Heavy mail users

We have a few users that receive 100+ emails daily.
These users seem to experience issues with email synchronization stopping. Our workaround is to teach them how to delete and recreate their connection to the DS then mail flows again.
We are testing several mobile devices as we suspect it is poor phone performance causing the issue.
Does anyone know of any DS limitations for mail volume that could contribute to the issue.
Let me know
Thanks
Christa

Crappy consumer grade phones are the issue. BYOD does not mean Bring Your Own Dreck ( Or does it? )
iPhones ( any of them ) work flawlessly - and they are the reference mobile platform Novell uses for DS Mobility. Droid 4 and most of the similar Samsung "business" class android devices work fine - because "Corporate E-Mail" is part of their feature set. Same for the tablets. All the rest are hit or miss, largely depending on the flavor of e-mail client they are using. On these devices, getting the Android factory e-mail client - while not so feature rich - it usually works.
Also many of these cheaper phones incorporate network compression, or battery saving technologies that "fake" persistent network connections and this can cause a lot of issues.
Also reducing the number of days you keep on the phone can help with crappy devices. I think this is largely the issue, the little database in the phone gets corrupt and then its game over. So maintaining less days of mail can provide more stability. To a point.
We have several hundred devices we support and 98% of them we set up and never have issues with. Virtually all the problems are with these LG and HTC other devices which do not really support corporate e-mail.

  • Hello heavy Email Users -- Re: Apple Mail

Use Outlook 2011 now. Just emailed Apple requesting that they incorporate Notes, Address Book and Calendar into Apple Mail, like Outlook does. As a heavy email user for business, I would love to use Apple Mail, but not having Notes (like in Outlook) available to look up the tons of info I have stores there or calendar and Address Book, makes it hard to use Apple Mail.
Any "heavy" Email business users using Mail? Thanks!

Yes. It works fine with MS Exchange servers.
Mail's integration with all other native OS X apps is seamless, and I have no use for Outlook.

paulcb, you're a genius, it worked, thank you so much, you don't know how much stress you have taken off my shoulders, I am constantly on my email in my iphone everyday.  Thanks a million, take care. Robert.

I dont know how erase a specific message of a user so I make a copy of this folders user Inbox, Sent , etc, and I try to delete this user and make a new user with the same login.
The problem is if I check the Email settings in my server the user is still there, so I dont know how delete the user for complete, specially from the mail server.
I erase his account in user manager, but is not deleted from the mail server.
I need help, Im a new user of MAC OS Server. TXS

I'm experiencing the same issue, can't delete the user. But I've read all the articles and cyradm won't let me delete the user. I've added my short username (chrisr) to the imapd.conf file. And here's what I'm doing:
    % su chrisr ./cyradm

  • How to create a mail user agent by using JAVA...

my lecturer has asked me to create a mail user agent by using JAVA , i have no idea how to start this assignment......

What part are you stuck on? Creating a GUI (look at the Swing tutorials), or writing the talk-to-mail-server bit? Look at Java Mail, or the email RFCs.

  • How to configure Mail Users aliases

    Hello,
i have installed OS X Lion Server and after after a short while i was very dissapointed.
One of my goals was to get a easy GUI to adminstrate my mail Server.
So, after installing Server App i configure and activate a Mail Server.
Then i wanted to add aliases to my User and tried to start The Workgroup Manager.
Within i searched for a the mail tab in order to configure the User Aliases.
But there was no Mail tab there, so i have to create the aliases through the command line (edit /etc/postfix/aliases, newaliases).
I cannot believe that there is no gui for configuring mail users. Is this really so or is it in another place or have i forgotten to check or to do something else.
How do you setting up and configure mail and mail users in OS X Lion?
I am looking forward to you answers and expiriences,
    Greetings,
    Peter

    @menzbua
You can configure mail aliases, the same way you did in Mac OS 10.6 Server... Make sure you have Installed Server Tools for 10.7. Run Workgroup Manager. Under the User, Select Short names on the 2nd or 3 line add [email protected] etc .etc

