Heartbeat time outs some times caused by clocks-out-of-sync?

Heartbeat timeouts are usually caused by the java socket communication between the master and its slaves being slow (or dead).
This slowness in turn can be caused by a system being overloaded, something than can easily happen when we're running out of memory.
Memory problems can be caused by running against file system cache, which in turns eats up all memory, etc.
Some times the java socket connection between the master and remote hosts just is slow, also causing heartbeat timeouts.
Today I had a case where, in a multi-host situation, one of the remote hosts had his clock set five minutes early.
On the master this resulted in lots of 'slow getmessage' warnings telling you that it took longer than five seconds between the time the message was sent and that it was received. These timings use both the master and the remote host's current clock values.
In above case that always meant that every message was considered five minutes late.
Then, further on during the test the remote system's clock was reset and increased by five minutes.
That was it for the heartbeat timer, because it also uses the system's clock values.
So, if you run into heartbeat problems again, check your clocks.
In your 'xxxx-0.stdout.html' file you can verify, within reason, the clock settings, for instance:
11:52:19.013 11:47:17.605 task_run_all(): 395 tasks
11:57:39.004 11:57:39.000 Slow getMessage: hd2-0 1957 301404 REQUEST_SLAVE_STATISTICS
The first time value is the timestamp from the master at the time the message was received, the second is from the slave at the time that the message was sent, and as you can see, there is a five minute difference. The next message shows the now changed clock values.
The important message of this: make sure your clocks are synchronized in a multi-host environment.
Henk.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the search box.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — anonymize before posting.

Edited by: Rajneesh Kumar on Nov 18, 2008 6:02 AM

    Hi Rajneesh,
When you run time evaluation through PT60 schema TM00 you will get the following:
    1. Clock in and Clock out entry
All recorded time data documenting the actual attendance times or the actual absence times of employees.
Actual time has the opposite meaning of planned working time.
    Example:
According to the work schedule, an employee is supposed to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on December 3, 1999 (planned working time). The actual time data (actual times) from this day is shown below:
    8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Attendance
    2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Absence - doctor's appointment
    2. SKELETON TIME
skeleton time is a time account in which payment-related times of an employee are managed.
Skeleton time is determined in time evaluation.
    Example:
Skeleton time in the standard SAP System consists of:
u2022     Attendance, absence, and off-site work within a contractual period (start and end of working time)
u2022     Overtime hours that exceed approved overtime
    u2022     Paid break times
    3. FLEXTIME
Working time pattern in which employees can individually determine their own start and end times, as long as a certain number of hours is worked within a defined period of time each day.
    *4. FILL TIME
A specific period of working time described in time evaluation that lies within the contractual start and end of working time (excluding breaks).
If an employee works a flextime schedule and is also expected to be at work at certain times (core times), then fill time indicates the difference between the start and end of working time (without breaks) and the core times
    5. PRODUCTIVE TIME
The usable working time for a resource. The system determines the productive time using the working time data and utilization rate for the resource as follows:
Productive time = (End of working time - start of working time - break
    duration) x Rate of utilization / 100%.
You estimate the downtime at the resource using the utilization rate.
And the results of the following will depend on your settings...
Time evaluation will update the quotas and it will form time balances
I hope this information is enough to understand...for more clarifications revert to me..

  • Fast time of day clock

My time of day clock gains several minutes per day. It is set for automatic update but does so only when I bring up the preference. The computer is on nearly all the time so a dead battery doesn't seem likely. This topic was mentioned some time ago in this forum but I didn't see a final conclusion. Was this ever resolved?
This seems to be a recent phenomenon. I've made no recent system updates nor any other changes. It doesn't seem to do any harm but is an irritation.

i would think it would be hardware-related as well. i would try a couple more things. i would boot to open firmware holding apple-option-o-f and then type in the following commands--
    reset-nvram (hit return)
    set-defaults (hit return)
    reset-all (hit return)
the last command restarts the computer. i would also try a pmu reset to see if it helps. i'm not sure, but you seem to have a flat panel imac. if so, instructions for the reset are here. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=95165. this is, of course, if you feel comfortable going inside the computer. it is not that big of a deal. just make sure if you do this you ground yourself by touching metal and letting go of it before removing power cord and before touching the logic board. i am thinking maybe this could be the system clock, not the one viewed on the computer, but the crystal (or one of them, if there is more than one) on the logic board regulating frequency like a crystal in a watch would. i'm using the pc term. i'm assuming it's the same or pretty similar on a mac. • Mobo time of day clock

After 2 plus flawless years my mobo has developed its first issue. All of a sudden the time of day clock loses 20 minutes a day. Normally this would not be a big deal, but my banking software won't lock up with the server if the windows clock is more than an hour off. I've replaced the battrery, but that did not fix the issue. Am I missing something?

Quote from: syncman on 18-November-10, 01:08:27
I took a shot and invested $3 in another (2nd one) mobo battery. It fixed the "running slow" problem. Apparently the Energizer battery I replaced the OEM battery with was bad (low voltage) right out of the package. So much for the "Energizer bunny"!
Check date codes on replacement batteries.  A few months back I went to a local retailer to purchase new coin cell batteries and they were all expiring in 2010.  Bad.  Went to another shop and got the same thing expiring in 2015.

