Help, cannot upgrade to Windows 10 on Lenovo Y50-70

Hello everyone, I'm using a Y50-70. From yesterday until now, I cannot upgrade it to Windows 10. I'm using Windows 8.1 Single Language shipped with it. I've tried many ways: - Use wuauclt.exe /updatenow to force Windows Update download Windows 10. After few minutes "Preparing for installation", it says "Update failed. Please try again" - Use Media Creation Tool to update. I tried to choose "Upgrade this PC", no luck. Always generic error "Windows 10 installation has failed" When I choose to create USB bootable disc, I run setup and after processing to 24%, it stopped with same error "Something happened". - Follow other suggestions, I've changed Region in Control Panel to "English (United States)". Same error again. - Even when I downloaded original ISO from Microsoft website and create a bootable USB, it always "Something happened". No more info. These things are driving me mad. Anyone has successfully upgrade your Y50-70 to Windows 10, please help or share your way to do. Thank you very much.

This is kind of disconcerting. I did the reserve and did ALL the latest 8.1 updates and then finally my Windows 10 said it was ready. I read an article that said to right click on the box window that appears when you reserve and then choose check your upgrade status and after that loads, you can also check your compatability report to make sure there are no compatibility issues. I have done all that. I have also backed up all important files to an external HDD in case of failure. I don't know if any of the above will help the OP, but it may list any possible compatibility issues. Maybe your original version of Windows 8.1 is not activated? you can go to Control Panel > System to see that your copy of windows is indeed activated as if not activated, it may cause a failure. That could be a good reason to use the OKR feature. Lastly, seeing that you are overseas, is your 8.1 version a US English version of Windows? If not, perhaps that is why all the tools are failing because maybe you have to download and install whatever previous type installation you had before with Windows 8.0/8.1? I would think performing the Compatibility check as described above may tell you if you are trying to update with a wrong version? Just a thought. Now then, speaking of OKR or other possible problems updating such as I read the latest BIOS update could also cause failures, but specifically speaking about OKR, there are numerous threads out there with all kinds of advice, etc but for me it is too much information and some information may be outdated. So I have a few questions maybe someone can help me BEFORE I leap into the Win 10 arena? 1. I know after upgrading to Win 10, I have supposedly 1 month to downgrade back to 8.1 using the Windows downgrade function. The biggest quuestion I have is, will upgrading to Windows 10 delete my OKR option? 2. I have the Y50-70 Touch UHD with 500 GB SSD. What is the best method of backing up the OKR media for just in case? I have seen several cloning programs mentioned and the Pendrive thread, but I am just wondering what is the best and safest way to ensure the OKR works.I have a 2 TB external HDD I am currently using to perform manual backups with so maybe I could clone the SSD and if so, best software option?   3. Or is the OKR really not necessary if I have the Windows Media Creator tool on the USB drive (I have one for Win 8.1 and one for Win 10)? Is using the Media Creator Tool method better or worse than using OKR? 4. Lastly, in case of catastrophic failure, are discs available from Lenovo? I have found nowhere in the support section that mentions being able to purchase recovery discs and no, my Novo button does not give an option to burn my own discs. All I can do is make a System image file backup and honestly, I don't even understand that. Does that system image file then restore my OKR if I choose to restore from that system image? I'm sorry for so many questions but as I stated there are so many threads on the partitioning issues and restoring OKR and the DIY Pendrive thread to me is very confusing and seems to contradict itself in several steps. I just want to be certain of having a functioning computer if the update fails or I end up with the BSOD. This is my first time using a computer with UEFI and OKR that does NOT allow the burning of recovery files. I have gone through all the WIN 10 FAQs but they do not address these issues. Anyways, thanks in advance if anyone has any answers to my disjointed and probably silly questions. As I get older it seems computers are getting more difficult to understand or maybe I'm just resistant to change lol Thanks again and good luck to the OP with his issues! And I hope I don't have the same problems but I will let you know if I do! EDITED TO ADD: Does anyone know if the nVidia Driver issue with Win 10 forced driver updates has been resolved? Or, if I update, does that mean I will have those issues that were discussed on the web between the forced drivers from microsoft instead of the PROPER drivers from nVidia? Or is it best to sit tight and wait for resolution? I do not use dual monitors so that problem won't affect me but I also heard some nVidia issues of bad flicker were also reported. I checked the Windows compatibility tool and no the GeForce GTX960M is NOT listed so for me that means it is currently unknown if compatible. This is another reason I would like to know if the OKR will still function, just in case I lose my screen during update. lol

