Hangparas environment in LaTeX (hanging.sty)

I'm trying to make a list of references for a paper in APA format - incidentally, the same one I talk about in a couple of other posts. I know this can be done with BibTeX somehow, but I'm not quite there yet At any rate, I don't have a huge list.
The problem is, although I've tried to make use of the hangparas environment in hanging.sty (e.g. \begin{hangparas}{.5in}{1} ... \end{hangparas} instead of \hangpara{.5in}{1} for each separate paragraph), only the first paragraph is indented properly, upon compiling; the rest are flush left.
Instead of posting my entire paper, I made a separate file with just the reference page to demonstrate this:
\documentclass{report}
\usepackage[margin=1in]{geometry}
\usepackage{hanging}
\usepackage{setspace}
\usepackage{ragged2e}
\usepackage{url}
\hyphenpenalty=10000
%% Define a new 'leo' style for the package that will use a smaller font.
\makeatletter
\def\url@leostyle{%
\@ifundefined{selectfont}{\def\UrlFont{\sf}}{\def\UrlFont{\small\ttfamily}}}
\makeatother
%% Now actually use the newly defined style.
\urlstyle{leo}
\begin{document}\setlength{\RaggedRightParindent}{.5in}\RaggedRight\doublespacing

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance: I'm learning a lot.

P.S. Note that when I use \hangpara{.5in}{1} exclusively, it works as expected; but it doesn't seem as convenient as the other method, assuming it would work.

Don't worry about it I thought that I might have to bump the thread artificially, just to get a response, so I'm happy that I didn't have to do that.
Maybe you can help me out after all: I made a post on apa.cls a while back, but nobody seemed to know the answer.
The code for the title page looked something like this:
\documentclass[man,12pt,nobf]{apa}
\title{Borderline Personality Disorder: Key Features and Their Impact on the Social \& Emotional Well-Being of Patients and Others}
\author{Harry Bellemare}
\rightheader{Impact of Borderline Personality Disorder}
\shorttitle{Borderline Personality Disorder}
\affiliation{(Course code) \\ Instructor: Name \\ \today}
\begin{document}
\maketitle
\end{document}
The problem was, I needed it to look as close to this file as possible. At that point, I was even just thinking in terms of the title page. I forget exactly how it typesets with apa.cls, but I believe the running head is in the wrong spot, as well as some other small issues.
This is what I ended up doing for the title page (with the preamble):
\documentclass[letterpaper,12pt]{report}
\usepackage[margin=1in]{geometry}
\usepackage{fancyhdr}
\usepackage{ragged2e}
\usepackage{setspace}
\usepackage{hanging}
\usepackage{url}
\pagestyle{fancy}
\renewcommand{\headrulewidth}{0pt}
\fancyhead[R]{Borderline Personality Disorder\hspace{1em}\thepage}
\fancyfoot{}
\hyphenpenalty=10000
%% Define a new 'leo' style for the url package that will use a smaller font.
\makeatletter
\def\url@leostyle{%
\@ifundefined{selectfont}{\def\UrlFont{\sf}}{\def\UrlFont{\small\ttfamily}}}
\makeatother
%% Now actually use the newly defined style.
\urlstyle{leo}
\begin{document}
Running head: \MakeUppercase{impact of borderline personality disorder}
\vspace*{\fill}
\doublespacing
\begin{center}

\end{document}
Obviously, apa.cls would make things much easier for me, if only I could figure out how to make it work the way I wanted it to. Certainly, there's a lot less code involved
I've just reuploaded the results I got from my original attempt at using apa.cls: http://ifile.it/t7d3aqm
I appreciate all of the help!

  • Unable to join environment message  and hanging when opening / closing db

    HI ,
    I got the above error message when trying to open the environment.
    Note that before opening I tried closing the db process but it hanged so I killed the process.
    Another phenomenon I got with another database that was about 20 Gigas is that opening hanged, without any error message, for a long time (about 4 hours ) and only then was successfully open.
    So my question is twofold -
    1. What might be the reason for the hang in closing / opening - note that there was no reading/ writing activity on the database.
    2. How should "unable to join the environment message be handled ?
    Maybe this could help diagnose the issue of low opening - the environment folder is filled with many log files created by berkeley db when adding data. Can these files be removed ?
    thanks !!