  • Script that enables mail users and kicks out two csv files

I am working on a script that will mainly be used as a scheduled task to enabled mailuser by calling the update-recipient command.
But before it calls that command it will get for various issues that can cause errors.
    Missing PrimarySMTP
Display name having a space at front or back.
The external email address being blank.
I have IF statements setup to check for those and then call a function that will save into an array the issue for that user.
    Here is the script

    .DESCRIPTION
This script mail-enables Synced Mail Users and creates a CSV report of mail users that were enabled.
    The following is shown:
    * Report Generation Time
    .PARAMETER SendMail
Send Mail after completion. Set to $True to enable. If enabled, -MailFrom, -MailTo, -MailServer are mandatory
    .PARAMETER MailFrom

    .PARAMETER MailTo
Email address to send to. Passed directly to Send-MailMessage as -To
    .PARAMETER MailServer
SMTP Mail server to attempt to send through. Passed directly to Send-MailMessage as -SmtpServer
    .PARAMETER ScheduleAs
Attempt to schedule the command just executed for 10PM nightly. Specify the username here, schtasks (under the hood) will ask for a password later.

  • Adding mail users from Portal 'sign me up' facility

When users access the Portal for the first time, they have the opportunity to sign up as new users.
This will create their user id and they can then access IM or Calendar quite happily.
They can't, however, access mail. Adding mail users appears only to be possible via the command line tools. This essentially means that it's not practical to have users sign themselves up!
Is there any integration module/howto out that describes how to let users sign up to mail and the other services and not just an inconvenient subset?

If you create a Mail service (have a look at the sample one provided with Identity Server 6.1 in /opt/SUNWam/samples/integration) you can specify default values for the relevant attributes, then specify that the service you create is a required service in the organization your users area being created in.
Haven't tried it myself but it should work.

  • Recurse OUs to e-mail users.

Hello community, hopefully I am not attacked by MFCSharp on this and told how stupid or ignorant I am...
I have a small script that needs to e-mail users in each OU within AD; mind you, these OUs are nested and therefore require a recursive search, however, I am not very familiar with this process and do not have the time to sit and figure this one out.
Currently I have a forEach statement targeted at an array of two parent OUs, however, since these users are nested within the parent OUs I need to tell the job where to search other than the parent OU -- how would I do that?
    Thanks in advance!

    ... -searchscope subtree
Exactly what I was missing! I had everything else.
    Thank you very much, RWE!
And boy am I glad MFC... is not around for that answer. He would have turned this into a 4-page argument how your answer is rubbishell code. I appreciate your prompt and effective response.
Oh, don't worry, I'm sure the troll will drop in here to blather on about nothing. It's using a new account at the moment.

  • Mail users have spam sent to their secondary SMTP addresses forwarded to their personal e-mail addresses- Exchange 2010

We currently have a spam issue relating to the secondary SMTP e-mail addresses of all our Mail Users.
Example: Peter Smith has an AD account on our company.com domain and an associated external e-mail address ([email protected]) i.e. he has an AD account ([email protected]) with Mail User Exchange attributes so that he can logon
to our SharePoint server. However, this AD account also becomes a fully functional secondary SMTP address and all spam sent to [email protected] also gets forwarded to [email protected]
To mitigate this issue, I have added this secondary e-mail address to the "Recipient filtering properties > Block messages sent to the following recipients" in Hub Transport/Anti Spam.
    Two questions:
    1. Is there an easy way to delete the secondary SMTP addresses of mail users? I was unable to (it just reappeared shortly after deletion)
    2. What is the PS command to export a list of all secondary SMTP e-mail addresses OF MAIL USERS and then adding this list to "Recipient filtering properties > Block messages sent to the following recipients". I could manually add them
in EMC but there are quite a few of them...
    Many thanks for your help!

