Hold button non-functional

Hi,
I have a second-gen iPod that's never given me much trouble before. A few days ago, though, the hold button stuck. I can move it to "hold", but even if I physically move the button to the side, it won't come off hold. It prevents me from using the buttons and scroll wheel.
The day after it began, I was able to flip it off once, but when I tried to see if it was back to normal by putting it back to hold and taking it off again, it didn't work. After some more trying, it worked again, but only once- and I haven't been able to get it to work since.
Any ideas?

If the feel of the hold button has changed then the connection or the motion has been changed somehow, through faulty connection or did the iPod suffer some sort of physical knock recently which may has not immediately appeared to cause a problem, but is now showing as a problem with the hold switch.
If you take the iPod into repair it should be obvious if there is a problem with the hold switch or not.

  • Download/Update buttons non functional after iOS 6 update

Updated iPad 2 to iOS 6 tonight, initially I had the problem when app updates don't start and just hung. Restarted iPad and the updates appeared to have stopped. Went to update all apps again and the button did nothing. This is the same with all new app downloads/iTunes song purchases/individual app updates. The button does change from the price to "get single" or whatever, but the button just does absolutely nothing when clicked upon.
All occurring over wifi, I don't currently have the laptop the iPad is synced with me but will tomorrow.
Can anyone help me with this very frustrating problem?
I have tried restarting iPad, restarting all apps, signing in and out with my apple ID, nothing appears to work. I can't see any downloads hanging in iTunes.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).
iOS devices can only be restored with the current iOS version.
No one here has any way of knowing if a "fix" is in the works, but that would imply there is an iOS issue causing your problem, this is highly unlikely.  More likely, something from your backup is causing an issue or the device has a hardware failure.

  • Power Button only works at startup, but non-functional afterwards.

    For a Macbook Pro 15
    A1226 / OS 10.6.8 / 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    (1) When the computer is on, and i press the power button , the shutdown menu used to come on, but does not now.
    (2) When i press & hold the power button, the computer does not force shutdown, even when i hold it down for 30 seconds.
    (3) When I shutdown the computer via the apple menu, i cannot start the computer up using the power button
    (4) However, disconnecting the trackpad ribbon cable from the logic board, then reconnecting, the power button is operational allowing the computer to start back up
(5)When I put the computer to sleep via the apple menu, it goes to sleep, and i can wake it up
    (6) When I restart via the apple menu, it powers down then restarts without any problems
(7)The force quit keyboard short cut will not work most likely in that it uses the power button as a shortcut.
So pursuant, to (4) above, it seems that the power button is non-functional after starting it up, and will only work after connecting/reconnecting the ribbon cable

I'm having a little trouble understanding the part about your password having to be reset. Why is that happening??
    Let's start with Firefox's settings:
    (1) You can configure the password manager feature on this tab:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Security
There is a checkbox to enable/disable the feature.
There also is a "Saved Passwords" button to review and remove any passwords you do not want Firefox to keep.
That tab also has a feature to set a Master Password so that no one can use your saved passwords without knowing the Master Password. You may need to exit Firefox in order for Firefox to ask for that again.
    Related articles:
    * [[Password manager - Remember, delete and change saved passwords in Firefox]]
    * [[Use a Master Password to protect stored logins and passwords]]
    (2) Site-specific permissions
If you want to use the password manager for other sites but NOT a particular site, you can configure that in the Permissions Manager.
In a new tab, type or paste '''about:permissions''' in the address bar and press Enter.
After the page loads, use the search box in the upper left corner to narrow down the list to the site you want to configure. Highlight the site on the left side, and on the right side, choose Block under Store Passwords.
    (3) Form autocomplete suggestions
Separate from passwords, Firefox remembers entries you've made into forms (in most cases) and lists the matching ones below the form field in a drop-down.
To clear a suggestion, press the down arrow key to highlight it and press the Delete key.
To turn off this feature, see this article: [[Control whether Firefox automatically fills in forms with your information]].
To review and selectively edit or delete form history entries, you need an add-on. For example, you could try this one: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/form-history-control/

  • Back button is premanently greyed-out and non-functional

I have tried all of the suggested fixes: disabling add-ons and extensions, deleting and re-installing the program, etc... but the back button remains non-functional, even on safe mode and after the last few updates. I cannot use the browser until this problem is fixed, and will continue to use Chrome until it is (even though I hate it and really miss Firefox). Funny thing is, it only happens on my Macbook Pro, running the latest version of Snow Leopard... it doesn't happen on my i7 iMac, running the same version of Snow Leopard.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, and have a great day,
    -Jim

    Hi,
Check the Font AppleGothic.ttf is active and validates using the Font Book app.
if you have to change anything restart the Mac.
If this is not the issue go to ~/Library/Preferences and find com.apple.ichat.plist and Drag it to the Trash and then restart Messages.
The above reply in another thread solved my issue! Namely that my apple gothic font was disabled, breaking the entire Messages app.

  • I cannot turn on the wifi for my 4g. The button is visible but non functional. suggestions?

I cannot turn on the wifi for my 4G. The button is visible but non functional. Suggestions?

