GTK3 theme looks horrible, unable to change.

I can't seem to get GTK3 to display the correct theme, despite it seeming to have been changed and the theme being compatible. Here is my ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini:
[Settings]
gtk-theme-name=Adwaita-X-light
gtk-icon-theme-name=Faenza
gtk-font-name=Roboto Condensed, Condensed 9
gtk-cursor-theme-name=Adwaita
gtk-cursor-theme-size=0
gtk-toolbar-style=GTK_TOOLBAR_ICONS
gtk-toolbar-icon-size=GTK_ICON_SIZE_SMALL_TOOLBAR
gtk-button-images=0
gtk-menu-images=0
gtk-enable-event-sounds=1
gtk-enable-input-feedback-sounds=1
gtk-xft-antialias=1
gtk-xft-hinting=1
gtk-xft-hintstyle=hintfull
gtk-xft-rgba=rgb
gtk-color-scheme=bg_active_color:#666669\nfg_color:#ffffffffffff\nbg_color:#3b3b3b3b3e3e\nscroll_slider:#3b3b3b\n
However only GTK2 apps look like they should:
Is there something I need to install to make them look right?

make sure the theme supports gtk 3.12. Those kind of display errors have been quite common with gtk3 updates, if the theme hasn't been updated for the latest version.

  • GTK3 themes looking ugly

    Does anyone know why some themes in gnome3, actually the window theme (titlebar), look ugly like they came back from '95? I've installed Unico gtk3 engine, gtk-engine-murrine, gtk-engines as required by the themes but it doesn't fix the problem. Do I miss a package?

    Actually it worked only with one theme: http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&secti … 3#/d34mspx
    The file you have to edit is in /usr/share/themes/Boomerang/metacity-1/metacity-theme-1.xml
    See the comments in the Deviant page.
    @alexcriss
    No I'm not using cairo. I rebuilded the unico engine and followed your tip but it didn't work. I had this problem with fedora16 too. Anyway I think it's too much of a hussle just for a couple of themes since there are a lot of themes to choose from.

  • Changing theme (look & feel) in ICAN505 Enterprise designer

    Hello
    I'm running different Enterprise designers against different repositories and I would like the GUI to appear in different "styles", to make it easier for me to recognise what ED/repository I'm running against.
    I have identified the possibility to provide the alloy.theme parameter on the command line in runed.bat but I don't seam to get the hang of it.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Best regards

    It's very easy. Navigate to edesigner\jdk\jre\lib\ext. Copy alloy.jar, the jar file for the alloy look and feel into this folder. Also, add a jar file containing a text file alloy.properties. This properties file would look like the following:
    alloy.theme=bedouin
    alloy.isLookAndFeelFrameDecoration=true
    change the alloy.theme property for your various environments.
    And add a file called swing.properties under edesigner\jdk\jre\lib folder. the sample swing.properties would look like:
    swing.installedlafs = motif,windows,metal,mac,alloy
    swing.installedlaf.motif.name = CDE/Motif
    swing.installedlaf.motif.class = com.sun.java.swing.plaf.motif.MotifLookAndFeel
    swing.installedlaf.windows.name = Windows
    swing.installedlaf.windows.class = com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsLookAndFeel
    swing.installedlaf.metal.name = Metal
    swing.installedlaf.metal.class = javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel
    swing.installedlaf.mac.name = Mac
    swing.installedlaf.mac.class = com.sun.java.swing.plaf.mac.MacLookAndFeel
    swing.installedlaf.alloy.name = Alloy
    swing.installedlaf.alloy.class = com.incors.plaf.alloy.AlloyLookAndFeel
    swing.defaultlaf=com.incors.plaf.alloy.AlloyLookAndFeel
    Start eDesigner to see the change....
    Have fun....

  • [solved] Skype GTK3 theme with Gnome and Adwaita theme

    Hello,
    Is it possible to have Skype using the Adwaita GTK3 theme on a 64Bit system?
    I only get the following error:
    Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
    (skype:8290): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "adwaita",
    Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
    Regards
    Last edited by orschiro (2012-12-02 10:02:16)

    I resolved the issue.
    1. Install Adwaita-X theme from AUR together with lib32-gtk2. You do not need to install lib32-gtk-engines.
    2. Create ~/.gtkrc-2.0 with gtk-theme-name = "Adwaita-X" in it.
    3. Add export GTK2_RC_FILES="/etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:$HOME/.gtkrc-2.0" to your ~/.xinitrc.
    Skype should now use the Adwaita-X gtk2 port on a 64bit system. You do not need to change or set anything in qtconfig.
    If you then launch skype you may still receive the following messages:
    Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
    (skype:8290): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "adwaita",
    The first one just says that you need to install lib32-libcanberra-pulse from multilib repo.
    As for the second warning I do not know how to get rid of that since I cannot reproduce why skype still looks for the adwaita theme although Adwaita-X was specified in the gtkrc file.
    Regards