Now that I understand what's happening, let me see if we can get a more accurate solution for you.  So your mail users (Exchange calls them mail-enabled users, as opposed to mailbox enabled users, who have mailboxes) have SharePoint access (with the
@company.com address), but have actual mailboxes externally (the actual end-domain is inconsequential).  You want users of these systems to stop receiving emails on the company.com namespace, but to receive them from only your SharePoint system.
    A "textual diagram" is below:
SharePoint (to Exchange mailbox owner) ==> Exchange hub (using company.com) ==> Exchange mailbox
SharePoint (to External mail user) ==> Exchange hub (using company.com) ==> Exchange mail contact ==> External system (using external SMTP address
External Messaging system (to External mail user, using company.com address used by SharePoint) ==> Exchange hub =XX=> Block delivery
You wish to stop the third of these from happening.  If your SharePoint system used non-routable addresses (such as company.local) and all of your mail users had only these addresses added to their accounts for internal mail precossing (as the
internal name used by Exchange), this would solve your issue.  The question becomes how to deploy this sort of address.
If these are the ONLY mail contacts in your organization, the solution is simple - you almost had it above, but may have missed seeing it.  Policies are applied on a priority basis, with the default policy applying only if no others apply.  Since
these accounts are considered "Contacts with external e-mail addresses", you can create a policy for your entire organization that handles only these accounts.  You don't need to apply it to a single OU, if your mail enabled accounts aren't
in a single OU.  (If they are, of course, feel free to apply it only there.)  You can create the policy and apply it to the organization, but only to those objects that are "Contacts with external e-mail addresses".  That way, it won't
affect any of your Exchange mailboxes (current or future).
    Does this help?
(BTW, one minor correction - your third statement about mail contacts is incorrect - Exchange sees no major difference between mail contacts and mail enabled accounts - and in my experience they are both addressable by the internal address.)

  • Procmail trouble migrating to Mavericks - everything delivered to /var/mail/ user

My old hardware died Thanksigving afternoon, so I hastily migrated to the new machine I'd already been setting up with Mavericks. One post-migration problem was that user mail was delivered into /var/mail/<username> instead of into Maildirs. mail.log said it was delivering to procmail, but that's not where mail showed up. Removing (renaming) each user's .forward and .procmailrc files fixed this at the cost of turning off procmail's automatic filing.
In the old setup, each user had a .forward file that said |/usr/bin/procmail, also a .procmailrc that started with
    # This causes delivery in maildir format.
    DEFAULT=$HOME/Maildir/
In each user's home directory, Maildir was a symlink to /var/spool/imap/dovecot/mail/<some long hashcode>. Back in 10.6, each user owned their mail directory and all its contents.
In Mavericks, the mail directories have moved to /Library/Server/Mail/Data/mail/<some long hashcode>. Those directories are completely owned by _dovecot. I repointed the symlinks, but wondered if the different ownership might be a problem.
One seeming bug I found was that line 45 of /Library/Server/Mail/Config/dovecot/conf.d/10-mail.conf says
    mail_location = maildir:/Library/Server/Mail/Data/mail/%u
Since %u is <username> and not <some long hashcode>, I think that should say
    mail_location = maildir:/Library/Server/Mail/Data/mail/users/%u
But changing it and restarting dovecot had no effect. Only disabling procmail made mail go where it should.
My bottom line question is, how can I get procmail working again?

Possibly I've answered my own question-and-a-half. My mail is being sieved. For the record:
Setting mail_debug=yes in /Library/Server/Mail/Config/dovecot/conf.d/10-logging.conf put some helpful notes into /Library/Logs/Mail/mail-debug.log. Searching for "sieve" in there revealed that dovecot was looking for per-user sieves as /Library/Server/Mail/Data/rules/<long-hash-code>/dovecot.sieve. That path was specified with %u in the dovecot config, so%u must really mean <long-hash-code>, not <username> as I thought. (That was the half-question.)
So apart from having to create those directories and populate them, sieve was already configured and running as a dovecot plugin.
