GW IMAP Crashing 8.02HP3 on NW Servers

Had 8.02HP3 running for a while on NW6.5 SP7 servers. All was well. We started using NotifyLink a couple months ago and ever since, a few of the servers will crash periodically. Abend log (below) says it's choking on GWIMAP. Have been working with NL support but getting nowhere.
Any help will be appreciated.

Well, it may have absolutely nothing to do with your problem, but one of the
first reactions most will have is:
Patch NW6.5 to SP8 and install all the post SP8 patches.
There are a fair amount of stability issues addressed in SP8 that may have
some indirect impact.
As I recall, that includes things like memory leakage.
On a more issue-related note:
Prior to using NL, were you allowing any client connections via IMAP?
How many IMAP threads is the POA set to allow?
Is the POA running in protected space?

  • Gmail (IMAP) Crashing

Has this been happening to anyone else? I searched the forums but didn't find anything on it crashing. Basically my Gmail crashes other applications. Every time I send a photo Photos crashes and puts me back to the Home screen. Same with email from Safari. Safari crashes and puts me back to Home. The content is sent but the applications still crash. I've reset my phone a couple times.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers.

I have no other IMAP accounts on the phone. But you were correct in that it was copying the sent message onto the GMail server. Once I told the phone to save it locally, it worked fine for both pictures and URL links, no crashing. That's good work around.. So there is something up with sending the sent message over to the server.. whether that's a phone or server thing, I don't know..

  • IMS 52 Imap crash/hang with multi CPU?

    Hello,
Running on NT with SP6a, noticed that with multiple cpu imap just hangs after a while. The process is still there, and it is not taking up any cpu time. It just won't respond, even telneting to the port. Looks like for every attempted connection there is a close_wait in the netstat. Anyone else see this problem?

Yes, I'm getting this too. Sun engineering has yet to fix it. I have a case open with them.

  • Detecting an IMAP crash.

    Guru/'s
We are implementing an Indexing Search Service where, we index e-mail documents in a mailing list. One of the requirement for this is to read these e-mails via IMAP and then process each e-mail Message Objects.
Before i start coding, I want some advice... Is there any thing in Java (or) JavaMail that detects if the IMAP server is down (or) unresponsive and retry connecting to the IMAP Server ?.
Also if some one already implemented such a thing, it would benefit us immensely
    Thanks a bunch

Yes, you can rely on the listeners, but...
In general, errors/events are only detected, and listeners notified, when you're
executing a command. And if the command fails, you'll get a synchronous notification
    via an exception.
Some applications benefit from being able to decouple handling of the events notified
by the listener from their main processing. It's not clear it would help in your
    application.

  • Frequent mail crashes

I use Mail on 10.9.3 with multiple IMAP accounts (but almost nothing the servers, all local in many folders). In the last days Mail started to crash several times a day, mostly when I interact with messages (replies, moving to folders, attachment stuff etc.) My feeling is I am too fast for Mail - but that never was the case before and I have a fast machine and Internet connection.
    What to do?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • The Skinny on IMAP vs POP Email and work arounds