  • Unable to change font color from white

    In any new or previously saved Pages documents, I am unable to view the font. I know the text is there, because when highlighted, the text shows as white, but I am unable to change it to any other color. This has never been a problem before. Ideas? Would this have something to do with not updating to iWork'09?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    If you're not running the latest versions & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. They must be in the iWork '08 or iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '08 or iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '08 or '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.

  • Gtk3 Theme Troubleshooting

    I am running XFCE for my DE/WM and have had some mismatched apps since updating to GNOME3 versions. I have been using the NOX Gtk2 theme, which unfortunately, has no matching Gtk3 theme. Yesterday I switched to the Atolm-gtk3 theme provided in this AUR package, which is a beautiful dark theme that includes a matching theme for Gtk2. Unfortunately, this theme has not been updated since the spring and therefore needed a little love to get working with Gtk 3.2. After satisfying its dependencies and fixing the bugs that were throwing errors and warnings, I have moved on to tweaking the appearance of the Gtk3 theme to fix a couple inconsistencies that were annoying me. However, I have been stumped by a salmon-colored highlight that appears when selecting window elements by keyboard. This gallery demonstrates what happens when I open up the search application (gnome-search-tool) and press tab several times. This bug is particularly annoying in apps that have an element selected by default, such as Disk Usage Analyzer (Baobab). I have studied the Gtk3 documentation, and the gtk-widgets.css and gtk.css for the theme, but I can't figure out how to change this color, or even what property sets it.
    Does anyone know how to fix this? Is there another documentation resource that I should study? Are there other quite dark (but not black) themes out there that have matching Gtk2-3 versions which would better suit my needs?

    One thing you could try is use an app like 'gpick' that allows you to sample colors and have it display the result in html colors, then you can take that color code and search for it in gtk.css and gtk-widgets.css of your theme.
    I mod themes, and that is probably where i would start looking, beyond that, im not sure.
    However, if you are just looking for a dark theme that works with gtk3.2, I am the author of 2 themes, available at gnome.look.org;
    Marples-black
    http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=144240
    Blapple
    http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ … ent=144800
    out o the two, i myself prefer Blapple (although, Marples is way more popular, by downloads). They both are still a work in progress as gtk3.2 broke some stuff, so i have been changing things around, but they work decent enough. (plus, you can always mod them )
    0.
    EDIT: Both of my themes include gtk3/gtk2 themes, as well as a metacity theme (they use the same metacity theme