  • Detecting a valid X11Graphics Environment ? - java hangs.

    Does anyone know a way that a java program can validate its graphics environment before making using calls in java.awt? I am asking because I am finding that a call to java.awt.GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment() is hanging; it doesn't throw an exception - it just never returns. Here is a simple test program that illustrates the problem :
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    System.out.println("Getting Graphics Environment...");
    try {
    GraphicsEnvironment ge = GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment();
    // The following line is never reached
    System.out.println("Environment retrieved successfully");
    } catch (Throwable t) {
    // The following line is never reached
    t.printStackTrace(System.out);
    I am making the call on a Sunfire box running SunOs 5.1, java version 1.5.0_10. without an X Windows Server running. I fully appreciate that starting the X Windows Server solves the problem. Also setting java.awt.headless=true will make it return.
    However I wish my program to detect when an X Server is not active (with headless false) and issue a warning about the invalid graphics environment, rather than making a call that hangs and leaves the user confused as to why.
    I have determined that the hang occurs during the class initialize of a "sun.awt.X11GraphicsEnvironment", I suspect in the initDisplay() method,
    but I am confused as to why it hangs; can anyone explain this behaviour? If it threw an exception I could catch this with a simple test call and warn the user that the environment is incorrectly configured before proceeding further.
    I would be very grateful for any help.

    Hi Agnieszka,
    You won't find any clean up procedures in the VB / C# examples, because they usually only consume a single document or item or business partner.
    The problem starts occurring when you consume a lot of documents (etc) in a loop. At that point the COM connection becomes "over worked", and you will get crashes.
    When you do clean up / garbage collecting with the DI API, you need to specifically release the COM connections. I am guessing that you are now just specifically disposing of objects. Strangely that is not enough with the DI API.
    Here is the code I use. It is VB.NET, so you willl have to translate it to JAVA:
    Public Sub CreateDoc
            'Create and consume the document (an order in this example)
            oDocument = oCompany.GetBusinessObject(BoObjectTypes.oOrders)
            'Populate properties etc.
            'Add the document
            oDocument.Add()
            'Dispose of the document
            CleanUp(oDocument)
    End Sub
    Public Sub CleanUp(ByVal Obj As Object)
            Try
                If Not Obj Is Nothing Then
                    'The following two lines are the key piece of code
                    System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ReleaseComObject(Obj)
                    Obj = Nothing
                End If
                IsDisposed = True
            Catch ex As Exception
                LOG("The object " & Obj.ToString & " was not released properly." & e & ex.Message)
            End Try
    End Sub
    But if you are already doing this, then I don't know either...
    Good luck,
    Johan

  • Squashfs mount hangs in initrd environment

    When trying to mount a gzip-compressed squashfs from file in the initrd environment mount process hangs with no messages. Nothing in dmesg. Judging by the sound, it takes 100% CPU. Control-c does nothing, but kill (SIGTERM, I presume) from another vt works and the process (or shell?) produces a short message, "Terminated" or similar. Squashfs module is preloaded. Tried copying the file being mounted into RAM first and mounting from there — same result. Hangs even if a nonexisting FS type is given on the command line. Same with -o loop.
    Reading from the file in initrd environment works. Mounting that same file in a fully booted Arch system works.
    What could possibly be wrong?

    If you know how to debug it, please provide me with instructions. Though I only have limited bash and Lua experience.
    Edit:
    Aha, the initrd's mount is a function in busybox, not the mount(8) program, so it might be a busybox bug.
    Will try using mount(8) instead tomorrow.

