Gray stripe across screen

I have an Ipad 3.  I bought this 2-3years ago and this was working great until yesterday.  All of the sudden, I noticed a flickering gray/white strip across the screen.  It did not go away despite turning off the Ipad and restarting and resetting.
Is this a hardware issue and shoudl I take this to my local Apple store or is there something else I can try.
Thanks.

Sounds like a hardware issue which can not be corrected by anything other than a trip to the store for a replacement.

• Black spot and white stripe across screen

Okay well it's my brothers ipod, and I have no idea what the heck he did to it. But he left it on his dresser and woke up with the black spot and white stripe across the screen. After reading one of the posts, is it possibily moisture or water? But I have no idea how the black blotch thingy got there. Any ideas on what it is? And how I can fix it?

• MacBook Pro only boots in safe mode with pink vertical stripes across screen.

So on Friday night I was using Chrome on my MacBook Pro, when all of a sudden little squares of light flashed randomly across the whole screen and everything but the mouse froze. I thought that was weird, so after a few minutes I forced my computer to shutdown. I waited a little and then turned it back on, and opened Chrome again. The same thing happened again, so I forced shut down, backed up Time Machine and ran a virus scan. Nothing came up, so I put it to sleep and and went to bed.  Then Saturday morning I went to open my laptop and it was off, which was weird, so I went to turn it on. After the apple logo and spinning gear went away, it booted to a light blue screen and stayed there. Again I waited and nothing happened, so I held the power button down until it turned off. I tried again but the same thing happened, so I booted in Safe Mode.
This time there were inch long vertical bars of horizontal lines, kind of confusing but here are two pictures I took of the screen that hopefully help. http://imgur.com/oj2WbZL and http://imgur.com/O1hwJ1B . When it finally loaded I had another issue, I had 6 pink vertical bars across the screen and a box of pink horizontal stripes around my pointer, http://imgur.com/BJBzu74 . I performed an extended Apple Hardware Test and after 17 minutes it found no issues, and as it performed the test the lines got whiter and made the screen harder to see http://imgur.com/XahBD3s .
I got my laptop June 2011, so it's not that old. I just want to know what this problem could be. I don't know if it's the connection from the screen to the computer, the hard drive, the logic board or something else. I'm really worried that it's something major, so any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

This is a GPU problem. It's normal that you see that the problem is random, but the fact that your Mac is only starting up in safe mode indicates that your Mac can only start up if the VGA driver is used. Moreover, if you open Console, you should start seeing "GPU Debug Info Start", which indicates a GPU failure.
As you have a backup, take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller. In the case of the MacBook Pro, the GPU is soldered onto the logic board, so the whole logic board has to be replaced, being a very expensive repair.

• Vertical Blue Stripes across Screen

I'm not sure what triggered it, but vertical blue stripes will pop up and freeze my screen. It started last night and have happened a couple of times already. I can only 'unfreeze' it by rebooting the Mac.
http://img231.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0185nu0.jpg
Does anyone know what the problem is?
Thanks

I haven't read anything about the ABC website causing problems. Watching videos may be more processor intensive and the machine may run a bit hotter, which might be enough to trigger a video problem that could have been there all along, but just hadn't manifested itself yet.
If you also get the blue stripes on an external display, that would indicate a problem with the graphics chip. If the video on the external display is fine, then the blue stripes could be a problem with your internal display rather than the chip.
If you get the stripes again, it might be a good time to run the extended version of the Apple Hardware Test, which is on Install Disc #1 of the gray discs that originally came with your computer. The AHT will test a lot of stuff, and if you get an error code, it will indicate a specific hardware problem. You can try Googling the error code and maybe find out what it is, but Apple is the keeper of error codes and would have to be the one to give you a definitive answer.
I can appreciate that you need to work on your paper and won't be able to mess with this right away. If your video goes away entirely, here is an article which might help you get it back again:
Troubleshooting: My computer displays no video
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1573?viewlocale=en_US
This article will walk you through some resets which might help.
Also, sometimes problems are worse if the computer gets hot. If that seems to be the case, something like a chill mat might help until you have time for some serious troubleshooting. So would quitting any unnecessary applications while you are working on your paper.
Good luck!

• Restart request and green and gray stripes on screen, impossible to run

Hi.
My MacBook does not start correctly. I immediately get the "you need to restart your computer message on a screen that is covered by green and grey stripes vertically. One issue I had recently is that I got close to the limit of the harddrive (1 GB space left).
Thanks

1 GB is not enough free space--you are in danger of a crash and losing everything. Here is a link for doing that:

It sounds like you are experiencing a kernel panic. Here is an article that might be helpful:

Do you have a good up to date backup? If not, you need to make one before it is too late.

You don't, take it to Apple for repair.

• My ipad1 had a gray are across the middle of the screen. How do I get an estimate of how much it will cost to repair it. If I can't where can I send this so it will be recycled responsibly?

