High CPU usage after export from iMovie

Makes you go hmmmmm...... Mavericks 10.9.4, 2.3 GHz i7 16 GB 1 TB. 33% full. A 32 minute camcorder movie. No editing just export. Latest iMovie and everything else no added plugins or 3rd party anything. While exporting the movie 1280X720 it uses about 200% CPU (2 virtual cores)? After the export is done it starts using about 350% CPU and will do so forever. I thought maybe it was straigtening up afterwards but it went on for about a half hour. This causes me no problems but like I said it made me go hmmmmmmm..... In case you couldn't tell I'm a newbie. I had XP for about 800 years and this is my Christmas present. It's wonderful.

Yes they are in the same folder. After I added my Exchange account under Configuration | Mail, Contacts & Calendar, mail started to eat CPU time. If I look a the activity window of mail I see a message "downloading incoming messages" in chunks of 50-100 messages every few minutes. Maybe this is the downloading of bodies (and attachements) of my large 50K messages archive map.
I just disabled the mail part of the Exchange account under Configuration | Mail, Contac ts & Calendar and the CPU eating seems to stop. I'll just see the coming hours.
I currently do not use any mail plugins.

  • High cpu usage after a while

Sometimes, after a while, firefox (36.0.4) uses up 1 core of my CPU (is a quad core due to hypertreading). The way it happens is really strange. Many tabs without a problem until suddenly ff decides to floor it. This is alway in the run, not on startup or close. All add-ons need to ask my permissions to be activated, this includes flash.
On close, I ordered ff to clear all history and cookies.
Notes that could be important (The behavior encountered while using it. This varies from time to time):
opening new tabs (a lot or a few) => "heavy" load during site loading, then idling
    ==> The above makes sense
    - same as above but load continues to be heavy. => could be some badly written javascript on the site, however, sometimes this occurs with sites I know have no stressful javascript
    ==> The above seems odd
    - Browser is idle in the background (not actively using it). Then all of the sudden "lets floor it until closed".
==> The above seems pretty odd
    - When confronted with high CPU usage, closing ff doesn't close it (the ff process remains active. Not a ff process, THE ff process). => High CPU usage remains
==> The above looks like that there is definitely something wrong here
This last one has some other things to keep in mind
    - When it happens and I close ff, upon restarting it it will ALWAYS ask to close ff. After confirming to close it, it will start and behave normally.
    - When killing ff via the task-manager, or other means like powershell commands, restarting it will result in an idle ff even after every tab is loaded again.
I hope this isn't a heisenbug and there is a solution to this, a reboot ff button would be a nice workaround though. I personally think that it must be some routine in the code that decides to go nuts for no reason.
If you need further details, feel free to ask.
    Thanks in advance

Tried those before and tried them again. Unfortunately, the problem keeps repeating itself at random times. As said, sometimes it doesn't occur and sometimes suddenly it does. Keep the following things in mind about this, what seems like a heisenbug, behavior.
    - opening new tabs (a lot or a few) => "heavy" load during site loading, then idling
    ==> The above makes sense
    - same as above but load continues to be heavy. => could be some badly written javascript on the site, however, sometimes this occurs with sites I know have no stressful javascript
    ==> The above seems odd
    - Browser is idle in the background (not actively using it). Then all of the sudden "lets floor it until closed".

    - When confronted with high CPU usage, closing ff doesn't close it (the ff process remains active. Not a ff process, THE ff process). => High CPU usage remains
==> The above looks like that there is definitely something wrong here
As stated, a reboot ff button would be a nice workaround. I personally think that something like a tread must get stuck in some sort of infinite loop. Browsing in ff works just fine though. I just don't like the fact that I turns into a "gasoline guzzler".
    Again, thanks in advance

  • High CPU usage when downloading from ITunes Match

When attempting to download matched songs from ITunes Match, ITunes utilization spikes to over 70% and makes it almost impossible to do any other function on the computer.  Eventually ITunes fails to respond.  I have tried several remedies including reseting winsock.  Is there any other options I should try?

    Hiya,
could it have something to do with the write speed/ cache/ram? On a "slow" disk, or one that is nearly full or one that is partitioned, it will take a great deal more ram and cache to "digest" the faster download and write it onto disk. I tend to do downloads to a separate drive. Have you got one? and can you repeat the high CPU usage when downloading / saving to the external drive? I note your drive might have 5,400 rpm, with "just" 8mB cache and 320 GB (quite a few SATA's have 7,200 rpm and 32 mB cache).
NB: If anything, I found SL more efficient, especially on my 4 year old Macbook, which is running much faster and has got more responsive after installation of (full version of) SL.

