GTX Nvidia Kernel crash, possible heat issue ?
I had a crash tonight while working on the timeline of Adobe Premiere CS6. I am on a MacPro 3.1 with a GTX 470 (from macvidcards) under 10.8.4 and its proper drivers. I was doing extensive scrubbing and I could hear the GTX's fan spinning louder than usual. I thought these kernel crashes would dissapear with the latest nvidia drivers, in fact I haven't got a crash for over months until tonight where I was pushing the limit.
Then I opened GPUtest and did a stress test which crashed the screen and locked the system after only 3 minutes of heavy load and fan noise. Flickering dots and rectangles and color hue change. Forced restart.
I went on to purchase an Artic Cooling Acceleto Twin Turbo II graphics card cooler.
I am reasoning that this is a heat issue. Has anyone experienced similar, I still suspect the drivers but after the EVGA Mac Edition I don't know if it is fair to say so for Nvidia.
Thanks nbar, with pleasure..
This is what I pulled from the console:

No CC launch after Windows 7 Kernel crash possible.
Dear Photoshop community,
After a kernel crash of windows 7, I am no longer able to launch Photoshop CC 64 bit. After launching, the error message "Adobe Photoshop CC does not function any more" appears and CC must be closed. I tried many things, Reinstallation of CC, Reset of Preferences files in Appdata/Roaming and Appdata/local, deletion of temp files und Windows System recovery but photoshop cc still cannot be started. Before the Kernel Crash of Windows7 I was able to launch CC.
P.S. Still searching for any Launch log on my PC that give me some more details about the launch error....any idea where ?
Please help, my customers waiting für pictures and the Product Support will be available first on Mondays....
Thanks in advance.I found an interim solution - deinstalled CC, run a Adobe cleaner, created new administrative windows user und installed CC again. Now CC launches - but not long, after re-configuration of some applications under the new user, the same launch error occurs again. Very annoying....

580 GTX Twin Frozer II SLI heat issue
Hi.
I just bought another 580 GTX Twin Frozer II card becouse i thought the first one had artifacts issue.
First of all, both card gets a artifact look a like after a couple hours playing BF3, i read that this may have something to do whit Nvidia drivers so thats ok.
Both card has a idle temp at 35 degreds and load temp at 67 degreds, single testing.
When running the cards in SLI mode the idle temp of mastercard is 46 degreds and load 88 degreds, slave card idle is 35 degreds and load 78 degreds.
Is this right and safe degreds? I find it strange that the temp is so diffrent from single to SLI, both cards looks stable after som hours playing.
Also the fan is running at max when it reaches 80 degreds.
Info about the cards:
Core Voltage mV - 1025
Core Clock - 800MHz
Shader Clock - 1600MHz
Memory Clock - 2048MHz
Driver version - 285.79
Bios mastercard - 70.10.20.00.01
Bios slavecard - 70.10.17.00.01
Best regards
Øystein from Norway. Thanks for the reply. I watched that video but also watched this one:
He says the cards get up to 100ºC.
I know twin frozr works better than reference wit just one card, but with TRI SLI the cards being so closed and the cooler not sending the air out of the case (like the reference cooler does), maybe not the best solution.
Trying to confirm before I buy the three of them. -
V3.6.3 Crash Today - Possible Plugin Issue?
Re: v3.6.3 Crash Today - Possible Plugin Issue?
Ref: (a) Crash ID bp-cb196f96-dd38-44d7-bffb-778a22100531.
(b) https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
This user really does not know whether a plugin is involved here, but also, cannot rule that out. And exploring the Plugin Check page with its limited information, has found the following significant issue un-addressed, and thus, mysterious to him.
Please, consider adding to the Plugin Check page, ref. (b), an explanation on this question>> What must one do, i.e., perform what steps, to update a plugin? I.e, is it infallibly sufficient to download & to run the download? Is updating a fully automated process for all plugins?, or even for some plugins? E.g., does updating an Adobe plugin ever require uninstalling the old plugin first (as does updating the Adobe Reader program, and Acrobat, etc.)? How shall the general user of Firefox know precisely what he/she should perform in this regard, when it is well known that the Adobe updates sites generally fail to recognize and advise the user on the question of whether to uninstall first. We see it in forums, that many of us general users have encountered install failures with Adobe updates, and (1) have found that Adobe updates usually do not work well if installed over the old version, and (2) have found that uninstalling Adobe apps often does not go smoothly and fails to complete the job, leaving vulnerable exe's or dll's hanging around to frustrate our subsequent updating. And, Adobe is not the only offender in this way. A frank and helpful mention of this issue would save much wailing and gnashing of teeth, and if uninstallation is a good idea, please explain how to Uninstall a Plugin, because plugins generally lack an Uninstall button in the Add-ons window of Firefox. And, this begs the question, is it desirable to Disable a plugin, before running the updating installation file? Or is there "no benefit" if Disabled first? Please try to write up these aspects plainly. Ideally, from this user's perspective, placement of this ought to be a few sentences directly on the Plugin Check page. Your consideration and adoption of this suggestion is respectfully requested, and it will be much appreciated.

