Growing a WLAN beyond a class C network (WLC2504, AP2700), AP groups?

We're about to grow our network by expanding to a new office a few floor up putting us at a size no longer fit for a class C network (> 255 devices). For obvious reasons I don't want to increase the network's size beyond that either.
The equipment used is a 1 x WLC 2504 and 15 x AP2700. It's set up to run the APs in local mode for now and in terms of wireless traffic that should still work fine.
Since the offices are about 100 meters apart and require users to travel even further to get to from one to the other roaming between them is not really important and associating to an AP in the wrong office is unlikely given the distance. There is a fiber connection between the two offices.
What I do need is for users to be able to authenticate with the same credentials and for the same SSID to be used in both locations. I'm thinking this is best solved by giving each office it's own IP-range and AP Groups but maybe there are other alternatives?
Also I haven't managed to successfully get AP Groups to work. I have created a new interface on the controller with a different VLAN, DHCP server, etc. Then I added a WLAN to an AP Group but changed the interface to the newly created (different from the one set up in the WLAN). However when I associate to an AP in that AP group I still end up on the same VLAN as on the APs in the default-group.
Is changing of VLAN mapping only available for FlexConnect APs?
There is also a prerequisite in the documentation (linked below) that "the required access control list (ACL) must be defined on the router that serves the VLAN or subnet"? I haven't really understood what type of ACL this would be? The network as such is set up in an ASA firewall and has internet access, dhcp and so forth set.
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/7-6/configuration-guide/b_cg76/b_cg76_chapter_01011100.html
I believe one solution would be to just create two WLANs with different profile name and VLAN but otherwise similar and assign them to different AP groups? This would also assume I stop using the default AP group and keep APs in two other AP groups since all WLANs exist in the default group.
Any help or guidance is appreciated.

  • How to setup a Class B network with WRT54GX ver. 2

    Hi all,
I bought a WRT54GX ver. 2 router. I wanna know how to setup the IP address say 128.1.50.136 with subnet mask 255.255.0.0 (Class B network)? By the way, 128.1.0.0 is my network zone.
If the router can't change, what should I do? Any other router support Class B network?
    Thanks!

    bcow wrote:
I did but it doesn't work. It seems don't have 255.255.0.0 to select.
would you state more clear of how to do it? Thanks!
It does not have that because it does not support it... the router runs on CLASS C only because it was designed and made for SOHO only... bussiness lines of Linksys or Cisco can do that....but not this router...

  • Two Cisco Routers in one class-c network

    Hello,
i have two cisco routers, which are connected to one switch. On this switch, there are several servers connected as well.
When i connected the second cisco router, i got messages on the first router, that there is an ip address conflict. After a few minutes it seems as if the vpn tunnel on the first router breaks down because of this conflict. I'm not sure about this, but when i disconnected the second router again, the vpn tunnel could be established again. The vpn tunnel goes to another router via WAN and ends in the local class-c network, where both routers are in.
    Router1
    LAN 192.168.105.254 (255.255.255.0)
    WAN 212.xxx.xxx.xxx

    Router2
    int fa 0/1
    ip address 192.168.105.253 255.255.255.0
Could the /24 mask on the interfaces cause the conflicts?
From the servers, none has the ip 192.168.105.253 or 192.168.105.254 and if i disconnect Router2, the IP 192.168.105.253 is not reachable from any system on the switch.
So how does this ip address conflict occur?

    hello,
can you check the router 1 log. with error message you should have a mac address
    May 10 05:32:20.489: %IP-4-DUPADDR: Duplicate address 10.10.10.1 on GigabitEthernet0/1.1, sourced by 0003.oc12.a2c3
This should help you to identify host already with 192.168.105.253.
Before connecting Router 2, from Router 1 ping 192.168.105.253 and do a sh arp ?

  • Apple Product connection to Internet via a Wifi Router on a Class B Network

Hi, I am trying to connect my Apple devices to the Internet on a Class B network via a WiFi Router. My devices did connect via the same Wifi Router when it was on an A Class Network (which has changed to B Class), so don't suspect router.
Is there a configuration change required on the Router or Apple device to make it work on the B-Net?
    Any advice appreciated.

