Help with saving edited picture

Question

Im using photoshop CS3 on Vista, now Im trying to remove the background from a picture using the filter, extract method, I did that correctly and can now move the picture around over the gray and white tranparency backdrop. My problem is trying to save the picture without a background. Every time i save it as a JPEG the white background returns,
Im trying to upload the picture to a webpage without a background, so it matches the webpage's background, and doesnt have the white background it originally had.
Can someone please assist me with this task.

An image has a distinct background, for instance
#1A2B3C hexadecimal. The image is compressed as
JPEG and then placed in a HTML table cell with
exactly the same background color #1A2B3C.
No - the colors don't match.
JPEG compression modifies all colors a little,
but the table cell background is accurate.
Therefore it's recommended to fill the HTML table
cell by a repeated JPEG image, for instance 16x16
pixels (not less), with exactly the original color
#1A2B3C and using exactly the same settings for
the compression.
That's the only method for creating matching back-
grounds, IMHO.