cor-el:
''You can disable plugins here: Tools > Add-ons > Plugins
See also Troubleshooting plugins
Plugins provide a way to use other program to embed content. so you have to go to the program that adds a plugin and check the options (preferences) to disable the plugin.''
Anyone knowledgeable, please comment.
Thanx for suggesting the Disable button, cor-el, but my question addressed Uninstall of Plug-ins. This was due to the now-recognized problem which afflicts Adobe update patches, that the patch doesn't go well unless the old version is Uninstalled first; thus requiring a clean installation of the fully updated application.
It is my understanding that the Disable button does not necessarily uninstall the old files. When I was unaware of this consistently occurring property of Adobe's patches, I had more than one case of Adobe Reader and Acrobat failing to update completely, causing hours of fruitless troubleshooting, and this continued with the most recent patches to Adobe Reader, the one updating it to v9.3.2, as well as earlier ones. Therefore, it seems not unreasonable to expect that the Shockwave Flash plugin that is now flagged as vulnerable again (v10.0.45.2), needs to be Uninstalled before updating.
Is there no dependable method for Uninstalling plugins?
If not, then one wonders, why not? Is there a reason why Mozilla designs Plugins to be different from Extensions in this regard? -
Kernel Crashes on iPhoto Movies
Lately, my MacBook Pro has been crashing with the updates of iPhoto and Mavericks almost continously when selecting movies in iPhoto. It is a kernel crash. Appears to be related to the graphics card. Any help greatly appreciated:

BSD process name corresponding to current thread: WindowServer
Mac OS version:
13A603You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. It has a defective logic board that may be covered by this recall program:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers may not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the recall only applies within three years of purchase. After that, Apple may refuse the service. In that case, you may be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a "depot repair," which involves shipping the unit to a central repair facility and takes about two weeks. For that flat fee, anything found wrong with it should be fixed, not just the logic board.
The model was discontinued in February 2011, so the replacement program will be ending quite soon.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility.
If it's too late for your unit to be repaired under the program, and you don't want to pay for a new logic board, you may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
IQ826t Restart and Heating Issue
One thing I definitely do not like the HP's support especially when they will not allow us to buy a 7 Upgrade from Vista nor will they support something (even when I find their glitches and they admit after telling me it was just the OS).. On Repair work, I had to ship it out and this will be my 2-3 time to do repair on this PC in the past 3 years (and I have to wait a week for the repair to be done...)
Besides that, IQ826t, Win 7 Ultimate SP1
All Drivers are up to date with HP website (utilizing Win 7 64 bit drivers and Firmware is up to date). AVG update/scan (no issue - confirmed even rootkit).. Malwarebyte - Scan and no issue
Disk Cleanup, Disk Defragmentation done on a monthly and quarterly schedule
Biggest Issue:
I am getting a crash with Win 7 0x124 Stop Error Message (happens periodically and even after a reboot)
Never had this issue until May and the upgrade to Win 7 was done last year with SP1 update done on March (so it is not an issue with the OS as HP support personnel seems to think... I proved them the issue with Windows Update History, The Bluescreen error code on my error code reader).. This machine under warranty and I had issues with it constant (even in Vista)
They state that it is the OS.. Again, if that was the case, I would think it would happen right away like my Toshiba on SP1 upgrade... That was not the case in the matter. I have a firmware reset (default settings) and the issue persist..
The Error Code relates always HAL.dll or ntoskrnl.exe
One if hardware compatiblity and the other is an OS kernel exe file.. And this usually checking knowledge base relates to hardware failing due to 1) Compatibility (which HP website confirms is not the case) 2) OS corruption (which is not the case checking on safe mode and this happening STILL 3) Heat Issue (which I believe is the issue and was been documented on the Internet
What I am noticing is the unit is extremely HOT (vent is almost burning when it has been off and just turned on).. I wonder if the hardware pieces are literally melting to destruction since I can't just open it up (they state it will void my warranty)
The Symptoms before the Crash (happens any time.. Even right after a power up)
If you are playing audio or video, you will start to hear jitters and sound seems to echo itself .. Video would start to lag and become choppy.. Systems start to slow down and things seem to run very slow.. I have seen the power light on the PC start on but the touchscreen just go black (will not restart sometimes)..
Minor Issues (but could be related)
1) When running PC Hardware Diagnostic, they will come up with an error code in the past and that was warranted for a motherboard replacement (of course, they ship the box to the wrong location and I was in the middle of my wedding so I get to it now).. It was pertaining to PCI Express Status ICH9 PCI Express Root Port where it will generate an error code... Now, running the diagnostic... I will not get any error but PCI Express Root Port 3 & 5 do not show up on the diagnostic... Wouldn't that obvious show something that is a problem when there are 6 ports (which on the previous diagnostic that I can't grab past logs shows that). That is not warranted for a warranty work? Just a note, I got the fail test code (which was intermittent but keep happening and the tech support would not look at previous case.. Port 4 failed and a fatal device code)
2) Blu-Ray player will not run and their answer is that it is your Blu-Ray until they realize that I ran it on 3 different Blu-Ray player standalone, different Blu-Ray, and confirm DVD will work.. They still think it is a software issue until they can't deny my point when it will not read the Blu-Ray no matter what (they took control and confirmed it).. They believe the HP SmartDVD software was failing because of Win 7 and not Vista (even when I downgrade and confirm it works, I stated the software is the issue... Lone and behold, 2 months later they had an update that they refuse to admit I was RIGHT on the matter and done 15 hours of troubleshooting that they were wrong about)
3) Wireless Keyboard and Mouse lost connectivity even if the battery is not low... Just stop typing or omit letters.. This is considering the keyboard is literally in front of the touchscreen
4) Touchscreen is sensitive when it wants to be but won't in other... Constant issues there
This is why I have so much issue with support.. They seem to show that they will do anything to deny the issue.. Heck, I am a computer technian calling on the issue.. It ain't like I didn't troubleshoot on the matter... But they think we are all morons and when I prove them wrong, they will use any excuse to honor warranty... That is why it is amazing..Look in your Settings > App Manager.
Tap Device Monitor.
Tap the Battery tab.
At the upper right, tap "Since Last Charge" to change to "Last 48 Hours".
What apps or processes are consuming the most battery power?
ALSO, in setting up your new Z30, are you syncing many contacts or calendar data from a connected email account?

After upgrading to 2.6.28, any Nvidia drivers == CRASH
I finally did an update to my system, and now with 2.6.28, No matter which nvidia drivers I use, things work fine in Xorg for an indeterminent amount of time, then all the sudden, my screens blank and the box is completely unresponsive to ping. At this point, touching the keyboard causes beeps. Presumably the kernel has paniced.
I've tried nvidia-180.29-3, nvidia-173xx (173.14.17-2) nvidia-96xx(96.43.11-2) as well as getting nvidia drivers directly from nvidia's site, doing an uninstall through here, etc. I know the issue is related to nvidia, since when I switch to vesa, the problem goes away.
Interestingly, the crash always seems to happen as a result of me typing on the keyboard. For example, I will be using mutt in an mrxvt terminal, and as soon as I hit 'j' or 'backspace' the box crashes. It never crashes when just using the mouse or not as the result of typing. Of course, this only happens after around 30 minutes or so, as I am using this setup right now and typing is working fine.
Presumably the rest of the Arch community isn't hitting this or it would have been addressed by now. My device is:

