Help! Trouble Mounting Toshiba SD-M1401 DVD-ROM on Sun E250 w/Solaris 10

I'm hoping someone can help me here...I bought a used Toshiba DVD-ROM for my E250 off Ebay, and Im trying to get it installed and mounted. I'm having some wacky problems:
The driver powers up and physically seems fine. Ejects, etc. But I can't mount it!
This is the output from the iostat -En command:

Ive attempted to update the firmware via the instructions on Sun's website:

But the reply from the optdload program is that the drive is already up to date.
I dont know what else to try! Could the drive be bad?
Thanks in advance for any help,

BTW, I should mention that this DVD was swapped in to replace a CD-ROM, which worked fine. The DVD-R is on the same SCSI port, on the same cable.

  • Playing DVD+RW discs in DVD-Rom drive

    I've got a Toshiba SD-M1222 DVD-rom drive. I recently bought a new separate domestic DVD+RW machine.
Discs recorded on the DVD+RW play back no problem in my other domestic DVD players, but when I try to play them in my DVD-Rom on the PC, I get a 'disc not recognised' message, even though I have set the recording up to be compatible with other players.
Is there a way I can get DVD+RW discs to play on this DVD-Rom drive?

    Hi
Sorry but there is no way to change it. Those are two different formats. I have the same situation with my Satellite.
If you want to have more information about DVD formats google a little bit around.

  • TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R2312 can't see blank DVD - HELP!

HI all - I have a TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R2312. It reads and plays CDs and DVDs but I'm trying to burn a video onto  a DVD and when I place the blank DVD R into it to burn, I get a "Please insert media" message. The DVD-R that I'm putting in is brand new so there shouldn't be any problem there. It's driving me nuts!! It may well be that this is simply not a DVD burner - I may just be that stupid. If not, is there any way to fix this problem?

  • Help-DVD/DVD-Rom Trouble

We have a cinderrella DVD that has a dvd-rom game in it. How do I get the iMac to recognize the dvd-rom game within the DVD itself. When we click on the game in the menue, it tells us to put the disk into the dvd-rom drive. is is not possible to play a disc that contains both formats on it? when you initially put the disc in, it automatically starts it as a dvd. Any suggestions?
    Thanks a bunch!

Funny thing, I asked Disney about this with one of their other films. Actually I yelled at them. They told me it should play just fine, even though it clearly stated otherwise on the box. On the bright side though, the programs that are capable of running this feature in Windows (this ability is not native to Windows in anyway), eat up alot of space, resources, and just are not really good. However, there might be something avalible on GNU license as open source for Mac OS. Try Sourceforge.net; however, try to be exact as possible when searching their system, as they have a lot of stuff.

  • H520s Windows 8 DVD-ROM disabled and error 19 - registry corrupt Help please!

Hi all and hoping for help with H520s, 64bit  OS Windows 8. Error message showing  problem with DVD-RAM Mat**bleep**a SW820; this is disabled in the device manager, and I can't use the DVD drive as a result. (yellow triangle)
Have tried windows fix utility on pc ; drivers are up to date. Have disabled, enabled etc. But it's still error 19
This was working perfectly until a couple of days ago when Microsoft ran a mega load of updates, including critical windows 8 updates. Am wondering if there's some conflict?
Have searched the Lenovo solution centre for up to date drivers for the dvd-RW but there aren't any. Don't really want to uninstall the DVD-ROM drive and attempt reinstall unless can definitely reinstall and can't find anything that reassures me I wil be able to do so.
Wondering if Is this similar to another issue on Toshiba pcs where it seems, according to various searches,  it was a corrupted registry entry due to conflicts with pre installed pc rescue type utilities?
I'm no IT expert and the idea of registry fiddling is not reassuring.

  • Mounting a Solaris x86 CD/DVD from a remote Windows CD/DVD-ROM drive

    Greetings, all.
Is it possible to mount a remote Windows CD/DVD-ROM drive? I have the Solaris 10x86 Companion Software DVD sitting in a CD/DVD-ROM drive that's installed on a Windows server on my network. It is shared-out (F:) and the two servers can ping each other. I've also confirmed the NFS services/daemons are running on the Solaris x86 machine. I've tried the following variations but, all have failed to produce successful results:
    # mount -F nfs x.x.x.x:/f /mnt

[FYI: S10_106_SOFTWARE is the DVD's label as reported by Windows Explorer.]

