Help with setting up Metro Ethernet

Can someone please help and give suggestions and possible configuration options for setting up metro ethernet in the following senario:
Will be setting up ME between headquarters and three remote branch offices. Each remote branch will be provisioned to 10MB, and the headquarters will have one link for the aggregate provisioned to 30MB.
My questions, we will have routers at the remotes, but how will this terminate at the headquarters? Do we connect the one ME aggregate connection to a router, or to a L3 switch? And how do you configure the headquarters devices to separate the traffic? Do you use sub interfaces like in frame relay? Please provide a sample config if possible.
Thanks

HI,
Assume you have 3560 SW at your HQ and where you can terminate the ME circuts.
Configuration in Switch as:
3560SW#sh run int Fa0/5
Building configuration...
Current configuration : 123 bytes
interface FastEthernet0/5
description ***************
switchport access vlan 40
switchport mode access
end
Create a SVI interface at the Router, the configuration is as:
7604-Backbone-RTR#sh run int Vl40
Building configuration...
Current configuration : 119 bytes
interface Vlan40
description *********
ip vrf forwarding 1234-NAME-MESH
ip address xx.xx.xx.xx 255.255.255.252
end
In the above configuration, VRF is applied on Interface to make the pefix unique across the Backbone.
is it here at the remotes where I will configure the "sub-interfaces"?
A. Yes, the case for remote is same as that of HQ.
Pls Rate if HELPS

Guru Prasad R.

you can't. the extreme is only a router. you need a separate modem (or disable the wireless part of your old router and use it as a modem - if that's possible).

ok i have a cisco 7204vxr that i am trying to use for metro ethernet that we had turned up today that is dmarc'd and ready.
    the isp gave us this:
    Customer router IP
Customer router default gateway "not sure how to set that up"
    and customer network IP range
i have the assigned FastEthernet 3/0 port in the front bay of the router the IP address and subnet that our ISP gave us for our router address.  this interface is connected to the d'marc.
i have also assigned GigabitEthernet 1/0 in the back of the router with the an ip and subnet from the ip range we were given for our use and saved the config.
if i take a laptop and plug in into the GigabitEthernet 1/0 on the back and assign it an ip and subnet from our new useable range and the ISP's dns i can't browse or ping anything past of the router.
i am able to ping the ISP's router from the mine.
i have not set up any routes because i am not sure what to do yet.
any help would be appreciated as our current ISP is turning our business' service off at midnight tonight.

    Hi,
As per the thread what i understand a router with two interface one facing towards the isp with point to point link and other end as lan interface,If yes then you need to configure a default route towards your isp for outgoing traffic and ask your isp to put a reverse route for your local lan subnet towards your routers want interface.
    Hope that Help !!

  • New computer ~ Help with setting up

    Hi everyone, Newbie here!
I am going to set my new computer up tomorrow. The computer I am using at present was installed and set up by someone else so this will be a great learning curve for me. Also I had Infinity installed by the engineer.
Is everything I need to install relating to my broadband available to download? What do I need altogether? I spoke to a BT chap on the phone and he said he would help by remote access. I am a bit nervous of this!
I need to ensure my computer is safe and secure and it all seems technically daunting. Norton security came with  my Microsoft Office package. Is this better than McAfee (Net Protect Plus), do I need both? What about a key code scrambler  (someone mentioned this to me). As you can see I need reassurance and help arghhhhhhh.
A step by step guide would be great!
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It is best not to install any of the BT software, just connect your computer to the BT Home hub using an Ethernet cable, or by using the wireless key, if its a wireless connected computers.
    See http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14964/~/getting-started-with-wireless
Using a direct cable connection is best, if you want to get maximum speed.
I would not allow anyone remote access, but if you have no choice, and cannot resolve the issue any other way, then make sure that it is as a direct result of you ringing BT, and not some random person ringing you at home, pretending to be from BT or even Microsoft.
Many people have been caught out by that type of call, and had their computer infected with spyware.
If you already have a trial version of Norton Security, then by all means use it until it expires, then uninstall it.
After that, you have the choice of using the free Microsoft Security Essentials, which is preferred by many forum members, or using BTs Netprotect which is free with some broadband packages. This has been known to make computers run more slowly though.
    That is all you need.
If you have any problems, then please return here.
If you have any problems with BT Infinity, then please visit the Infinity board on this forum.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

