Help within applications: "no internet connection" ?

Just installed CS6 Design Standard. No problems there...
Since I can't seem to find any PDF manuals or somesuch (a shame, really; just a rather empty box with one install DVD, and not even the slightest hint of a manual), I decided to consult the inline Help of each application. That's what the "Help" menu is for, or so I thought.
But apparently, all of the Adobe applications think I'm offline.
No "Online Help...", nor "Support Center..."
And not much else to find on Adobe's site either.
The Adobe Help application isn't ehm, helpful either. No sight of any CS6 stuff there.
So, how can I make Photoshop et all make believe I really am online ?
cheers,
_g

Hi Preran,
Thanks for your swift reply !
Yes, I can acces that URL.
Oddly enough, the inline Help system just started to work, a few minutes ago, after posting here...
I'm not sure why (my internet connection is perfectly fine; as always), but it struck me that it started to work after I loaded an image (in PS)... Before, when trying to access the help files, I had no image loaded. Though I doubt this would be the cause, since the Help system now still works without having an image loaded. Quite peculiar, this.
Anyway, the online help is err, helpful.
Any chance of this becoming available off-line, or in some form of printed matter ? I'd like my design team to have some reference books around...
cheers,
_Guy

  • Apple Help engine erroneously reports internet connection missing

I was using the help for TextWrangler, which is implemented in the Apple Help system. Sometimes, inconsistently, it fails to bring up a help page, and reports
    Internet connection required
The help topic you’re opening requires an Internet connection. Choose Apple > System Preferences, and then click Network to check your network settings and, if necessary, connect to the Internet.
Of course my internet connection is just fine. I did a google search on that error message and found a suggestion that other people are experiencing this same error in Help in other applications and that Apple has been notified of the problem, so I thought I'd check here if anyone knows anything about this.
    Thanks!

Turn on 64-BIT WEP encryption on your router. Pick a 10 digit password for key 1. Turn on Wireless with SSID broadcast on. Pick a name for your network other than "LINKSYS"
On the Mac turn on wireless (icon next to the speaker, upper right)
Select the network you just made. Type in the key.
    and you're on

  • Sudden quitting of application like internet connection and Solver

there are a couple of issues with my Mac Book Pro-early 2011
    1. The modem based internet connection takes almost few minutes to get connected and to open the home page.
    2. some applications like Solver and even the internet connection suddenly get disconnected with a message "the app quit unexpectadly"
    3. Sometimes the applections won't quit for a while, needs to be forcefully quit.
    My Mac software is:
    Mac OS X-Lion- 10.7.3
    Kindly provide the needed help
    Regards
    Jagannath

When you're waiting for something to quit, open up activity monitor (Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.app), click the 'CPU' column (click it twice if necessary, you want the arrow/triangle pointing downwards) and find the name of the process that's eating up all the CPU.
Post its name here and we'll tell you what to do next.

and read some of what to do
the instructions dotn even corresponbd to the version im using.
(i loge into the java enviroment)
anyways suns site tell me to do this
    1. Click the [Launch] button and select "Preferences - System".
    2. In the following window, double click the "Hardware" icon.
    3. In the "Hardware" window, double click the "Network Card" icon.
(((I dont even see a hardwarwe icon there)))
all i se there is network settings configuration agent
nothing i do seems to work.can someone please help me
i ben told solkaris is the best thign out there
and i really wanna see why
    thank you so much

