the proper method, but that path wasn't even close in a Windows 7 SP1 registry, and after creating all the keys that were not present, it still didn't work.

We ran out of time, our engineer returned home.
I can understand how these errors indicate a problem applying Group Policy at boot. But to me it doesn't explain why it doesn't correct post boot, and after a GPUDPATE /FORCE and a reboot.
It also doesn't explain why we were working fine for years, then all of a sudden DHCP is being outrun by background services. (By the way logging showed DHCP wasn't significantly delayed, out boot process was actually excellent, health wise.)
Why all of a sudden is this not behaving optimly? No changes to network design or function. No changes to the domain since 2008 R2 was installed in 2011.
Today I'm reading through all these KB's and articles again, and took some time to read:

We ran though all of that before and during the 3-day onsite. It's not getting us any closer to the cause or a solution.
I found and begin some deep reading in this link today. It has some additional information I will try to use next week:

The one unanswered question I have is this. How is group policy supposed to apply to a computer, when that policy is applied to a AD Security Group, in which the computer object is a member?
Before we began having this problem, we would assign a computer GPO, then ask the user to reboot. If it were a user GPO, we'd ask the user to log off, or reboot. Either way, if we allowed a few minutes for AD and FRS replication, the user would
log back in with that new policy in affect. A new imaged machine would boot with all the GPO's linked to that domain and assigned to "Authenticated Users", already in affect. Admin groups would be present in administrators, proxy settings
would be set in Internet Explorer, etc.
Now I'm aked to beleive this was never the case from Premeier Support and Microsoft Engineers. That those policies require the equilent of a "GPUPDATE /FORCE" that was executed by the Local_System account. That 3 reboots may
be nessessary for a group policy to be applied. One for the AD Security Group to be applied. One for the Computer Policy to be applied. And a final one for the policy in the GPO to be applied to Windows.
Can someone confirm or correct this information please? It's imperitive to my troubleshootng.
There's no place like 127.0.0.1That key is empty on all of my machines I have checked today. Working and problematic alike.
GPRESULT logs, when ran as me, historically would show the group polices applied, denied, and the AD group membership all by name. About 6 months ago I noticed this changed.
Now they show the applied GPO's by name, a few of the denied GPO's by name, most by SID, and only 2 to 3 AD groups, though PowerShell shows all the AD groups assigned. This happens after several AD security and distribution groups are added to the
machine (Radia software distribution uses Dist groups to assign software).
A check showed no groups with long legacy Kerberos keys.
When we make a change to AD Security Group membership, to assign or deny a Group Policy, is usually when we encounter this problem. It will usually fix itself in 24 hours of the machine being left up and running. But no amount of GPUPDATE /FORCE
and rebooting will cause the changes to take affect.
During this time, the Group Policies will show assigned to the computer in the GPRESULT log.
Yesterday I began looking into Spanning Tree configuration on our network being a possible cause for the boot up issues. I'm waiting on responses from our Network group to confirm our configuration.

Windows Server 2008 R2 Windows 7 folder redirection not working
Hi,
I've got a Windows Server 2008 R2 environment and I'm trying to get folder redirection working on Windows 7 clients. I've configured the group policy on the DC and it's suppose to redirect the user desktop to a folder sitting on another server.
What I've discovered is that any files in that folder aren't being copied down and they aren't visible to the user. I can connect to the folder via its UNC path and when I run a gpresult the GPO is showing that it's applying.
Am I missing something? Shouldn't the files be copied down since I've redirected the desktop? Here are the settings I've used:
Share Permissions
Local Administrators: Owner
Domain Admins: Read/write
Everyone: Read
NTFS
Local Administrators: Full Control on This Folder, subfolders and files.
SYSTEM: Same as above.
Domain admin: Same as above.
Everyone: Traverse folder, execute file, list folder, read data, read attributes and read extended attributes to This Folder only.
GPO Settings:
Under User Configuration -> Policies -> Windows Settings -> Folder Redirection -> Desktop
Setting is Basic - Redirect everyone's folder to the same location.
Target folder location - Redirect to the following location
Root path: FQDN\Shared folder name
GPO is linked to the OU I want to test with and there is a user account in it.
Any tips would be appreciated.

Gpresult html report creation not working for computer settings
When I try and run a gpresult. all I get is this at the command prompt (as administrator).
gpresult /h c:\report.html
ERROR:
The error is particulary helpful ;-)
I can successfully create a xml file with /x report.xml . Its a pain to read though.
Also group policy results is also broken. I get the message:
An error occurred while generating report:
An unknown error occurred while the HTML report was being created.
I have read the fixes involving editing install.ins to remove the imported zones. This doesn't fix the issue.
It only occurs when I want the results from the computer settings. User settings work fine.
The environment is Windows 7 with Server 2008 R2 DCs. We have 3 2012 servers where gpresult works when processing computer settings.Hi,

gpresult/r, gpresult/v or gpresult/z
to see whether we can collect computer settings? Besides, we can go to Event Viewer to see whether some error events were logged and keep us posted.