  • Need Help with setting up this Filter

    Hi,
I need help making a filter sound like the one used in this youtube song.
I tried setting it up but I've had no success; even though I know for a fact that this filter was made in Logic Pro 9 according to the maker of this song.
I think there might be a bit of 'Fuzz-Wah' in there too but I've never really used that effect so any tips on that would be great, too.
    Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tf017M8SZZE&feature=plcp
Any help with this would be widely appreciated.
    Thank you :-)

It sounds like a simple hi Q filter sweep to me but getting close to the original synth sound that it is being used on is the challenge. It might well be that it is the filter on the synth itself is what is being swept. Either way, turn up the filter resonance on a band pass filter and sweep it with the lfo or adsr to modulate the filter cutoff if its the synth filter, or automate the filter frequency  sweep if you use the channel filter.

  • Need help with Set-ADUser command

I need a little help with the following command. Im new to PS and I have found this command but it is only one user at a time. I need to be able to update ALL users in AD.
My goal is this. Someone before me set all Users Home numbers to 1234567899 and I need to remove that and leave it blank. The command below allows me to do that but only one user at a time by entering their SAMID.
Is there a way to do this for everyone in AD ?
    Set-AdUser –Identity SAMID –HomePhone $NULL

    Yeah sure -
    Get-Aduser -filter * -properties SamaccountName | Select SamAccountName | % {Set-Aduser -identity $_.SamaccountName -HomePhone $null}

LinkedList<Rectangle> rects = new LinkedList<Rectangle>();rects is an empty LinkedList at this point. It has no elements added to it.
rects.set(1,myrectangle);So you can't set the item at index 1 (the 2nd element in the list) because it doesn't even exist. You need to add items to it.

  • Help with WRT54GS on FiOS (ethernet, not coax)

Hey guys, I'm new here and just trying to get some help with this unsolvable problem that I just started having with my Linksys WRT54GS and Verizon FiOS last week.
To simplify my full story and actual issue here, I put it all into points to try and make it simpler to understand:
-In Fall of 2007, I switch from Comcast to Verizon FiOS after getting screwed over waiting for two weeks and never getting a new router, as the first one was fried in a thunderstorm
-Little brother knocks over the first Actiontec router and it breaks
-Actiontec replacement router's wireless is nonexistant (MI42WR)
-After trying out bridging the Linksys to the Actiontec, it proves to be much more of a pain than actual solution to lack of wireless
-Switched from coax to full cat5 ethernet last year to use Linksys WRT54GS
-Been happily directly connected from ONT to Linksys WRT54GS via cat5 ethernet for the past year while the wireless is perfect for the other computers
    (last week)
-Turned off Linksys router for one night last week to give it an over night rest
-Has not been able to connect to Verizon with old WRT54GS or brand new WRT54GL router (That I'm now returning)
-ONT ethernet light outside still has a green light indicating it's working
-I do not want to bridge the Actiontec and Linksys again
-I do not want to go back to using the Actiontec for anything, but stuck with it for now
-Has reset the connections of the router, computer and released the DHCP plenty of times, but to no avail
-Has upgraded the firmware of my WRT54GS before typing this and still nothing
-No connection for any Linksys router, but the Actiontec works
I can't think of a solution except perhaps trying one from another company, like D-Link.. (sad face) I'm already returning the new router on monday, since I don't believe that my WRT54GS is even broken if the new one isn't connecting either. So I'm just thinking that perhaps Verizon has done something that isn't allowing any of my Linksys routers to connect, since they happily started charging me an extra $10-12 on the FiOS bill without notice. Though at this point, I have a hard time believing that even switching to another router company and using their products will do anything for me..
At this very moment, I'm suffering with this awful stock Verizon router and my parents and aunt have been complaining for the past two weeks. Hopefully someone here knows what the real problem may be that can chime in with some help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yep, I sure have done exactly what you said to do. I wasn't able to edit my post, but that's exactly what I had to do when I was doing tests with the Verizon technician over the phone. I also reset all of the settings within my computer and browsers.. Still, the only router that works is the Actiontec router that I have been trying to avoid. The other Verizon techs during the day don't help at all, but the one time I called at like 2am at least TRIED to help me out with my Linksys router..
I've even gone as far as switching the ethernet cable from the ONT that goes to the WAN port of the Linksys to go to the computer's ethernet port and moving the other end to the Lan 1-4 jacks, while using a whole new cable for the ONT --> Linksys WAN.
I still got the green light from the ONT and I still got no connection from Verizon.. There's no way I'm switching out from Verizon FiOS, but this is really giving me a headache trying to solve this issue.