  • Flash/Youtube videos - sound out of sync over time -[CHROME]

Hi - i have some problems with videos in Chrome - when i watch videos - the sound gets out of sync from the video over time - in the start of the video the sound is perfect in sync - but after about 7 min the sound plays around 1-3 seconds before the video. it seems like the sound is playing at 100% speed but the video is only playing at 99% speed so the sound slowly gets more and more out of sync - have tried disableling flash in chrome in chrome://plugins but no result - have updated drivers

A/V sync is hard, and there are hundreds of ways to encode a video.  Adobe provides guidance on how to best publish content to ensure that it consistently plays back well, but that's an uphill battle.
A direct link to the problem video is the most useful information you could provide in this case, along with details about your system.  It would also be useful to know if the A/V sync problem goes away if you disable hardware acceleration, as described in the video troubleshooting guide.

  • Any IDEA of Getting Server Time & RUn JavaScript Clock

    Hi ,
Any idea of getting Server Time & running javascript Clock
    I tried using ..
    var tDate=<%=new java.util.Date()%>;
    But it is not working
    Plz help

You can create a date in javascript like this
new Date(year, month, day, hours, minutes, seconds, milliseconds) You don't have to supply all the parameters (this is javascript after all)
Getting it from java, into javascript...
    <%
    java.util.SimpleDateFormat sdf = new java.util.SimpleDateFormat("yyyy,MM,dd,HH,mm,ss,SS");
    Date now = new Date();
    String sNow = sdf.format(now);
    %>
    var tDate = new Date(<%=sNow %>)

  • 1 hour clip in time-line goes gradually out of sync

    Hello,
I captured a one hour mini-DV tape to a G4 Powerbook as one clip in FCP 4.5. As it plays in the timeline, it gradually goes out of sync and eventually goes way out of sync. Why would this happen? The tape itself plays fine in the camera and as it was captured it appeared to be in in sync all the way through. Thanks.
    Jonathan

Mini dv does not lock the audio to the picture, so over a period of time you'll get sync drift. Check to see that your sequence settings for audio match the camera's. FCP defaults at 48k. if you shot at 32k (12 bit), than on a long capture your audio will drift out of sync. You can create a sequence that is 32k, that might help but it looks like you'll have to move the audio track possibly in sections to get it back into sync.

  • Audio and Video are out of sync after time remaping.

After I did the time remap, audio and video are completely out of sync.
    I don't know what I did wrong.Please HELP.
I did a short video(43seg) to explain myself better
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0PQEoZvGbk

ha. having the video is killer. there are a couple ways to do this. i'd recommend using the blade tool (tap b twice to get the one that cuts all tracks), make a cut through the audio and the video at the points where you want it sped up, then right click the clip itself (which should be linked with audio and video) and then just set it to whatever speed you want. it'll have the same effect. you might have to adjust boundaries or you can select ripple.
alternatively, it looks like you just needed to do the same thing to the audio that you did to the video in that clip you uploaded. you can always relink things by selecting the audio and video and hitting cmnd+L.
    hope that helps.

The clock is set properly. Can you assist me in solving this error? This happens in a PC computer running WIndows 7.

  • TS3899 Sending a meeting invite from Exchange 2007 account located in Central Time from Outlook 2010 Email Client located in Eastern Time cause meeting to show up 1 hour early on iPhone

Sending a meeting invite from Exchange 2007 account located in Central Time from Outlook 2010 Email Client located in Eastern Time cause meeting to show up 1 hour early on iPhone.

The meeting invite is being sent from a Computer through the Outlook 2010 Email Client. Both Computer and Outlook 2010 are set to Eastern Time. The OWA (Outlook Web Access) for the 2007 account is set to Eastern Time. The Outlook 2010 Email Client is connected to an Exchange 2007 account and the Exchange server for the exchange 2007 account is located in Chicago (Central Time) and is set to Central Time. When the meeting invite is sent from the Outlook 2010 Client the recipient receives the invite on his/her iPhone(set and located in the Eastern Time Zone) and a mime-attachment.ics file is attached to the meeting invite email. There is no info displayed in the subject line or message body. If the iPhone user opens the attachment it displays the meeting date and time and any other info that was sent from Outlook. The Outlook 2010 user sets the meeting for 10:00am to 11:00am. when the meeting invite mime-attachment.ics file is opened on the iPhone the meeting is displayed as 9:00am to 10:00am. if the iPhone user adds the ics file to his/her calendar it adds a meeting event that is scheduled 1 hour earlier than it is supposed to be. I had the iPhone user to set Time Zone support on and off and there is no change.

  • Quick time export Audio out of sync

Exporting a quicktime movie (a 30 min timeline HDV 720P) for importation into Compressor, parts of the audio loose sync. The timeline is in sync.
Using latest versions of FCP and Quicktime. Pro 2.8 dual Qaud with 10gb ram
It appears to be intermittent as I have exported other similar timelines with out problem. I am trying compressor directly but as we all know that may take most of the day even using the clusters on the mac

This out of sync problem could be related to the
klyte codec I installed which may have created problem. or something went
wrong in audio capture as it should have been a sterio file as you
    mentioned.
For some, the K-Lite CODEC Pack works fine. For many more, and this might well depend on which of its elements one installs, it is a total disaster. Again, depending on what has been installed, a simple uninstall of the elements might work. In some other cases, it will take much more work to clean up after it.
My best advice is to only install CODEC's on a "need" basis. I also attempt to go to the source for my CODEC's, even if that means passing up a free one, for a paid one. If at all possible, I want no hacked, or reverse-engineered CODEC's on any of my systems.
Good luck, and do please try a Project with the proper Preset, and footage captured either in Pr or HDVSplit. Let's see if, with Pinnacle our of the way, you get better results. Please report.