Last edited by randy80016 (2009-03-18 21:54:34)Actually I was wrong, this isn't a kernel panic, and may not even be related to Nvidia.
Xorg just plain crashes, and it does seem to be in keyboard handling code:

Where can I get symbols to debug this? Or is there way to just run Xorg inside gdb from the start? -

This obviously points to the Nvidia drivers crashing, but why? I'm currently using an Nvidia GTX 460 768MB in my Mac Pro, and I've never had this problem with any other applications. It seems to only be Bridge. And you are assuming that the 460 will be supported of course which is not a given. The 570 and 670 seems to be okay and some use GTX 4xx but they also realized it can be iffy for support.

[T430] Heat Issues in any 3D application
Hi there,
I bought my T430 Thinkpad in September 2013. It contains an i7-3520M and a Nvidia 5400M graphics card. I am aware that this is a business line notebook, not necessarily designed to handle high loads on GPU and/or CPU for a longer period.
However... I noticed quite strong heating on the left side of the notebook a while ago. It begins basically instantly after using any 3D application, no matter how challenging for the hardware. Within the first minute temperatures reach 90°C on the GPU and 80-85°C on both CPU cores. There's no performance issues in processing these applications. I can run certain games in medium graphics on full resolution and there won't be performance drops (it will constantly stay above 50 fps). When i start the same games in the lowest possible settings and on 800x600 the temperature difference is only about 3°C.
For example... take the original Unreal Tournament. Not that I'm playing it anymore, but just to show you how severe the problem is. Lowest settings, 800x600, game from 1999. Temperatures after 1 minute: 81°C and 78°C on the CPU cores, 87°C on the GPU. Also the Hard Disc gets above 50°C because of the heat inside the notebook.
To be clear: i7-3520M and GeForce 5400M can handle a lot more sophisticated 3D tasks with satisfactory performance. So what's the reason for these heat issues when I barely use the dedicated graphics card at all? I'm not expecting to get gaming-notebook performance here. But it'd be very nice to just be able to use it for graphically undemanding games without worrying about the hardware. I know it will shut down if it reaches critical temperatures, but I don't want to shorten the hardware lifespan by several months or years just because there's no adequate cooling solution in a (sorry to say so...) daaamn expensive notebook, where I paid more because I thought the quality of the case and its practical and clever engineering (as in cooling) would be superior to cheaper solutions.
BTW:
BIOS is updated.
I even used it on a cold stone surface.
There's absolutely no other issue with the notebook, it boots and runs perfectly fine besides the extreme heat in 3D applications.
Are these temperatures normal for a 2013 T430? Is there any solution?
Solved!
Go to Solution.Hi all
How about installing TPFanControl and set the fan speed to 64? This should help a bit.

