Has anyone else seen these issues with 10.8 server?

Just started a new 10.8 server (10.8.2 on a Xserve). I'm seeing 2 small but annoying issues with WGM.
If I try to add a computer to a computer group:
1. I don't see 10.7 or 10.8 Macs in the Bonjour list.(Using the ...) (Yes they are on the same subnet and yes I am also using a 10.8.2 client to run WGM)
2. If I try to manually add the computer to Open Directory, I have to name them slightly differently than we did on 10.6 server. (xx1234 doesn't work, xx1234-567 does)
Just small bugs or something else I am missing?

After spending a decent amount of time with a certified Apple support company here is what we found:
1. Both issues above are bugs. It is unclear wheather they are bugs in Server or WGM 10.8.
2. We were able to do a workaround for the computer naming issue. However it isn't great.
The server was both an OD Master AND bound to AD for user/user group authentication.
However, the server was looking at the AD computer OU (where the Mac objects are put when clients are bound to AD) and considering those computers to be in OD. Either un-binding or taking AD out of the search policy solved that issue.
But now none of the AD user/user group stuff works.
So, that is where we stand so far.

  • Has anyone else seen this behavior with MobileMe since iOS4?

First some explanation. I have two different push mail accounts on my iPhone. A MobileMe account and an Exchange account. They are both receiving push mail, calendar entries, and contacts.
Now, on the Exchange account, when I receive a message, the new message badge shows up on the iPhone. This is good, and the expected behavior. If I then go and read and / or delete that message in say Outlook or through Outlook Web Access, the message status also updates on the iPhone nearly instantaneously, again this is the expected and desired behavior. Any changes made in mail are also pushed to the iPhone in the background and in very short order.
Now, the MobileMe account is NOT doing this. Sure, when I get a new message, that message is placed on the iPhone and the badge is updated. However, if I then read and / or delete that message while using say the MobileMe Web App or the mail application on my Mac, that change is never reflected on the iPhone. So the badge never changes and the messages are not changed or removed from the device. This is NOT the desired behavior, and not what I remember pre iOS 4. It is not until I open the mail app on the iPhone that the inbox finally updates to reflect the changes made in the inbox or other folders.
So, has anyone else noticed this? Can someone else test this to see if they too are having this issue. I tried to report it to MobileMe support, but only got the standard script. The tech tried to help, but was not able to tell me what was going on or could not understand what I was trying to tell him. I suspect this is an issue on either the sync servers for MobileMe or the mail servers for MobileMe or both.

You might get a better response if you ask in the dedicated *MobileMe on iPhone and iPod Touch > MobileMe Mail* forum, as that is where people who are using MobileMe are most likely to see posts relating to it.

  • Does anyone else (or has anyone else) had an issue with their wireless keyboard connecting via the Bluetooth?

The first day I got it, it was fine. Then when I woke up the next day which was less than 12 hours after hooking it up, it wouldn't connect..it let me type a couple of characters to my password, but then literally stopped. My trackpad has yet to have any issues whatsoever. Even during the keyboard malfunctioning it's been fine. In order to get the keyboard to work, I have to log into the guest account, let it be discovered, then pair it. It as now happened on 4 different days, more times than that, though. I've only had it for just over a week. I don't think there's a problem with the computer just because the trackpad is fine. The keyboard blinks that little green light when it's having this issue, too. As you know, it's normally off. Today I tried to log in for the first time and it did the same thing as the first day. It let me type a few characters, then stopped and wouldn't connect. This time, though, when I went into the guest account to let it be discovered it wouldn't let me type the numeric code to pair it. I had to hold down my power button to restart it because I was logged in on another user and it wouldn't let me restart it the normal way without typing the admin username/password...which I obviously couldn't do seeing as how I didn't have a keyboard. Does anyone else think this is a faulty keyboard I need to return? Or is this unfortunately how it works...or what? Help please...
I was at the Apple Store that week 5 times for a messed up phone that they replaced with a total of 4 replacement phones because of different issues the ones they gave me had and driving there that much almost made me say screw it to the iPhone...now I buy this very expensive iMac spending 2 grand and this happens....I'm so mad I am thinking of just returning it and giving up on Apple altogether which Idon't WANT to do...but with all I've dealt with in a 2 week period with the iPhone and now this...oh and I bought a $100 cell phone case I had to replace because it wasn't working correctly. So you see, I am beyond frustartee over Apple.....if anyone could help I'd greatly appreciate it. With all of my problems I've had, you'd think they want to do more than apologize for my inconvenience. Even the techs that helped me said it was ridiculous I've had so many issues and now I'm just adding to the list..

    Try this:
Go to System Preferences - Bluetooth. Delete the keyboard from the list of devices by pressing the "-" button. Take the batteries out of the keyboard and reinsert them. In Bluetooth Preferences press the '+" button to add the new device. If the keyboard begins to pair, click the word "pair" and type in the passcode. Press return. The keyboard is now paired.
If the mouse is not pairing, try this: shut down the computer completely, unplug any USB mice, then turn off the power to the bluetooth mouse.  ONce the computer starts up again, wait for the pop-up looking for a mouse.  Turn on the power to the bluetooth mouse.  It should work normally now.