    Hey MattnDonna!
You may want to make sure your wireless network conforms to the following settings:

  • How to passing Coordinate mappers class through network

    Hi,
i have to pass the sensor1 coordinate mapper class through network. How i can pass the  coordiante mapper for getting exact joint mapping.
    Thanks in advance
    kirubha

You cannot, the coordinate mapper requires the camera intrinsic data at the time the frame is captured. You can send the depthcamera table and other camera intrinsic and come up with the calculations. But the simpler options would be to pass the already
    mapped frame data.

    Thanks

as @dekac99 says, which collection did you target the deployment to?
    Step 4 of

You should be able to replace adapters in an IPMP group one-by-one without affecting the cluster operation.
BUT: You must make sure that the status of the new adapter in the IPMP group gets back to normal, before you start replacing the next adapter.
Solaris Cluster only reacts to IPMP group failures, not to failures of individual NICs.
Note, that IPMP is only used for the public network. Cluster interconnects are not configured using IPMP. Nevertheless the same technique can be applied to replace adapters in the cluster interconnect. You need to use the clintr command (IIRC) to replace individual NICs. Again, make sure that all the NICs of the interconnect are healthy before you continue replacing the next adapater.

  • Applet accidentally requests Java Core API classes from network

    Hi,
starting an applet from a customers client machine (IE7, Windows XP, Standard JRE Installation of Java 1.6.0_26), I see in the tomcat access log entries signalizing that core java api classes are accidentally requested from the server:
    "GET /mywebapp/applet/java/lang/StringBuilder.class HTTP/1.1" 404 1156 0
    "GET /mywebapp/applet/javax/swing/JPanel.class HTTP/1.1" 404 1141 0
    "GET /mywebapp/applet/java/net/JarURLConnection.class HTTP/1.1" 404 1162 0
    "GET /mywebapp/applet/java/util/jar/JarEntry.class HTTP/1.1" 404 1153 0
    "GET /mywebapp/applet/java/util/jar/JarFile.class HTTP/1.1" 404 1150 0
Although tomcat responses with HTTP 404, the applet works fine.
    Questions:
    1. For me, it looks like a security risk when the browser tries to load system classes from the network instead of using the local files from the jre dir, doesn't it?
    2. When starting the applet from my local machine (different network), no tomcat logfile entries are generated. An interesting fact is, that in the customer network, the applet "codebase" parameter in the HTML source gets modifed by a proxy server for whatever reason like the following:
    <applet codebase="http://mydomain.org/mywebapp/applet">
    becomes some kind of:
    <applet codebase="http://mydomain.org/mywebapp/applet/+sgrkjkrlgjklJKLjekrr4jewlkfjkerlkrelkjgregkjerlkgljkeglkjgjelkLKJLKefjei55435ijjkl=+">
It seems that such codebases confuse the classloader. Any ideas about that?
Thank you so much for any hints!

    <applet codebase="http://mydomain.org/mywebapp/applet">
So you're loading individual .class files from the codebase? Don't do that, put them into a JAR and specify the JAR file(s) as the codebase. Much more efficient and it may solve this problem too.

    any help ?

Add me to the list. . .and it happened right after the upgrade to 4.2.1. . .
Coincidence or just just a factor of wear and tear. I've tried 3 calls to Apple and they say the phone needs to be replaced.
A bunch of youTube videos watched and instructions followed to no avail.
It seems that the wireless portion of the circuit board connection is prone to cracking in the iPhone. I'm finding references to this gremlin dating all the way back to 2008. I'm wondering if there is a connection with high swings in temperature of surroundings. One clue to whether cracking exists on Circuit board connections is to pop your phone into a freezer for about 10 minutes and see if this permanently or temporarily allows the phone to be able to connect. . .
The only successful fix I've seen is reflowing the Circuit board by putting it in the oven but that takes a couple of shots of good vodka before seriously trying that. . .There are plenty of Google links on both the preparation and the fix. . .8^]

He showed me his iPhone, the place where it said WLAN said Wi-Fi, he said that might have been the problem and he told me to reset my phone... and it was just the same. Could the region be an issue? My dad got an iPhone 5 last year and within a few days he had the same issue. He got a new one with warranty. Please help!
    Thanks

WLAN is just another name for WiFi.
Try using Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

  • WLAN in combination with company network.

