Graphic animation question

I want to have a graphic move across a video clip but be moving before the cut. Does anyone know how to do this?. I'm a bit stumped as the default action of the transform function starts with the object stationary. There is probably a very basic solution to this problem but I can't for the life of me think of it.

If I understand what you want to do, then one approach would be to insert a short(few franes) gap clip between the background clip and the one preceeding it. Then add your graphic clip as a connected clip to the background and hold command+edit keys then click on the graphic at the bottom of the clip to move the connection towards the end of the graphic. You can then slide the graphic over the gap clip so it starts to play before the background appears. With some adjustment you can slide the graphic to align with the end of the previous clip and never see any gap. Then animate the graphic with keyframes. Another thought would be to simply use the video editor opacity for the background and fade in the background a few frames after the graphic begins. You can have a very fast fade from 0 to 100% using the editor. Hope this gives you some ideas.

  • What is the best Mac choice for creating pro-level art/graphics/animation?

    I'm an artist who does a lot of work with Adobe Creative Suite CS5, as well as some video editing and lots of animation. I've been using a 2007 model 15-inch Macbook Pro for the last 4 years, and it seems like it's time to upgrade...it runs burning hot all the time, and the battery dies pretty quick when the cord falls out. It seems like the whole thing is running a little slow, which is probably because I have a TON of graphics/animation/video software on there, but I need each and every program.
    My question is, what is the best new Mac to purchase to replace this one? I want to make sure it lasts as long as possible, and will be able to handle the programs I use now. My first thought is to get another Macbook Pro, because of the portability, and just add on all the higher RAM, etc to customize it. But my husband suggested looking into the Mac Mini, because it's a lot cheaper, and we're a little strapped for cash at the moment. Would that serve the purpose? Or is a Macbook Pro really the best choice for what I need it to do?
    I'd love to hear suggestions from other artists or graphics people. What do you recommend?

    For a "cash strapped" person, unless you already
    have a monitor, one of the new iMacs may be
    a better choice.  If you do have a monitor, I would
    suggest the dual core i7 equipt MacMini.  Since you state
    you are using CS5 stuff, most Adobe apps,
    Photoshop for example, do not make effective
    use of multiple cores.  Also, using any of the
    Adobe products, regardless of which computer
    you decide on, get as much RAM as you can afford.

  • Speaker problem with t420i and adding a new graphics card question

    I bought a t420i about a month ago and noticed that the speakers could not properly handle muliple sounds at once.  What happens is that, say in a music video, the music plays loud and clear, but once the lyrics start the background music fades a bit to about 85% of it's original volume.  I had returned the laptop because of this problem but the replacement I got has the SAME exact problem.
    In case im not clear, try this example.  You know the beeping noise you get when you press an incompatible set of keys?  ( like g, h, and b).  When I have this noise going simultaneously with a song, the song's sound fades a bit.
    This does not happen with headphones, therefore i believe the problem is with the way the speakers are programmed.
    Also, if I bought a t420 with just integrated graphics, could I still add a new graphics card?  Or can you only add a new graphics card to a thinkpad that initially comes with discrete graphics?

    I think the main purpose of the nvs4200m is the ability to use three displays (internal + 2 external). Additionally, nVidia has better driver support for games so even though it is around the same speed, the drivers are better.
    The shared ram is still used, unless you disable the HD3000 in the BIOS and run with only the nvs4200m at all times.

  • K430 Graphic Card question -

    Hello Community,
    I purchased the new Ideacentre K430 i7 3770. My unit has a HD Radeon 7750 Graphic card. My probloem and question is:
    the graphic card has only a HDMI and a VGA ports. I desperately need Dual Link DVI. Of couse I thought that it would have DVI because I believed that all new Graphic cards had DVI or Displayport. I was shocked when I got it home and ther was only HDMI and an old VGA port.
    I have the RZ30W high end "30 monitor  from HP and it only has Dual link DVI and Displayport. Any tips, I can't seem to find an adaptor from HDMI to Dual Link DVI? I have tried 2 and both were single link and did not work.
    Can I have Lenovo trade out the Graphic card for the same one but with the ports I need???
    Oddly, I am unable to find the HD Radeon 7750 with my port configuration--- they always seem top come with the ports I need. That is why I bought it !!!!!
    Help !!!
    Thanks for any response in advance.

    Hey There, what it seems like to me, is you need to download your video drivers from the website. Just go to the Support & Drivers page, put in your product, and download/install the video driver. And That should take care of your issue.

