Graphics become illegible when published

Hi,
I've published a lot of graphics on my websites, and most come through fine -- both illustrations and photos. However, one illustration which displays perfectly on iWeb, but comes up looking badly out of focus on the published website. So too, on any of my illustrations, text comes out fuzzier in the published version than in the iWeb version. This is especially bad if I use a colored font rather than black font -- more bleed, I suppose you'd say.
Grizman

Grizman,
Hi there. Yes I have had this happen. I am not sure of the solution or if there is one.
But you are stating a phenomena that does occur. Apparently iweb renders non safe (web standard) fonts or fonts w/ effects such as shadow....as images. So the quality is different. Looks great in iweb b/c of the fact that it is still text but as it is published it is rendered as a graphic. This is so that other browsers can see the non-standard font.
I suppose you have checked out all this so......I'm not much help except to confirm your findings.
Do you have nonstandard font or one w/ effects? Or is the font too close to an image?
If all is well and you just have standard........you could possibly try a technique called textedit passthru.

  • Transparent background layer become black when publishing on iWeb

    Dears,
I used Photoshop CS to create a pic without background. As usual I made my selection, copied it, paste it on a new file. Then a deleted the background layer (tried with or without merging/flattting the pic) and saved it in .jpg but also in .pgn
When dropping the picture in iWeb 2.0.2, everything looks great. The picture does not have a background.
But when published on .mac, the background becomes black.
I tried almost everything when formatting the pic, although the backgr remains black.
Just before I made the same with a wind turbine pic and it worked perfectly.
    See on: http://web.mac.com/daniel.daplincourt/daniel.daplincourt/Vide.html
    Can anyone help me plsss?
    Thank you!
    Daniel

I have the same problem with the black backroung on my photo. I saved it over has a png but it still has the black background when I publish it to .mac. I would match it to the background color of iweb but I have a textured background. Is there a step that I am missing when I save it out to a PNG. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Images become unproportional when publishing

Please see below. This image was much wider in muse and when published in became unproportional.
And this is a button, on  some pages it displays well and on others it loses its styling.

    but i don't want this.
Place it pixel exact! Resampling means the image is placed at sub-pixel values. Aside from that you would also get softness if the image is not properly converted to the target color space and automatic conversion creates mix colors whose individual components blend differently with neighboring pixels, which in part is simply an artifact of on-screen simulation. In any case, you will only be able to get a proper barcode in CMYK/ Duotone/ Multichannel modes, where you can make sure it appears on the spot black ink separation so it does not get halftoned and loses its sharpness again. ideally it would even be native vector data...

  • Why does the file Name for file attached with Annotations "Attach File" (paperclip) become Unknown when Comments are Published?

Our company recently purchased Adobe Acrobat Pro XI for the purpose of using it for shared electronic reviews.  We are using Send for Shared Review created in Adobe Acrobat Pro XI, and all the Comment tools work as expectedexcept the paperclip in Annotations.
When a Word or Excel or Image(png, jpeg) file is attached using the Annotations paperclip, the initiator can initially see and open it. But after Publish Comments is selected and the review file is closed, the file "Name" changes to "Unknown" (although the Description has the correct file name and extension).  The Modified information is Unknown, as is the Size and Compressed Size.
When the review file is then re-opened, even the initiator cannot open the file, although:
The file location is marked with the paperclip within the document.
The file name is shown in the Comments List with the initiator's name.
In the Attachments list (the paperclip beneath the Thumbnails and Bookmarks) the Name appears as Unknown, Description shows the file name, Modified is Unknown, Size is Unknown, and Compressed Size is Unknown.
The file Name cannot be edited, although the file Description can be.
We have followed the procedure described in the tutorials but cannot figure out how to troubleshoot this situation.  Since this feature was the reason for the purchase of Adobe Acrobat Pro IX, we would any help. Please don't leave out any basics since we are all new users.
We have several people with Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and the rest have Adobe Reader XI and it is a Windows platform.  Can someone please give us some advice how to get this feature to work as described?

    FYI Rave,
There are some other forum entries with this exact same issue...:

  • Image margin properties in topic not retained when publishing to Word

I have image text wrap margins working fine in my robohelp 9 project. When I publish to Word 2010 (docx) the margin becomes set to "0". The Word template image default is set to "square" text wrap with right, left margin set to .13" (what i want).  What can i do to retain text wrap margin when publishing to Word?

I have looked around RoboHelp 9 and Word 2010 and also gone back to RoboHelp 7 and Word 2003. I have tried mapping to Word and using the project CSS.
The results are always the same, no margin as you have found. Also I cannot find a way of setting default margins in either version of Word.
For a definitive answer on whether there is a Word solution, I would be heading off to http://windowssecrets.com/forums/
Failing that one option might be to amend the image so that it has a border the same colour as the background of your pages. That would give the appearance of a margin. It does of course mean if you ever change the background colour you will have a bit of image reworking so not ideal.
You should also submit a bug report. Please follow this link.

