Hands Free Voice Memo

Is there any way to activate the Voice Memo on the new Iphone hands free?

Spoke with two reps from the new Apple Expert service. After some good advice to do my restore again as a new iPhone, I still had the same problem. Got a callback from a second rep who believed it to be a hardware issue. She set me up with a Genius appt, which was cool to not have to make another call or visit to a web page, and recommended that they replace the phone. The genius was helpful and agreed that we had done so many restores that it certainly appeared to be hardware. After getting the new phone home and getting it set up, I still have the same problem of "No", "Wrong" etc no longer working. Bummer.
I'm beginning to suspect that when this problem developed was when I upgraded to 3.01. I sent feedback to apple and am really hoping that either the next update does it or that someone might have some advice on diagnosing the software issue.

  • Wanted "hands free" voice memo recording.

I am an inspector.  I want to use my new Motorola Razr Maxx to make "voice memos"… recordings, while I am inspecting.  I have a Plantronics Voyager PRO HD Bluetooth headset that I can access my voice commands.  Love it.
I am disappointed that my phone does not have a "memo recorder" as a part of the ‘voice commands’ I access through my headset.
I have not found an app to let me do what I need to do.
I want to use my headset to access the recorder… then use the headset to start and stop the recording … all from my headset while leaving my phone in the safety of its pouch.
Does anybody know of an app or widget to get me where I want to go?

    Hi
I got the exact same experience. But I have the guitar tuner app "ClearTune". I don't know if the app is locking the internal mic from the voice recorder?. What a pain

  • Jelly Bean update completely killed true hands free voice dialing.

Regardless of the fact that S-Voice (as well as Google Voice dialing/search) is unable to recognize most of my contacts, it's also a fact that by definition, it cannot work as a true hands free voice dialer, which is defined as the ability to make a call without touching (or even seeing) the phone AT ALL.  This is due to the simple fact that neither S-Voice nor Google Voice dial/search allows you to say "yes" or "no" to a phone number confirmation prompt.  In other words, you need to see the screen at some point in order select the correct number to dial.  Prior to the Jelly Bean update, this issue was relatively easily solved by using a third party app -- I preferred an app called "Cyberon Voice Commander" -- to take over the voice dialing duties.  The first time you hit the Bluetooth button after installing the app, you could select the default program to respond to the BT button.  I simply selected the Cyberon Voice Commander app, and everything worked from this point forward -- I could dial a number without ever taking the phone out of it's case.
With the Jelly Bean update, however, this is suddenly no longer possible because S-Voice completely takes over the Bluetooth button, and does not allow another app to take over as the default.  The "launch by default" section for S-Voice in the application manager is now greyed out, and says "no defaults set" for S-Voice even though S-Voice is set as the default program to launch when pressing the BT button.  The only "potential" solution is to completey "disable" S-Voice via the application manager, which does allow you to select Cyberon Voice Commander as the default BT button press app, but there are two problems with this.  First, the default resets when turning the phone on even though you select "always" for the CVC app.  This means that you have to re-select the third party app as the default BT button app EVERY time the phone is turned off.  Second, disabling S-Voice is not a solution because I still would like to use it for things OTHER than voice dialing.  Disabling it completely removes it from the menu, making it unusable even for things that it is better at.
I cannot believe how hard S-Voice is being shoved down our throats.  Why would they make it mandatory?  The whole point of Android is that it's supposed to be "open" and allow users to individually decide on their own way of doing things -- i.e. to offer multiple approaches that suit your preferences rather than adopting a narrow minded "we decide what's best" attitude.  This is the whole reason that I moved away from Apple.  This S-Voice situation, however, is just ridiculous.  It's fine to push it as an "option," but please keep it OPTIONAL -- particularly given that it literally CAN'T do what other apps do (i.e. true hands free dialing.)