  • Best way (folio/bounding) to display a printed portfolio? (Graphic Design question)

    Hi all,
    Apologies if this isnt posted in the correct forum (but I wasnt able to find any mainstream graphic design forums, I know there is ultrashock but that's more flash based, if anyone could point me to some would be great.)
    Any how my question is what is the best portfolio type (paper/binded folder/display sheets) to display printed graphic design work in to potential clients or employers etc?
    I had been using protective sheets, but then a client of mine showed me what someone else had done for them and it was displayed in a huge thick A3 bound portfolio (you couldnt see or tell how each peice of paper was bound to the edge). I'm thinking that's what I really need and really professional type looking folio presented like that, but I don't know of what you would call that type of folio/bounding etc.
    Any help would be great

    I prefer to do wire-o because you can change the pages out as your portfolio changes. I also like to have vellum slip sheets in-between because it looks more professional as well has assure that the prints do not stick together. I prefer to go with printed plastic transparent covers with an emboss as well as foil stampings with double hit blacks consisted of gloss UV coatings in patterns of textiles, but that gets costly.
    Other then that, I think you will have more success creating an on line portfolio. Most people don't have the time to look at hard copies, but it's good to have a back up hard copy for face to face situations.

  • Graphic Card Question - Do I Have the Wrong One?

    I just got my new Pavilion dv7 less then 2 weeks ago. It was just today though that as I was checking around to see how well my laptop could play some games, I find that what I think is the wrong graphic card in my laptop. On the box it says I should have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470, but when I type dxdiag into Run, it says I have an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator. I'm new to all this, so does my laptop have the wrong graphic card?
    Because according to all this and the System Requirements Lab website, my new laptop is unable to play some games my old laptop could, which had an ATI HD 3200. I'm assuming the HD 5470 should run better, yet it's the one thing keeping me from running many games. Any help at all would be appreciated.

  • Reports 9i and Graphics Wizard questions - Upgrade from 6i

    Hello,
    I am trying to convert my 6i reports to 9i and I have a lot of questions. First, it is my understanding that if we want the reports in the 9i format I will have to recreate all of my graphs. Is this right? Second, when I run the graphics wizard with a report that has multiple queries, it is not retreiving from the query selected in the wizard. Also, with the new graphics wizard can you reuse graphs? I currently have 5 reports that point to the same 2 ogd files. Will I now have to go in and build the same graph 6 times? Finally, if you could point me to some good documentation, I would appreciate it. I have around 30 reports with graphs on them, so if anyone has any suggestions that will make this easier, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Laura
    [email protected]

    Laura,
    First, You can run the 6i reports with OGD in reports 9i, provided you have your Oracle 6i home is in system path
    and the regsitry variable ORACLE_GRAPHICS6I_HOME is set to pint your 6i oracle home
    Now, if you wan to open these 6i report with OGD and modify the report in 9i builder, then the OGDs are loast when saving this reports from 9i
    buikder, so you would need to recreate the graphs using the graph wizard
    Thanks

  • Mac pro graphics card question

    Hello, I am ordering an apple Mac Pro tomorrow and I need a question cleared up.
    If I get the 4x ATI radion 2600 HD (4 graphics cards) If I hook up one monitor will 1 graphics card take up 1 forth of the screen or is this meant for people with like 4 screens?
    Thank you

    One graphics card can run two monitors. Four graphics cards could run 8 monitors. Four graphics cards will not run one monitor any faster than one graphics cards. Unless you plan on running three or more monitors, even a second graphics card will be money wasted.

  • Animation question: when adding new layers...

    Using CS5. Let's say I have 9 layers in my Photoshop document, and I've successfully created an animation by making some layers visible in some frames and not others. (When making the animation, I'm using the frame view, not the timeline view.) Now let's say that for some reason, I need to add a new layer, perhaps to make the animation look better or to add some missing text. When I add the new layer (call it layer #10), this new layer becomes visible on every single one of the animation frames, and I have to go back to every single frame and remove the new layer #10 from showing. Question: is there a way to avoid this? My goal is to be able to add a new layer without it showing up on every single animation frame I've already finished.

    In the animation flyout menu, uncheck New Layers Visible in All Frames.

  • PLEASE HELP!  Text animation question.

    Hi,
    This might be a dumb question, but it's really stumping me.  I want to animate a title using some of the text animation presets, but I can't seem to apply an animation that makes the text appear AND an animation that makes the text disappear.  I can do one or the other, but not both.
    For example, I want my title's text to appear with "FocusIn", and I want it to disappear with "DropOutByCharacter."  How do I do this?!  I've searched everywhere and wasted an entire day trying to figure this out!
    Thanks.
    - epompa03

    Along with Steve's tip on doing two Titles (probably the easiest way to handle this), would be to use Keyframed Effects to create your animation. Since Drop Out By Character, is the harder one to do by hand, I'd just add a Blur to the Title, and Keyframe it to start out heavily Blurred (maybe even with a lowered Opacity, also Keyframed) and then Keyframe the Blur out, where you wish to have the Title sharp. Then, add the Drop Out By Character.
    The beauty of Keyframing the various Effects is that you can control many at one time on a single Clip. However, the concept is not the easiest to initially grasp. Once you do, you'll likely use Keyframes in lieu of most packaged animation Effects.
    Steve has a good series of articles on Keyframing on the Muvipix site. Do not recall if they are in the "free" section, or not. Since there is a ton of great material, articles, tutorials and also Assets, like Motion Footage and Menus there, a subscription often pays for itself in one day of downloading.
    Good luck,

