HDMI Audio Vizio Television

Hello,
I'm using a Vizio television as my monitor, connected to my computer via HDMI cable. The picture looks fantastic, however I cannot seem to get the audio to work. The problem here is most likely my lack of knowledge. I've tried the steps in the wiki under the ALSA page for HDMI output, but perhaps I'm not doing them correctly. I also tried adding "radeon.audio=1" to kernel in grubs menu.lst, but this doesn't seem to do anything either. Not really sure what I should be doing here. Thanks for any responses in advance!

I'm trying to use alsa, I have tried unmuting all the various devices with alsamixer as described in the beginner's guide, and I have tried the steps on the alsa page under hdmi output not working. I'm not sure I can run "udevadm monitor" because I'm using this television as my only monitor, this isn't a laptop or anything. Thank you.

  • No HDMI Audio to my Vizio TV.

    So I'm getting no HDMI Audio at all when I hook up my PlayBook to my Vizio M3D460SR. I've enabled HDMI audio on the PlayBook, restarted it a few times, even wiped it. Still not working. I have a Kindle HD Fire that works as it should using the same HDMI cable to the television. The PlayBook's HDMI audio works fine on my Sony Bravia set which leads me to believe it's the tv but since it's playing HDMI audio for the Kindle Fire HD just fine, it makes me wonder... So would it be the tv?

  • After 1.6.2 update, I have hd picture but no sound, tv says hdmi audio unavailable

    I have hd picture but no sound, tv says hdmi audio unavailable , this happened right after update 1.6.2 my television is an HP PL4260N, I saw on other post in fixya.com other people with same problem after update too. Any ideas on fixing this? I already spent 2hrs with tech support trying to fix this and no luck, they had me use components I never had any problems before this update, is there a way to go back to 1.6.1? One more thing my standard channels work fine (video & audio)

    You may need to revert to using component cables until they hammer out the issues with HDMI.  Just hang on to that HDMI cable for future use when these issues are resolved.  You will not see a degrade in picture quality with component cables.  Only downside is the added cabling mess.

  • No HDMI Audio Output

    Hello,
    Today was my first time connecting my notebook to my HDTV by HDMI cable. It immediately reformats and the computer screen appears on the TV. I didn't have to do anything expcept connect the two devices by HDMI cable.
    My OS: Windows 8.1 64 bit
    Model: HP Pavilion 15-N003TX Notebook
    I wanted to play a video through Windows Media Player and noticed the sound was coming from my notebook instead of the TV? The picture was fine.
    How do I make the sound come from the television?
    And Also I go to Control Panel and go to the Sounds menu, all i have are the integrated speakers, Indpendent Dual Headphones, and SPDIF (Digital Out Via HP Dock).
    None of the options work. HDMI audio device isn't there.
    Please help me.

    Dear Customer,
    Welcome and Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Forum
    It looks like you are facing difficulties getting the Audio Out from the Television using HDMI Connection
    We will surely assist you with this issue
    Firstly I would like you to read this information if you are unaware
    There is no active or passive HDMI in the test specification. These terms apply to cables. Active cables have built-in electronics to enable long cable runs, and typically these cables require a power supply. These cables use active electronics to help push the signal farther than typical passive cables.
    Please check if you are using a Passive HDMI Cable or Active HDMI Cable. I dont think you will not get Audio Out if you
    are using Passive HDMI Cable. I guess you can easily resolve the issue by replacing the Passive to Active HDMI Cable
    Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again

  • No HDMI audio output after recent HP update.

    Hi, I recently was prompted for an HP sound driver update. After installation, the update seemed to break the audio output from my computer to my television. Before the update, the sounds from the computer would come from the television speakers, but now it defaults back to the laptop speakers. Since the update, there is no longer an option for HDMI audio playback in the sound options of the control panel. Can someone help?
    Here is a screenshot of my control panel. As you can see, there is no option for HDMI audio output, even though my HDMI cable is currently plugged in.

