It is december and i have had my Creative nomad zen xtra 40 gb since july. In this extremely short period of time i have already had to send my player in to get fixed because my display was not working. So, after getting it back about three weeks ago i am having a hardware problem. when i turn the player on the screen is frozen, and it shows a very distorted picture saying hardware problem. unless someone can tell me how to go about fixing it i am going to have to send it in again. my friend has also had to send hi player in about three times. to those looking to buy an mp3 player from creative i strongly discourage it. it has been nothing but problems for me and several people i know. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Firstly, the warranty varies depending where you bought it. I have an NJB3 that's around 3 years old, and an NJB that's around 4 years old. Both are still working fine, as is my Zen Micro of 2+ month years old.
To suggest that something made in a certain country, or not in a certain country, means it's poorer quality is also ridiculous.

    Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

  • Failed Hardware Scan and other issues E440

    Hi all,
    This is probably more rant than anything, but I wanted to give a heads up to others too.
    I have a ThinkPad E440 that is a year old. From the very first time I turned it on, there have been issues. The first hardware scan (via Lenovo Solution Center - LSC) showed a warning for the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 Local Connection Test. There were also tons of System Events that always show up in the "Configuration History" part of the LSC. You can look at the calendar and tell exactly which days I used the computer because there will be System Events generated each day. Things like app crashes and failed drivers.
    In July 2014, I got the first warning for the 16 GB SSD - the SMART Short Self-Test. By February this year it showed as failed for each hardware scan (these were initially set up to run monthly).
    Also the whole time I've had it the touch screen would just stop working at some point and I would have to reboot to get it working again.
    I finally called Lenovo on March 30th, before my warranty expired. When I called that time, I didn't realize the hard drive failure was the SSD. So they sent me a new 500 GB drive. I also added the other things into the case when I talked to them. For the wireless issue they suggested making sure the driver was up to date. I did this and let them know when I called back that it was up to date and still having the warning. So I called them to tell them to tell them about the wireless and also that I realized it was the SSD having the failure, not the main drive. The first case had already been closed even though none of the other items were addressed.
    So they opened another case (this is #2). They said to mail them the laptop since the wireless issue would probably be on the board and it wasn't something I could fix myself. They sent a box with a prepaid overnight shipping label. I was very sick for a few days so I sent it back to them on April 10th (a Friday). Via UPS I saw it was delivered on Saturday. Work was performed on it Monday, April 13th and sent back to me that very day. I received it on April 14th. This part of the service has been excellent - very fast response.
    Being in IT, I included a letter with the laptop that outlined the issues that should have been in the case. I also printed the hardware scans and what the system events looked like.
    When I got the laptop back, the sheet inside said they had replaced the Speaker because of Distorted Sound. This was not even on the list even though I had noticed it. I didn't even power up the laptop before calling them again - yes, I was furious! Plus our power was out...
    So this was noon on the 14th. They opened case #3 and sent me ANOTHER BOX so I could send it back.
    After our power came back on the 15th, I powered up my laptop. I opened the browser (I have it set to restore the previous session) and there was a sexually explicit video on YouTube. I opened the other browser and there was a different video on YouTube. So this person was watching YouTube instead of fixing my laptop. I looked through both browser histories and there was quite a bit of activity while my laptop was at the repair center... I ran the hardware scan - still failed and a warning for the wireless. They really hadn't done anything.
    I also found two pictures of the repair person in the recycle bin...
    So I called back. I was LIVID! They opened another case (this is #4). And sent me ANOTHER BOX. I finally learned the other day that once a case is opened, it cannot be edited or added to at all. Instead, they close the other case and open a new one. I guess their turnaround time for closing cases is excellent! I've never seen a system like that - and I've used a lot of them.
    I got a really nice, patient fellow on the line. He took all my info (again). I emailed him the pictures, screen captures of the YouTube videos, the letter I had sent - everything. He entered as much into the new case as he could - he talked to one of the supervisors to make sure he did it right. Somehow he flagged it so that the laptop would get more attention (time) at the repair facility. He also opened a separate case (an escalation ticket?) for a supervisor to call me regarding the person's conduct at the repair facility. He said they would call me that day. (It's now the 25th and I've never heard from anyone)
    So, he sent me ANOTHER BOX. I've built up quite a stack of them.
    Our power was out AGAIN from the 17th through the 19th (don't get me started).
    I noticed a hardware scan had now gotten a failure on the main hard drive. So I called them on the 21st to add this to the case before sending the laptop back. The girl said they can't add anything to an existing case or edit it at all once it's opened. She would have to open a new case and SEND ME ANOTHER BOX. I told her to forget it because I was ready to send it in and didn't want to wait for another box. I also asked for a status on that "escalation case" where the supervisor was supposed to call me. In order to do this she, yes, wait for it, had to open ANOTHER CASE!! So they would know I wanted a status. I'm completely dumbfounded.
    So I sent it back on the 21st. This time I practically wiped it. I had already removed all my files the last time, but I had left my bookmarks and browser history intact.  I set up a guest logon with admin privileges. I updated my letter and printed off more stuff to include with the box. On one sheet I had only the case number, the serial number and machine type. On another sheet I had "DO NOT SEPARATE THIS PAPERWORK FROM THE LAPTOP" and the case number. I put this sheet on top (The guy on the 15th said my letter and stuff may have gotten separated from the laptop once it was delivered to the repair facility). I used a ton of staples so it would all stay together. I included in my letter the failure on the main hard drive and asked if they could look at it. I wrote about having to open a new case if I wanted to include it.
    They received it on the 22nd. A nice gentleman from the repair facility called me that day asking about the password. that. was. written. on the sheet they have you fill out. I told him what happened last time and also mentioned the hard drive failure and asked if he could look into it. He said they would.
    I received my laptop back yesterday morning.The sheet that came with it said they had "replaced the following parts to complete the repair of your laptop."