  • Anyone else having these issues with ipad

Hi I have an ipad air which I now own for a month and recently safari keeps crashing almost all the time.
I've also starting to notice this second click noise on my home button on my ipad air
For example I put my finger on the button and I can hear a noise as if I'm pushing it but I'm not
I don't know if it's become loose or something is wrong with it ?
    I hope that made sense
Can anyone help me out here?
Btw I barley use the home button I mostly use the ipad gestures to get in and out of an app but when I do use it it's kinda annoying .... Is it an issue with my ipad?
I can't go to an apple store it's to far

No, not the tabs "x", but for example, just now I tried to respond to your post by pressing the REPLY link on my ipad and it doesn't work. It also happens on EBAY when you click on tracking numbers and the pop-up window has a close button that will not work. Also on  EBAY if you make an offer, a window comes up to review your offer and submit. the submit button does not work. If you hold on one of these link buttons you get a notice to open and the info says javascript. I think ios 8 has issues with JavaScript.

  • Has anyone else had any issues with their iPhone 5

I had a problem with Siri this weekend.  Asked a question and got it answered, then asked another question and it was just "thinking" and didn't answer.  This morning I connected to iTunes and the screen went black except for time, service bar.  I had to shut it down and turn it back on.  And is it just me, or does the battery run down A LOT faster??

Everyone else seems to be using their iPhone 5 devices trouble free   No, but seriously...the issue with the fast draining battery is probably your push notifications or the known problem with excessive data network usage.  Make sure you adjust your app settings to reduce push notification usage, and monitor your data usage to see if your phone is secretly downloading tons of data.  People are describing gigs worth of data over a few days.
WiFi also drains batteries pretty fast.  If you don't need it, turn it off.
Sounds to me like Siri had a freakout that sapped the memory of the phone (some kind of memory leak/bad programming).  The restart probably stopped whatever was stuck in a loop.

  • Has anyone else noticed an issue with the new mail icon on the lock screen?

After updating to iOS 8 there is a new mail icon on the lock screen. When I slide it up I get this message:
"Failed to continue activity- the connection to your other device may have been interrupted- Please try again"
After trying again and again I get the same message and I do not have the "other device" that it mentions. I'm not sure what is going on, does anyone have any ideas?

Nope, have not seen this issue or have this issue myself.  Try going into Settings and toggling off that email account, toggle back on and then send a test email to yourself.  If it still persists, delete the email account and re-add and try again.

  • Has anyone else had an issue with Suspension of devices vs Canceling of devices?

Back in July I contacted customer service about canceling our service on our mobile hot spot (jetpack). The customer service representative told me to "go online and suspend the service, it will eventually cancel out". So that is what I did. Today I received a bill with $71.05 in charges for the "canceled" jetpack. I called into customer service, was transferred to Lisa, the customer service supervisor for the midwest call center and was told basically sorry, but we can't credit your account. We provided the service even though you did not use the service. I stated that I received no notification that service would resume and thought that the line would "cancel out" as I was told by the customer service representative back in July. So I asked to speak to Lisa's supervisor, she doesn't have one...really??? she answers to no one??? I inquire about cancelling my account all together effective immediately, and she could not tell me what the total charges would be...and she's the supervisor who answers to no one??? No wonder this company is going downhill....All I want is the $71.05 credited to my account since I was given misinformation. Am I asking too much????

How would pulling a taped conversation of the customer consenting to suspend vs disconnect help them get their way at all? At some point a person has to accept personal responsibility for their choices. If he wanted it disconnected, he should have declined going online to suspend and had it disconnected.

If you aren't receiving the emails on your rescue email accounts (and you've checked the spam folder as well as the inbox, and tried clicking the reset link again), then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.

  • Has anyone had app update issues with iOS 8.1?

I'm running iOS 8.1 on a iPhone 6+.  If I try to update an app from the app store without being logged in, it will hang the process and the update will fail.
Previously, with my iPhone 4 and iOS 7.1.2 the app store would ask me to log in when an app update was attempted without being logged in.
The work around until apple fixes this bug is to ensure you are logged in BEFORE attempting an app update.  An honest techie at the local apple store admitted this is a bug (one of many) in iOS 8.1.  Has anyone else had this issue with iOS 8.1

Nope, I'm able to update an app in iOS 8.1, even if I'm not first logged into the iTunes & App Store in Settings.  It prompts me to update the app, then I sign in with my password.
Do you have Touch ID enabled for App Store or not?

I recently upgraded to Lion, and immediately started having consistent problems with Open Office 12 (would hang, and need a Force quit to recover). Has anybody else seen these problems? Any solutions other than going back to Snow Leopard? (I did). But I'd like to use iCloud with iPad.

Hi Pete. The repair of disk permissions can help resolve  any application crashing or misbehaving.
As for Lion and the two camps, I think that is a reasonable observation. In my office we have about a dozen Mac's and about one third of those Mac's had problems after updating from 10.6 to 10.7. The main problem for these Mac's was a loss of wifi stability. But for the other two-thirds, Lion was a smooth transition.
Personally, my Lion experience was fine. But I did get a new i7 MacBook Pro with Lion already installed and only had to migrate my user data from a 10.6.8 TM backup.
So I think that is a key for Lion's operational success. A clean install of Lion on a new Mac would not cause too many operational issues. But an installation, or more correctly, an update to Lion from SL increased the chances of failure for some users - especially when old software & plugins resided on the Mac. And I would say that they were the people that you saw at the Apple store.
As for the "latest release of Lion fixed my problems" statement, my experience with these and other forums is that people mostly only go there to complain about the problems they are having. If they are having no problems then they either keep it to themselves or they try to help the users who are experiencing trouble...
