Help on Specs Purchase new w530

Question

All -
I wanted to thank you, I've learned quite allot just by reading many of your post. I am at a point where I am going to purchase a w530. I don't have a price range, but I don't want to waste money either. The one thing I am considering is a RAID option,  Apparently - you are forced to get  pay for two drives if you enable this option. I have learned from all of you that I can save a great deal of money but not upgrading, RAM, SATA,drives through lenovo  and just doing it all my self.  I am not a developer (use to be), just a normal user, some mathematical modeling, some gaming(maybe), who knows what the future will hold. Please let me know if I should change any of the specs. Thank you!!

 aboutthe blue tooth - is the antenna removable?
Also is everyone getting the larger battery?
Are the extended warranty worth it?

Unless you KNOW you need RAID, I wouldn't mess with it. It's just more complication you're unlikely to need.
I would concur with the other response concerning the battery. The battery life on the W530 is awesome in what I'd consider regular use. I often leave my power brick at work during the week and run off battery only when I surf and do light tasks at night when I'm home. I seldom go below 50% even after 3 or 4 hours of such use. I did go for the 9-cell battery thinking you can never have too much battery. I'm not sorry I did, but this is the first laptop I've had where the smaller battery would truly be a feasible option. If you don't expect to have extensive usage away from power, you can reasonably save a few bucks and go with the 6-cell battery.
I've found little use for the Nvidia graphics on this machine. If you need it for game playing, it might be worth the money to upgrade. The only use I've found for it is when converting videos, and even then you need to have the right software to take advantage of it. Pretty impressive when it kicks in, but that hasn't been often in my use. As I recall, the upgrade to the K2000M was pretty expensive. You might want to re-evaluate whether this money might be better spent elsewhere.
I had a color sensor on my W700. It did do something with the colors, though when it stopped working I didn't find myself in any great hurry to have it fixed. I don't do graphics work so totally accurate color isn't that important to me. I decided not to go for the color sensor on the W530. I don't miss it.
