HD2600XT w/X1900XT for 3rd monitor - systems freezes

I wanted to add a 3rd monitor to my early MacPro that came with the Radeon X1900 XT. I asked and received advice in an earlier post concerning a graphics card that would be compatible with my configuration. The Radeon HD2600XT was an affordable suggestion. I next called the Apple Store and asked them to confirm compatibility. They transferred me to tech support who made the assurance that the 2600XT would work. I conveyed the info to my wife who ordered it for me for Xmas from Apple.
Well, today is Xmas. I installed the card in slot 3, connected the 3rd monitor, and started up. It worked! For about 5 or 10 minutes, until I got into some applications. Then the system froze. I had power over the mouse but nothing else.
I reset the MMR, I zapped the PRAM, I changed the HD2600XT to slot 2, but every time I checked the graphics card in the system profiler, status of the graphics card was "No display connected." I switched monitors, I took all of the monitors off except the one connected to the HD2600XT - I tried this with multiple monitors. Even though the monitor would work for a while before freezing again, any monitor connected to the 2600XT would produce the same message in system profiler - "No display connected." BTW, in froze in many different applications, in case you were wondering.
I called Apple back. Now they are not certain that the X2600 XT is compatible. Now they tell me that the only one they are sure of is the nVidia Quadro FX 4500 - a NOT so affordable alternative. (Found one for "as cheap as" $535).
Can anyone confirm that the Radeon X1900 (which will only operate in slot 1) is compatible with the Radeon HD2600 XT, or vice versa, in an early MacPro (one year old today) - absolutely? Do you suppose Apple will take the 2600 back if it is not? (Do I have a bad card right out of the box? Did I miss anything? Is there anything else I can try? I hesitate to ask this last question but do you think it is the logic board. Everything works fine with the X1900 and 2 monitors so I don't see why it would be the logic board...

Hi,
I'm running a Mac Pro 1.1 quad 2.66 with 12GB of memory and a X1900XT with a HD2600XT. The X1900XT is driving two dell 24" monitors at 1920x1200 and the HD2600XT is driving a HD projector at 1280x768. I have the X1900XT in the bottom slot at 16x and the HD2600XT in the top slot at 8x.
I don't think the lanes are the issue. 1x would be MORE than enough to allow for 2D rendering such as browsing the web. PCIe v1.x is 250MBps per channel (PCIe 2.0 is 500MBps). Let us assume you are running a 1920x1200 desktop and you are watching a full screen video that is using the whole space and it being displayed at 30fps and all textures are changing with each frame. So that would be 1920x1200x32x30 (x by y times bit-depth (millions of colors is 32 bit) times redraw) which works out to be 2,211,840,000 bits, so you divide that by 8 to get bytes, 276,480,000, divide again by 1024 to be KB, 270,000, divide again by 1024 to get MB, which works out to be 263.67 MBps. So you might get a few dropped frames worse case scenario with a 1x channel. However, if you are running 8x you have 1,000MBps to work with which you will never use all of in a 2D draw even with a 30" display at 2560x1600 which would work out to be 468.75MBps. The reason you need the large bandwidth is for things like games where you are not rendering flat 2D textures. 3D textures can go through memory and thus bandwidth quick as you have added a whole-nother axis to the equation.
I don't think power is the issue either. The 300 watts, is 300 watts from the PCIe bus and not the motherboard per say. The X1900XT has an external power molex serving it power there by supplementing it's pull off the bus. The HD2600XT is low enough it doesn't need external power. More over, the reason that the 1900 has external power is that one slot is not allowed to pull more than a certain amount of power, I believe 60 watts, per slot. So with two cards that's only 120 of the 300 watts.
I believe you may have one of the following:
1) A heating issue, especially if you are still running the stock heatsink on the 1900 (it gets HOT, which is why I think the 1900s are having so many issues in the Macs) and the issue may have been triggered by adding the extra heat from the 2600.
2) You could have a hardware issue with either the 2600 or the motherboard. Trying another slot may help with testing the motherboard, testing the 2600 could be a bit more difficult. (I think that's been suggested.)
3) Could be a firmware issue and that could be any number of combination between the firmware on the Mac and the two video cards.
What kind of monitor do you have and are you serious about selling it?
Best of luck!

  • End to End Monitoring confiuguration for 3rd party systems

    Hi,
I have been trying to racking up materials for end-end configurations for 3rd party systems and can't find any..All the ABAP  systems are perfectly configured in our End-End Monitoring system but can't find any of the third party systems..Is there a seperate method to configure 3rd party systems?
    -Teresa

    Hi Teresa,
You can't include 'Third Party' systems in end-to-end monitoring. We had raised a SAP note for the same and below is SAP response..
"End-to-end monitoring stands for the functionality included as of 6.40 that enables you to track XI messages accross several systems. This functionality can be configured for all components that are able
to contribute information to this process monitoring, i.e. only SAP systems can be configuered."
Also check this from online help..
"The Runtime Workbench receives the data for end-to-end monitoring from the Process Monitoring Infrastructure (PMI), which is an SAP monitoring tool for monitoring end-to-end technical processes involving multiple SAP components."