  • High CPU usage after 10g to 11g Migration

    Hello,
    I have migrated some database instances via import/export from 10g 10.0.3.0 to 11g 11.2.0.2
I found that below SQL Statements mainly cause the high CPU load
    select * from (select null table_qualifier, o1.owner table_owner, o1.object_name table_name, decode(o1.owner, :"SYS_B_00", decode(o1.object_type, :"SYS_B_01", :"SYS_B_02", :"SYS_B_03", :"SYS_B_04", o1.object_type), :"SYS_B_05", decode(o1.object_type, :"SYS_B_06", :"SYS_B_07", :"SYS_B_08", :"SYS_B_09 ", o1.object_type), o1.object_type) table_type, null remarks from all_objects o1 where o1.object_type in (:"SYS_B_10", :"SYS_B_11") union select null table_qualifier, s.owner table_owner, s.synonym_name table_name, :"SYS_B_12" table_type, null remarks from all_objects o3, all_synonyms s where o3.object_type in (:"SYS_B_13", :"SYS_B_14") and s.table_owner= o3.owner and s.table_name = o3.object_name union select null table_qualifier, s1.owner table_owner, s1.synonym_name table_name, :"SYS_B_15" table_type, null remarks from all_synonyms s1 where s1.db_link is not null ) tables WHERE :"SYS_B_16"=:"SYS_B_17" AND TABLE_NAME=:"SYS_B_18" ORDER BY :"SYS_B_19", :"SYS_B_20", :"SYS_B_21"

Does anyone know why it is so??
I have gathered System Statistics and data dictionary statistics also, but had same performance issue.
    Thanks,
    Raj

    We have a similar issue:
    SELECT '', T.owner, T.table_name, TO_NUMBER(NULL), '', '', 0, TO_NUMBER(NULL), '', '', num_rows, blocks, NULL FROM ALL_TABLES...
It appears this kind of statement is being generated from MS Access 2007 as part of a translation to Oracle SQL. I suspect Access 2007 doesn't know about the 11gR2 system catalog changes.
The Oracle SQL Advisor indicates the following on the SQL statement comming from Acess 2007:
Restructure SQL An expensive cartesian product operation was found at line ID 5 of the execution plan. Consider removing the disconnected table or view from this statement or add a join condition which refers to it. A cartesian product should be avoided whenever possible because it is an expensive operation and might produce a large amount of data.
Restructure SQL An expensive "UNION" operation was found at line ID 1 of the execution plan. Consider using "UNION ALL" instead of "UNION", if duplicates are allowed or uniqueness is guaranteed. "UNION" is an expensive and blocking operation because it requires elimination of duplicate rows. "UNION ALL" is a cheaper alternative, assuming that duplicates are allowed or uniqueness is guaranteed.
I think application needs to upgrade to Access 2010 or Access 2007 needs a service pack.
There is also supposed to be a way to remove the system & sys catalog calls from Access 2007 on the PC this is coming from.

  • High CPU usage after closing a program.

Okay, this is annoying. Doesn't happen on all programs, but too many.
When I close an application, in normal way, alt+f4/press x/file->quit the program quits, BUT, "ghost" application starts, which raises to 100% CPU usage. Then I have to close it via sigterm/sigkill. This has happened (atleast) with mplayer, nvidia-settings (which doesn't even start, but cpu usage raises to 100% anyway, and ghost application starts) and WoW thru Wine. Now, I have absolutely no idea what is going on, and I've found nothing on google.
I think it became after I upgraded to 2.6.29 kernel, it's 2.6.30 now and still the same.
    A little help please

The nvidia-settings starts, as it shows on system monitor (htop, etc) but I am not getting the window, and cpu usage raises to 100% instantly. Terminal output:
    dfizzle@ohai ~$ nvidia-settings

  • High CPU usage running select from dba_ts_quotas

We recently installed grid agent on a DEV box and have seen out CPU spike like crazy at times. I have 10 instances running on this box (cringe), they are at different versions from 10 -11G. The agent is at 10.2.0.4.
I looked up the query that's eating my CPU and got the following:
    /* OracleOEM */
    SELECT 'table_space_quotas',
    USERNAME,
    TABLESPACE_NAME
    FROM dba_ts_quotas
    WHERE (max_bytes = -1
    OR max_blocks = -1)
    AND username NOT IN ('SYS','SYSTEM','SYSMAN','CTXSYS',
    'MDSYS','ORDSYS','ORDPLUGINS','OLAPSYS',
    'DBSNMP','MGMT_VIEW','OUTLN','ANONYMOUS',
    'DMSYS','EXFSYS','LBACSYS','SI_INFORMTN_SCHEMA',
    'SYSMAN','WKPROXY','WKSYS','WK_TEST',
    'WMSYS','XDB','TRACESVR','SCOTT',
    'ADAMS','BLAKE','CLARK','JONES',
    'HR')
    AND ROWNUM <= DECODE(:1,'-1',2147483647,
    :1)
    ORDER BY USERNAME
I've done some research and followed the suggestions:
There was a suggestion to set the following parameter: set optimizer_secure_view_merging=false
Disable Security Policty to monitor table spaces
    Nothing seems to help.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

