GPU has fallen off the bus.

I experienced a weird problem for which I don't know the reason. A few months ago I had this problem which if I have to describe it, this is how it happens:
While I'm surfing, coding or playing a game, X dies (freezes) and the monitor goes black losing connection with the GPU. I saw the GPU message in dmesg and after a few more times it happened, I opened my PC, disassembled everything to clean the dust. Afterwards everything went okay, back to normal. Today, I experienced the problem again while playing a game and logged in through ssh to get some logs. Here's what I got:
# dmesg

After a reboot, things are back to normal again, but I never found out the reason for this. I'm open to suggestions what might went wrong.
Current hardware: https://www.smirky.net/info/

You're not alone on this it seems, a quick search lead me to an older thread on nVidia forums where several users are complaining about it and links to other threads. Some say that changing minimal powermizer state from 0 to 1 solved it for them (see last post of the thread).
There is also this, and to be honest, it reminds me of random blackscreens I was getting on my 8600m GT and a 260GTX until the screen stayed black not even showing the BIOS screen (PC still booted fine though). In the end I solved it by "baking" my GPUs to re-solder the chip to the mainboard. Both continued to work fine since then. The 8600m GT runs on arch now as you can see from my signature, and no problems with it so far.
May I also add I find the error message sounds hilarious.
edit: found this.

    Hi All,
After a update of my laptop, it does not fully wakes after going into suspend. It does not react to numlock anymore.  I have to push the power button for 10 seconds to shut it down.

I did a quick google search. This page suggested that I set my videocard in persistend mode:
    http://scientificlinuxforum.org/index.p … topic=1469
    So i did the following:
    ]# /usr/bin/nvidia-smi -pm 1
Enabled persistence mode for GPU 0000:01:00.0.
    All done.
    # /usr/bin/nvidia-smi -q

This did not solve the issue. The laptop goes into suspend (the power LED starts blinking), but when the power button is then briefly pressed, the machine does power-up, but after hearing 2 clicks from the speaker, i get a black screen, a full-running CPU fan, and no reaction to numlock.

  • F12 key has fallen off. How do I reattach it?

My f12 key has fallen off. How do I reattach it? It seems like the hooks on the keyboard itself are slightly bent, but I'm not sure if thats the design. Is this normal, or something I need to go get replaced?
Here's a picture that shows the hooks if you zoom in.

Go to the iFixit.com web site.  See if they have instructions for your model MBP.

    cheers

    restart did the trick!
whilst im here, ive been trying to compile a script that i can use in salling clicker to switch the default screen to the HDTV so when i use front row it displays on the HDTV
now i thought this would have been quite simple but it turns out the display prefs pane is not scriptable??
with a bit more googling i found this app
    http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/28570/Site/TV_Row.html
now this does what i want it to do, but to launch app i still need to get up, go to imac and launch it manually (a great hardship i know ;-))
so now ive been trying to compile a script that launches this app from salling clicker but it has root privilages and for some reason i can launch say mail or safari from terminal but not this app(TV Row)
can anyone help me get thru this?
    thanks

You can only obtain warranty OR post warranty service in the country of original purchase
As your iPhone has user damage it has no warranty
IF the iPhone originated from Spain or another EU country you can get out of warranty service in any EU country

  • Bottom of ipod has fallen off

The bottom of ipod , where connector for charging is , has simply fallen off. Can you get this replaced? If so can it be done under warranty.
The system was bought in USA 10 months ago however I live in UK.
I still have the receipt of purchase.
    Thanks

This has happened to me a couple of times. Can you just snap it back in? That's all I had to do for mine.

The lock button on my phone has just come off, is there any other way I can lock my phone or will I have to repair the button (AGAIN!)?
This is the third time its fallen off due to general wear and tear and its beginning to get a little annoying, it would be great if the lock settings could be changed but I'm beginning to think this is unlikely

    Hi AmyLodge
    Welcome to the Community
Keyboard comes as one piece and you can't find buttons separately ,so you have to buy the whole keyboard. If you are unable to get it in ebay then try amazon.com, there I think you may get it.

  • How do I recover a window that has gone off the screen ?