A few things you can try ... turn off the phone, remove the SIM card, wait a few minutes, then reinsert the SIM card and re-boot the phone.  Maybe a fresh connection to the network will improve the signal/call quality.
Do a system cache clear; it won't delete your data:
    Power down phone
Hold volume up/down & power simultaneously until you see the Boot Mode Selection Menu
Use volume down to navigate to 'Recovery', use volume up to select
You should see screen with triangle and exclamation point next to an Android
Press volume up/down simultaneously to go into system recovery
Use volume rocker to navigate to 'wipe cache' and use power button to select
Once finished, use volume rocker to navigate to 'reboot system now' and use power button to select
If all else fails, back everything up, remove the SD card to be on the safe side, and factory reset the phone.  No, it's not a preferred option, but sometimes that is what it takes to 'clear out the cobwebs' after an operating system update.

  • Ref Hands Free Voice Dialing

Why does the IPhone not offer hands free voice dialing? If and when will this feature be available? Most important for save driving! Reason I returned mine the day after I purchased. Assumed such a sophisticated phone would have handsfree voice dial. Cost me 50 bucks which I see as a ripoff!

Thank you so much for your response! I was so disappointed about the phone! Due to several disabilities this phone is answered prayer for me. It was the hardest thing for me to return it. I was worried that Apple would make a better phone which I could not afford if I kept this one. So, do you think it would be safe for me to go back and rebuy the IPhone and then just wait for the updates? I assume the updates can be downloaded to the existing phones that people have already purchased. So not to look not so bright, your response is, updates are around the corner for the owners of the present IPhone. Please let me know. Thanks again for your positive response. I sure hope Tim feels much better now! And a big thanks to Tim for making me aware of the importance of the preview button!

  • Hands free voice activation

Can anyone tell me if there is any compatible hands free voice activation software from a bluetooth for an iPhone 3G?

    Yacci,
The iPhone itself does not have this feature, but AT&T provides a service for it: http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/basics/choosing-features-services/voicedial.js p
This is something you can provide feedback to Apple for, as a feature request: http://www.apple.com/feedback
    Hope this helps,

  • Hands free voice calling?

Is there a hands free voice activation accessory so I can comply with the July California Hands Free Law?
Does it allow me to say Call Work" and dial my work number?

I came here to ask this exact question. It's bound to be the #1 question for the iPhone in CA around the time the law goes into effect. If Apple or someone else has not already thought of it they would have really dropped the ball. After all, Apple is headquartered in CA too!
BTW I use a small Motorola bluetooth hands free device that works great. I just need the voice dialing capability.

  • True Hands Free Voice Dialing Yet?

Can't anyone recommend a good to great hands free voice dialing app for iphone4 so that I don't get another cell phone $130 ticket and 2 points on my license?
I don't mind pressing an app button to start the process but after that I just want to say something like: "Call John Doe" and have the app find the contact, if more than one phone #, ask me: "Home or Mobile" for example, then I say "Home" and it dials it.  All hands free other then starting the app.
Isn't there an app for that yet?

    Actually Jennifer, I have OnStar!
But sadly my Subaru has the analog version so when the FCC mandated that such services convert to digital, I unfortunately had an OnStar system that couldn't upgrade to digital. Only the analog/digital ones could. So I have all the buttons, but no service anymore
And i LOVED my OnStar and the hands free dialing. Subaru doesn't offer OnStar anymore. I think only GM cars have it, but I could be wrong on that.
On a side note.. my Subaru is a 2004. So when I bought it, after I lost service I realized that both OnStar and Subaru had to know when I bought my car that shortly my OnStar service would be defunct. But no one told me that on the showroom floor. Had they, I would have not bought the Subaru as I really wanted an OnStar car. So I took both Subaru and OnStar to task and claimed they defrauded me by not telling me that my OnStar system had a lifespan of about 2 -3 years when I purchased the car.
I bitched, moaned, wrote letters, threatened, complained, relentlessly. Finally I gotta check for $500. Better than nothing...
    I miss my OnStar though.
Now back to our topic: I found a great app today since starting this thread: Melodis Dialer. Pretty cool and FREE! It's not 100% hands free. You have to press the app to launch it and press a button and say: "John Doe Home" or "John Doe Work" and the little bugger dials. Some of these after market dialers ask you a ton of questions before dialing. Not this little guy. So... if you live in a hands free state, you'll have to keep your iPhone in your lap and press a two buttons, but at least you can keep your other hand on the wheel and your eyes 99% on the road...
Map Quest GPS is free too and talks the directions. Found that today too. Again off topic. Sorry.
    Check em out...