It took me a while to figure out email so I figured I'd share what I've learned so far.  Do feel free to reply with more useful tips for us all if anyone has some.
First email accounts are either IMAP or POP and the first step was figuring out the difference:
    IMAP
       Mirror of the server
What is done one place is done everywhere because you are looking at the server.
Advantage: can access email from multiple devices/locations
Disadvantage: May have to mark as read individually when adding to a new device
    POP
       Independent of the server
What is done one place stays that place because you have moved it from the server.
Advantage: once it's delivered the mail can be viewed offline
Disadvantage: where ever it is delivered once, the other divices do no have access to the mail
Think of the server as a huge mailbox as big as a room!
       IMAP
With IMAP the mail stays in the mailbox until you delete it permenently,
but once it is deleted it has moved out of the main part of the huge mailbox into the trash can in the room of the huge mailbox (the trash folder settings decide when the trash gets taken out and deleted permenently) when deleted permenently it is no longer in the trash can in the huge mailbox it has been taken out the the dump.
If you read it then it's like opening the mail but leaving it in the huge mailbox.
If you move it to another folder then it's like moving it to the desk in the room but still in the mailbox.
       POP
With POP the mail is taken out of the mailbox and moved to the computer (in the other room)
Once you request/download your mail it is taken off of the server and whatever is done with the mail the server no longer has access to it
If you read it (or move it to a folder) it is the same thing as Mom taking the mail out of the huge mailbox and putting it in the car, if Dad checks the mailbox the mail may have been delivered by Dad is not going to find it because it is no longer in the mailbox it is with Mom in the car.
Here a link that helped me figure it out:
    http://www.office.mvps.org/glossary/pop_imap.html
So after you decide wether you want to use IMAP or POP which email carrier is which?
    Microsoft Exchange is IMAP
    MobileMe is IMAP
    Yahoo! mail is IMAP
    Hotmail is IMAP
Gmail is IMAP can be set up as POP
         see here for that:  https://discussions.apple.com/message/8149520#8149520
~Most web-based email is IMAP (if it is designed to be accessed via the web by ANY computer it's likely IMAP)
         settings for incomming/outgoing servers:   http://www.emailaddressmanager.com/tips/mail-settings.html
AOL is POP can be set up as IMAP (origanally intended to be used with only one computer via the ISP)
see here for that: http://email.about.com/od/aoltips/qt/Access_an_AOL_Email_Account_with_any_POP_IM AP_Email_Program.htm
    Comcast is POP
    Qwest is POP
    Earthlink is POP
~Most ISP (internet service providers) email from a cable/internet company of a business specific email is a POP account
Use this chart HT1277 ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1277 ) for contacting your service provider or IT department to acquire the proper settings for your email account!
Finally, as promised, work around for your email:
If you only have access to a POP email account and it won't work on your iPhone or want it to act like an IMAP account, then follow these steps~
    1)   Get a free IMAP email account (using Gmail for this example)
    2)  Sign in to your Gmail account
    3)  Click the gear icon in the upper-right
    4)  Select Gmail settings
    5)  Select the Accounts and Import tab
    6)  Under Send mail as, click Add another email address
    7)  In the 'Email address' field, Enter your name and alternate email address (ie the POP address)
    8)  Choose use Gmail's servers to send your mail
    9)  Click Next Step>>
    10) Click Send Verification
(Gmail will send a verification message to your alternate email address to confirm that you own it)
    11) Open your other account and click the link in the message Gmail sent
    12) Add your new Gmail account to your iphone
You will be able to send, receive, reply, forward, delete, and manage folders of your other address through your Gmail address on your phone and it will appear to the recipients as though it came from your other address.

Allan, I have run into questions in this area recently since I got my iPhone. I have a long time Charter ISP POP email account which I've accessed with Apple Mail. This has worked fine. I also have a Yahoo web based account which I've also used separately.
Now when I set up my Yahoo account on my iPhone it worked great. But when I set up the Charter account it resulted in an IMAP account with incoming and outgoing servers being mobile.charter.net. Charter website implies that all email accounts on all mobile devices must be set up like this. My question is whether I can, or should, try to set up the account manually as a POP on my iPhone so it will behave similarly to the Charter POP account in my iMac?
I've run into some conflicts after using my iPhone to access my Charter email. My inbox on my desktop iMac in Apple Mail will give me the message that another client is accessing the email account when I try to get new mail soon after my iPhone has been accessing the Charter account. I've wondered whether this is a conflict between IMAP and POP?
    Confusing. Thanks.
    Steve M.

  • Problems when I changed from POP3 to IMAP in Mail

When using POP3 protocol on my Mac I was able to have a sound played to let me know when new mail came in.  Since I switched to IMAP protocol, I can't seem to make that happen.
I am running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and using the Mail program for our email.  I also have an iPhone and an iPad and saw that using the POP3 protocol, when I read/delete my mail on one of the devices I have to repeat the same actions on all of the devices to keep them in sync.  I was advised that using the IMAP protocol on all of the devices would keep the mail in sync on all of them, so I switched.  That's when the sound stopped playing for newly received email.
I tried defining a rule that says play sound when specific conditions are met, but it is working counterintuitively (i.e. when I am sending a message but not when a new one comes in.)
Clearly, I am missing something.  Is there a setting somewhere that allows me to have a sound played whenever a new piece of mail comes in?  Looking for the support of the community on this one.  Thanks in advance.

You need to make sure you have the correct settings in the mail servers: incoming and outgoing. Make sure they are imap server settings and not POP servers. You will have to check them on all devices. If it's POP on the other devices, it will not sync with IMAP.

