  • Can't sync my Ipod nano-2nd generation

I have a 2nd generation Ipod Nano.  My original cable that I received with my Nano stopped working.  So I recently purchased another cable from Quill, an office supply company that sells Apple products.  Now I can charge my Nano, but cannot sync my Ipod to Itunes.  I usually sync to my Windows 7 pc at work, and charge my Ipod on my home pc running under Windows XP (still).
Should I go and purchase another cable from the Apple Store directly?  Or can someone tell me a tip on using the current, recently purchased cable?

    Hi, Zane,
I did get my Ipod nano to sync to my Itunes, but using my new Apple cable from the office supply store.  Here's how:  first, I uninstall and reinstall my Itunes software with Ipod still plugged in thru the new cable to the pc (I was on my Win 7 one), and second, pressed the menu and center button together to reset my Ipod.  That's all it took to get Itunes to start syncing with my Ipod nano.
Thought I'd mention it here so others can see how I got it to work.

  • I have the very first iPod Nano, and it doesn't work anymore. Can I recycle it or trade it for a newer one?

I got this iPod a really long time ago. And when I pluged it into my computer it doesn't unlock and it doesn't let me turn it off or anything.
I've tried to do the iPod replacement but it says that my iPod isn't a part of it. But my friend has the same kind of iPod as mine and it went through.
Can I trade it in or recycle it for a newer one?

The Problem With Your Ipod Is That It Is Not Unlocked , To Unlock It You Have To Install Itunes And Plug It Into Your Computer , Then It Will Be Automatically unlocked .
No, You Cannot Recycle Your Ipod Because Ipod Nano 1G does Not Include in the recycling Program

Where can i see it in itunes?

You must be using iTunes 10.7 or later for it to register that your iPod nano is plugged in.

  • IPod Nano 2nd generation software version

    Hi
I need to grab a used iPod Nano 2nd Generation to replace the one I left on the plane   : (
It's quite amazing how much value these units hold on eBay. My question is, what is the latest (or possibly the last) software version that Apple has released for this unit? I want to make sure that I ask the eBay seller what version of the software is installed on the one I'm looking at, as I feel that a currently updated unit will have the best chance of functioning properly. I am running Windows 7 on my home computer.
One of the ones I'm looking at has a picture of the information screen on the unit and it says it has software version 1.1.3. That can't be anywhere close to the last/best one, can it?
I assume that 2GB, 4GB and 8GB are the same in terms of software. I am looking for a 4GB version, or possibly an 8GB.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Nick

That is correct.  Version 1.1.3 was the last firmware update released for the 2G Nano.

  • How can I prevent my iPod nano from turning on by itself and running down the battery?

I will arrive at my desk in the morning, stop the podcast I'm listening to, notice by the "play" button appearing on the screen and that absence of audio in my ears that the podcast has actually stopped, hold the big oval button down until the screen goes dark, and set my iPod down on the desk. Every now and again (maybe twice a week) I'll catch the iPod playing. It's usually off playing music (i.e. it's somehow navigated away from the podcast I've been listenting to and ended up in a music shuffle somewhere), and it will continue playing until the battery runs down or until I happen to notice it and turn it off. Doesn't only happen at work, happens anywhere...home, car. Result is that once or twice a week I go to use the iPod and the battery has completely run down.

    Unplug the headphones.

  • My iPod nano 2nd edition has died on me. I can press on menu and centre of the wheel and the apple logo comes on for seconds, then I get a glimpse of the menu list then the screen goes dead. What can I do? Can anyone help please?

MY iPod Nano 2nd generation iPod has died on me. I've charged it both by connecting to my laptop and also separately. I press the centre wheel and menu and the apple logo appears for a few seconds, then I get a glimpse of the menu then it disappears again. I have tried everything even leaving it plugged into the power for about four hours but it made no difference. What can I do?