  • N95 used with new Honda CRV Hands Free Kit

I'm using a N95 with Honda's built in Hands Free Voice Activated Bluetooth kit.
I've paired the phone with the car & everything works fine. When I press the call button on the stearing wheel & say the voice tag that I have recorded on the cars system the call is made through the car kit.
The problem is that you can only store a measly 50 voice tags on the car's system, which is not much use for business users, so other numbers have to be dialed from the phone it's self.
When you dial a number on the phone & press send it doesn't connect with the car kit & the call stays with the phone. I've discovered that once the call is answered you can select options on the phone & transfer the call to the blue tooth kit, but by the time you've managed that (& it doesn't always work first time !), half the people you've rang have put the phone down !
Am I missing something really silly here ?
How do I get the call when initiated from the phone to go through the car's system without having to press buttons.
I'd be very grateful if anyone has any ideas as the Honda garage & Honda themselves haven't !

    Hi
Your "work around" is the only solution I've been able to come up with as well - as you say - hardly hands free, but the only way you can get it to make a call that isn't in the cars 50x misely voice tag memory.
Have you noticed also that when you first start the car, it hardly ever understands your first voice comand ? It's as if the car has to load the software before it can work. It's the same with voice commands for the audio, climate control & sat nav - I think the woman behind the dash board falls asleep & has to be woke up every time you set off !!! Once you've used it once she is back up to speed till you switch off & re-start the engine.
With regard to the noise levels in the car & people not hearing you above 40 mph I have exactly the same problem, my garage have changed the mic on my car kit & it made no difference at all !!! I also had a modification made to the wing mirrors to cut down the wind noise (have you had this done ?) but every day someone tells me I sound as if I'm speaking from the bottom of a pit !!!
Other car kits I've had over the years have worked fine with good clarity both ways & cost a lot less.
It could be such a good system with just a few tweeks !!

  • Can an individual create a voice memo for free on their Windows based laptop via Apple website and then send it to perhaps an iCloud client?

I am hard of hearing and will likely become deaf one day, so for me receiving voice memos (not telephone voice messages) on my iPhone is a nice treat!  Unfortunately not everybody has an Apple device.  Some of my family members and friends have tried to create a voice memo via Windows Media Player and sent it to my email, but as most know... I can't play the voice memos on my iPhone even after trying to use a conversion program to convert the voice memo.
So my question is... Can any individual (regardless of device they use) create a voice memo for free on the Apple website and sent it to an Apple client?
i absolutely love my iPhone.  The accessibility options are wonderful to have for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.  But having this one accommodation done for the hard of hearing people specifically
    Thank you!

    @lahwaacz,
Could you point me to documentation regarding bugs/problems with laptop-mode tools? I'm using that right now and it has always worked pretty well but I'm currently seeing higher temperatures (~10C higher on average) and trying to figure out why.
My fan operates continually but not, I think, very aggressively. But it has always done that so I assume it is normal for this laptop. (Have no idea really but it doesn't seem out of the way - it is a laptop, after all...)
I don't know anything about fan control, my laptop controls fan speed automatically, I can't even get current fan speed.
The main problem with laptop-mode-tools is that it's very huge, and the bigger the program is, the slower is the execution. Another problem is that it's connected to both battery and AC adapter ACPI events (see /etc/acpi/events/lm_{ac_adapter,battery}). On my laptop, those events are sent at the same time, resulting in running laptop-mode-tools twice. Most people once configure laptop-mode-tools to their liking and their hardware, so I think there is no need for such an extensive software like laptop-mode-tools, if something simpler does the same (or better) job.
Also laptop-mode-tools can conflict with pm-utils (which are installed on many systems as dependency for some packages):