  • Tomcat JRE crash on Windows

We are running Apache Tomcat/5.5.23. When we open a new session to the tomcat from remote server the JRE crashes after the login page. It always terminates in the same location, same crash.
We have tried serveral versions of JRE (1.4, 1.5, 1.6), and tried several versions of tomcats (4 & 5), but it always reproduces. Notice that starting the internet explorer to connect to the tomcat on the local machine (and not from remote server) this does not reproduce. The problem occurs only (and always) when lauching the Internet explorer on remote machine.
I've tried to submit this as bug in SUN's bugdatabase but got no reply.
Anyone know how can we solve this?

  • Unable to delete IMAP mail account in Yosemite

I have set up a number of IMAP mail accounts, but have changed servers. I'm unable to delete the old accounts in the "Accounts" tab of Mail with an "error" dialog referring me to "Internet Accounts" tab of System Preferences. The accounts do NOT exist in this list. The accounts have been unchanged for years and have migrated with each OS & Mail.app upgrade.
I don't necessarily wish to delete the accounts - if I could just edit the server details that would do the job, however that  field is greyed-out and can't be edited.

I am having the exact same problem. iPhone 5 on 7.1. I try to 'turn off' contacts, the phone requires me to 'delete my account'. I agree to do so, and the phone just 'hangs' at the 'Delete' screen. I have allowed it to continue for over a half hour.

  • IMAP support and timeouts

I was trying to help someone with a Mac whose email had stopped working.
This was an almost new Mac and the Mail program had automatically configured itself to use IMAP.
At first this worked fine then it stopped receiving emails with a timeout from the BT email server.
For a few days it started working again and then back to timeout issues.
BT's email help gives settings for POP3, but not for IMAP.  Unfortunately I couldn't see on the Mac how to manual configure the account to use POP3 rather than IMAP.  So I phoned BT technical support.  Unfortunately, they had little training and some it was highly questionable:
They insisted that if web mail (bt.yahoo.com) was working then their email servers were fine and any problem was with the email software on their customers machine.  I'm pretty certain this isn't correct - I doubt the webmail uses POP3 or IMAP and certainly not the public IMAP server
I asked if BT supported IMAP and if so if the servers were working.  Unfortunately none of the 3 people I spoke to knew what IMAP was and were keen for me to pay for technical support i.e. if web mail works then must be customers problem and they should pay.  Frustrating!
I then created a new account on the Mail program and gave it a dud email address so the automatic configuration couldn't work.  This enabled me to specify POP3 and the mail.btinternet.com mail servers and it worked.
I still don't know if BT support IMAP.  If they don't, they should ensure automatic email account configuration doesn't select IMAP.

For some definition of "support" - yes, they do, in that BT's email service is outsourced to Yahoo!, and  it's currently possible to use IMAP by configuring your client software to use Yahoo! servers. Whether that'll always be the case - if BT change their email outsourcing arrangements for example - is anybodys guess.
BT's officially supported email service at mail.btinternet.com doesn't provide IMAP.
If they don't, they should ensure automatic email account configuration doesn't select IMAP.
How would they do that ?  Automatic configuration is done by the client software...

  • TSAM couses crash

    Hi,
Now I really need TSAM to track a transaction over domains.
But LMS couses the invloved server to crash, it's very obvious.
When I shutdown LMS server it work's (well still with our problem) and when I start LMS again the server crash.
    Anyone with a good idea?
    TSAM for Tuxedo 10.3g
Edited by: Mats Ulvedal on 2010-apr-01 04:01

    Hi Mats,
I'm very surprised to hear you are having problems with servers crashing due to LMS. In fact, it's hard to imagine how that can occur since the LMS in Tuxedo 10gR3 is a standard Tuxedo server that other servers invoke via a tpacall(). So how that can crash one of your application servers is beyond me. Please contact Oracle customer support and open a case as there should be no possible way for the LMS to cause your servers to crash.

  • DOES IMAP WORK WITH BTINTERNET EMAIL ACCOUNTS

    PLZ HELP ME

    cyandog,
POP3 and IMAP are protocols for accessing mail servers. Kind of like the language the mail server speaks. Not all mail servers support both protocols or kind of like being bilingual, and only the people who set up the mail server, in this case BT Internet, will know if their server does both.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Nokia messaging. pop3 or imap?

    Hi,
what is the difference between pop3 and imap? Which is the best for Nokia Messaging? Thanks.