The upper and right hand sides of my "Adobe Elements Organizer" application window have gone permanently  off my Imac screen and try as I might, I can't drag or minimize this window to centre it on my desktop as a much smaller size and thereby recover control of it.    The missing window top contains some commands I can't access and so does the missing right hand side of the application window.  Have tried junking app prefs, turning off Spaces, starting and restarting the computer.   Problem does not occur in other accounts using the same app - so something is screwed up with this app's window size defaults or settings or prefs in my user account only.
    anyone have any suggestions?
Deleting all the "com.adobe.elements organizer.plist" files does NOT cure my problem.   I suspect it has something to do with Mavericks' poorly tested 'multiple displays' feature  --  that likely has some bugs in it.   This app window seems to think it's on a much bigger monitor than my 21.5" Imac.'   short of removing and reinstalling the app itself or getting a windows machine, I can think of nothing else to do.

Not sure I follow what you mean:  When I open Mission Control, the entire troubled application window is then (hurrah !!!) visible on the Mission Control "Overview" screen - but when I c\olick in that app and I am returned to the normal operating screen, it's all cut off again.  It will not let me click and hold and then drag on its lower black border; I can only resize it in the direction that pushes it further off the screen.
This app's main window remains stubbornly frozen in position - up at, and extending right off of,  the top right of my screen and it does not respond to normal dragging - normal attempts to pull it down and see the lower right corner so I can resize the window by dragging its corner inward diagonally.
Can you describe what you want me to try in different words.  By invoking I assume you mean opening mission control.   That I am doing and that's the only way I can see the whole window looming quite normal.   But it won;t render for me that normal way on a normal operating screen.

Any "regular" glue should do, unless you need some extra-strength resistance to friction (some people like to drag their computer around their desk rather than pick it up). Make sure you put the small rubber gizmo in the right position (with the previously glued end up), or the glue on the apparent end will stick to any surface you put your machine on, and the foot will come unglued once more...

  • Since updating my system to Lion my HP MFP scanner has dropped off the map and I cannot print anymore. Any suggestions?

Since upgrading my operating system to Lion my HP mfp/scanner has become almost unusable.  I understand an update  is coming.  Any suggestions about what I can do with what I have until then?

As to what you can do until HP puts out an updated driver for your printer to use Lion, about your only recourse is to delete Lion and reinstall Snow Leopard or purchase a new printer for which a Lion compatible printer driver already exists.  As for your current printer, there is no such thing as a workaround when a compatible driver for a given OS is not available.
I am assuming in the above comments that you have already visited the HP Printer Suuport site and found that HP has NOT yet released a Lion compatible driver for your printer.  If you have not done this yet, please proceed to do so and that should solve your problem.
    Hope this helps

  • Is there a way in which you can deliver messages only through iMessages and not text messages .  If the other iphone user has switched off the data services then the message gets delivered when the user switches on the data services.

I want messages to be delivered to the other person only through iMessages . Is there a way to disable text messages being sent to the other iphone .

In message settings, disable the send as SMS setting. That does mean any message sent to a non-iMessage enabled device will just not get sent.

  • My macbook pro has fallen and making noise

A day before yesterday, my MacBook pro has fallen into the ground.  Now it become noisy.  Any advice on how to solve this problem is appreciated.

Since you have no Apple store to help you we'll have to see if we can solve your problem remotely.
What is your ex at model, size and year?
What is the noise like? Is it a fluttering,  buzzing noise or a squealing noise? Is it constant or occasional? Do you have access to small screwdrivers or know someone who has some?
    > my MacBook pro has fallen into the ground<
So clearly something inside has gotten displaced or damaged. So depending on the model, the bottom of the case will have to come off. Then you'll have to run the MBP to determine which component is making the noise. Someone who knows what they are doing will have to be the one to do this, otherwise damage to the MBP can occur. If there is no one, just be careful and don't touch anything.

Did this happen after you upgraded to Yosemite?
    >customers outside USA.<
I would think that it would be difficult for any company to provide world wide service to products they make. As an example I tried to help a friend living in Uruguay. I sent him camera parts from the US three times and each time the shipment never made it to him.