I Have one AD Security group for each shared printer, I have one GPP that map the printer if the user is in the security group that belong to the printer. And one GPP to delete the printer if the user is NOT member of the security group. The security group
is also applied in “Security” tab on the printsrv with PRINT rights and “everyone” is removed. This works 100 % on Windows 7 clients and Windows 2003 Terminal Servers. But on Windows 2008 R2 RDS this dont work.The Delete Policy will not delete the shared
printer. No warning in any logs, and the gpresult shows that the gpo setting applyed sucessfully. The only way I can make the Delete policy work is if i give the user print rights on the printer on the printsrv. Looks like for the policy to work on 2008
R2 the user must have print rights on the printer object on the printserver. The GPP Delete Policy will not delete printers that have status : access denied. Anyone else had this problem?Hi,
Based on your description, it seems that we need to give users appropriate permissions, for the error
Access is denied is more or less related to permissions.
However, we can avoid deploying the GPP printer delete policy. As far as I know, we can use Item-Lvel Targeting of GPP to push the shared printers
to the targeted users or groups.

Windows Time Server setting not following group policy
I hardly use group policy, except for two settings:
User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\User Profiles\Exclude directories in roaming profile
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Windows Time Service\Configure Windows NTP Client & Enable Windows NTP Client
The first setting has worked perfectly for years, but the second one seems to have stopped working, in that the time on client PCs has become out by several minutes. The client PCs are running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

Does this happen to all clients in our environment? For group policy, we can run command
gpresult/h gpreport.html with administrative privileges to collect group policy result to have a check. Besides, we can check event logs in Event Viewer to see if some related events were logged.
Here, we can try to resync time with domain by following the steps described in the article below.

When running a gpupdate I get the following message:

This only happens on one computer under a certain account; other accounts work fine and the problem account works fine on other computers. Therefore the problem is located on the Windows 7 computer.
I have tracked it down to an LDAP error code 49.
I tried the MS sollution (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc727283(v=ws.10).aspx) but the credentials are sound.
I can also connect to the DC with LDP.exe fine.

It sound like port blocking issue, Seems your client system connecting 216.71.240.x DNS Servers as a logon server and which seems on different subnet
as per subnet mask, So there must be a router or firewall in between and so it might be Active directory ports are being blocked.
So first for testing purpose just remove other
216.71.240.x DNS
servers from TCP/IP configuration and clear dns cache
ipconfig/flushdns
and restart the system. check if it works.
or run this command on DC
dcdiag /test:dns
and share the error report.

We have deployed printers from the Print Manager MMC to our computers. However, two new Windows 8.1 computers don't get the printers. GPResult shows the policy has not applied after many logins. Is there some change for printers under 8.1?

Since the printer policy could not apply to Windows 8.1 machines, please let me know what is the OS version of the printer server? Please try to create a separate GPO using RSAT on Windows
8.1 machines and only apply to those Windows 8.1 machines to see if it works. Please configure the policy settings under the following path in GPMC: User configuration/Policies/Windows Settings/Deployed Printers.

Hi, I'm currently having issues with windows 7 backgrounds not displaying the wallpaper sent out through group policy but showing a solid colour instead. I've read that this was an issue what should have been fixed with a hotfix but I'm unable to apply it
as the one from Microsfot is saying that it isn't for my version of windows. The resolution and the file size are ok as they deploy to most other machines but I'm struggling to find a link between them as some machines display the wallpaper and some don't.
Any Suggestions?Run gpresult.exe and check whether the policy has been successfully applied to this PC

You mentioned that you tried one hotfix (KB 977944?)but it isn't for your version Of Windows, so what is the version of your Windows? here is a workaround for Windows 7 RTM

Windows 8.1 Group Policy based Wireless Profiles do not appear to be working
I'm wondering if anyone else out there has run into the same issue as I am seeing. The environment is all Server 2012(not R2), with Windows 8.1 clients.
I configure a GPO that is linked to the entire domain/authenticated users and contains a Windows Vista and Later wireless network profile. Let's call it "GPO_Wireless. It is configured to automatically connect it to a specific SSID, the
encryption settings are unimportant, as I've tried numerous approaches. In our case, we're trying to do EAP-TLS with the NPS role. We have the CA rolled out, NPS has a proper cert, and the clients are auto-enrolling for both Computer and User certs.
This is all verified as working. We've also tried straight password authentication.
I refresh group policy on a Windows 8.1 client and see that Computer Policy "GPO_Wireless" is being applied to the client. I restart the computer, but it does not connect to the wireless network.
I run "netsh wlan show profiles" and under "Group Policy Profiles(read only)" it is blank.
I run gpresult /r /scope computer again, and it shows "GPO_Wireless" is being applied.
The last note is that Windows 7 clients can connect to the wireless just fine.Hi,
For the client side, I would like to know if the windows 7 as you mentioned used the same Group Police like Windows 8.1.
Meanwhile, I suggest you try using script as a workaround.

Windows 8.1 Start Screen via GPO
Hello all,
Thanks for taking the time to read this. I realise there are other posts with similar issues to myself, however having read through these posts and applied fixes provided, I am still unable to get this to work. I am having an issue when trying
to apply the Start Screen Layout GPO.
I am attempting to configure this GPO on my Windows 8.1 test network at the moment, but having no joy with it.
I am using Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard, and Windows 8.1 Enterprise.
Having done gpresult /r on my test workstation I can confirm the GPO has applied, and also when I check in the registry, the value has been changed in line with the GPO.
The .xml file is located on a share, although I have also tried the with the .xml file locally on a single test machine and the start screen still does not change.
Some of the policy is applying, as when I link the policy, I cannot then customize the start screen on my pc which from what I understand is expected behaviour.
Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