I know its been a while, but though it worthwhile posting this for others viewing this post
Try the following from Metalink note #395064.1
    Symptoms
The following query that is fired from Grid Control once in a day takes a lot of time and it affects the entire performance of Grid Control:
    SELECT 'table_space_quotas', username, tablespace_name
    FROM dba_ts_quotas
    WHERE (max_bytes = -1
    OR max_blocks = -1)
AND NOT username IN ('SYS', 'SYSTEM', 'SYSMAN', 'CTXSYS', 'MDSYS',
'ORDSYS', 'ORDPLUGINS', 'OLAPSYS', 'DBSNMP', 'MGMT_VIEW', 'OUTLN',
    'ANONYMOUS', 'DMSYS', 'EXFSYS', 'LBACSYS', 'SI_INFORMTN_SCHEMA',
'SYSMAN', 'WKPROXY', 'WKSYS', 'WK_TEST', 'WMSYS', 'XDB', 'TRACESVR',
'SCOTT', 'ADAMS', 'BLAKE', 'CLARK', 'JONES', 'HR')
    AND rownum <= decode(:1, '-1', 2147483647, :1)
    ORDER BY username
    Cause
The security policy run against the 10.2.0.2 database which ensures database users are allocated a limited tablespace quota is creating the problem.
    Solution
    - From the Grid Control home page click on Targets > Databases > select 10.2.0.2 database.
    - Click on 'Metric and Policy Settings' and select 'Policies' tab.
    - Now search for the Policy Rule 'Unlimited Tablespace Quota' and click on Schedule link.
    - The default collection is every 24 hours. You need to disable Collection Schedule and click
continue button which will take you back to the previous page.
    - Also select 'Disabled' from the drop down box available near the Policy Evaluation and click continue. After this, the security policy which ensures database users are allocated a limited tablespace quota will not run and the statement won't be executed.

  • Missing Scenes of Project in iDVD after exported from iMovie

So I finished a project in iMovie, the project is around 1.5 hours. I've made it into 20 different scenes (chapter mark), but when I export it to iDVD there are 2 scenes missing. I already change the encoding settings to Professional Quality but it makes no difference the scenes are still missing.
    Anybody know what to do?

Yes, it is very clear and very confusing.  I don't think chapter markers are the problem.
Is the video all from the same source?  In other words, if the video in chapters 3 and 4 are in an odd .avi format, for example, perhaps iDVD is having trouble handling it and the video needs to be converted to another format.
You may also wish to try some of the basic strategies suggested in this forum -- make sure your versions of iDVD and QuickTime are up to date, make sure there's enough hard disk space on your main HD (15+ G on boot drive), delete your preference file for iDVD (plist file) since it can become corrupted, empty your iDVD cache...

  • High CPU load after resuming from sleep mode

When my laptop resumes from sleep mode, LabVIEW 2012 starts to generate a very high and always constant CPU load (25%) without any VI running. I need to close all front panels to get back to the usual <1% CPU load level.
This behaviour spoils my carbon footprint and frequently eats up my battery. Any ideas what is causing this ?

  • Keynote presentation very blurry after exporting from imovie 08

    1. export keynote presentation as Quicktime .h264 size 512x384. The exported file is a .mov and the picture quality very good.
    2. Import .mov file into imovie as an event.
    3. Create a new project and drag event into project
    4. Share/export using quicktime
    5. End result is .mov but picture quality very blurry
Any suggestions as to why the final result is so poor quality?
I have tried most combinations of file type/settings/filters.
    Any help would be appreciated
    jebriordan

I converted it to QuickTime using the codec and frame rate you mentioned, but when I opened the converted file in FCE, the video played but there was only beeping for the audio.
I'm not sure what you meant by making my sequence settings and my media settings match, if you could give me a step by step to check that, that would be helpful. (I'm very new to this, so I don't really understand what you're talking about there.) My camera shoots in .mod format. I think iMovie then imports my .mod files and saves them as .mpeg files. Then it saves my projects as .m4v files. (That may be incorrect. That's just my guess as to why I had the movie in .m4v format, because I didn't do anything to it other than save it.)