    Hi,
    Please select the right operating system (32 or 64 bit) for your machine, download and install it:

  • [Solved] Issue setting HDMI audio to default

    Hoping I'm not overlooking something very simple here.
    I have a Radeon HD4650 in my HTPC which I'm trying to run the audio through the HDMI output. I've set the kernel parameter "radeon.audio=1" and am able to hear sound through HDMI when I specify it manually within each application (for example XBMC or VLC going to Audio->Audio Device->HD-Audio Generic, HDMI 0 HDMI Audio Output).
    From there I tried to set the HDMI audio as default by following the wiki here:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Al … sound_card
    And here:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Al … s_not_work
    I've tried several combinations within my .asoundrc and asound.conf including:
    pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave.pcm {
    @func getenv
    vars [ ALSAPCM ]
    default "hw:0,3"
    defaults.pcm.card 0
    defaults.pcm.device 3
    defaults.ctl.card 0
    pcm.!default "plughw:0,3"
    ctl.!default "plughw:0,3"
    pcm.dmixer {
    type dmix
    ipc_key 2048
    slave {
    pcm "hw:0,3"
    period_size 512
    buffer_size 4096
    rate 48000
    format S16_LE
    bindings {
    0 0
    1 1
    pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave.pcm dmixer
    pcm:iec958 {
    type plug
    slave.pcm dmixer
    pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave {
    pcm "hw:0,3"
    ctl.!default {
    type hw
    card 0
    Most of these I just copied from the wiki or various forum posts I found and edited the proper device in. These appear to work, as the HDMI card shows up as default in alsamixer (I've made sure everything is unmuted here), but selecting the default channel in VLC still results in no sound, not even from the built in audio (I can change the output to the HDMI option and it works fine).
    I've also tried this which results in no sound:
    aplay -D plughw:0,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
    Is there something I'm missing here?
    Here's my aplay -l:

    A quick note here: I set this option in /etc/modprobe.d/:
    options snd_hda_intel index=-2
    This moved the HDMI card up to device 0 instead of 1. I've tried everything above as well with plughw:1,3 when that was the HDMI device.

    I seemed to have solved this by following the advice in the Gentoo wiki:
    https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Radeon#Audio_over_HDMI
    pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave.pcm "hdmi"
    Those four lines in my /etc/asound.conf work. I'm not sure what the difference is between specifying "hdmi" vs the hardware device "hw:0,3".
    I still get no sound with `aplay -D plughw:0,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav` however, `aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav` works now. `aplay -D hdmi /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav` results in an error/warning:

  • HDMI Audio not working on Q190 (along with all higher level Audio Formats)

    Help, I have been given the run around via support, I cannot get the HDMI audio to work with my Pioneer Surround Sound, only the Intel display audio shows in control panel (Win 8 X64) and the RealteK S/P Dif port and it is not capable of supporting 7.1 sound or bitstreaming or DTS, Dolby HD, Etc. Tec support appears not capable of fixing the issue and wanted to send me to software support and pay. I have only had the machine for 4 days and it has never supported higher level sound.
    Every other device I have (had or currently) connected to the receiver works just fine. I have to figure this out or return the machine, the audio is the most important aspect for me. Besides when you advertise 7.1 support the machine you sell should be able to do it.

    Hey guys,
    I have had this Q190 with the Celeron CPU since last week and I am using XBMC Frodo and the HDMI is connected to my AVR Onkyo TX-NR809 and from the Onkyo to the TV. And the sound is 7.1 with PLIIZ. It works fine. I think it may be some driver problem because Realtek Audio which is in the Q190 works fine with the Win8 preinstalled. Realtek is kind of bad with driver because I lost my wifi after upgrading to Win 8.1. After a few days with no wifi, I found out that the driver was bad, yes it was a Realtek wifi driver but posted by Lenovo for W 8.1.
    I have another friend who also just bought the Q190 and he reported no audio problem so I think it is just a matter of trouble shooting the drive and configuration. I do love the form factor of the Q190.