  • Poor image quality when publishing to .mac

    This is very frustrating.
I buy a high resolution, high quality, royalty-free image. I resize it and crop it in my image editing program and save it as a maximum size .jpg.
I preview the image in Apple preview, and also drag the image into my web browser and it looks crisp and sharp.
I put the image on my iWeb page and publish to .mac. I check my site and the image looks horrible! It looks as though it got compressed again on the lowest setting.
Something very weird is happening to some people. I've read other discussion on this but they are all unresolved.
I'm a graphic designer and I've used dreamweaver and published to other servers. I know about image quality and optimization. I'm doing the same steps and procedures I've always done to optimize images and I've never had this problem except when I publish to .mac.
There is a very weird and serious issue going on and I hope someone can resolve this or has an answer.
Why would an image look crisp and sharp when I view it in my image editing program or in Apple preview, but when publish to .mac it gets re-compressed?
This may sound silly but do you think Apple is doing this randomly and automatically to users to save server space on .mac? Maybe they think people wont notice or care?
I am very upset and frustrated and I can't think of any other reason why this is happening.
    Any advice is helpful. Thanks!

    James,
Thank you very much for your help.
Here is what I did. I used Apple grab and took a screen shot of my iWeb page where the low res graphic was in position.
I used this as a "template" for cropping my original image in my image editing program to the exact size I needed.
I cropped my original image to the size of my "grab" template, deleted the template layer and saved the sharp image as a maximum file size .jpg and placed it into my iWeb page, with "use original size". It fit perfectly in my layout and looked sharp and crisp.
Now, I published my site and checked the image.
You were correct! The image came out crisp and sharp, no more quality loss.
To test your theory, I went back to iWeb and placed an iWeb mask around the same image and re-published it.
Sure enough! The same image that was once sharp had terrible image loss.
So I guess you're right, adding any effects to an image creates the image loss.
Well, this is a terrible shame because I really like some of the border effects. For example, in a photo gallery, you can use an effect such as a slight page curl with drop shadow that appears only for the thumbnail image but the when you click on the image full size, there is no page curl, just the pure image.
If I create this slight page curl effect and drop shadow in my image editing program, then both my thumbnail and full size image will have this effect.
Not only that, but in order to get the thumbnail image to lay over my background color, I would have to re-create the page curl effect and place it on a border of the same background color as my page layout. When someone clicks on my thumbnail they will now get the full size image with the page curl effect and a slight border of the page color.
Also creating this effect in my image editing program will make it more time consuming when I want to change layout styles, because when I create the page curl / drop shadow in my image editing program, I have to change the background color around each image to match the new background color I'm using for my page. Doing this for 20 images every time I want to change my design is allot of work.
If this is what I have to do, then I have no choice. But at least I would like my thumbnail to have the effect but NOT my full size image.
How do I do this so only my iWeb thumbnail image has this effect without iWeb forcing it to a PNG and loosing quality?
    Thanks I appreciate you help!

  • Java Error When Publishing

So I have an applicational prototype that I need to have out by the end of the day today, and all of a sudden Flash Catalyst states that the project cannot be published due to an error. It also said to check the Code view to see what's wrong. Yesterday it did say that the error was a "Java Heap Space" error, but today there is absolutely nothing in the problems listing even though it still outputs that there's an error when publishing the project.
The prototype builds and runs in the browser just fine, but it's publishing that becomes the problem. I am not a Flex developer by any means, but as a user experience designer, I understand how to edit some of the coding, so if anyone could shed some light on this, I will do my best to fix the problem with any solutions that will work.
    I appreciate the help guys!
    -- Rick

    To the original poster, Rick:
If you're seeing a "Java Heap Space" error message, this is a (not very user-friendly) way of the program telling you it's running out of memory.  Catalyst tries to detect and warn you when your project is getting too large, but it's not always perfect.
Did you see any warnings about the size of the images you've imported into your project?  Very large images can certianly be one source of problems.
Here are a few tips for dealing with large images:
Resize them to be smaller using a another app like Photoshop, before you import into Catalyst.  Shoot for a file size of 100-300 KB at the most, for very large "gallery"-style photos.  Other images should be < 100 KB (remember, people viewing your site will have to download all this).
In Catalyst, when you're done shrinking down an image to the right size, choose Optimize Artwork > Rasterize in the heads-up display to "lock in" the smaller size.
In Catalyst, choose Optimize Artwork > Convert to Linked Image for any especially large photos.  This can speed up the initial load time of your site, and it will also help avoid memory problems when publishing.
    Hope that helps!

  • Font is different when published

I published my site. I didn't like the bold look of some of the fonts so I changed the font and made a couple of other changes. The site then looked the way I wanted before re-publishing publishing.
I then re-published but the fonts are still look bold when I log on to the site. How can I correct this?