I got my GTX 275 FTW in yesterday and while my rig is pretty screaming now, I'm having some heat issues. My profile contains all my specs and settings. I was hitting temps of up to 66c or so on my CPU when playing Grid at 1920x1080 with full AA/AF turned on yesterday. I've got a Cosmos 1000 case, which is quite silent, but not the best at moving heat, although it has a good number of fans.
I installed Nvidia Precision tool and set my fan to 70%. I'm hoping that helps some. Is there a way to crank up the fans any with the P7N diamond mobo? I've checked speedfan and it shows my CPU fans at 100%. I'm not sure about PSU or case fans and if there is any way to crank them up some. Any advice on maybe cooling it down some? Also, any suggestions on maybe tweaking my bios settings? I had a hell of a time getting the thing to run stable, as I had to OC and crank up the voltage to get the thing to even work out of the box. Thanks!Quote from: Jack t.N. on 18-September-09, 23:46:05
Well, this temperature limit is not defined for the Core Temperatures, but actually for the so-called "TCase" temperature (temperature measured at/in the geometrical center of the CPU's own heatspreader). There is no sensor there, so you can't really measure it anyway.
The limit for the Core Temperatures (TJunction) is much higher (Core Temp should show you the TjMax/TJunction value). It is usually around 95-105°C for a Quad Core processor.
Thanks for the info. So what would you think is a good "max" Core Temp temperature to go by before worrying? Obviously you would prefer to stay well below the TjMax value I would think... Also, what about GPU temp for a GTX 275 or do you know? I really appreciate the feedback by they way. It helps a lot.
I have also been worried about some of my bios settings, but have been unable to move to a new bios because I'm not sure how to convert the % based values to the more meaningful ones used with later revisions.. but alas that is another topic in and of itself. -
Hello everyone. I would like to discuss that little heat issue that MSI NF980-G65 seems to have.
So long story short :
my Rig : Phenom 1090t
HAF X with all cooling slots full + extra fans mounted for extra airflow
Venomous X
ZOTAC 480 AMP! + PNY 480 in SLI
Corsair TX850
Problem : I got one of mosfets undet "140W" , blown up after 15 minutes of LinX test
So, I've seen in HWmonitor and speedfan those nice 80-99C temps on some part of mobo, after googling I've found that that's the supposedly faulty sensor on this mobo. Well after the mosfet blew up I don't think it was all that faulty.
Anyway, is there any way to mount some sort of additional fan/cooling on the "140W" heatsink? or should I just change the original thermal crap for MX3 or smthg ? Because I've had a really good airflow in my case, and that didn't seem to help a bit ( my CPU was ideling at 29, my vid. cards were showing 39)
P.S. everything else worked fine: the sata, all 8 gigs on my ram, and sli worked like magic too.Hello
this not your problem dear AKRIAN only.
below is some links that discussed about that:
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=139175.0
http://www.overclock.net/amd-motherboards/730051-temp-issues-msi-nf980-g65.html
I have searched a lot about that. This dangerous raise in temp come to NFORCE 200 chip that is at the middle of board( between two SLI boards) and I think it is not bad sensor problem .It is very hot . seriously suggest have a lot of water near you for fire time with two GTX 480 and a NF980-G65.
I couldn,t use two 9800gt in summer because of temp problem and i am very disappointed .
First i loved this mobo for its ability but after that problem i lost many time to find problem , i send my graphic card for gauranty. I uninstalled heatsink and use a new adhesive. I used many programs for control temps and so on.
After this long time this is my condition : I use onboard graphic .I have soled my graphic cards.i am waiting for a low temp graphic card. maybe GTX 460. i have installed a little fan on the heatsink( with MSI label)( this fan decreased temp about 10 c .now it is abot 70 c in idle use.)
the competitive boards from other vendors with similar layout havent such a problem.
Now i ask myself what is the wrong with msi engineers? bad heatsink? bad place of chipset in the hottest point? bad voltage regulator?( some one said it is because bad voltage because it is not change many in load and idle use)? or nvidia false in making a chip with old technology?
This chip is used in some products that need x16/x16 pci express lanes like BIG BANG TRINERGY and X58 TRINERGY.
Now i suggest to every one that they buy MSI products if they have a cooler beside their case!

Last spring I've upgraded my video card (I run a 2.93GHz Quad-Core Xeon MacPro 4,1, 16GB 1066Mhz DDR3 Ram) to ATI Radeon HD 5870 (purchased through the online Apple store). I'd normally take the machine back to the Apple store and have them troubleshoot it again. However, this is the busiest time of the year for our studio, and I can't afford to be without my machine for even a single day. These kernel crashes sometimes corrupt my library, which needs to be rebuilt upon restart. This worries me even more as I'm concerned about the integrity of client files.
If anyone can shed any light on this I would greatly appreciate it.