  • Define one logical system for PI or multiple LS for 3rd-party system?

    Hi gurus,
We are using IDOC2SOAP and SOAP2IDOC scenario in PI7.11. My question is regarding the logical system(or partner profile) on R3 side. We have two 3rd party system:A and B, so we have two choices.
    1. define one single logical system for PI integration server;
    2. define two logical systems for A and B.
For choice 1, it seems we can only use one business sytem or business component (business service in 7.0) as the two 3rd party system, especially for SOAP2IDOC scenario.
For choice 2, it seems we have no restrictions.
Is it correct?Any help will be appreciated.

technically you can use both options.
The question is - do you want all the IDOCs in your R3 system to appear as though they were sent from the PI?
What if a lot of 3rd party systems were sending the same IDOC (for example - ORDERS) and you want to investigate only those who were sent from system A?
I like it configured that every system will be identified by a name I give it.
I just use the IDOC communication channel checkbox of "Take Sender from Payload"
or use a different service in the IBC that has a different logical system configured in its Adapter specific identifiers.
    Hope it helps,
    Imanuel Rahamim.

  • Java Stack for Central monitoring system

I believe for central monitoring with only ABAP stack is sufficient to monitor both remote ABAP and JAVA stacks. For this purpose CCMS and GRMG can be used. My questing is there any need to have JAVA stack in central monitoring system? If yes, what are the things that only ABAP stack can not do alone and JAVA stack is required in central monitoring system?

  • Information needed on having one more CEN system for the monitored systems

    Hi Everyone,
I need some information regarding configuring of one more CEN system
system for the systems which are already being monitored by another
    central system.
    1) Do I need to register a new CCMS agent on the monitored system for the NEW CEN system again. As I already have sapccm4x registered in the monitored system for the old CEN system, which i think can't be used for the new CEN system.
If I can go with configuring NEW CEN system for the same monitored systems, can you tell me how should I proceed.
Can anyone help me by providing the information for this issue.
    Regards,
    Bharath Kumar.K

    1) yes you can use DSL with what you have, but you want more RAM and I would recommend getting OSX.3 or above because the web browsers for OS9, which I assume is what you are running, are a bit dated and not well supported any longer.
    2) Yes you can add more RAM. The 64meg stick in there can be removed. You can add up to 1 Gig of RAM via two 512Mb PC100 or PC133 DIMMS.
    See here: http://tinyurl.com/qdlo3
I would add at least 512 Mb if you use OSX and no less than 256 mb if you are using OS9
    3) No you can not use CD-R or CDRW with the hardware you have. That iMac only has a CDRom drive and can not burn CDs. You can buy an external CD burner if you want to back up to CDRs
PS: You may want to remove your serial number from your post. Granted the warranty has expired but there's no need or reason to list it.

  • Configuration for Central Monitoring System in SAP Solution Manager.

    Hi Folks,
I am trying to setup Central System Monitoring in SAP Solution Manager, I am following the document which mention the step by step instructions.
There are couple of items on which  I am really confused.
In the documentation it says to activate Background Dispatching & Central System dispatching in 000 client of Solution Manager,
it also mentioned about creating CSMREG user, but it did not say in which client this activity needs to be performed, and there are lot many steps in which there is no mention about the client of solution manager in which we have to perform the configuration.
Can you guys please help me to configure properly?
One set document which I saw talks about the configuration using RZ21 and other document discuss about Configuration using System Monitoring Work Center, which one do we need to follow, are both methods are 2 different options doing the same thing, can you please clarify?
Also, is there any document which clearly explains the setup of  Central System Monitoring in SAP Solution manager using both approaches and also to test the monitoring?
    I have SAP Solution Manager 7.0 EHP1.
    Thanks.

  • Configuring CCMS alerts for Availablity Monitoring

    Hi All,
We are in the process of configuring availablity monitoring in central system (solution Manager 7.0 with SP stack 23) to monitor all systems (ABAP,Java,Dual Stack, Trex,DMS,etc) in landscape.
As a first step, we have registered CCMS agents in monitored (ABAP) system and connected to central system (Solman)
All the required RFCu2019s have been defined for data transfer between monitored and central system
In RZ20,i could see the availablity as 100% for the defined moniored system under  SAP CCMS Technical Expert Monitors>All Contexts on Local Application Server>CCMS self monitoring >CCMS agents>CCMSPING.hostname
Not sure whether above path is the place where in we look for alerts
    Please clarify the below points
    i) how to configure the email alerts (in RZ20) from the central system when monitored system is down
ii) the path in which I can find the alerts in RZ20 for that monitored system or how to add the monitored system incase if that  doesnt exists
iii) MTE class under which analysis, auto reaction method to be assigned ?
iv). data collection method and frequency
v). Which MTE class to be used to assign the Autoreaction method (CCMS_test_mail alredy defined)
Appreciate your quick response on this
    Thanks,
    vadi