Hello! Does the wifi button look greyed out? Here is a link regarding this issue: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1559
What you will need to do is to first to reset network settings by going to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings, NOTE: When you do this all bluetooth/wifi passwords will be forgotten. If the issue persists then we need to do a simple backup and restore.
Follow http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 and http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414 on how to backup and restore, when you restore please restore as new, do not restore the backup just yet if the Wifi is greyed out then there is a hardware issue and the device needs to be serviced. Please check your local Apple Store or call into Apple regarding service options and warranty status. Hope this helps!

  • Does an ipod with a non functional power button still qualify for discount on a new ipod?

I  have an old iPod Touch 2nd gen and my power button doesn't work. i was wondering if it would still qualify for the discount on a new ipod touch at an apple store.

What discount is this?  Never heard of Apple accepting trade ins for discount on a new item.
If you mean the Apple recycling plan, it is actually not run by Apple, but by a 3rd party recycling company.  They would be the ones to make the decision on how much you would get for your device.  Non-functional devices are not worth a whole lot though, so you should not expect much from them.

    - Next let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • How do I get to settings with a non-functioning home button - iPod touch5

My daughter dropped her iPod touch (gen. 5) and now the home button is not responsive.  It will not 'click'.  It is not stuck, it seems to have lost a piece under the home button and now is very loose and constantly down.  I am trying to use the 'home button app/screen setting' but I can't get to the settings screen because her iPod is in an app that I can't shut down.  There is no way to go 'home' or to 'settings' with out the home button.

Without the Home button being functional enough to access Settings and to turn on the Accessibility function which could provide an on-screen Home button, there is not much you can do.
Take it in to get it repaired.
    Cheers,

  • Hold button doesn't function in my 30GB Video iPod

Suddenly one day my iPod's hold button is no longer responding. i.e. I have been able to move the key back and forth, however with no effect. The device is hold all the time. I have reset the iPod. Even then, it is the same. When I approached Apple Service Centre, they said that since this is a "VINTAGE!!!!????" iPod, it is no longer supported. What do I do?

When you say "reset," does that mean doing a Restore.  A Restore, which is done from the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes, will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set to to default settings.  If the problem is related to corruption in the iPod's software or settings, and not a hardware problem on the switch, it may be resolved after the Restore.
If doing a Restore does not fix the problem, it is likely to be related to hardware.

  • IPad push button not functioning, why?

Along with issues that began with running my desktop and iPad through iTunes Match, I am now receiving an error message about inadequate local storage.  So, I deleted all my foldered emails, one-fourth of my songs, all my TV shows, all my movies, all my videos, and a handful of apps. Still get the message.
At the same time, I have another (new) problem:
The round push button at the base of the iPad:
Will not power on the iPad
Will not let me shift from application to application (can only be accomplished by holding down the power button and doing a reset -- although iPad stays stuck in whichever is the first application chosen)
Everything worked appropriately and all songs played before iTunes Match.  Since subscribing to iTunes Match, I am "benefitting" by having:
    unplayable songs
receiving messages about insufficient local storage
    the non-functioning main button
Can anyone help me out of this quagmire?
    C/C

Reset your iPad to hopefully get the Home button working. If that doesn't help make an appointment at an Apple Store to have the iPad checked out.
First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Just bought an iPhone 5C.. Safari is non-functional! A blank frozen screen! Any one else experience this? Horrid design Apple! It's your freaking web browser! Google Chrome works but not Safari! I may simply return this "upgrade" unless someone can help

Just bought an iPhone 5C.. Safari is non-functional! A blank frozen screen... What gives? Safari is Apple's browser for gods sakes! Google Chrom works but not Safari? This is nuts. This is an "upgrade"?? Anyone else experiencing this? Or should I just give up and return this

    Are you always like this?
First try a Reset: Hold down the home and sleep buttons, wait for the Apple logo, let go of the buttons.

  • How to disable MOH for "on Hold" button.

    CUCM 6.1
When on a conference call if a user presses "on Hold" button, music is played for all participants and nobody can hear anything. How can I disable music on hold for all users?
Please note, I could disable MOH for conferencing. But this is different issue. This is e.g. when everyone is in a conference (no matter what conference system, it could be ready talk, meeting place,...)and a participant receives another call and wants to answer the other call, in this situation I don't want any MOH played for other participants.
    Thanks,
    rdianat

I first tried "suppress MOH for conference" by service--> service parameters -->select server --> select callmanager --> go to "clusterwide parameters(Feature-General) --> change the "Suppress MOH to conference Bridge" to true"
This did not work. The reason is that these users are accessing an internet coferencing system like "ready talk" and not a cisco conferencing system, so for Cisco this does not appear to be a conference but it is like a regular call.
I only have two callmanagers which also serve as MOH servers.
Media Resources-->Music On-Hold Server -->Set Run Flag to "NO"
This is explained in "MOH FAQ" from cisco.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_qanda_item09186a0080094766.shtml#q21
The other way of doing this is not to assign any MOH server to the MRG or create a device pool without any MOH. (Media Resource Group set to NONE)
Although the above disabled the MOH, still the TOH "Tone on Hold" which is beep-beeps played every 10 seconds was annoying. So I increased the interval to 20 seconds by the same instructions in "MOH FAQ" how to disable / change TOH. Go to same page explained above but to "clusterwide Parameters(Device-General) and change "Tone on Hold Timer" Value to 20.