    There was also a sheet saying they had installed a factory preload of software and I needed to install Lenovo and Windows updates.
    When I booted it up, the first thing I noticed, in the lower right corner was:
    Windows 8.1
    SecureBoot isn’t configured correctly
    Build 9600
    I ran a hardware scan. Well, I tried. It stopped part way through and said it finished successfully but most of the tasks showed up as cancelled. I tried to run it again - issues - rebooting ensued. It said the LSC wasn’t available and that I should try again or reboot.
    Tried several times. Then got what I guess is the new BSOD - kinder, gentler:
    Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just
    collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you. (xx% complete)

    Even though the LSC said my Lenovo files were all up to date, I ran the Update. And first I had to download a new version of Update. Then I downloaded all of the Lenovo updates and installed them (there were quite a few). The BIOS update failed. While I was doing the Lenovo downloads, I got a light blue screen but no text (I was out of the room so I'm not sure what happened). Did CTRL-ALT-DEL and it shows only IE and Task Manager as applications that are running. Could not “Switch to” IE. Hitting window key to go to start didn't do anything. So I had to restart.
    By 3pm yesterday there were 34 system events in the configuration history.
    I ran the hardware scan again after I updated the Lenovo files, and you guessed it! Failure on the SSD (SMART Short Self-Test) and warning on the wireless. Nothing had changed. Except hardware scan is acting different than it did before I sent in the laptop for repairs. When it finishes, it instantly closes and just shows 100% complete. When I click on "see last results" it shows a screen called