Probably not a good sign especially given the age of the device.  Are you able to get it into Disk Mode long enough so that you can restore it in iTunes?
    Putting iPod into Disk Mode
Otherwise, it might be time to have the iPod serviced or replaced.

  • When i connect my ipod nano 2nd gen, it charges but does not appear in windows or itunes.  I tried the reset but it didn't work.  how can i fix this?

I bough a 4g Ipod nano 2nd gen for my cousins birthday.  When i plug it into my computer it charges but does not show up in windows or itunes.  I tried reseting it, reinstalling itunes, everything the site said but it didn't help. I am trying to sync songs to it for my cousin, but it won't work with it not connecting.  Could the wire have something to do with it or is there a bigger problem here?

  • Can you get games on the iPod Nano 2nd generation?

This is probably a simple question, but can you get games on an iPod Nano 2nd Generation?

No, unless you previously bought iPod click wheel games and still have copies of them. Apple no longer sells those.

  • Battery dead on ipod nano (2nd generation) What do I do?

Dead battert on my ipod nano (2nd generation) What do I do? Should I get it replaced or just buy a new one?

You have 1 of three routes if you want to get it replaced. Whether or not it is worth it is entirely up to you.
    1) Have Apple replace the battery in it for a flat fee.  See this page for pricinghttp://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/ and this page for setting up the service request. http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipod
    2) Locate and utiltize a third party service (there may even be some shops/service centers in your area).  I have no suggestions as to which one is better than another, so for now you'll have to Google for "iPod battery replacement" and you should get a number of results. This is slightly cheaper than the Apple route although a bit riskier in terms of having the job done right.
    3) If you consider yourself handy with small electronics you can purchase a new battery from an online retailer and use one of the numerous guides online to swap it out yourself.  I usually stick with http://www.ifixit.com for parts and step-by-step guides. Of course this route is the cheapest, but is the most difficult.

  • The screen on my ipod nano 2nd generation turns black. It still plays music. I've tried resetting the ipod to clear the black screen and the screen goes back to it's normal state but after a few minutes the screen goes black again.

The screen on my ipod nano, 2nd generation, turns black. It stills plays music. I've tried resetting the ipod to clear the black and the screen goes back to it's original state. But after a few minutes the screen turns black again, while the music is still playing. What can I do about this?

That's just the iPod's backlight timer going off, signaling the iPod's backlight to turn off to conserve battery power.

  • My iPod Nano 2nd gen. has a black caterpillar-like shape on the screen when turned off. I recharged and reset. What else should I do?

My iPod Nano 2nd gen. has a black caterpillar-like shape on the screen when turned off.
It disappears when turned on. It must mean something. I recharged and reset. What else, if anything, should I do?

You can work through the remaining five 5 R's of troubleshooting.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
It might also be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity.  A third party service will actually replace the damage part for a little less.  Google "iPod screen repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

  • I need to get the music off my Ipod Nano 2nd GEN onto either ITunes or in a music foldes on my new computer. Not all the music was purchased from Apple Itunes HOW DO I DO THIS WITHOUT LOOSING ALL MY MUSIC??

I have not had a computer for several years and I just got a new one. My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. Thank goodness I had it all on my Ipod Nano 2nd GEN. Now my problem is that I don't know how to get the music off my Ipod Nano onto my new computer!!! I was able to get the songs that I purchased thru ITunes by just authorizing my new computer. But I have alot more music that is on my Ipod nano that I can't put into my ITunes library. In fact, I can't even get my music into a file folder on my computer!! I really need help. I don't have any copies of the music anywhere else and some of it is hard to get. How do I get my music either into ITunes or into a file folder on my new computer or even if I could get my computer to recognize my Ipod and sync all the music into windows media or something like that. Every time I connect my IPod all that happens is that it tells me if I sync the IPod that it will replace all the music from my ITunes library on to my IPod. And I am guessing that means all my music on the IPod will be erased. PLEASE HELP ME!!!! Thanks from the bottom of my songsters heart

From the OP: "My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. "
They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.