  • High CPU Usage On client application when upgrade remote SQL database

    Hi,
Is anyone here encountered very high CPU usage after upgraded the database from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012? Following describes my issue.
I have my client application running on Windows 7 that access to central database (SQL 2005) on Windows server 2003 using ODBC connection, this client application basically query data and perform data insert and update. There are a number of this similar
    clients connected to the database.
Due to slowness of the database server, company decided to upgrade the database server to SQL 2012 and also new hardware runing Windows Server 2012. There is no change on the client application and client hardware and the client application still using the
same ODBC connection to query, insert or update the new database server.
The problem I am now experiencing now is that my client PC where my client application running the CPU usage is very high almost hitting 100% when accessing to the central database. I am also noticed this program lsass.exe that utilized almost 40-50% of
the CPU time when client application accessing the central database.
Is anyone here know, why client PC CPU usage 100% when access to upgraded SQL 2012 database? What is lsass.exe program doing, it only appear when accessing to database server. How to reduce the CPU usage on client?
    Thanks.
    Chee Wee.

    Hello,
After upgrading, please rebuild indexes and update statistics on the databases.

    Configure maxdop on the instance.

  • Config Manager Agent - after Hardware Inventory High CPU Usage with WMIPRSVE and very fast empty Battery

    Hi there,
since a few days there is on some machines (40-60) a high cpu usage on one core (quad core cpu machines) with the WMIPRSVE.EXE if the HARDWARE INVENTORY CYCLE started.
i try out some tests, read some forum articles and troubleshooting the WMI management but a real problem i doesn´t see.
in some articles i read that hardware inventory runs about minutes up to more hours but some machines runs longer, someone more as 1 day.
here an example of mine PC:
at 8:07 i started Hardware Inventory Cycle, in the InventoryAgent.log i can see that some Collection Namespace are captured.
after a few minutes there stopped and does nothing round about 5.9 hours or better, after 21436.097 Seconds.
For any hints i am grateful. :)

Looks like something in one or both of those wmi queries.  it goes from 8:10:03 to 14:06:43 right around there.  6 hours to do that...
try running those queries from wbemtest manually; and see which one just never finishes.

  • Unusually high cpu usage with iMovie 6.0.3

I'm having trouble with very high cpu-usage. Just the open imovie app is taking up about 50%, during playback it sometimes peaks over 100%! The project file is pretty big (about 30 gig), but that is mainly because of the amount of footage imported into it. The movie itself is about 25 minutes in length. There is some audio editing going on: some soundeffects, musicfiles (no drm-protection), audio commentary that i recorded within imovie. I know that imovie has trouble when there is a lot of audio/audio editing involved and this project is probably a little more complex than other stuff i did in imovie, but i never had such problems. i can hardly use playback anymore. I recently updated Quicktime to 7.6.4 and Perian to version 1.2.1. Any ideas what's going on or how to work around the problems? Since the movie is about 80% finished i don't really want to start all over again. Thanks in advance for your input!

    Hi Klaus1
I have several plug-ins by cfx and the slick volumes 4, 6 8 and 10. I can post a list of all of them if you like. Up to now they never made any trouble, but you'll never know...
The edit in the timeline is about 25 minutes long. But the project file contains captured dv-footage of about 2 hours, so that alone adds up to something like 26 GB. Then there are a few rendered effect-clips done with some of the plug-ins like stabilizing or color correction which also add to the 30 GB, as well as some audio-files (some music, my voice-over commentary). I emptied the trash several times while working on the movie. At this moment there are only a few MB of erased audio in it.
It all sounds a bit like this is an insanely huge and complex project, but as i said, i have done projects like this in imovie without the massive cpu-usage. I'd like to continue to use imovie, but if this problem keeps coming up with future projects, i might as well take the step and switch to Final Cut Express.
For now I will try your idea of exporting the movie as it is now and open it in a new project file.
Thanks for your help and input so far!

  • Wake-On-Lan (WOL) after sleep causes high CPU usage

    Hi,
I noticed a problem with constant high CPU usage on one of my cores.
As much as 60% was used.
The problem occures after I put the system to "sleep" (S3 state) and perform a WOL with a "magic packet".
I discovered that ACPI.sys+0x1af44 thread was responsible (using sysinternals ProcessExplorer) under the System process.
If i perform WOL while the machine was shut down everything works perfectly.
My NIC is  "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller" and I'm using the latest drivers.
I discovered that if I disabled the option in Power Management for the device: "Allow this device to wake the computer", the CPU usage immediately went to normal (without restarting). But enabling it back the high CPU usage resumes. Performing
another sleep and awaking the system with power button "resets" the CPU usage issue for "good". Until i WOL from sleep again ofcourse..
I contacted the motherboard manufacturer of the problem but so far no real answer.
I'm saddened because I need the WOL feature.
I'm hoping somebody who has more insight in the behaviour of ACPI on W7 can answer my questions.
    Regards