    And the calendar in LSC only shows the very first hardware scan I did on Friday. Even the hardware scan screen shows the date and time of the last scan. It also shows the error code. In order to see exactly what is failing, I have to sit there and watch it very closely and snap a picture of the screen as soon as the error (or warning) shows up.
    When I would try to run Windows update, it would hang up PC Settings. I couldn't even kill it using task manager because it didn't show up as a task. During this, I got a flag saying the firewall wasn't turned on. I tried to turn it on, but clicking on Turn on Windows Firewall didn't do anything. I tried to setup my Microsoft account but that just hung too.
    I ended up running Windows Update FOUR TIMES to get all the updates installed. Every time I ran it, it said "Done!" and I would run it again and more would show up. The last time was this morning.
    At some point, the error about SecureBoot went away.
    Then, I created a bootable BIOS update disk. Following the ReadMe instructions, I went through ThinkPad Setup and verified several values. Of note:
    Secure Boot was DISABLED. According to the ReadMe file, this should be ENABLED in Windows 8.1. I enabled it.
    Under Startup/Boot, according to the ReadMe that came with the BIOS update, UEFI/Legacy Boot is supposed to be set at UEFI Only for Windows 8.1. Mine was set to "Both". I changed it.
    In Startup, OS Optimized Defaults was DISABLED, even though it says right there (and in the BIOS update ReadMe) it should be ENABLED to meet Microsoft Windows 8 Certification Requirement.
    After these updates, I flashed the new BIOS.
    Then, I ran hardware scan again...
    Now I have TWO failures on the SSD: Random Seek Test and SMART Short Self-Test. Great.
    In the Event Viewer (that I recently discovered), it says my disk has a bad block. It just says The device, \Device\Harddisk\DR1, has a bad block. I assume this is the SSD...
    There are 867 events in the event viewer - Critical, Error, and Warning...
    Fifty-two of these are from October 7, 2013 - before my little laptop was a glimmer.
    The rest are from when Lenovo had it and yesterday and today.
    64 of them are the disk error.
    341 are from DeviceSetupManager. 65 of those are from failed driver installs. 69 are for not being able to establish a connection to the windows update service. 64 are from not being able to establish a connection to the Windows Metadata and Internet Services (WMIS).
    3 times it's rebooted without cleanly shutting down
    60 of them are from Service Control Manager and say The TDKLIB service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.
    One of them says {Registry Hive Recovered} Registry hive (file): '\??\C:\Users\Default\NTUSER.DAT' was corrupted and it has been recovered. Some data might have been lost.
    16 are warnings that various processors in Group 0 are being limited by system firmware.
    12 say the certificate for local system with thumbprint <bunch of hex numbers> is about to expire or already expired.
    108 are warnings for failure to load the driver \Driver\WUDFRd for various devices
    16 are application errors
    One is for the computer rebooting from a "bug check"
    15 are for name resolutions timing out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.
    10 are for SecureBoot being disabled.
    14 for services terminating unexpectedly
    15 are for WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped
    61 are for applications not being able to be restarted because the application SID does not match Conductor SID
    12 are for activation of CLSID timing out waiting for the service wuauserv to stop
    So, I'll call them on Monday and open. a. new. case (#5?) - but really 7. And get A NEW BOX.

  • NB200-125 General Hardware ( Screen and HD ) issues

    Hi All,
    My wife's NB200-125 is about 18 months old and has in the last few weeks be exhibiting some strange problems. It started out with a boot failier where windows XP failed to boot, having tried to boot in both normal mode and safe mode a few times I tried plugging it in to make sure it wasn't a battery issue, plugging it in helped and I managed to get it booted and ran chkdisk which found a bunch of Hard drive errors which it fixed and it's now booting ok, a few files were lost but that could just be chkdisk deleting HD sectors.
    Now in the last 2 days there have been 2 occasions where the screen has gone "blank" firstly to a black screen, and then the second time to a green screen.
    Does anyone have any pointers as to where to look to fix it? I thought a HD change would sort it until these screen errors.
    Any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Of course these problems can be hardware related but before you ask an authorized service provider you should try a recovery installation to factory settings. Maybe Windows was muddled up due to the previous issues so a reinstallation would help.
    So take the recovery medium and boot from it. Follow the screen instructions and restore out of box settings.
    If still doesnt help its really hardware related issue and it can be fixed from an authorized service provider.

  • Dreamweaver CS5 crashes in split screen and other cases

    EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!!
    It's affecting my productivity.
    I'm running SP2 to Enterprise Vista
    CS5 will open just fine. It will open a plain HTML file just fine. but then when I go to split screen and click on the design window I find that it hasn't completely painted the whole of the code into the design portion... in other words it has painted like half the page... and now that I've clicked on the design portion it will crash. The same will happen in reverse... if I'm already on the design window and click over to source it will crash.
    I have checked my code thinking maybe there is something drastically wrong with the code that is confusing DW, but isn't that what DW is for?? to be able to edit code that doesn't work right as well as build pages and sites? I shouldn't have to go and check code in another editor. Regardless, the problem remained. (In the words of the great pessimist, Charlie Brown, "Good grief!")
    Any ideas?! BTW, I had CS5 installed before and just had to recently re-image my HD. It worked fine before with the same information as above... the only difference being that my previous CS5 was an upgrade from CS4. My new install is a direct install into CS5.