I have an iPad 1. I have a gray bar across the middle of the iPad. I have heard this  is a common problem among the first generation iPads. How to I get an estimate on how much it will cost to get fixed, and if that is not possible, where to send this (and my broken iPods) so they can be recycled responsibly?

If you head over to ifixit.com, you can check out their replacement guides for each of the items you feel needs replacing. The cost for the parts is listed there. It would be that cost + labor at an Apple store. I'm not sure if they would replace things that are cracked as that is cosmetic damage and doesn't affect how well (or poorly) the computer works. You would have to bring it to a store and ask.

• I have 4 vertical stripes across the entire height of my monitor. Do I have to buy a new imac? e

I have 4 vertical stripes across the entire height of my monitor, the stripes are there even before I log on. My 17" imac is 6 years old. Do I have to buy a new computer?

Frequent problem on 2006 17" imac!
Most of the time, it's a defective LCD panel.
To validate if it is the LCD panel or the graphic card, you can take a screen shot (cmd+Shift+3) and see if the problem is visible on the screen shot.
If it is not visible, then it's most likely the LCD panel.
This can be confirmed by connecting an external display to your iMac.
If it works well, then it's the LCD panel that is defective.
Does it look like this?

• Why do I have a gray strip in the middle of my iPad?

Why do I have a gray strip down the middle of my iPad?

New iPad?  Some of them have screen issues.  I just returned one that had a gray strip down the left side.  Actually, I had two like that.  It was difficult for me to find a new iPad without screen issues.  I actually never did.  I gave up at new iPad #6.  It's probably best to just bring it to an Apple store (if possible) to have it looked at.  They might just swap it for you.

• White infomation strips across the top

White infomation strips across the top of the screen . . . I edited my clips in Final Cut . . . Made a Quick Time Movie and imported into iMovie to set the chapter markers for sharing with iDVD . . . Now when I play the clip the program inserts this white line at the top telling me where every Trasition, Cut . . . etc was made in FC and I can't find where to turn this line off so I can go to iDVD . . . Help!!!!!

Quit iMovie.
Locate a file named com.apple.iMovie.plist and get rid of it. iMovie will create a new one the next time it runs. Empty the trash.
The files are located here:
-->/Users/YourName**/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie.plist
Then do the same for Quicktime:
Quit QuickTime.
Locate a file named com.apple.quicktime.plist and get rid of it. QuickTime will create a new one the next time it runs. Empty the trash
The files are located here:
-->/Users/YourName**/Library/Preferences/com.apple.QuickTime.plist
Once that is done, (and this is most important) run a permissions repair from the Disk Utility folder. The re-boot.

• A505-S6005 lines across screen?

Hey all, got a problem I was hoping you could help me diagnose. My toshiba laptop one day developed a single gray line across the bottom of the screen. So I did some searching and people said that the contacts for the LCD monitor can sometimes wear out or whatever and create a line, but usually it's best just to leave it alone because chances are it won't get worse. And then another line appeared...and then another. Now, almost a month later, the whole bottom inch of my screen is populated by about a hundred white lines, some flickering occasionally. I looked into buying a new LCD screen, I know the type and the part number and I'm confident I can do the repair myself. However, I want to be absolutely sure that it is the screen itself that is bad, and nothing else. Here are the things I've tried to attempt to diagnose it: 1. Tried moving the monitor back and forth (for possible loose monitor cable) and that has no effect on the inhabitants of line city. 2. Took a screenshot and pasted it into paint to see if the lines appeared (to determine hardware vs software) and the lines do not appear in the screenshot. 3. Hooked up my laptop to an external monitor - once again, the lines do not appear on an external monitor. 4. Tried (perhaps stupidly) to gently twist the screen back and forth (I guess it has something to do with the screen contacts?) and it made no difference. So...nothing seems to make it worse or better, and I suppose since they don't show up on an external monitor we can rule out a software problem. So could it possibly be something else or is it most definitely the screen going bad? -Thanks for reading

Hi! Seems to me that you have done well trouble shooting your problem. If the lines don't show up on a external monitor, what else could it be?? Can you attach  screen shots?

• IMAC 2" wide white vertical stripe middle screen, what to do?

my older iMAC has 2" wide white vertical stripe middle screen, it started out as single red line, what to do?

I don't know if this will "fix" your problem but:
As old as your iMac is, have you cleaned out the dust? Dust buildup can lead to over heating issues. Remove any and all things plugged into it including the power cord, Remove the RAM access grille. Vacuum all openings starting with the RAM access area (air intake). Vacuum all ports and plugs, DVD slot and the opening across the top of the rear of the body. Blow compressed air through all your openings and vacuum again to remove any dust you loosend. Reinstall the RAM grille. Plug in the keyboard and mouse if not blue tooth. Insert power cord...