  • G500 - Cannot upgrade to Windows 8.1

    Hello there,
I got my brand new Lenovo G500  i5-3230M last week and I cannot upgrade to Windows 8.1
The procedure works fine until the Microsoft and Skydrive Registration part but when it reboots I only get a blank screen.
I've tried this 3 times on a clean Windows 8 installation with all Windows Updates installed and I always get the same.
I've been told by a colleague of mine that it might have to do with the ATI RADEON 8570M graphics card and its drivers incompatibility with Windows 8.1 but I'd like a more expert opinion.
Please guide me on what I need to do to go through with the upgrade. Thank you very much

I am fixing this computer for a friend and it make me wished he has bought a Mac. Its ridiculous how somethig as simple as an update can worked so wrong....
    Anyhow:
After some searching in the web I was able to fix this problem.
First you have to load windows in Safe mode
This is done by pressing f8 during bootup
Then you will find a menu giving you different options for loading restore points. It was under three options of menu (which I dont really remember, may be something like boot mode) but it clearly stated "Safe Mode"
After that I get was able to get in windows, wnt to control panel, System, System, Device Manager and disable Intel HD Graphics
Reboot the system in normal mode and it worked.
Sadly I have many devices errors in my Lenovo Solution Center
I will try to find the drivers and keep you posted

  • Help Needed :- Upgrading to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 on W540

I have tried repeatidly to upgrade to Windows 81 from windows 8 and it fails I get the driver power state failure error and error codes 0xc1900101 0x40017 .
After 4 failures , i deleted drivers for Prinfing (pdf / printer drivers etc )  and some others i didn't note tried to do the install and it worked, except the first time i rebooted after logging in , it would not boot into windows 8,1 driver it came up with the driver error messages again and i was given the option to reset to factory defaults and i did.
After restoring to factory defaults i tried the upgrade and it failed again.
So can you help me , in how do i upgrade to 8.1

"I bought a ThinkCentre M83 which had a downgraded windows licence (windows 8.1 pro downgraded to windows 7 professional)." -
"... Now you want to upgrade to Windows 8.1 that was originally offered when you purchased the computer.  The only way that I am aware of that would be possible is to purchase a retail version of the newer operating system. "
I would say either you did not understand it well / or you gave the wrong info. If Lenovo Think(Pad/Centre) has Windows 7 Pro downgrade preload (but Win 8 / 8.1 Pro licence):
    - user gets media for Windows 8/8.1 Pro included with your Think(Pad/Centre) (I think until December)
    - or now you must order it here (free if entitled)

  • Upgrading to Windows 8 - Lenovo u460

I wish to upgrade to windows 8 on my Lenovo u460 but I'm worried about driver compatibility issues. Can I just carry over the same win7 drivers onto windows 8? I'm mostly concerned about my nvidia 305m/Intel HD switchable graphics driver. Can someone point me to where I can get the correct drivers for my laptop? I looked through some of the lenovo resources but I couldn't find what I needed.
    Thanks.

    hi de1337ed,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Windows 8 has a built-in driver database where it detects and installs the right driver for your system, In an event that it doesn't detect your devices correctly, in this case, the Intel HD+GeForce 305M, you need to install the Intel HD Graphics first then install the Nvidia drivers
Intel® HD Graphics Driver for Windows 7* and Windows 8* 64 (zip)
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_drivers.html
If you can't get the Nvidia drivers to install, you need to mod the inf file and add the device ID (see link below):
Modding 101 - Missing Optimus Device IDs
    Hope this helps

  • I cannot Upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7 using Windows Anytime Upgrade

A little while ago I bought an activation and serial key so I could upgrade my Windows Vista to Windows 7
My PC is FULLY compatible and I checked 3 times with Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor ,
I launched Windows Anytime Upgrade and there was no option to upgrade only to go to the website and comapre different versions of Vista
I was a bit fustrated and I have been looking for an answer all afternoon
If someone could help me that would be amazing
    System Details
    HP Pavillion Slimline
    Windows Vista ( 32- Bit )
    Dual Core Proccessor
    2.5Ghz

What is needed to upgade to Windows 7 is an install disk.  You can borrow one or download the one needed, depending on the key purchased.  Windows Anytime Upgrade will only upgrade in the product line that is installed.  Which version of Windows 7 did you purchase?  And do you need/what 32bit or 64bit?