    There are cache files and other system files that are created every time a user account is created.  Sometimes these are corrupted in the OS and it really has no bearing on the specific application but it can lead to erratic behavior.  Creating a new user recreates all these system files and thus it's almost like starting fresh.  It's one step shy of re-installation of an OS.  So because changing the user fixed the issue, then we have eliminated the fact that the application is causing the error and we know the OS is causing the error.
    I can't just go in to that profile when I want to use?
    I wouldn't recommend it.  This can lead to more problems with the OS down the road with other applications and depending on where the corruption lies it can lead to issues with OS upgrades or even installing new software.  The files that are typically most critical to users are stored in the Applications folder or the Documents/Sites/Pictures folders.  You can easily drag them over to a new user account.  If you have email being backed up for a product like Thunderbird you can also bring over many of the Library items as well.

  • Changing the LOCK screen. and other q's.

    Is it possible to change the NAME that appears or even remove the name that appears at the bottom of a locked screen.
    Eg, I would like Admin Team to appear instead of my login (DAN), which is currently appearing.
    Also is there a way of browsing the computer's HD's.
    Under the TAKE CONTROL bit, my users can still move their mice and type with their keyboards, and the same with the SHARE control :S
    How can I sort it out so that I just CONTROL without user's having access?
    Another thing that I would like (not sure if this is possible...) is to lock user's screens with the PADLOCK and a bit of text, as per normal, but for me to still control their computers BEHIND the lockout?
    So for admin tasks that I can't carry out using the programs built in functions, (or I just don't know how to do it using these functions) lock out the user, and do the administrating manually, but remotely.
    Hope you understand.
    I'm currently trying this out on a very small network at home (5-10 macs), with the intention to get my organisation to deploy it.

    1) I am not aware of a way to change the name in the lock message. As you've discovered, that is added to any message you send.
    2) The best way to "browse the hard drive" would be to take control of the machine and do so via a control session.
    3) There is a preference in the control/observe settings panel of the Remote Destop preferences to share control or take absolute control of the client.
    4) It is not currently possible to lock the screen and take control "behind the lockout".

    i woke up this morning to my ipad flashing between the lock screen and a black screenwith the little white loading circle in the middle i cannot unlock the screen or turn off the ipad- help!!!!

  • Lock screen and other app stuck on zoomed mode

    I noticed that my lock screen is stuck on zoomed mode. When I'm in my home screen it's in standard view. Also I'm having the same issue with my apps. Apps like Pinterest, Tumblr, Swarm, Twitter looks fine but other apps like Facebook and Instagram are all stuck on zoomed mode. How do i fix this?

  • Dead Screen and other Problems

    Hello,
    I have a friend that has an 30GB IPod that will not turn on.
    the Serial No. is 4W6037ZJTXK.
    Model # is A1136
    What is happening is I turn the switch at the top on and with just battery it is dead, but when I connect the USB charger cable, it will blink and then power down. There is nothing showing up on the screen, it just flashes and dies.
    It was didn't get wet or was dropped to my knowledge.
    The warranty is up so sending it back to Apple is not an option. (unless I am over looking something)
    Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Turned out it was a bad DVI port on my Macbook Pro. Logic board replaced and issue fixed.

  • My MBP 2011 w Lion freezes after sleep with blue screen and other sleep issues

    My MBP v2 of 2011 line with Lion on it freezes occassionally (maybe 1 out of 10 awakenings from sleep) where the screen is blue and only way to make it stop is to hold the power button and restart.
    Another issue I have is I'll come out of sleep, and the wallpaper on my screen disappears, and I just see a gray background.  If I go to Monitor preferences, it claims the wallpaper is set to my normal background.  Restarting has the background display again.
    Note: I often use a external monitor, so good chance these freezing issues happen when I unplug/plug in the external monitor (via DVI cable to DisplayPort converter to MBP)
    Today I had a slightly different experience with the freezing.  It had my second monitor have a bunch of pixelated garbage and a message about holding power button down and restarting.  I restarted, and got a "your system has crashed unexpectedly" like message, so I told it to send the data to Apple.