  • Animation Question

    Hello. I am try to make a simple animated pac-man. The problem is that i want it to change his position: Thread.sleep(250). And in the same time to move the mouth Thread.sleep(1000). To make it easier i just wanna make a pacm man that changes position and moves his mouth with diferent pauses.
    Now below is the script. Is written a little mixed up but if u compile it you will see that pacman changes position but doesnt move his mouth depending on which method you put first on the run method:
    PacMan() is for the mouth.
    move() is for the movement
    if you put it like that:
    public void run() {
    while(true) {
    pacman();
    move();
    It will just move the mouth.
    else if you put it like
    public void run() {
    while(true) {
    move();
    PacMan();
    It will just move.
    Below is the code . Thanx
    PS. The mouth is mad with a fillArc() that changes the two last arguments.
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class Circle extends JFrame {
         CirclePanel circlep = new CirclePanel();
         public Circle(){

         if (x > getSize().width+200)
         x = -200;
         repaint();
         pause(20);
    public void pause(int secs) {
         try{
         Thread.sleep(secs);
         } catch (Exception e){}
         public void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
    int y = (getSize().height-200)/2;
         Graphics2D screen = (Graphics2D)g;
         screen.setColor(Color.black);
         screen.fillRect(0,0,getSize().width,getSize().height);
         GradientPaint paint = new GradientPaint(0,0,Color.yellow, 200,200,Color.white,true);
         screen.setPaint(paint);
         screen.fillOval(x,y,200,200);
         GradientPaint paint1 = new GradientPaint(0,0,Color.white, 200,200,Color.red,false);
         screen.setPaint(paint1);
         screen.fillArc(x,y,201,201,k1,k2);
         GradientPaint paint2 = new GradientPaint(0,0,Color.blue,10,10,Color.white,true);
         screen.setPaint(paint2);
         screen.fillOval(x+100,50,30,30);
    }

    That should be exactly what you expected. Your run method is executed with a single thread, meaning it is sequencially exectuted line by line. Therefore when one method is call, it continues to execute until the return, then the next method is called. Here, you have a while loop inside each method that is always true, so the method is never returned from to call the next.
    public void run() {
        while(true) {
            PacMan();
            move(); //never executed since PacMan() never returns
    public void PacMan() {
        while(true){ //always true, so method can never return
            k1 = 2;
            k2 = 2;
            x +=50;
            repaint();
            pause(1000);
            k1= -35;
            k2 = 70;
            repaint();
            pause(1000);
    public void move() {
        while(true) { //same here
            x += 5;
            if (x > getSize().width+200)
            x = -200;
            repaint();
            pause(20);
    }Now what you have been waiting for, the solution. Run each animation is a different thread. Try this little test app to see what I mean.
    import java.util.*;
    public class ThreadTest {
        int k1;
        int k2;
        int x =0;
        public ThreadTest(){
            Thread pm = new Thread() {
                public void run() {
                    PacMan();
            Thread m = new Thread() {
                public void run() {
                    move();
            m.start();
            pm.start();
        public void PacMan() {
        for(int i = 0; i < 5; i++) {
                k1 = 2;
                k2 = 2;
                x +=50;
                System.out.println("PacMan: x = " + x);
                pause(1000);
                k1= -35;
                k2 = 70;
                System.out.println("PacMan: x = " + x);
                pause(1000);
        public void move() {
            for(int i = 0; i < 5; i++) {
                System.out.println("move: x = " + x);
                pause(250);
        public void pause(int secs) {
            try{
                Thread.sleep(secs);
            catch (Exception e){
                e.printStackTrace();

  • Graphic animation and texture technique

    Hello Adobe,
    I'm wanting mock this graphic within after effects and wondering how I can get this same animation and texture effect from solids or shape layers? Watch video below (5s).
    WIN Television - PRG [2014] - YouTube
    Thank you.

    If you mean the graphic then layer your shapes with gradients for fills then add the other elements. Basic illustrating skills are all that is required. Then you just animate the shapes one layer at a time until you get the look you want.
    These are the most basic skills. There's nothing automatic that you can just push a button or click the checkbox to duplicate this animated graphic.

  • Best way to take Flash graphics/animations on web sites to HTML5 to play on all devices?

    I have a number of web sites that have different elements I created in Flash. Galleries, menus, animations, etc. I need to make them playable on smart phones...including iPhones, and iPads/tablets. I don't want to go the "publish it as an app" route. Such as PhoneGap.  Are there other ways to do it? Or is this the work flow that everyone is going to?
    Thanks

    This is a very abstract question. Flash CS6 and CC support CreateJS which can convert some types of simple projects to HTML5+JS for you. Download a trial and see how it works for you. Outside this the answer will be on a site to site basis. If the entire site is Flash, you should be rewriting the HTML5 yourself where you don't need Flash, such as basic images, text, backgrounds, etc. But again, the complexity of the project greatly determines how much work you'll need to do. There is no Staples Easy Button on this subject.