  • Missing some voice guidance with hands free kit

I have found that the first few seconds of any voice guidance message is missing when I have my phone connected to my BT hands free kit.  This is normally the key bit "in xxx yards turn..." or even the entire speed warning.  It doesn't happen using the phone speaker.
I am using the Nokia HF-200 hands free box and the 'problem' has occurred with maps 3.03, 3.04 and 3.06.  I have tried my X6-16G (RM-559, V 31.0.004)and a 5230 Navi and both behave the same.
Does anybody know if a different hands free kit would solve the problem, or are they all slow to start up.  You don't notice it with calls because the ring tone seems to 'wake up' the HF-200 before the voice message starts.

You're lucky even to get navigation commands via car speakers which defeats the latest Nokia devices with Bluetooth carkits.
Don't want to misinform you but think that CK-300 with CarMenu application upon individual device was one of the few to achieve this but seems development stopped.

  • Voice over for tom tom gps whilst using bluetooth hands free

Is it possible to still have the voice over for the tom tom navigation whilst being connected to a bluetooth hands free kit? I also have another charging cradle which it does exactly the same thing. it's as if it deletes it when an accessory is connected.
    thanks

Yes that works, use the speakerphone mode. Some people report that the callers hear themselves via the car speakers and iPhone mic. It won't cost anything to try it and see if it meets your requirements.

  • Voice memos in iTunes don't sync to iPad

I've tried several times to sync voice memos from my macbook to my iPad (originally recorded on my iPhone) but without obvious success. All the right boxes are ticked. I'm assuming they should appear as a playlist in the music app? If not, where do I find them?

I have the same problem as Newfoster.
    Downloaded itunes 17th December 09'
    Got my Itouch 24th December.
Since 5th january, its been working excellent, photos and music syncing fine.
I decided to put some "free" applications on only.
    WoW Armory. WoW Authenificator.
I downloaded them. went onto Devices > Applications, And there i can see the 2 applications i downloaded. yet, the only thing on that page that responds in the "sync" button in the bottom right hand corner of that page, everything else wont let me click or move.
    Capacity: 7gb
    Availible: 3.4gb
    Version: 3.1.2 (7D11)
I hope i can find a solution fast, because im beginning to run in-patient with it. I've tried seeking advice from friends, but they have "jailbroken" ipods.
Also tried on a friends computer, app page wouldnt respond either.
    Many regards. Fergal.

  • Voice memo app not working

On the  iphone 5 when I click on the voice memos app it open and closes straight away.  When I have had this issues with other apps I can delete and reinstall them, however this is not possible to do with the voice memo app, does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this as I have installed a paid for voice memo app which is not as good.  Thanks

I had another breakthrough a couple of days ago.
In iTunes I changed my radio button selection from "Entire Music Library" to "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres" and instead chose to sync only a handful of artists and albums.  Since I did this I have had no problem using my voice memo app.
I don't know if there was some sort of conflict in the way old saved notes were syncing back onto it or if there is a problem with the voice app in which it malfulctions and crashes when there is low free space on the iPhone.  I went from my usual 1 GB or less of free space to around 9 GB of free space.
Anyways, just thought I'd share what I found.

  • My voice memos duplicate every iTunes sync and now takes up 3GB of my backup size and also from 'other', how do I delete them?