Once the steps below have completed successfully, as they
apparently have, then you have created the correct instructions
for compiling the drivers for your card.
    # cd /.../vfe-x.x.x
    # rm obj Makefile
    # ln -s Makefile.i386_gcc Makefile
    # ln -s i386 obj
Then you need to actually do the compilation.
Check to see if the 'make' command is in your PATH by
    running the following command
    # which make
If you get back an error message, it's not in your PATH.
If you get back a directory name, it is.
If it's not in your PATH,
    # grep -w make /var/sadm/install/contents
(The word 'none' in that file does not mean a missing
    file, BTW.
    # man pkgmap
will tell you what the none means -- I've forgotten.
The first field of each row of results is the path to the installed
    file. )
On my system, make is installed in /usr/ccs/bin, so I having cd'ed
into the directory of the Makefile (where you were ln -s'ing), I could
    either run
    # /usr/ccs/bin/make
or I could temporarily add the directory to my PATH, then run 'make'.
    # PATH = /usr/ccs/bin ; export PATH
    # make
Your make may be installed someplace else, so you'll have to adjust
    these examples to suit.
If make completes happily, then your system will have the drivers
    for your card installed.
To get the system to actually try to use the drivers needs one last
    step:
    # ifconfig -a
should only give you lo0, the 127.0.0.1 loopbak address
    # ifconfig -a plumb
tries to find all the network cards it can
    # ifconfig -a
should give you lo0 and another one (sorry, I don't know what your
    card shows up as).
If any of the steps above fail, please provide the commands you ran
and the exact errors messages (good thing you found the floppy! :-> ).
Once you can see two results from ifconfig -a, run the following command
    # sys-unconfig
This is the easy way to set up hostname, IP (DHCP), netmask & stuff
without hand-editing files -- it just runs the section of the installer
that would have run, had your card been detected in the first place.

  • Help!  "Alert: No Internet Connection found" after most recent auto update!

I am on a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.6.8.  I connect over a wireless router and cable modem usually and do the same with a few other devices in the household.  After the most recent update I was met with an airport alert: No Internet Connection on my laptop. I turned airport on and off, power cycled router and modem to no avail. I called my ISP to renew the ip or whatever it is they do and that also did nothing. While troubleshooting with the operator she told me that based on the ip starting with 169. , that signified that the laptop was not getting a signal from the router, or vice versa. I confirmed this by using airport diagnostic and noticing that it did not pick up when I power cycled my modem or router after being prompted to do so.  I apologize for the wall of text formatting but I am forced to post this on my phone now. Any help would be appreciated!

Any direction on how to reset the update or anything like that would be great, thanks!

can any1 help me with the internet on my iphone 3gs it says no connection on the facebook news feed but all the other internet stuff works

Contact the develpers of that app, which is not an Apple product for support.  You can find the developer contact info in the description of that app in the App Store or Google it.

  • HELP!!! Internet connection is driving me mad........

Just bought my macbook pro 17 and everything is stable except the internet connection. I use a BT wireless connection and bought a Belkin N1 wireless router which is Mac compatible. Everytime the airport says I have an internet connection but with Firefox or Safari or the mail-program it seems only to work when i turn the router on and off and it works for a couple of minutes although airport says the connection is. I have tried the PRAM reset, changing settings etc. But nothing seems to work. Has anyone had the same issues and maybe some advice. I think for such a fab laptop it should do basic stuff like internet connection. My wireless router is also new and software has been updated. HELP, it is driving me nuts!

please its for a very small bit of my dissertation.
I would read it, but im in hell trying to write the
technical report that has to go with my system.I thought your dissertation was a defense of knowledge you claim to gain during an investigation. And you need this information for that defense. If it is just given to you, how can you claim to have learned it?

  • Help menu telling me "Internet connection required"

i'm experiencing a weird and frustrating thing: when i try to consult the Help menu for a topic whose answer is online, the answer i'm looking for appears for about 1/4 of a second before it disappears and is replaced with the following text:
    Internet connection required
The help topic you’re opening requires an Internet connection. Choose Apple > System Preferences, and then click Network to check your network settings and, if necessary, connect to the Internet.
thing is, my 'net connection's just fine. it's strong and fast and works for absolutely everything else.
any idea what's going on here? thanks...