  • Kpsewhich hangs

    I'm trying to install texlive-most on my system, and I get to this:
    ( 1/17) upgrading texlive-core [########################################################] 100%
    Then there's a long pause while kpsewhich hogs a whole bunch of CPU time, then I see this
    mktexlsr: Updating /opt/texlive/texmf/ls-R...
    mktexlsr: Updating /opt/texlive/texmf-dist/ls-R...
    mktexlsr: Updating /opt/texlive/texmf-local/ls-R...
    mktexlsr: Updating /opt/texlive/texmf-var/ls-R...
    mktexlsr: Updating /var/tmp/texfonts/ls-R...
    mktexlsr: Done.
    And then the install process hangs pretty completely (5+ min), and top shows me that kpsewhich is eating all the available CPU time on one of my cores.
    I tried to figure out what it does, so I ran "kpsewhich --help," got the help message, and then it hung right after
    Recognized format names and their suffixes:
    It did eventually print the list, though.  So there seems to be an issue with kpsewhich, can anyone help diagnose it?  I'm running i686
    I did an strace on it, and got this:
    stat64("/home/ryan/installers/sage-2.8.15/local/lib/python2.5/symtable.py", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=7710, ...}) = 0

    It seems to be doing a stat64 on pretty much every file it can find, which can't be right.  Any help?
    [edit]
    Ok, I installed tetex instead, but running latex hangs, and it's doing the same damn dance: running a stat on every single file it can get its hands on.
    They both seem to be looking for the file .texmf-config, I tried creating an empty one in my home directory to get it to shut up, but it keeps on going.

    Ok, I found the problem:  my home directory in /etc/passwd had a trailing slash.  Removing that and a relogin fixed the problem.
    Is this my mistake when using the useradd script?

  • IMovie HD ruined my iLife

    I've been working on a project which is a combination of DV footage, archived video (from archive.org - 256kb MPEG4) and video recorded off the phone (in 3gp format). The version I'm editing is now toast thanks to iMovie HD, and the backup is not previewing, so I'm worried it's not really there.
    In the latest interactions with my final cut, iMovie's apparently destroyed all of the video and audio for the whole project, turning it into an unplayable choppy mess. Even the clips which weren't operated on in the last operation are now screwed.
    The project was toasted following the execution of an audio extraction on specifically selected video clips. Most of the other clips already had audio extracted previously, (painfully though without mishap). However, all audio and video is now unable to be played smoothly.
    Only a few clips (< 4 mins total) were selected for this final operation which scrapped the project file.
    The objective of the extraction was to be able to level up the audio from the different forms of vid, as I can visualise the audio levels on extracted audio, and not on regular video clips.
    The result, not only was all of the extracted video and audio choppy, but the whole project is now corrupted, with every video frame and audio waveform unplayable within iMovie. Haven't even tried to extract it to DVD in this state. Have to present it to 250 people tomorrow on DVD. I'm less than happy.
    What should I be doing? Just want to have video with level audio - should it be this hard? Should I just not be using iMovie for anything more complex than a 1 minute piece (this is 10 minutes). Hope I can recover the data.
    THE BACKUP
    The backup I previously took appears to be there (happily taking up 8.71 Gig of disk space anyway) and was the original form from which the working (and previously viewable) version was taken.
    However, even this now, when played from my firewire backup drive at least, shows as a blank white screen with no audio whenever you try to preview it. I'm assuming that's not there either. However, this will hopefully be fixed by moving it into its original location (are file addresses not relative for iMovie HD?).
    I'm hoping that I can recover a version from the original package in some way, even if it's just recovering the DV clips themselves, which still seem to be there in the package, into a professional editing program like Final Cut Pro. Hopefully a friend will be able to save the day with his copy later this eve.
    THE BACK STORY
    After much pain with iMovie HD on a Powerbook previously, I achieved the final cut, and even succeeded to burn a DVD. None of this was easy. iMovie bombing out when you change the resolution to try and make views bigger (tiny thumbnails you can't recognise). iMovie chugging when you try to extract audio, iDVD exporting with chapters being impossible, mysterious.
    I'm getting really bad results from iMovie HD generally. Regular beach balls entertain me when doing practically anything, including navigating through the timeline.
    I'm running it as installed by default on a MacBook Pro 2GHz dual core with 2 Gig of memory. Even a video editing program shouldn't have resourcing problems in this environment, but regularly hangs.