  • HOW TO: HDMI Audio Output for Zotac Media Box with nVidia ION :)

    I've been fighting with my recently purchased Zotac mini-PC for about 2 months now trying to get the HDMI audio output to work. I tried extensive modifications of /etc/asound.conf, different versions of ALSA, and even OSS without success. I've finally succeeded using ALSA and GNOME.
    First I installed ALSA according to the Arch wiki.
    Next I verified that ALSA detected my sound card(s):
    cat /proc/asound/cards
    0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
    HDA Intel at 0xfe9fc000 irq 28
    1 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
    HDA NVidia at 0xfcf7c000 irq 18
    Next I checked which sound card had the HDMI jack:
    aplay -l
    **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
    card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC888 Analog [ALC888 Analog]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: ALC888 Digital [ALC888 Digital]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: NVIDIA HDMI [NVIDIA HDMI]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 7: NVIDIA HDMI [NVIDIA HDMI]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 8: NVIDIA HDMI [NVIDIA HDMI]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 9: NVIDIA HDMI [NVIDIA HDMI]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    From these two commands, I concluded that I have 2 sound cards (important later on) and that my HDMI sound card was card 1 (NVidia) and that it had 4 possible devices (3,7,8, and 9). To determine which device must be used, I ran the following command for each device (for example, to test card X and device Y, use' plughw:X,Y'):
    aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav -D plughw:1,7
    Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Mono
    I tried each device and got the best sound from device 7 (8 and 9 also worked, device 3 gave static...).
    Now, since I had 2 sound cards, I needed to change the default ALSA device. My default ALSA device was card 0 (the Intel card), which wasn't plugged in, so I needed to change the default card to be card 1 (the HDMI card). After reading the ALSA FAQ, I found that modifying /usr/share/alsa.conf should work, though modifying /etc/asound.conf should have also worked. For whatever reason, I couldn't get my modifications to /etc/asound.conf to work, so I edited /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf. In the  "# defaults" section I replaced the following:
    defaults.ctl.card NVidia
    defaults.pcm.card NVidia
    defaults.pcm.device 7
    I opted to use the key NVidia rather than the card number (1) since I've read in numerous places that the card index can change unexpectedly after a reboot/update. The key can be checked with cat /proc/asound/cards as shown above.
    After this, I reloaded ALSA (/etc/rc.d/alsa restart) and verified that the sound worked through the default channel:
    aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav -D default
    Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Mono
    Finally, I rebooted, chose the HDA NVidia (ALSA Mixer) option from gnome-volume-control, and loaded a movie in gnome-mplayer. I was pleased to hear crystal clear sound with functioning volume control
    I Hope this helps someone else, I found it very hard to piece together how to diagnose and resolve this problem. Here are some of the resources I found useful:
    Arch Wiki ALSA Page
    ALSA FAQ for how to change default sound card
    ALSA FAQ
    XBMC Troubleshooting for ION HDMI

    @sprince09 Can you hear sound through HDMI when you run aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav -D plughw:1,7 ?
    (8 and 9 also worked, device 3 gave static...)
    - what does it mean? How do you know that they are working?
    What options do you have for snd_hda_intel in /etc/modprobe.d/ ?  Can you play the following:
    mplayer -ao alsa:device=hw=1,7 file.wav
    BTW, can you hear sound form video files in xine? If yes, can you post your ~/.xine/config ?

  • Satellite P75-A7100 No HDMI Audio Help Please!

    Had to make device dual boot due to work circumstances with 7 32bit on one side and 8.1 64 bit on the other side.  Read the posts and lots of tinkering with but still no audio out on the HDMI on either sides.  Primarily looking to accomplish on the 8.1 side.  Went through thre reccomended driver install directly from the TOSHIBA page in the order reccomended:
    1. Chipset
    2. HD4600
    3. Conexant Audio Driver
    No luck with the video being fine and no audio.  Not recognizing the audio connection in the drivers portion even under disconnected and disabled devices.
    Also downloaded latest HD4600 driver from intel and tried to manually install AUDIO portion but getting the windows Error 10 and not allowing.  From what I read that is the fix but no luck there.
    Any suggestions or direction please?

    Satellite P75-A7100
    Downloads here.
    I don't really know anything about this. I stopped by because you didn't mention looking for the HDMI audio here.
       Control Panel > Sound > Playback tab
    If you don't see it there, right-click in that panel and make sure all devices are showing. I once needed to change the default device there in order to enable the HDMI sound.
    Just a a thought. If that's not your trouble, I can't help.