April 2010 MacBook Pro Heat issues.
My first post and first Mac, so please be patient....
MCP 15" HiRes glossy, Intel i7, 500G 7200rpm HD, (you know the rest)
I had bought my MBP in late April, the machine is great had no issues at all outperformed any comparable machine I put it up against. After having it a couple weeks I decided to push the video card a bit to see how it handled gaming. I reopened my World of Warcraft account and noticed a great deal of heat being put off by the machine(too hot to touch above function keys). For days I read forums on both Apple and World of Warcraft to see if the heat output is normal or not.
Things unclear to me are what exactly is Apple, Nvidia, and Intel claiming to be normal operating heat levels? (Exact temps please, I monitor using istat)I am running World of Warcraft between 160 F and 170 F and occasionally in the 180's with the frame rate dummied down to 30 fps and some other settings reduced. I should not have to do that. Its used on a flat surface, no obstructions. I refuse to buy an extended warranty for a built in system killer such as heat(would rather return and pay less). Did a hardware test everything passed. Fans running normal between 2000 and 3000rpms during use. Like I said in the first sentence this is my first Mac and think this is a little too hot in my opinion, but I am no expert so if i am wrong please tell me. I love the notebook but am worried about the heat, and cannot afford to shell out another $2200 in a year or two for a notebook that over time failed from heat issues.
I am coming from an HP ZD8000 with a 256mgb ATI video card that had only gotten a little bit luke warm at maximum settings and 60 fps in World of Warcraft, but that desktop replacement had 4 fans.
Should I have Genius bar do a GPU test? or is this heat acceptable?Nate, welcome to Apple Discussions!
In short, your temperatures are perfectly normal. In fact, they're a bit on the cool side. I assume you're reporting the CPU diode ("CPU") temperature using iStat? If so, the temps are completely and perfectly normal.
170ºF is only 76ºC. The CPU is rated up to 105ºC (221ºF). If you've got the fans speeding up at that temperature then it is running perfectly normally. You've got a lot more room there before anything ever becomes damaged. And, rest assured, if the temperatures ever climbed to a point where damage is possible (I've never heard of that and I've been on these MBP forums for 2 years) then the machine will automatically shut itself off. There is no way that you could do damage to it with heat.
Like I said in the first sentence this is my first Mac and think this is a little too hot in my opinion, but I am no expert so if i am wrong please tell me.
You're wrong. It's perfectly normal. You don't need to be worried. They're designed to run warm under heavy load. People use these things for rendering and encoding video all day long. Yours will be just fine if you play Warcraft on it once in a while. Bump up the settings a bit too; I don't see why that would generate any more or less heat.
I am coming from an HP ZD8000 with a 256mgb ATI video card that had only gotten a little bit luke warm at maximum settings and 60 fps in World of Warcraft, but that desktop replacement had 4 fans.
Well, that's the problem. That thing was plastic, correct? And probably 2" thick? With huge fan vents on the back? The MBP is exactly the opposite of that. Metal conducts heat much better, and helps to cool the computer too. However, you also feel the heat more. The MBP is half the thickness of that thing, and doesn't have the vents either or the huge fans. All it means is it will heat up a bit more, but it's been designed just fine with that heat in mind.

[Solved] Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module
Hi all,
I've just made the jump to arch and have a fresh install. I'm having trouble getting the nvidia drivers to work. I am currently using the nouveau drivers without issue.
The method I am using - after much trial - is:
- uninstall nouveau and mesa lib
- install nvidia package
- remove nouveau module entry in mkinitcpio.conf
- run `mkinitcpio -p linux`
- edit .conf in xorg.conf.d with minimal required settings. Currently:
Section "Device"
Identifier "device0"
Driver "nvidia"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection
I have installed the linux-headers package and tried reinstalling nvidia again

The only entry I found in `dmesg | grep nvidia` related to nvidia-drm, and seemed to say it was loaded successfully. I didn't save the exact entry and i've reinstalled nouveau now so that I could post this.
Any help much appriciated. I've been at this for a while. Learning a lot in the process!
Last edited by gnibbler (2014-01-04 22:31:49)Success! Several days of trying various things and I finally give in and make a post to this forum. One more attempt - which was only really so that I could add modprobe info to this post - and it works.
I had at some stage installed the driver xf86-video-nv, and this may have been causing the clash. I un-installed it, and followed the procedure above to reinstall nvidia.
I think the main hang up I'd had is that I had not been rebuilding my kernel image with mkinitcpio after installing nvidia during my previous attempts.
I hope some info in here helps some other stuck archer.
Edit: Thanks graysky. I had found the right nvidia driver using the arch wiki and followed this advice to remove the nouveau hook. Much appriciated.