  • Cannot upgrade to Windows 8.1

    Hi.
I have just purchased a 2nd hand Helix with warranty until mind 2016, running Win 8 Pro.
When I tried to upgrade to Win 8.1 I recieved a message saying that this version I have is not eligible for upgrade to Win 8.1. I checked and found that the version of Windows I have is Verified, but has an expiry date in Oct 2015. The worst news is when I called Miscroft and was advised that my version of windows is not genuine!
Shouldn't the Helix come preinstalled with OEM Win 8 Pro (at least thats what it says on the box) ? I since tried to create a recovery drive in an effort to reset the machine to its original condition but without success (i could create the drive but seems the refresh process doesnt recognize it...)
My question is: Is there away to reset my Helix to its original condition with genuine windows 8 Pro so that I could upgrade to 8.1 and win 10 subsequently?
    Thanks
    Quoc
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Not all Versions of Windows 8 Pro are able to directly update to Windows 8.1 Pro.
Not even all Helix are sold with the Windows 8 Pro Edition.
So I think this would help you to install Windows 8.1 Pro on your Helix: Upgrade genuine windows 8 pro to windows 8.1 I'ts surely not the problem that your Windows is not genuine.
To get your recent Windows Key you can use e.x. Key Finder 2.0
To Install Windows 8.1 Pro you can use the Key GCRJD-8NW9H-F2CDX-CCM8D-9D6T9

  • Can Anyone Help? Upgrade with Windows Issue

I bought my daughter a Ipod nano for Christmas this past year (2005). Everything worked great until the new 6.0 upgrade. We downloaded the upgrade last week and it was completed successfully. Yet when I go to my desktop and try to go to the site I get nothing at all. I can't even access the itunes site. Can't even access it through apple.com. I get the download message. I spent hours on the phone with apple trying to figure out the problem. Uninstalled and reinstalled the whole thing several times. Even went back to my original CD that came with the ipod and still get message that I need to upgrade. I was told
( by an apple rep) I have to do a msconfig start up on my computer for the upgrade to work on Windows. Upon doing that I can access my library but access to store is denied. I called apple again and was told they have no idea what is going on but it has to do with the upgrade and windows. I was basically told I may want to consider selling my Ipod, by a apple tech. Is anyone else having this problem. I just want to know how to get the upgrade using windows xp and be able to use it without having to msconfig start and then still not be able to access anything.
I have tried everything, from shutting down my firewall, anitvirus to rebooting my computer back to before I ever put Itunes in it since I was unable to un-install it with the add/remove on my computer.
Can anyone give me some advice on how to get this to work with windows? It would be greatly appreciated since I have a few friends also having the same issues. Thanks

Don't give up yet. At this point I would suggest cleaning your system with ipod and itunes software and reinstall. I know you tried this before but I'm going to give you more detailed instructions. Please read them carefully first before doing them and ask questions if you don't understand them. Also don't skip anything and be careful to not skip part of a step.
    1. Uninstall itunes and ipod software
    2. Reboot your PC
    3. Re-download the itunes installer and QT and save this installer to your desktop
    4. Go to C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations. You should see folders like {06EB3288-C5F4-4C73-8EEE-AC798668FF66}
    5. Look in each of these folders for itunes.msi and delete the folder. Be careful to only delete the folders containing itunes.msi
    6. Clean out your the following folders, Delete as much as you can in these folders except for the folders Cookies, History, Temporary Internet Files.
    a. C:\windows\temp (if one exists)
    b. C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Temp
Sometimes installers will pick up old files or won’t delete their temporary files.
    Also delete c:\program files\itunes & c:\program files\ipod
    7. Go to http://www.download.com/3000-2094-881470.html and download the regcleaner. Unpack it and run it. This is a nice utility that will delete broken registry entries and create a file with them. This way if it deletes anything needed you can add it back. Note I never had to do this with using it for many years. Also it doesn't list XP but you'll be fine. I run XP on both.
    8. Reboot your PC.
    9. It wouldn't hurt to scan your PC for viruses at this point.
    10. Now try to go and install everything again. I'd do QT first then follow with itunes. Remember to disable virus/firewall/privacy/web accelerators before launching the install.
You don't have to try the QT if you don't want to but if you do make sure you do it first before itunes and ipod software.
I hope this helps! Let me know what happens.

