HDD built in password

This has been nothen but an head ach to me from the begining. maybe some-one can help me sence toshiba cant do it. I perchassed a laptop last summer, talk with toshiba and seems they give u more of a run around then anything. when i bought the laptop there was passwords that needed to be cleared so they told me to take it to this place and they could do it for me with nn charge. NOT, they charged me 80.00 to clear the first one and told me i needed the recovery disk for the machine, then bring back and they would get it done for me under a 100.00. well i finally got the disk from them but cant aford to pay to have them do it so any ideas to clear the HDD built in password.  thanks for ur time   satalite system a215-s7416

If there was passwords already on the machine we can only assume your purchase was an out of box, demo, or refurb. IN any case Toshiba was correct they are not responsible.  However, that being said, IF you purchased new and sealed, then back to that store and ask for manager assistance to resolve.  It appears you now have the Recovery Disk, that provider removed the BIOS Admin password, go ahead and use the Recovery Disc for the unit and do a reinstall.  Let us know the outcome please.

  • HDD lenght of password ? ! ?. IBM ThinkPad

    Hi,
Did you have a problem at any time with the HDD lenght password?
I remember my HDD password but problem concern lenght of it.
I have 14 characters password but when I want to change it in BIOS environment I can not, why? Because BIOS allow MAX 12 characters password.
I suppose that BIOS was changed after an upgrade?
Maybe I have set my 14 Characters password from other software ThinkVantage? I do not remember?
    Many thanks for any suggest.
    Pawel
    P.S.
I have IBM ThinkPad T42p (BIOS version 3.23)

    pajekow, welcome to the forum,
If I remember correctly the "Passphrase" function in security is disabled as BIOS default on the T42; this allows the use of longer passwords. It may be that you had enabled it to enter your password, but a BIOS update has returned the setting to default ??

  • How to use recovery disks to get rid of hdd password?

I got this compute and it's asking me to put in the built in HDD password, which I do not have so I purchased the recovery disks. I did what it said but didn't do anything? Help me please!

    Hello
The recovery disk will not delete the HDD password. Recovery disk will just reinstall Windows with all drivers and tools (factory settings) but not delete any HDD or BIOS password. Of course the Windows password will be deleted due recovery installation but thats all.

  • Win Vista 32 bit to windows 7 64 bit how to back up firefox bookmarks, passwords?

Currently on Vista 32 bit OS. Using FRESH HDD I'm switching to Windows 7 64 bit... Want to back up everything to external hard drive to put on new HDD.
'''''FIREFOX passwords, bookmarks, cookies, maybe even settings?'''''
    1) Able to backup 32 bit firefox stuff and restore/copy to Windows 7 64 bit?
    2) All locations of files to back up - bookmarks, passwords, ect..)
what process to use to get on new windows 7 64 hdd?
copy files/folders to new location with-in windows 7???
    * Know a lot/all(?) app data cannot be used from 32 bit on 64 bit, but there has got to be a way to not lose all my firefox user data (especially bookmarks and passwords!)
    Thanks

Even on 64-bit Windows, Firefox is a 32-bit application, so your data will be usable. It is easier if the version is the same on both (e.g., Firefox 3.6 to 3.6, Firefox 5 to 5).

  • Windows 7 XP mode looses password

XP mode has reset/forgot my logon details. I had previously removed the password in the virtual pc control panel and enabled guest account and had used xpmode for a month with no problems. One day when i booted it up it asked me to log on which was strange as it always loads up straight to the desktop usually. The user name it brought up was XPMUser and no password i tried worked. Also the guest account was disabled. I tried the username/password combination I set up when installing xpmode with no sucess. Using the username XPMUser no password I tried works. I have tried: admin, user, administrator, the password i set up originally with xpmode and my host PC password. I tried the previous passwords in combination with usernames: admin, administrator, user and my host pc username.
When i tried the username Administrator it said "Your account has been disabled. Please see your system administrator "
I cannot log on to XP mode. It seems to have defaulted to some built in password.
Is there any way to get into it or do I have to reinstall xpmode and loose everything?
EDIT: Sorted! if anyone else has this problem, click on settings and disable integration features then use username XPMUser without a password and that will log you on

  • I have a password protected site in iweb, but how do I get my users to "sign out" so there not always logged in

I built a password protected site in iweb and its published through mobileme. How do I get users to "sign out" so there not always logged in

I wouldn't bother really - it would be best to concentrate your efforts now on finding another web host that you can move your site to because after the end of June this year, publishing to MobileMe won't be an option.
Have a look at GoDaddy, HostExcellence etc. and you can still password protect your website, but you just do this through your host/server rather than MMe.
Start looking now before it's too late!

  • I cannot understand the answers provided when I ask 'how to change a password for a website' in Firefox Options tab.

The answers that your website have provided have not done me any good. I use a Master Password for Firefox. Now Firefox is not asking me if I want it to remember a certain password that I have entered for a website. In the 'Options' tab, I have told Firefox that I do not want to be tracked; that I don't want it to remember the history; and not to accept third-party cookies. What is it that I have to do in 'Options' so that Firefox remembers a new password (I have changed a password recently). I would really appreciate an actual answer, rather than a link to "some answers already posted".
I'm using Firefox 33.1. Windows XP - Service Pack 3.
    Thank you.