    I used to have that problem as well, try going to system preferences and having the computer require a password after waking, worked for me.

    1. when i try to listen to songs my ipod stops playing the music and goes back to the home page. i dont touch anything, it just does it.
    2.my battery will be fully charged then i will push the sleep button or turn it off and when i turn it back on the battery is alomst gone.
    3.how do i take songs off my ipod when it is on manual without take off all my songs then reloading them?

    Boy oh boy....I can relate to No. 1. My iTouch does the same thing. I am trying to watch a youtube video, and the screen hops back and forth from "yes/no for iTunes, and the main page...and I"m not doing a thing.

  • Iphone 4 touch screen and other problems

    I have an iPhone 4 It recentley started acting up on me the touch screen stoped working and it stops charging other than that it all works.
    Charging- When I plug the charge on it has the "thunder" logo on it but doesnt charge. #probably logic board problem help me out?
    Touch screen- I know 100% its not the digitizers fault as I have changed it to another one and it still the same thing #probably logic board problem
    I tryed hard booting and itunes doesnt reconise
    I t was water damaged but fixed, when the water damage was fixed the touch screen still didn't work.

  • 6300 - blanks to white screen and other problems

    Okay, it's my first post here. I've had a 6300 for about a year, and lately (in the last 24 hours) it's developed a serious problem. I cannot access text messages at all ("Message storage memory not ready"), nor my gallery. If I turn it on and leave it for a while, even if it's in the middle of something like a call, it will eventually drop to a blank screen from which nothing works (even the power button), or possibly a "please enter time/date" screen which has the same problem of nothing responding. The only way to turn the phone off after this is to remove the battery, but subsequently turning it back on again is difficult, working about 50% of the time (the other 50% being a blank screen).
    If a reset is essential, I'd like a way to do so without losing any messages (particularly those sent since the problem started, since I haven't been able to access them yet), but I understand if this is not possible.
    I've tried restoring factory settings, but it often reverts to this white screen before that finishes, unfortunately.

  • Zen Vision : M - Album Art not displaying and other probl

    Hi,
    I bought a Zen Vision : M from Hong Kong last week and of course the first thing I did when I got home was install all the software that came with it and started uploading songs.
    The player is great and I love it but there are just two annoying little things.
    Two problems I encountered.
    . I uploaded the album art using the Media Explorer by clicking and draging the JPEG into the explorer as instructed, sometimes the album art shows on the player and for some albums, it just won't show on the player, however it shows correctly on the explorer. Has anybody else experienced the same thing?
    Is there going to be a new firmware to fix that?
    2. Sometimes after closing all the Creative applications and explorers, it still does not release the player. It still saids that it is docked. I have to either shut down the computer or manually pull the USB cable out which is something I don't want to do if it is still transferring information between the player and the PC... In the next firmware, there should be an option to undock the player.
    Also the website claims to have all these accesories such as the docking station and leather case for the player but I cannot find any online store that has it!?! I have searched the Europe online stores and Asia online shops yet I cannot find it. Where would I be able to find it's As I am always afraid that the connector that comes with the player will break as it feels quite fragile.

    The arrows stay still when you can remove the Vision M and kinda rotate, actually move when you are tranferring songs.
    Looks similar.

  • Zen touch - Light stays on when off and other probl

    Hey,
    recently my zen has been doing some weird stuff ie when i look for music by selecting genre, it'll automatically start to play any song on the player on shuffle mode.
    Also, last night when i switched the player off, the blue light was still on at the side; it started to dim after a few seconds but i found if i shake it slightly the light goes back on again!
    I tried to get the the menu where you can choose to cleanup, reload firmwire and so on but it didn't work (it is hold down play button at the same time as the reset button isn't it's)
    can anyone suggest any help?