  • Help needed upgrading from Windows 8 to XP for Conexant Sound Driver

I upgraded from Windows 8 to XP and got everything else working except for the sound. I have scoured the internet and tried many versions of drivers from windows 7 ones to XP ones with no success. I tried older driver´s version as well.  After a reboot there is no sound device loaded in the control panel for sound. I have a C845D-SP4327SL  model laptop. Does anyone have any process to make this work that is proven? Thanks

hi. if you want to that your sound device was in control panel after a reboot , here is only one solution for that, all you have to do is upgrade first  hdaudio bus controler. Driver must be copied first from computer with Vista os. if your xp is 32bit you have to copy this driver from any Vista x32 if  your xp is 64 bit then Vista must be x64 as well.  driver for forced upgrade through device menager you will find in any vista os  Windows--> System32-->DriverStore-->FileRepository-->hdaudbus.inf9689af2f
once copied that file from any computer equiped with Windows Vista , copy it on your desktop, next step go to the device menager  and find in system device tab 2 entries UUA High definition audio and update both by forced update. You have to point exactly where is located your driver copied from vista. after this update your sound device will be in the control panel and device manager always and permanent.
I had the same problem with my xp instaled on satelite p500 and only this solution solved my problem with disappearing sound device after reboot.
ps. if this solution help you please tell us about it.

  • Cannot upgrade to Windows XP Pro from XP Home

    Hi there,
I am having trouble upgrading to XP Pro.
I have a Satellite A40-702, using a full version of XP pro it gets to exactly 70% of copying files before installation then I get a message saying cannot copy dxdiagn.dll. I can skip the file but then I have the same problem with other .dll's.
Any suggestions would be grately appreciated.
    Many thanks, Kris.

Hi, I am no expert, but maybe try to copy the disk with Windows first, just to eliminate the possibility that it might be scratched or something.
Second of all, does the XP Pro have SP2 integrated on the disk? I could not install Windows on my M70 because the one already pre-installed had SP2, whereas the Install CD had only SP1.
    Hope it helps.
    Cheers,
    Mike.

I am out of ideas re: what to try next........PLEASE help!

  • Help Lion upgrade with Windows partitian

I do not know what to do.
Message says 'This disk doesn't use the GUID Partition Table scheme.  Use Disk Utility to change the partition scheme.  Select the disc, choose the Partition tab, select the volume scheme and then click options.'  I don't know what to do with these instructions.  THANKS

You apparently did not partition your drive properly. You will have to do so and that will erase the data, so you need to first backup your hard drive, and this includes your Windows partition. Then do the following:
Open Boot Camp Assistant and remove your Windows partition.
    Drive Preparation for Lion
    1. Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button. When the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
    5. After Lion has been installed it will restart to the Setup Assistant. Upon completing the registration information you will have an opportunity to restore your files from another hard drive, another Mac, or a Time Machine backup. You can restore your files at this time or wait and use Migration Assistant at a later time.
    6. You can now use Boot Camp Assistant to set up your Windows partition so you can restore your Windows backup.

Can photoshop elements 6 & premiere 4 be upgraded for use on a windows 8 Lenovo Y50-70 touch? The upgrade option on the Adobe site doesn't list my software version?

    Hi Rosera,
This is bad and I am sorry to hear that you are running into these issues.
Let me connect with you, so right now, the current state is that you have installed copy of PSE 8 in trial on your windows 7 machine, and when you are trying to enter the serial number from your PSE 8 Box, it is saying the serial number to be invalid?
It might sound pretty obvious, but please make sure that you are entering the serial number correctly and of PSE 8(in case you bought a PEPE box)?
Have you tried the steps mentioned below by Barbara?
If possible, you can send me the serial number through PRIVATE MESSAGE and I can check it on my end that whether the serial number is indeed invalid or that the issue is with your machine?
    Regards,