POP3 only allows you to see your Inbox, IMAP allows you to see all your folders.
POP3 doesn't allow push e-mail, IMAP does (if IMAP IDLE is supported).
Nokia Mail is Nokia Mail, you set up your account using the wizard and what appears works, supposedly. Really it's IMAP IDLE running on Yahoo's servers.
Nokia Messaging is a service set up on Nokia's servers which polls POP3 and IMAP mailboxes and pushes updates to the phone. Good points: It's Nokia's most supported option (meaning if you set up a direct connection to a POP3 or IMAP mailbox and it doesn't work, Nokia will tell you to accept the terms and conditions and use Nokia messaging). Bad points are an always-on connection draining the battery and privacy (Nokia keeps a copy of your passwords and repeatedly logs into your mailboxes with no encryption).

  • Why is Firefox 3.6.3 the most unstable browser available?

Firefox 3.6.3 freezes, hangs, crashes, won't terminate, won't delete the stupid parental file when it crashes, I have to use Task Manager to manually close FF before re-attempting. I had less problems with a dial-up connection at 28.8 baud than this! It's practically unusable, and it this continues, myself and perhaps hundreds of thousands of Mozilla enthusiasts will cease to be so, abandoning Mozilla's products. After all, the recent changes to Thunderbird are the worst changes EVER made, virtually wiping out entire e-mail accounts and all of the e-mails contained in them with the stupid IMAP problems and not clearing mail servers. Let me know when Mozilla is dead, it's heading there very quickly. Actually, don't bother, I probably won't care anymore by then.

I have firefox 3.6.10 and I dont intend to make any updates due to instability of navigation.
When I make a search using Google site about 40% of the pages make Firefox crash and overturn.
To minimize the crash I disable all plug-ins, but it not works always.
Currently I use Firefox only for a few known sites, like webmail and forum dicussion groups, mainly due to facility of iMacros automation.
For research I used only Google Chrome that never does crash.
I also replaced the abandoned Compooser by the free KompoZer (with the same user interface) to maintain and update my sites.
My condolences to the Mozilla family ...

The OS has been kept up to date with patches via YOU. The system will hang from time to time with no warning, and nothing out of the ordinary written to /var/log/messages. I cannot even login at the console. It is completely frozen, and unfortunately seems to be random. It will be fine for a couple of days, and then it may lock up for two, three, four days straight. It usually has to be physically powered down and then back up to 'resolve' the issue. We have replaced both processors, the motherboard, all of the memory, and the video card, and still no luck. IBM says that with all the new components installed, it HAS to be a software issue. Any ideas?

I have similar situation: IBM xSeries 235 Type 8671, 2xXeon 3GHz, 2GB RAM, 6xSCSI HDD, etc; system is Linux Fedora Core 2 & Oracle 9.2.0.4. It works very well, no errors, no warnings, wonderful performance, but it falls 3..5 times a week (4 days without a crash is my best achievement).
I've downloaded and installed all firmware/bios upgrades available at their site, but it looks like the "reset" button is the only remedy for this server. Local TechSupport has unbreakable defence: this server, they say, has advanced built-in diagnostic (service processor, etc), so, any hardware problem would be located immediately; thus, the problem is Linux, don't use Fedora Core 2, don't use kernel 2.6.9, buy enterprise version (RHEL, SLES) and everything will be OK.
The fact is, I'm not sure enterprise Linux will change the situation. Choosing Fedora Core 2, I was ready to error messages, segmentation faults, problems with libraries. Instead, there is Oracle running smoothly, and Linux regularly throwing black screen, or, sometimes, Machine Check Exception, CPU Context Corrupt and other awful messages.
Without Oracle (or with Oracle and 3..4 users) system may work 2 weeks or more. So, it looks like Oracle is guilty. But I'd rather relate the problem to intensive memory and network usage, when 50 users work with database.
IBM web site contains contradictory information. It looks like there were problems (sudden crashes, reboots) with IBM xSeries Servers having Xeon and 533MHz FSB (no matter what OS). They've promised to repair it with BIOS update at the 3rd quarter (this year?). But the last BIOS update (1.13) is of 22-Jun-2004. Is this the one or not? I don't know. And after a month of fight with this server I still cannot deside: is this hardware or software problem? And what to do? Move to RH9? To Windows?
And above all, is that possible, that user mode application kills operating system like Linux? I accept, it can overload, slow down, cause denial of service.
But kernel panic, MCE, or just black screen...