  • Help with setting a MDX goal expression in SSAS

Our data is updated monthly and the last date of available data can be anywhere from 45-75 days behind.  For example, data is current through 6/30/2014
    as of 8/25/2014.
I have a Time dimension hierarchy named [Calendar] with [Year]>[Half Year]>[Quarter]>[Month]>[Date]
I have a measure, [Measures].[Fatalities] set as a calculated member.
I have a KPI with [Measures].[Fatalities] set as the Value Expression. My issue is with setting up the goal expression.
I am trying to set a goal expression that is a percent reduction for a 5-year baseline average (Year-7:Year-3). So for the current year (2014, with data through
    June 2014), the goal would be a 20% reduction of the average of the Jan-Jun 2007, Jan-Jun 2008,Jan-Jun 2009,Jan-Jun 2010,Jan-Jun 2011.
I have set up the following MDX as the goal expression:
    .8*((
    ([Measures].[Fatalities],
    PARALLELPERIOD([Time].[Calendar].[Year],7,[Time].[Calendar].CurrentMember))
    +
    ([Measures].[Fatalities],
    PARALLELPERIOD([Time].[Calendar].[Year],6,[Time].[Calendar].CurrentMember))
    +
    ([Measures].[Fatalities],
    PARALLELPERIOD([Time].[Calendar].[Year],5,[Time].[Calendar].CurrentMember))
    +
    ([Measures].[Fatalities],
    PARALLELPERIOD([Time].[Calendar].[Year],4,[Time].[Calendar].CurrentMember))
    +
    ([Measures].[Fatalities],
    PARALLELPERIOD([Time].[Calendar].[Year],3,[Time].[Calendar].CurrentMember))
    )/5
The problem is that the goal is taking the entire year average at the year level of the Calendar hierarchy.  For example, in the attached screenshot, the
Fatalities Goal would be empty when the fatalities is empty, and more importantly, the goal at the Year level of the Calendar hierarchy would only be the sum of Jan-Jun goal.  The Fatalities Goal in this example should read 549.28 at the Calendar 2014
Year level and the status would still be green.

  • [SOLVED] Need help with setting up X

Hello guys am new to the forum and this is my first post here. I am in need of a little help.
Need help with X configuration. It starts like this, I installed xorg-server , xorg-utils, xorg-server-utils. When I tried installed xorg-init it says no package, anyway I ignored and moved on.
Now I installed regular mesa stuff and installed xf86-video-ati driver for my HD4250 graphics adapter. with libgl and ati-dri (I have old arch wiki print so it mentioned to install those while newer doesn't list some stuff)
Now the problem is that Xorg -configure doesn't work with newer X and nor the packages has generated /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.
Anyway I created the file manually and added each and every section as mentioned in the "old" guide that I have.
I even added a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-radeon.conf file for my graphics card with the content as
    Section "Device"
    Identifire "r"
    Driver "radeon"
    EndSection
After manually creating all such files I installed x-term, xclock and twm. But when I tried to start X by startx or Xinit it says command not found. Add to that a simple X shows couple of errors.
Please see the errors here Paste #399362 | LodgeIt!
Some more questions : My old guide mentioned to install HAL while newer guide on the net mention DBUS. Though I have added DBUS to be on the safe side but why not HAL ? Is it because of Udev ?
So please help me getting X up and running.
    Regards
Last edited by Shashwat (2011-06-04 09:47:47)

Ok  I sorted out the misprints in the file and installed xinit but still can't get it to work.
    1. There are few errors in xorg.conf that I cannot make it out.
    2. The X output says no screen found. ?
    http://paste.pocoo.org/show/399383/
Now when I add EndSection at the last its says invalid parameter and when I remove it, I get an error "No EndSection, EOF missing"
    Kind of bugging
    Please do help.