    Hi All,
Thanks a lot for your reply.
Still i m having an issue in handling the  RZ20 alerts managemnent
    In RZ20,
    i) i able to see the added monitoried system id under the node CCMS Monitor templates>Availablity & performance overview>Availablity-->monitored sys id
ii) When i click on open staus for the above node turns to green color
ii) when i click on current status the node turns to grey color
I am not sure whether the data collection is being passed since it doesnt turn red when the system is down
However the dispatching jobs are active in both CEN and monitored (000 client) systems
    Appreciate your response
    Thanks,

  • Security on a monitored system

    Hey Experts
Is there any way to control the security, authorizations, roles for a monitored system from Solution Manager?

  • System Freeze On 2nd Monitor Disconnect

MacBook Pro 2.16 Ghz Core Duo
    NitroAV FW800 ExpressCard
    2 Wiebetech Traydocks w/ 500GB SATA Drives
    Viewsonic VA1912wb
I usually keep my system tethered to my desk, with my two external drives connected by my Expresscard and the second monitor attached by DVI. When I want to move around the house, I detach the whole thing and am usually good to go. Since installing Leopard, unmounting the drives and ejecting the card seems to lead to a near total system freeze once I get around to detaching the monitor. Here's the sequence of events.
    1. Eject both drives from the desktop.
    2. Power off Expresscard. (Ejecting / Not ejecting the card seems to make no difference)
    3. Detach DVI cable from laptop.
The moment I get to step three, the computer freezes, everything except mouse movement. The cursor moves freely, but nothing can be selected and nothing responds, with only a hard reboot as a way out. The usual momentary effect of the primary screen turning blue then returning to desktop view when detaching a monitor does not occur.
It seems to be a combination of powering off the card and detaching the monitor that is causing this. Detaching the monitor without powering off the card seems to pose no problem. Detaching the monitor first then removing the card only seems to delay the freeze, which will then occur once the monitor is reattached (unless I reboot beforehand).
Resetting the SMC has no effect. I'm stumped.

I can't find any official claim to back this up, but I know that KDE can work with as little as 512 MB RAM, so I think that 2 GB is plenty. At least for desktop stuff.
OP, do you use swap? Just to rule out any hardware issues, run Memtest86+ from a LiveCD (which you can also find on the Arch install media) for a couple of hours and see if it breaks down.

  • [Solved] System freezes after 10 minutes if no monitor attached

I've got a server machine that has been running Arch for a month now. It has had a problem of constant freezing all the time. At first it seemed completely random but today I noticed the system freezes up exactly after 10.00 minutes of uptime, if there is no monitor plugged into the system. If I unplug the display after ten minutes, the system will run fine as long as I want to (days, weeks) without it. Ten minutes is also the time after which the monitor will go into stand-by mode. Seems like some kind of a power-saving bug? No entries in any log file @ /var/log...
The system runs only basic home network functionalities; it serves as an NFS server, a print server (CUPS) and runs Lighttpd as a web server. It doesn't do Xorg nor has any fancy kernel modules loaded either. The system is up-to-date (stable repos). No custom-built software.
Somewhat sad since I previously ran NetBSD on the server, but it didn't support my printer-scanner (only printer OR scanner, one at a time), then switched to FreeBSD which failed with my new WLAN card, so then turned to Arch that I've ran on desktop for years now (also like the BSD-ness), and then this...

Case closed, the source of trouble was once again kernel mode-setting (I think)... I blacklisted the drm_kms_helper module and some other stuff and that disabled the KMS functionality, and the server now doesn't freeze at any point.

Error message: "Warning: unresponsive script". Afterward, the system freezes and will then crash. Crash reports have been submitted many, many times without response. I have tried the fore-mentioned solutions with either no results or very bad results which I filed a report but did not receive an answer. The application to block scripts actually worsened the problem and I could not correct the situation for a while (no response from Firefox, at all). I have also been through this procedure without any one contacting me, AT ALL.

There does appear to be any support whatsoever from mighty "non caring" FIREFOX & people are getting fed up. We may as well try another system, if they can't be bothered to provide any support for their system, we can't be bothered to use their system.