It seems since I got my iPhone 5, my voice memos get duplicated every time it syncs with iTunes.  There was only a few memos but a couple of them were rather large.  I have found this out by looking at my iTunes backup and find them in /media/recordings.  I have stopped them from duplicating by de-selecting them from iTunes, but now how can I delete these items from my phone to free up the space?  The best way I could think of is somehow remove them from my backup, then restore.  I use iCloud normally for backup so I am almost out of space.
I am using OS 10.8.2 with iTunes 11 and iOS 6.0.1

Update: iExplorer does support deleting voice memos. Received helpful product support email detailing how, even before I registered the product.
while you can delete voice memos where the actual files are stored in Media/Recordings (which is where you should see those missing voice memos), iExplorer 3 isn’t designed to delete them from your device since deleting them iniExplorer 3 won’t update the voice memo database on the device
It's still quite slow and crashes if you try to delete the entire list (I do 10 at a time now), but it works to delete memos that are not refered to any more within the Voice Memos app.
Still doesn't solve the Apple iTunes problem of duplicating SW, which appears to still be happening on a small scale, but I am recovering the Other data back to Free slowly.

  • Voice Memos - visually low decibel level

    Hi all,
I just bought a brand new iPhone 5s (coming with iOS 7.0.2) and I'm overall very happy with it. But when I opened the Voice Memos app and tried to record something I got a little bit worried that my mics might not be working properly or hopefully it's just a software thing.
First of all, I've already read quite a few threads both here and in the other forums about this app crashing down or not finalizing the recordings properly, I haven't tested it out yet. I have a different concern, when I tried to record my voice at a normal distance holding my iPhone in my hand streched out approximately 1.5 feet away from my mouth and speaking as I usually do (not too loud but kind of just like when having a conversation in a non-noisy environment), the waveform depicted in the app stayed almost flat which according to a scale on the right hand side means less -10 dB (or negative infinity as it would usually be gauged on professional sound equipment). I don't really think it's normal since the waveform is supposed to be useful for editing memos and it seems like the waveform will be visible either if the sound source is loud or close.
I'm particularly anxious for two reasons. Firstly, I often have to record stuff because I'm a student and a musician so I really need my mics to work properly. Secondly, I've had bad experiences with mics on other Apple devices. At some point the mic on my iPad 2 became very insensitive. I almost had to put it an inch away from my mouth for it to be able to record anything. Then I learned that vacuuming the mic helps but only for a while. It couldn't be judt dust or anything because at some point it would suddenly relapse into this condition the following day without gradually becoming less sensitive, it was just a snap and it wouldn't work well. Then something similar happened on my iPod 4th gen but I didn't even try to vacuum it. I dropped both of these devices but this problem appeared on my iPad befor that I believe. So I'm really worried about these mics problems being a seemingly common issue with Apple devices.
So I was wondering if anyone has similar problems/concerns. I haven't tried recording something really loud maybe such calibration will come handy. In my trial of the app I could hear the recorded sound (as if coming from a distance but quite passable). So I hope it's a software calibration rather than a hardware issue. I decided to carry out a test and since the volume of the sound is a difficult thing to reproduce in the exact same conditions I tried to set it up so that some of you might be able to repeat it if you want to compare our results. So I bought 'Blurred Lines' by R. Thicke on iTunes, a popular song these days, playbacked it on my iPod 4th gen at maximum volume (oops just realized I have an iPod volume limit set up at about 75%) placed at various distances from my iPhone 5s so that the iPod's top faces the iPhone's bottom.
    Here are the results:
1 foot away - negative infinity
8 inch - almost the same
    4 inch - topping at -10 dB
    2 inch - -7 dB
0 inch (almost touching each other) - -3 dB sometimes going up to 0.
And by the way in the right hand corner there's a speaker sign which I assume means recording with a bottom mic for calling or the mic that's near the camera. The results are basically the same. And one more thing, when recording videos I get clear sound.
So if you got to the end of this post I know my experiment is kind of complicated, I just like to have this scientific approach. You can try to repeat it if you have time and can set up all the same conditions but otherwise any opinion/information will be very welcome.
    Thanks in advance!

For iphon 5 after the last update, to listen to your recored voice memos, you have to tab the speaker symbol on the upper right corner of the file page. You can also use the bluetooth or headphone to listen to your recordings.