  • No HDMI Audio from PNY Nvidia G210 Card - Please Help [SOLVED]

    ***** It's now working! *****
    Thanks to some of the posts on the XBMC and Ubuntu hardware forums. I picked up a lot of pointers.
    When using this card with XBMC, There is no need at all for an /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf with probe masks etc. and there is no need for a /etc/asound.conf either (if you are going to just use XBMC like me for your HTPC setup)
    All you need is ALSA 1.0.23 installed and at least be running kernel 2.6.34. aplay -l should reveal multiple (4) Nvidia devices as shown in my previous text further down this post, this is fine, however only 1 of these Nvidia devices will actually deliver sound to your TV via HDMI.
    In XBMC, goto System Settings, Audio Settings, set device to "Custom" and enter only ONE of the following and then try and play a movie or music in XBMC... (My G210 Nvidia soundcard is card 1 as I also have onboard audio at card 0 so bear this in mind when applying this method to your setup e.g if your HDMI soundcard is card 0 then the first thing to try is plughw:0,3)
    plughw:1,3
    plughw:1,7
    plughw:1,8
    plughw:1,9
    My PNY G210 card worked using a "Custom" device in XBMC of plughw:1,8
    If you are not using XBMC and are using for example a Gnome desktop then you can apparently get sound working by using the text in the code box below in your /etc/asound.conf (this will ensure alsa defaults to the correct card and sub device for hdmi audio) again ensure you are using the correct card number and device number. You can validate this by testing audio as follows from the command line "speaker-test -D plughw:1,8 -r 44100" and simply work your way through the 4 devices until you find the one that works.
    pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave.pcm {
    type hw
    card 1
    device 8
    Given the amount of testing and reading I have done on this, I wouldn't be surprised if this method works for any G210 Nvidia cards and HDMI audio, as the logic seems sound (if you'll pardon the pun! :-))
    Hopefully someone will find this helpful.

    I've tried the tips from the wiki here in terms of probe masks added to sound.conf but still no joy. http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=HOW-TO_set_ … ,_or_GT240
    I've also tried the tips from this post here and still no sound. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=90350
    Disabling the motheroard onbonard Intel Audio makes no difference and manually compiling and installing the very latest ALSA driver makes no difference.
    Has anyone got HDMI audio working on this card under linux?
    Thanks in advance for any help you can offer as I have now run out of ideas and if I can't get this to work will have to revert back to my old ASUS EN9400GT card which takes s/pdif from the motherboard for audio out to HDMI.

  • HP Pavilion dv9218tx Notebook PC and HDMI audio problem with Sony TV and Windows 7

    Sound does not come through with the HDMI connection and, on investigation, there is no HDMI audio driver/option.
    Noting that there seemed to be an issue with windows 7 and HDMI audio which is addressed by updating the BIOS and the connexant sound driver I have done so to no effect.
    The Sony TV is recognised as a standard monitor in the devices for graphics but not for audio
    Suggestions as to why HDMI does not appear - including as a disabled service - and what to do t get is available?

    Hello everyone,
    Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
    I will definitely assist you with lack of sound issues. Before anything else is done, please make sure you try every step in this thread: Troubleshooting Guide: Audio does not Work after a Certain Period of Time
    If every step does not help, please provide the following information:
    1. The computer's model number. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website: Guide to finding your notebook product number
    2. The computer's operating system. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website to determine your Windows operating system.
    3. Does this occur on certain programs, or all programs?
    4. Have you installed any new software or drivers on this computer, before the issue appeared?
    5. What steps have been attempted from my first post on this thread, and what were the results?
    Additionally, if the issue just began occurring, I would perform a system restore. I want you to bring the computer back to the earliest restore point possible, in an attempt to dodge whatever caused the issue. Here is a document on how to perform a System Restore: System Restore
    Either way, let me know what happens. Thanks!