  • Beware the evils of ATM

    As most of you know I was having problems getting escript to connect to
    local environments on a UNIX 9000 ver. B.10.20 Central Server. The jist of
    the story is I could use escript to connect
    to any environment on another similar UNIX Central Server, but when going
    to a local environment it would hang up on the trace line just before the
    escript> prompt.
    We found the problem was with the configuration of an ATM network card. Our
    Network Guru's explained it to me this way:
    By default ATM uses Classical IP. I am told the main difference between
    Classical IP and what ethernet uses is Classical IP has a larger packet
    size. ATM could be configured to use ELAN which is supposed to be more in
    line with ethernet. I am told that ELAN may or may not fix the problem, we
    are not sure. We are going to take the
    "If it is not broken don't fix it"
    approach and stick with ethernet. To-date network speed has not been an
    issue. If in the future we find that we need the speed that comes with ATM
    we may experiment with ATM and ELAN then.
    PS
    If anyone out there use a similar UNIX box as a Central Server with ATM and
    ELAN I'd like to know how everything is working.

  • Performance withand without  PNP?

    Hi,
    There is a Z program which has logical database PNP but there is no GET statement for it. Instead of GET Statement there are SELECT statements to get records and it works fine. You can say PNP is used for the selection screen.
    But when we run in Production environment program gets hanged.
    I was wondering if it is because of Mix and match of LDB and Select statements.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.

    I guess u'r query is having appent itab between select & endselect.It leads to lot of ABAp execution time.Try using macro rp_providefrom_last....

    After named server and siebel server are started up successfully, I tried to access the call center 'http://<server_ip>/callcenter_enu/'. It hangs for almost half an hour, and 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' error reports.
    *[Detailed information]*
    I used automation tools to setup the siebel environment which is also used by other guys. They never face such issue.
    I'm sure that siebel server is launched successfully and all the components are started up without any error.

    I aslo set the log level to 5, but no related log is created.
    I also checked the ActiveX is enable, and I can access other call center whose siebel server is on other machines.

  • Query Region Rendering Issue between RUP4 and RUP5 Env.

    Dear OAF gurus
    We currently face an issue with a custom built OAF query region, where the regions works perfectly well, i.e. the page renders in a timely fashion with all its fields in one Apps environment (Dev) and then “Hangs and eventually times-out” in another environment (SysTest).
    Clearly this leads us to believe that there must be an issue with the environment configuration and/or patch/product levels, namely the OAF tech-stack.
    The Development Env. where this is working:
    ===========================================
    OAF Version : 11.5.10 RUP 4.
    MDS Version : 9.0.5.4.89 (build 555)
    UIX Version : 2.2.24
    BC4J Version: 9.0.3.13.93
    The System Test Env. where this is NOT working:
    ===========================================
    OAF Version : 11.5.10 RUP 5.
    MDS Version : 9.0.5.4.89 (build 555)
    UIX Version : 2.2.24.1.0
    BC4J Version: 9.0.3.13.97
    As you can see there are differences in Rollup Patches and OAF platform.
    The System Test Environment is clearly a head of the Development environment and this is where we are facing the issue. If we patch the Development environment to the same level as the Test, then the issue will manifest itself in both environments. The client will be going live with RUP5 or higher.
    The offending region is has the following structure:
    The parent/root page is : XxxMyQueyRegionRN, which is a “defaultSingleColumn” Region Style with its own controller class.
    Immediately under the above region there is a “query” region style child, which has the following attributes:
    Construction Mode : resultBasedSearch
    Include Simple Panel : False
    Include Views Panel : False
    Include Advanced Panel : True
    Initial Panel : advanced
    Show Views Panel Control: True
    The above Query Region has underneath it a “table” region style, which essentially is the results table.
    This table node has a number of “messageStyledText” fields under it. Each field is mapped to a VO and VO attribute.
    A number of these items have their “Search Allowed” property set to True, which means that are search-able fields in the Search Panel.
    There is nothing special or extraordinary about the above region and yet it renders in one environment and then hangs (i.e. the page times-out) in another. How do I know it is this specific region that causes the time-out? well when I take it out of the parent Page, the page works fine in both environments and as soon as include it, it times-out.
    Has anyone encountered this issue before? Has the OAF technology changed between RUP 4 and RUP5 sufficiently, so that certain custom pages will have to be re-developed?
    Any help and Guidance is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Patrice.