ep, make sure you're looking in the right Library folder. forgive me if you already know this, but there are several Library folders on a normal OS X installation: there's one on the top level of the hard drive, one in the System folder, and one in each user's home folder. birman was talking about the one in your home folder.
just looking over my old threads and saw this one; i don't recall doing anything that successfully fixed the problem, as such, but it seems - knock wood - to have gone away. maybe buying this new Mac Pro was the solution. :P

  • Lynksys E900 Wireless-N300 Router - Help needed to share internet connection from PC to home network

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me out with a problem I have:
I am currently connecting my PC to a mobile phone as a Wireless Access Point to give that PC access the internet. I also have a small home network, with one other PC and a Game Console. I own a Linksys E900 Wireless-N300 Router. My problem is this. How do I share that internet connection with the rest of the home network?
To the best of my knowledge its not possible to connect my mobile phone directly to my Linksys E900 Wireless-N300 Router, although if anyone has any ideas how to do this I'd love to hear!
So my alternative idea is to connect to the internet via one PC, set up that internet connection as "Shared." and then allow the other devices on the home network to connect thru this. My question is how do I set up my  Linksys E900 Wireless-N300 Router to allow my other PC and game console connect to the internet? Bridge Mode? PPPoE? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! PS: both PC's are running on Windows 8

I have Cisco Linksys E900 router. I want to make my home Wi-Fi zone. But I don’t have Static IP. One more thing is that Service provider have web page Authentication. I have username and pass.
I am able to make SSID and security for my WI-FI LAN. I can use internet on one device. If I tried from second device again it’s asking me for username and password. While login it’s showing your first session in not logout. (Means I have to logout from 1st device and have to login on 2nd device.)
Is there any option that I can Use my all devices at same time?

  • Urgent : Help, window and mac internet connection...

I'm using a iBook G4 to connect to internet using wi-fi.
Then i connect it to my Mac Pro using just a LAN cable to share internet connection.
Now the problem is, when i re-boot to window, how do i get my internet connection from my iBook?

The connection settings should be exactly the same as under Mac OS X.

  • Help in setting up internet connection with AOL

I just purchased a MacBook this week (already have an iMac). I have phone line internet service with AOL as my provider. I purchased the modem from Apple to connect to my phone line. I have tried to use the SetUp Asst. to connect but I am not very computer literate and can't seem to get set up. I need very basic directions. Also, how do I use wifi with the MacBook? I have never used it before - I don't know how to configure it or get it started either. Any help would be tremendously appreciated. Sorry to be so illiterate!
    Sunny

    Welcome To Discussions Sunny!
At what point in the setup are you?
Do you have the AOL application installed on the MacBook?
Do you have an existing AOL account?
Do you have the External Modem connected to the MacBook, and also to the phone jack in the wall?

  • HELP!!  iMac internet connectivity... feeling REALLY dumb here!!

Okay, here's the scoop... we recently bought our young daughter a refurbished iMac (Apple iMac 333MHz G3 32MB w/OS 9.1) as a "starter" computer of sorts. I discovered fairly quickly that it didn't even have an internet browser on it, so I downloaded an older (OS 9 compatible) version of IE through my PC to a flash drive and was able to load/install it on the iMac. The browser itself is working perfectly fine, but I can't get it connected to the internet to save my life!! We're running the connection through a router connected to our gateway (the same way my computer is set up, and it's working fine - even swapped the lines just to make sure it wasn't a line problem). I've gone in and set up our IP address, server address, default browser, etc., but NOTHING seems to be working! Does anyone have any insight they can provide on this? My daughter, and my sanity, would both greatly appreciate some help!! Thanks in advance for your time!
    iMac   Mac OS 9.0.x

Welcome to Apple Discussions. In fact, welcome to the Discussions for the new iMac Intel Core Duo! Many folks here have never even seen OS 9. I personally haven't used it since like MAY 2001.
You may get a better/quicker response from folks with a Mac like yours, using OS 9.
    Here is a link to the correct forums for your post;