  • Mac Mini 2011 HDMI audio in Windows 7 64 bit

    Hello all,
    I thought I would share lessons learned from my Boot Camp install on a Mac Mini.
    My config:  2011 Mac Mini 2.3, Intel 3000HD video
           .   .       upgrade to 8GB ram
    Samsung 8000 series LED TV connected with HDMI
    Memorex external BluRay writer(USB only power)
    For Windows 7 install, I tried installing with the 64 bit DVD but this failed as documented elsewhere.
    Instead, setup with USB drive, follow instructions available in bootcamp
    After partitioning drive with boot camp and reboot, install Windows 7 with install wizard.
    When asked whether to allow automatic updates say 'no', then complete installation and run boot camp tools for Windows.
    Because the network driver gets installed prior to the Intel video driver, Windows will install the Windows Update Intel video driver which breaks HDMI audio.
    When auto updates are off, the Intel video driver that is correct gets installed last.  HDMI audio works with this driver.
    Apple should install the Intel video driver first and it would solve this problem.
    I now have full blown 3D BluRay support on the MacMini with TruHD audio, fantastic!

    UPDATE:
    I just discovered a good clue on my problem.
    I always use my A/V Receiver to connect HDMI devices.
    I tried connecting directly my Samsung TV to the Macbook and Intel (HD) Graphics Audio recognized the TV and a new "Playback Device" appeared in the Windows menu.
    So the currently problem is that (just in Windows 7, since in OS X HDMI audio is working with DENON A/V Receiver):
    Intel HD 3000 graphics is not detecting <Denon A/V Receiver> as an "HDMI audio-capable device"
    My denon A/V receiver ( DENON AVR-1712 ) is sucessfull detected by my netbook with Intel G45 Express Graphics, but not working if i use Intel HD 3000 graphics on my MBA.

  • Bootcamp Windows 7 HDMI audio problem

    Hello,
    I have problem sound over HDMI with my MBP late 2013 13'' model A1502 on Windows 7 with Bootcamp.
    I've installed Windows following Bootcamp wizard from mac and creating bootable WIN7 usb with all support drivers on it. After this I've noticed that there is no sound on my tv when i connect it to my MBP. I've searched a bit more about this problem and I found that the latest graphics drivers might solve this problem so I've updated Intel® Iris™ Graphics 5100 directly from Intel's official web page and after the restart voila I have sound to my TV.
    After some time I was configuring my resolutions and I unplugged the HDMI cable and then I put it back again and the sound stopped. At first I was thinking that it is something with the default audio device settings and when I went into the control panel audio settings I've noticed that the HDMI audio device is missing.
    I've thinkered a bit and found out that when I unplug the hdmi cable in device manager's "Sound, video and game controllers" the Intel(R) Display Audio is removed from the list but when i put back the HDMI cable it dosent appear in that list. Instead of that in section System devices the High Definition Audio Controller have warning sign and have the following error message: This device cannot start. (Code 10).
    You can check it on this image below:
    However, when I reboot the MBP with the HDMI from my TV pluged into it it is all OK. So my guess is that it may be some driver service problem or some compatibillity problem with Cirrus Logic CS4208 (AB 93) audio controller. Currently it is working like this but It's very annoying to reboot each time when I wan't to connect it to my TV...
    Any suggestions how to fix this problem are welcomed.
    Thanks

  • *** dv4-1413tx No HDMI Audio to TV

    Please help.
    When I plug in the HDMI cable, I only get the Video on LCD TV screen. But there is no audio sound from LCD TV speakers. The audio only output thru dv4-1413tx speakers.
    I have tried changing the Default Sound to NVida HDMI audio - but still no audio. When click Test Sound, the audio bar is bumping up and down, but no audible sound from LCD TV speakers
    In fact, I notice that once I plug it the HDMI cable, after a short while, the LCD TV will beam up the desktop screen, and when I click on the Sound icon at System tray, it also indicates that it has switched to NVida HDMI audio output. But there is no audio sound on LCD TV speakers. I need to change the Default Sound to notebook speakers, then I get audio sound, and it is output from the notebook, but the video on LCD TV.
    I have also tried all HDMI ports of the LCD TV - only Video, NO Audio
    Why? I understand that HDMI is capable of transmitting video and audio right???
    Please advise how I am supposed to get HDMI audio to LCD TV speakers.......tks.

    may be the connector, Give this a try, take your playbook with the hdmi adapter to the place where it was purchased ad try it on the same model. you can see if t is the adapter or tv