    as for the "bright" background, I just tried to stick to Atolm-gtk2, as for the colours.
    If you are going to release your theme, please credit me and if you can, provide a link to my original Atolm-gtk3 theme.
    You are welcome, and keep up the good work!
    I have added the link to both this thread and your deviantart page (which i already had a link to in another thread).  I wasn't going to claim credit for your work, no worries - as originally posted, i did mention it was based on Atolm-gtk3. I've actually recommended your theme to a few people. - My dad quite likes it
    ...as for my desktop being a "mess", I'm not exactly positive what you mean by that. ie: most of the contents of my desktop were temporary files in those screenshots.
    here is what my desktop looks like with the default gnome 3 background - with nautilus desktop, minus the icons/launchers/scirpts i was working on, and my clock also moved to the top, accordingly (to match the default background, in mine is it inset.) ;
    Depending on one's definition of "a mess", i would actually have to say, that in comparison - your desktop is actually quite the clutter'ed (don't mind the pun!) little mess.  You will notice, i do not require gnome-panel at all, or even gnome-shell - in my gnome 3 experience.... I have a single dock off to the side (to maximize widescreen real-estate), it also provides a gtk2 style start-menu (much faster than G3 menus) and allows me to access any setting/app not visible on the desktop.  I am not required to leave my desktop to do anything, at all. - any and all transitions used to move between apps/desktops  - happens without the disturbance or inconvenience of leaving my desktop, in any visually noticable way...including also being able to shut-off compositing, without interruption - which is impossible in Gnome-Shell. So i tend to think my desktop is much more minimal, and actually quite organized, thought out and simplified.... in fact as a tablet user, i don't even require clicking the mouse to change workspaces/applications, I need only move my stylus to whatever edge/corner triggers the desired function. i can also control every detail with a few only a few "clicks". I wouldn't call that a mess - i would say it's quite elegant, fast and smooth. it's like using an iPad or PC tablet. (but it's my desktop).
    it's also important to note that I have different design goals with my modification of your theme. My theme overlaps the menubar/toolbar,  on top of the window decoration by about 3 pixels (at the top of window, where the decoration meets the gtk-window)... this is to help ensure little to no "tearing", when using compositing effects which "heavily" distort windows - like wobbly windows, shift-switcher, etc. (there aren't any comparable effects in Mutter/Gnome-shell, that i have seen yet). - So i needed to fix problems that were quite visible in the original Atolm-gtk3 theme, when using Compiz++.  had i not fixed them, the theme would have appeared very messy and somewhat broken on my desktop....
    I also wanted sharp edges and borders to be more defined, as i often use window-tiling and also have a very dark-desktop. - i don't like having to focus my eyes to hard, so i also prefer contrast of colors and tones.  I work from home (@ two of my jobs) and spend a lot of late nights in front of the computer - light themes and/or themes with color schemes that lack contrast - become hard on the eyes, or cause you to need to be closer to the monitor. (which is bad for the eyes) i am even quite comfortable reading from 3/5 feet away - no joke!
    ...and i do prefer how nautilus' icon-view looks in my theme. the toolbar and background blend quite nicely (although i wish the toolbar had transparency, so that when scrolling, the icons would fade under the toolbar - that would be sweet!!! although at some point, i'm planning on ditching Nautilus anyway, when " Marlin" becomes production ready.
    My  theme still needs some work, and i have a few things i intend to add, as well. but i think another few hours of tweaking it, will enhance it and fix any issues...  ( i've only put in maybe 45minutes to maybe an hour, so  far - and this is my first attempt at gtk3 .css styling)...
    but i am thankful, because your theme provided a nice-base and i was able to learn a little bit more about theming becasue of it thanks again for your theme!

  • Unable to change Date Created in Metadata

    Please help with my first post...
    Unable to change Date Created field in Metadata.
    I am a newspaper photographer sending .jpg pics with captions to my office from my iMac. They are viewed at the office on Windows PCs using SCC MediaGrid.
    When changing Date Created in Metadata Invalid Format warning appears "Format should be ISO 8601 XML compliant, that is YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm[:ss][tz] (eg 2006-07-11T13:14:30-07:00)"
    If 2009-09-26, for example, is entered then exported pictures opened up in Photoshop or shown on SCC MediaGrid do not display the date.
    To get dates to show up I first have to open a pic in Photoshop, go to File Info, enter 26/9/09 in Date Created and Save As.
    Next I have to Import this into Aperture where the Date Created shows as "20090926".
    Using Lift Metadata and Stamp Metadata the date can be transferred to other pics.
    Now when I export these pics the date does show up in Photoshop and SCC MediaGrid.
    Can Date Created be typed straight into field in Aperture?...Very important when pics go into archive on a server.
    Also if I hit Return key in a Metadata Caption, to type on the next line, both lines will appear as one with a small square in-between them when viewed on SCC MediaGrid on a Windows PC.
    Thanks in anticipation.

    Nick I don't generallt use the IPTC metadata, so I'm not sure I will be too much help.
    What version of Aperture are you using? I tried both things and I didn't have any problems with the latest version of Aperture on my Mac.
    I was able to enter a date into "Date Created" both with and without the time-zone adjustment. Can you tell us the exact string you tried to enter into the "Date Created" and exactly when you get the error? I tried to enter my time zone (eastern US) as "-5:00", but Aperture wouldn't let me enter the 5 and popped up the error message when I typed that key. I had to use "-05:00".
    As for the caption, when I hit return, Aperture ends my edit. I cannot reproduce your described behavior of actually getting a new-line into the field. I suspect your problem (although I don't know how you get to your problem) is one of the following:
    1) The IPTC standard doesn't tell if the software should use a Unix-style end-of-line (which is a line-feed), or a DOS/Windows style end-of-line (which is carriage-return followed by line-feed). Aperture may put in the Unix-style and your Windows programs don't know what to do with it.
    2) The IPTC standard does indicate the end-of-line style, but either Aperture or your other programs don't follow it.
    or
    3) IPTC Metadata doesn't actually support end-of-line, so Aperture should not allow you to enter multiple lines, but it has a bug so it does allow you to do that.
    Can you tell us where exactly you are editing the caption? I tried it in the inspector pane (on the left) in the "Metadata" tab, and then I hit the "IPTC" button at the bottom of the tab.
