It is 99% hacked/jailbroken iPhone to use a different carrier than intended. You have to put the sim from the original carrier or ask them to unlock the iPhone. We as well as Apple cannot help you with this.

You'd only get that message if iOS 7.0 Beta was installed on this phone. There is no fix. Either return the phone for a refund, or give it back to your boyfriend & have him get it fixed.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Sometimes the activation server is just not available for a short time. Trying again usually corrects this problem. But as Peter Gillespie suggests, if the iPhone you are trying to activate has ever been jailbroken, or the computer you are using to activate the phone has been used to jailbreak an iOS device then you will get the Activation Server not Available message.

Thank you for the note - I have seen similar replies on other posting errors and I see how that could make sense. The thing is, my iPhone is not jailbroken - it is from an authorized distributor. However, when I told them about the "no service" problem on the sim, they were unable to assist. Then my phone messaged that an itunes restore was required - so I did that, several times, to the error message now noted on my post. I wonder if there is some other way to over-write this message? Thanks very much.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.

I would try poping the sim card out and then putting it back in. Therer is a small hole in the side just stick a pin in it and pop the try out and slide it back in. If that doesnt work back your device up and then restore it. If that still doesnt work go to your phone comany.

I have a Iphone4 and Verizon as my carrier. How do I change my sims? Or can I change my sims card? Please help me I would greatly apperciate it.

The Verizon iPhone 4 is a CDMA phone and as such has no SIM. Ergo there's no way to change a SIM and no way to use the phone with another carrier, if that's what you wanted to do.

If the phone was hacked, you can't get help here. It would not necessarily have to have been hacked. Legitimately unlocked iPhones are available from Apple in the U.S. and AT&T (the only US GSM carrier who ever carried the 3GS) offers unlocking.
Try a replacement SIM from your carrier.

Use the end of a straightened paper clip. Insert into the SIM Tray hole and push very firmly and the SIM Tray will begin to come out. Once started just remove completely with your fingers.
If still problem, you can easily pull the SIM Tray out with pin tip bent into a small hook or letter L shape, carefully use tweezers or other device to bend the pin tip. Put this into the SIM Tray hole only a mm (millimeter) deep. Get the bent tip to catch and just begin to pull the SIM Tray out. Then use your fingers and pull the tray out completely.

So I tried to upgrade my iPhone 3GS today to iOS 5 and although I thought it had worked, it ended up disabling my sim card..well frying it actually. I have restored and booted the phone more times that I care to remember today and every time it doesn't work. Is this happening to anyone else? PLEASE HELP!

Yes, There is another topic on this. I took the sim card out and it worked on my phone and another phone. Something with the update bricked the phone.

My Husband and I signed up for the Epic 4G phones with the Lady Gaga promotion with Sprint. I called to activate our phones and mine works fine. My husband's phone not only isn't activating, but when he attempted to contact customer service to find out why his phone was having issues, the link from his phone took him to verizon customer service, not Sprint!!
Is it possible the wrong company's sim card could have been put in his phone by mistake??

The Samsung Epic 4G does not take a SIM card, or have any way of being associated with Verizon Wireless. What link did you follow? Samsung manufacturers phones for all carriers, so you could have been misdirected. Did you purchase your phones online?