I've also tried mounting it at bootup by adding the appropriate entry in the /etc/vfstab file but, this does not work as well. I've tried Google'ing for an answer to my issue but, I haven't been able to find anything that applies directly to what I'm reporting. It's usually chatter about mounting from one UNIX server to another. Any advice from the community would be greatly appreciated.

After three weeks, you deserve a reply. Windoze does
not natively support NFS.Also deserves a decent answer...
There are two ways to do this:
Install Microsoft's free "Windows Services for UNIX," which includes a Windows NFS server; or
Install the 'sharity' package (google for it); it provides Solaris systems the ability to mount Windows shares

  • DVD-ROMs from Computer Music Magazine won't mount

I have an intel iMac model 10,1 running OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8. (I still like some old PPC games....)
Just recently I have been unable to load any of my (many) data DVD-ROMs from this magazine to instal music software etc. The disc loads, and gets spat out after a short time. Music and data CDs work. Normal movie DVDs load normally.
I did the Repair Permissions and zap the PRAM things. Still no luck... Any advice?

At this point because your Super Drive is still working, a lens cleaner might also help...?
    For example: > Amazon.com: Memorex CD/DVD-Player Laser-Lens Cleaner: Electronics
It also might help to clean and polish the CDs that are no longer reading in your Super Drive.
see > How to Clean a DVD or CD Disc ?
    and/or > Video: How to Clean CDs | eHow.com
Also if at some point your Super Drive fails, you might want to consider a more reliable Mac compatible tray loading external DVD drive instead of replacing the internal Super Drive.

Go to the page linked above and read carefully. There is an automatic fix and then instructions for editing the registry. This works to correct your problem maybe 60% of the time. It can also be a hardware problem but try this first. Post back if you need more help (lower case, please).

I have a Pavilion dv4t-1400 and recently upgraded it to Windows 7 home premium. I have a peculilar problem. My DVD Rom is not working. It shows up under "Computer", it has no yellow marks under "Device Manager"

  • Help finding dvd rom for powerbook G3 M3553

I have an apple laptop powerbook G3 M3553 with mac os 8 and am wondering if I can get an internal dvd rom??? Any help is much appreciated!!

    Jamie,
There are no "dummies", just users who are seeking answers.
I'm glad you explained why you wanted a DVD drive, and if I understand correctly, it is so your husband can watch DVD movies on the "Kanga" powerbook. Unfortunately, this is not going to work. A DVD drive can be connected either via the SCSI (square 30-pin port) on the back panel or possibly via a FireWire PC card inserted in the PCMCIA card slot on the left side of the powerbook. However, you would need third-party video player software like VideoLan's VLV Media Player, but there is no version for OS 9.x.
    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
In addition, even if there were DVD player software for 9.x, your playback would be very disappointing. Even using VLC on a Powerbook G3 Bronze Keyboard running OSX with a 400MHz CPU, playback is choppy. Your G3 Kanga only has a 250MHz CPU.
When DVDs first became popular, video CDs (VCD) were also released to meet the needs of those without DVD drives, and were widely available in the Far East. However, I have not checked on the availability of these versions locally and I would assume few stores carry a wide selection, if any. This would be the only practical way of playing movies on the Kanga.
    http://www.mireth.com/doc/macvcd_readme.html
My suggestion would be to buy a portable DVD player with prices anywhere from $125 and up.

  • Trouble playing DVD-ROM games...

Hello, I'm new to Macs and my 1.42 GHz iBook G4 is less than two months old. A few days ago I purchased the Myst 10th Anniversary DVD collection, and all three games have been running incredibly slow. The first two games run under Classic mode, and the last one runs native to OS X. When I try to play the games from the disc, my iBook's Superdrive makes a loud sweeping sound, like it's having trouble reading the DVD. When I try to play the games by copying all of the video and resource files to the hard drive I get very sluggish video playback and transitions. I know this isn't a problem of insufficient hardware because these games are five to ten years old and the highest system requirement is, I believe, a 400 MHz G3.
I have been able to read, rip, and write other CDs and DVDs so I'm not sure why my Superdrive would be acting up so much with these games. Should I contact Apple about this problem?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Must be a problem with the game itself, as I've gotten other DVD-ROMs to work.