    Patrick,
    Check the apache log to see if contains any error or whether it lists the process which is taking so much time to lead to timeouts.
    In case you have a blind query based search result table population on page rendering, try to render the page without the query execution.

  • R Distribution 2.15.1 for Solaris x64

    Hi,
    I have tried to install the R Distribution for Solaris x64 on my test box (as preparation to production upgrade).

    Despite the errors i did extract supporting libraries to $LD_LIBRARY_PATH and to my surprise i was able to start R without an error:

    I don't understand what those errors received during installation mean. What could be a reason for? A fix?
    Do you think i could safely ignore them?
    Any help much appreciated.
    Regards,
    PS. I have a flash of enlightenment. Are those <svrtech> and <aime> in error messages a group and an user name of the account the package was prepared with (or something like that)??

  • Missed calls when caller abandons?

    Hi everyone. First time posting, so I'm not sure if there is a particular format I'm supposed to be using or not, so my apologies in advance. I have a queue that takes a caller, selects a resource, puts the call on hold, gets the agent extension of the selected agent, places a call to the agent, plays a prompt that tells them the customer company name, terminates, and then connects the caller. My issue is that if the caller hangs up while the prompt is being played to the agent, because an agent has already been selected, it shows up as a missed call in the agent statistics, even though it's been abandoned. Additionally, depending on where in the process the caller hangs up, the agent gets a second call saying there was a problem with the phone system. The customer experiences normal behavior while queued and when an agent is selected. I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can give. Thanks!
    Ian

    Hi Aaron,
    Your suggestion is actually the first thing I recommended to my boss, however she had this "whisper" functionality at her previous workplace where they used avaya, and she's the driving force behind it. The script works as intended, except for the missed call scenario. Out of curiosity, do you know if, in a typical uccx environment, a caller hanging up while the agent phone is ringing shows up as a missed call, and if there is any way to change that? It's basically the same situation...Thanks for your reply.

  • View logfile or view output hangs in 3 node environment

    Hi All,
    Briefing the environment:
    Database -- ERPDB001
    Conc + admin -- APPS001
    Forms + web -- APPS002
    Some times when we try to see view log or view output after running the Concurrent requests. The system seems like hanging and it will display following error after. If you check in the next minute, it will show the output/logfile. looks like a strange behavior
    "An error occurred while attempting to establish an Application File Server connection with the node APPS001. There may be a network configuration problem, or the TNS listener on node APPS001 may not be running, Please contact your system administrator."
    Is this the Oracle Apps issue or the network issue between two node.
    Regards

  • Berkeley  DB JE is getting hanged while calling environment sync method.

    Hi,
    I am developing an application in Java and I am using JE edition of Berkeley. I am facing an issue, during shutdown operation I am calling syn method of EntityStore class and Environment class.
    The EntityStore.sync() is getting completed but during executing of Environment.sync() the control is not coming out of this statement. Below is the code that I am using to perform sync operation.
    if (myEnv != null) {
    try {
    entityStore.sync(); //Calling sync method of Entity Store Class.
    log.error("Finished Syncing of Entity Store");
    myEnv.sync(); // Calling Sync method of Environment Class. Control is not coming out of this sync call.
    log.error("Finished Syncing of Environment");
    } catch (DatabaseException dbe) {
    log.error("DataBase exception duing close operation ",dbe);
    } catch (IllegalStateException ie) {
    logger.fatal("Cursor not closed: ", ie);
    During my unit testing I was changing system date and perfoming some db operation. While I during down the application the the above code gets executed but the system is getting hanged and control is not coming out of Environment sync method call. Can some one tell why the sync is causing the system to hang.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
    You did not mention the version of BDB JE. In any case for BDB JE questions the correct forum is at:
    Berkeley DB Java Edition
    Thanks,