    Afternoon,
I work for a company where everyone works on a domain with an old server (NT4), DHCP enabled, so everyone on the domain gets an IP assigned.
Since there is no network connection in the meeting room, the management team wanted a wireless network so they could still access their PPTs and other files without having to resort to using USB-sticks. So they bought a Wireless Router WRT54GS for me to install.
Here comes the problem, how do I get this router to work?
I installed the router, the wireless PCMCIA cards and the laptop finds a wireless network thats guaranteed mine called "Nephesus", when I try to connect the setup gives me a screen in which I have to fill in a passphrase. I wonder why cuz I haven't been in the setup of my router at all.
Anyway, another problem is that the domain hands out IP adresses depending on the location, it always starts with 10.?.?.?, then 35-40 depending on location (10.37.?.?), so the config page of the router won't be at 192.168.1.1 as far as I know.
I would like some assistance with this problem since I don't really know much about wireless networking at all. A step-by-step guide with some advice would really help me out.
    Thanks in advance

Ok, follow-up ont this matter, I would still value some feedback...
I used one network jack from our own network and plugged it in the Internet jack of the router, wired my own computer physically to the router and have a laptop with a Notebook Adapter.
I used WEP since the other security methods just didn't work (didn't use MAC filter yet, which I want to use eventually, but why the rest doesnt work?). Anyway, my routers IP address is 192.168.1.1 (which is normal), my wired comp 192.168.1.100 and my laptop 192.168.1.101. I want to change the IP address of the router to something static which fits in the network, so I changed it to 10.131.37.5 (a free IP address in the domain), I saved settings and the utility says release and renew DHCP. When I try to connect to that IP after, I get a time out.
Something else that bothers me, I can't use the windows wireless connection screen for managing settings for my conn, I always have to use the tool from Linksys, which annoys me a lot.
What I want to get to eventually is just that the router extends the already existing network with a wireless section which also uses the same rules as the existing network. In which I can also access the servers and can use outlook (this will solve itself prolly as soon as the router is part of the network).
    So, hoping for some feedback...
    Thanks

  • Netboot across subnets on a Class B network?

    Hey guys,
I'm new to this so please bear with me. We've just had a load of shiny new Imac's come in and a Mac Server as well.
The main issue I have is that I can only seem to pull down the images I have produced on the same sub net the Mac Server is installed onto (e.g. 11.2..). Anything outside of this sub net doesn't seem to pick up when i go into the start up disk option or hold N for a net boot.
Can anyone please point me into the right direction. Is it a problem with the Xserve or is it to do with VLAN on the switches and is there a quick way to solve this. I'm knackered from carrying 20 mac's to one block where the server is and then carrying them back again.
    HEEELLLPPP!

    Hi
I tried this a fortnight ago and it did not work if the clients were not in the same sub-net as the NetBoot Server. I also tried mike bombich's NetRestore and that did not work either. Leastways it refused to work in my situation. You may have more success with it?
Apple do have a brief tech article relating to this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107655
The two solutions outlined were not practical for the situation I was in but may be something you could explore. The other solution could probably end up being more expensive unless you already have Apple's Server Software Support Contract.

  • What is the best way to have access from two separate computers on a network to a large group of data files and be able to modify the dat from each system?

Have three systems: MacBook Air, iMac 27, running current software and an older iMac 24 running earlier version of OS-X.  All connected using Airport through a Linksys router.  Have a large number of folders (2800 equal to 1.5 TB) and need to be able to update from both MB Air and the 27 as well as have some sort of at least weekly backup.  What is the best approach to accomplishing this? This is a small home network used to store audio books for the blind.

I would recommend a proper NAS.. Synology or QNAP are top brands.
OR, getting another lightweight computer as a server. eg newest Mac Mini or second hand one with large storage, USB3 or thunderbolt.
Apple routers could be pressed into service but are not designed for this task.. they will be slow, and without ability to backup.

  • Class-map type inspect match access-group name question

I'm creating a zone base firewall solution and all appears to be fine until I create a class-map type inspect match-all or any
and match access-group name acl to match an extended ACL and once I match it the commands runs but when I go back to view the configuration of the class-map it is not there.
I have tried other named ACLs and it works if the ACL contents are simple like permit ip any any but for complex ACLs with ranges, tcp, udp, icmp etc etc it does not take it but  it does not report an issue either and when I view the config its not there for the complex extended acl but for the simple extended acl it does show.
Any restrictions or possible bugs I'm running into?
    Thanks for all looking

This could be a bug.  Could you post the exact configuration you are trying to implement?  I just set up a small test and I have been unable to reproduce what you are seeing.  I would like to see if I get the same result using your config.