  • Solution Manager System Monitoring for non SAP system

    Dear Support,
I have configured the CCMS Agent (SAPCCMSR) for non-SAP system (Windows 2008R2).
The system information (e.g. CPU, Memory, Disks etc) has already showed in RZ20 of Central Monitoring system (e.g. Solution Manager).
How can I do to configure to display these information in the Alert Inbox tab on System Monitoring Workcenter?
    Best regards,
    Fan Hung

    Hi,
Have you defined and added corresponding logical systems for the respective satellite systems?
Here is the sequence of steps you've to do:
    in SMSY:
    1) Define server, DB, Systems
    2) Generate READ, TMW, TRUSTED RFCs to the satellite systems
    3) define logical systems and assign the satellite system to it
    in Solution_Manager:
    1) define new solution
    2) add the logical system into the solution
If these steps are successful, you should be able to see the satellite system in SYSTEM MONITORING in Solution_Manager.
Have you already done these steps?
    After performing these steps:
    Solution_Manager>choose relevant solution>operations setup>Solution Monitoring>System monitoring>Activate monitoring> choose the system and activate monitoring.
    Your system will then appear.
    Does this help any way?

  • Pricing conditions for the articles are getting triggered one day before the actual activation date to 3rd party systems through job WPMU.

    Hi SAP Guru´s,
Currently we are sending the pricing, promotions & article master data delta load to 3rd party system from SAP ECC via SAP XI through IDOCS using daily scheduled batch jobs WPMU. IDOC segment - WP_PLU.
Here the issue is the promotion & pricing data are sent to 3rd party system one day before the actual start date.
Eg: Promotion 123456 which has start date as 15/05/2014 & ending on 30/05/2014 & was created & activated on 13/05/2014.
This promotion 123456 is getting triggered from SAP ECC through batch job on 14/05/2014 morning & 3rd party system receives the data on 14/05/2014 & the promotion are getting activated at 3rd party system end on 14/05/2014 itself which actually gets active from 15/05/2014.
Same in the case for Standard Pricing data which needs to be active from 31/05/2014 once the promotion 123456 ends on 30/05/2014.
The standard pricing data gets triggered from SAP ECC on 30/05/2014 through batch job & reaching 3rd party system on 30/05/2014 & getting activate on 30/05/2014 itself.
This creates more issues at the store end as well as affecting business.
We checked at 3rd party system end & they replied that their system considers the updated time stamp & date to activate the prices & it does not considers the actual active from & active to date. They need the data to be sent from SAP ECC on the effective date of the pricing & promotions.
Can any one help me how to change the pricing conditions beign triggered through batch job in SAP ECC based on the actual promotion & pricing conditons start date or is there any other process to trigger the data through the batch job on the actual promotion & pricing data activation date.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Thanks & Regards,
    P.P.Shankar

    Hello Shankar,
Change the lead time in the POS Outbound Profile. You can't put less than 2 days there so data for today and tomorrow will be transferred which also means you need to adjust your batch timing accordingly.
Sales and Distribution -> POS Interface -> Outbound -> Maintain Profile for POS Outbound.
See if it helps. The best option would still be that the 3rd part system considers the activtion date.
    Kind Regards

  • Processing Invoices for Service Entries Via a 3rd Party System

    Hi all
We are using a 3rd party business collab site to allow vendors to accept purchase orders, process their own service entries and upon reciept of a service entry reponse, they will be able to invoice via this 3rd party website.
The problem the technical team (XI/PI) team is having is that the when the invoice comes in, using stand idocs and function modules, SAP processes the Invoice using MIR6.  The problem we get here it that it sees the Service entry as a GRV and the level of the information is no longer at a lower level and come up to a PO line item level.  Is this cause I am using GRV base invoice verification.  But based on this, if a service entry has multiple services, it only processes the last one, and looks at the others as duplicates as they all reference the same PO and Line Item.
Have any of you come across such a senario and what did you do?
What would be the impact if I did not do goods reciept based invoice verification.  Could that cause additional problems elsewhere in the system?
    PLEASE HELP
    Thanks
    Vinesh

    Hi Chandra
Its always preferred to use Business service for communication with systems outside the landscape. As it does not refer to any SLD components and safe to use on internet etc.
What is the use of using a 3rd Business system instead of using business service in my current situation?
If you want to use 3rd party system you need to define party based communication and it acts as a party in production environment. You can also create a Standalone sytem in SLD for your use. Standalone technical system mostly refers to standalone Java applications in landscape.
n both the cases, i can use a file sender CC and pickup the file from a folder using FTP protocol.
What is the criteria based on which i need to take this decision?
If your communication is party based and the 3rd party you refer is a party for ERP then it make sense to use a third party communication and use party name as well.By this i mean business wise. Else its always good to use Business service.
And finally, how are the system name & host name details, which we given during 3rd party technical system definition in SLD useful?
To use this third party system you need to register products on TS else you will not be able to see any Interface etc while configuring in ID. you need to add all details to it in SLD.
    Thanks