  • Need help with setting up a PPTP connection

    Hello all,
I am having trouble setting up a PPTP connection in Mac OS X "Snow Leopard". The ISP has provided the following info:
    — Protocol: PPTP
    — Login
    — Password
    — IP Address
    — Subnet mask
    — Default Gateway
    — IP Address of the VPN Server
I am using the Airport Express as rounter, so here's what I entered in the Airport Utility on the Internet tab:
    Connection: Ethernet
    IP Address (as provided)
    Subnet mask (as provided)
    Router address (from Default Gateway)
Then I went to Connections, and created a new PPTP connection, setting the properties of the latter as follows:
    VPN Server (as provided)
    Account name (from Login)
    Authenrification->Password (from Password)
and chose "Send all traffic over VPN connection".
The Airport is reported to have connected successfully, but the specified VPN Serverd does not ping, and when I try to connect via PPTP, an error is displayed saying that the PPTP-VPN server did not respond. Playing with different Encryption types did not help.
This same connection, when set up on a Windows machine, works well so I think I must have goofed with the Mac OS X settings. Could you help me find out what I could have done wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    Anton

    Pete Corelio:
    {quote}You do have more network devices, at least a dsl or cable modem and maybe a switch connected to it. Are your PC and the AX connected to the same modem/switch?{quote}
No. There's only the Ethernet cable leading to some central (building-wide, or even wider) device. It was routed to my friend's apartment by the ISP people.
    {quote}It's a bit uncommon to manually set the IP address within the TCP/IP section of the VPN network settings like you did. That's usually set to automatically get an IP via PPP... Please try a quick test using PPP instead.{quote}
Having the AX using DHCP and VPN using PPP makes part of the ISP settings unnecessary... Hmmm. Anyway, I did try PPP in VPN connection settings, to no avail. Alas.
    {quote}It's also suspicious that you cannot open a connection to port 1723 with the telnet command. Are you sure the VPN type is PPTP and not LT2P over ipsec?{quote}
Yes, I am sure. The ISP's support confirmed it over the phone. Also they said they hadn't been able to set up any Mac with their network, but I am loth to believe the latter statement. And I clearly remember it was PPTP (not LT2P) in the Windows settings.
    {quote}lease verify the IP settings on your PC...{quote}
OK, will do this Wednesday. Also I'll take a closer look at the VPN settings.
    {quote}So your PC is on the same network and the VPN works from there? Is the PC using 3rd party VPN software or the built-in software?{quote}
No other clients, just a VPN connection configured using Windows built-in tools.
    Anton
    EDIT:
    {quote}'m assuming the Mac gets an IP in the 10.x range and gets online OK right? {quote}
The AX is saying it's connected but there's no internet. This ISP is providing access to the internet through that VPN. The same AX works well with my MacBook at home, although I am using PPPoE.

  • Help with set up please

I have just bought a second airport xtreme card for my G5 powermac and now have this and the G5 imac wirelessly connected via a belkin F5D7630 router. Strangley I have noticed that the signal strength is weaker on my powermac compared with the Imac. I have checked the installation of the card and ensured that I have the external arial connected to the back on the computer. As I am typing this I have noticed that I have 2 bars showing on the menubar and the imac has 5 bars. These machines are in different rooms on the same floor and the router is in another room on the same floor.
I called Belkin and they said that I should change my settings to 10 half duplex. Apparently the airpport cards are set for 10 full duplex. Well, i don't know where I would make this change and whether the change is actually needed.
Does the signal level impact on the connection speed?
WHat does 'interface robustness' mean and should I have it ticked in the menu?
What is this 10 half duplex stuff about and how do I change it?
Please can someone help me on this one - It is most frustrating

"10 half duplex" applies to cabled ethernet network connections - not wireless network connections. This suggestion isn't of any relevance to your problem.
"Interference robustness" helps alleviate the effects of some types of radiofrequency interference. Don't enable this feature unless interference is known to be an issue. Are the any other wireless networks in range of yours (listed in the Mac's Airport menu)?
Double check the connection of the internal Airport antenna cable to the Airport Extreme card on the G5. Make sure the connector is FULLY seated, which can take some force to do properly.