Some of those tips really helped - especially turning the text into a graphic - but how do you do it on blog summaries/Album names or on navigation titles? (put the 5% shadow on?). I love iweb but was very dissapointed with the fonts turning to bold versions. I have been a grpahic designer for years and am glad I could do web stuff because of iweb - so a small thing like it looking BOLD when published bummed me out! Anyone know how to edit/add shadow to the aforementioned elements? Thanks in advance....

  • Captivate 8 crashes when publish "near CD quality" audio

When publishing a project using "Near CD quality" in the size/quality settings, Captivate 8 crashes midway through the publishing process.  I can split the project in 2 parts and it will publish successfully.  I am running Captivate as an administrator.  My system:  Intel Core i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz, 8 GB DDRS RAM, GeForce GT755M, Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250GB (125GB available)

  • FrameMaker 11 omits embedded pictures when publishing to epub 3

I am trying to publish a book containing multiple embedded pictures to epub 3, but for some reason the FrameMaker 11 omits the pictures when running the publish script. The pictures also disappear when publishing to html help, but not when merely publishing to pdf. What may be wrong?
I am running TC4 on win64 with everything updated

What's the graphics file format of the imported image files?
What conversion have you specified for the output, assuming that ePub workflow is similar to XML and HTML, where image destruction is controlled by:
File > Utilities > HTML Setup
    [ Options \... ]
    File Format for Images:
    (_) GIF  (_) JPEG  (_) PNG
    {any new choices in FM11?}
And since FM converts image formats for some workflows, those files have to reside somewhere, so access and permission problems could arise.

  • Fonts don't look the same when published...

why is it when i publish my site to a folder the fonts on some pages do not appear the same as they show in iweb...
    i have 8 pages...
home page looks fine just as in iweb...
the remaining pages have a bolder font and doesn't look nice...
i have checked and double checked every page and all fonts are the same...
    helvetica size 15...
    why is this happening...?
    what can i do...?

In iWeb click on +Help > iWeb Help+. In the pane that opens you'll see a search bar in the upper right corner. Copy & paste the following into it:
If text or a shape gets converted to a graphic
...and hit Enter. That same phrase should appear in the resulting list of +Help Topics+. Double-click it.
Follow the steps outlined under +"To identify items that will be converted to graphics when published:"+
...Do yellow badges appear on the text you're having problems with? If so, your text is being converted to graphics — to view the fonts least likely to be converted, click the Fonts button in the lower-right corner. In the Font panel under Collections, click Web.
On the other hand, if yellow badges don't appear then this may apply:

  • Why do none of the links that I put in my outgoing yahoo emails no longer underline themselves and become live when I finish typing them and hit the space bar?

Previously, when I typed my email address in an outgoing email or cut and pasted a link from my browser bar the link would become 'live' when I hit the space bar or 'enter' key. The link would turn blue and underline itself and the person receiving the email could just click on that live link and be taken to the site. Now the link does not turn blue or underline itself and the receiver must cut and paste the link into their browser bar to use it.
Why? I did not change anything in Yahoo or Mozilla.
I have deleted and reinstalled Java to no effect. I am using html in Yahoo.

As it turns out, many others have been having similar issues on other browsers. It seems that maybe Yahoo! is taking a much longer time to load or something like that. Either way, its been working on and off all week, and the same issue even showed up yesterday with IE 8 instead of FF. It still loads faster than IE 8, but again is spotty. Some people think the issue may be with mail.yimg.com or s.yimg.com, which I could see was the loading url in the left corner whenever Yahoo! Mail was refusing to work. A couple of people said blocking it caused the issue. Alternatively, some people suggested blocking it to solve the problem. Does anyone have any information on that? Again, I have no add-ons that would be blocking any urls, and my firewall hasn't any records of it. I really don't want to do anything to mess up my browsers more than they may have already been. Thanks for all of your help so far!

  • Kerberos double hop works internally, but not when published via TMG

    Hi all,
Have 2 x IIS 8.5 servers internally with .net applications on them
The IIS servers have been configured to use a domain account for their apppool... and credentials are pass successfully from the front end server to the back end server.
When publishing the front-end server via TMG, the front-end web pages show up fine, but the delegated credentials aren't passed to the "back end" pages and a 401 - unauthorised error is presented.
The TMG computer account has the front end and back end http SPN's defined for delegation in its AD account properties.
Is this expected ? is this a limitation of TMG ? or have I simply done something incorrect ?

  • Works in preview but not when published in captivate 8?

My youtube widget used in captivate 8 works just fine in the preview, but when published there's nothing where the video should be, any idea as to why?

    Hi Robert,
as far as I understand your post, you are missing some kind of "button-artwork" in the published file, but do not report a problem with the "action" that the script should perform.
My guess would be that it will be hard to help you without having a better understanding what your trying to achive and how (are you using a prebuilt component, or did you build the button fron scratch etc....)
It might be even necessary to have a look at the fla itself.