Are you saying that you changed your history setting here:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
to "Firefox will: Never remember history"?
This causes Firefox to always start up in a private browsing session. According to the help article "[[Usernames and passwords are not saved]]":
<blockquote>If you use the Firefox Private Browsing feature, no passwords will be automatically filled in for your Private Browsing window or in permanent Private Browsing mode, and no new passwords will be saved.</blockquote>
So hopefully that helps connect the dots.
If you prefer to keep using automatic private browsing, you may need to use an add-on to manage your passwords instead of Firefox's built-in password manager.
Or if you want to adjust other Firefox settings so that they are as close as possible to private browsing, we can suggest how to do that instead.

  • Password protect a Numbers file

Hello friends, I was wondering how to password protect a numbers file. I'm creating a financial report and only some eyes can see it. Anyway to force a user to enter a password before it opens is the goal. I appreciate your assistance. Gary

I advice against using the built in password function for really confidential data.
Apple has not specified what level of encryption is used, and it is possible that the encryption level is so low that any hacker can open the file.

  • Replace dvd-rw drive with hdd (lenovo 3000 n200)?

I would like to know if it is possible to replace internal optical drive and put insted a second hdd. If it is possible, then which type of hdd will suit 2.5" SATA or PATA?

I have a Lenovo 3000 N200 0769-ANU.  I doubt you can fit an HDD into the optical drive slot, good luck.
    Link to picture
My model takes a 2.5" SATA drive natively. The appearance of my SATA drive outside my machine looks like the illustration, which is larger than life size.   Look at the bottom of your laptop.  There is a hatch covering the HDD, fastened by  2 screws.   Remove that hatch to see what your current HDD looks like.
I looked but could not find an illustration of a SATA drive installed in the bay of a compatible laptop.  Below is an image of the drive connector as it would look from the top and outside of the laptop bay.
    Link to picture
This connection differs greatly from that of an old-style IDE connector, you should be able to spot it instantly if you remove the hatch.
A fast option to add a 2nd HDD to your model is to acquire an eSATA capability.  Unfortunately the 2nd HDD will have to be external.  Buy an eSATA-Expresscard adapter, an eSATA capable external hard drive enclosure, and a compatible SATA HDD.  For best usability, get the same make, model, and capacity as the SATA drive in your laptop.  That way you can swap the HDDs when (not if) the HDD installed in your laptop dies or gets terminally confused.   HDD prices vary.  The other hardware can be purchased for about $50.
An eSATA connection is just as fast as the connection to your HDD built into your laptop.  This is a unique feature of eSATA connections.  Unfortunately you will have extra cables and a box outside your machine, possibly with an external power supply for the 2nd HDD.

  • Connect Satellite internal HDD to USB

    Dear all,
I try to reconnect a laptop HDD to USB but can't access it.
    1. My old Satellite don't want to turn on anymore.
    2. I removed my HDD and connect it via an external USB case to my new Satellite.
    3. It is listed in the Device Manager under Disk Drives: "TOSHIBA MK2046GSX USB Device"
    4. I click the "populate" button and can't get informations except Capacity and no volume (disk was in NTFS).
    5. In the Disk Management i get the error "Data Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check)". the disk is "Not Initialized".
NOTE: I previously set a password on the disk via the BIOS, I of course I still know it and I hope that it is note the source of the problem...
Thank you if you can help me with this matter.

    > previously set a password on the disk via the BIOS, I of course I still know it and I hope that it is note the source of the problem...
I think this is the problem here.
The HDD is secured by HDD password and you will not be able to get access to the HDD if this password has not been removed previously.
But the HDD password can be removed ONLY via BIOS :( but your Satellite does not functions and in such case you cannot delete the HDD password

  • Is there any way to recover old passwords in Firefox?

I use both an external password manager and Firefox's built in password manager. The built in manager doesn't seem to keep a history of old passwords like the external one does.
Recently I tried to sign in at a website, entering the password through the external manager and clicked on the update password button that Firefox threw at me before the site told me that I used the wrong password. So now I'm thinking that the right password was in Firefox, and I just overlaid it.
Is there any way to get Firefox to cough up the old password?

If you set master password but you forgot and want to recover yet, See:
If you saved a password on Firefox password Manager and want to view it.
At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP) and then click Options
    Click the Security panel.
Click Saved Passwords... and the Password Manager will open.5
To see the passwords you have saved, click Show Passwords. When you close the window, your passwords will be automatically hidden.
Use the search box to find a particular website or username. Click the X in the search bar to clear your search and see the full list again. See:

  • Ghost data on HDD

    Hello everybody!
On my newly bought iMac I am experiencing a weird thing when I check how much space I have used on my harddisc. (By the way there is both a SSD and a HDD built into my iMac.)
When I check how much space I have used on my HDD (which should be empty) the information window tells me that I am using 663,8 MB of disc space even though I haven't used the disc! When I open a window to see what the disc contains, the windows shows nothing. I have just installed Lion, but after a check in the Terminal I found that the recovery part is on my SSD. I am now wondering what the 663,8 MB of space is used for.
Every helpful reply will be appreciated.

That space is used by the directory and special system files.
