HomeGroup Doesn't Work As Expected with Same-Named Accounts

Hello Community,
I am running into problems configuring HomeGroup with my collection of Windows 8.1 machines.
I have 3 Microsoft Accounts:
Personal: [email protected]
Business 1: [email protected]
Business 2: [email protected]
I have these 3 accounts added on two machines:
Machine A: Personal/Business 1
Machine B: Business 2
All 3 have the same first and last name.  So, when all 3 join Homegroup, there is only 1 node in explorer ("First Last", with the icon being from the live.com account, for whatever reason), and 3 nodes under that with the machines the accounts
are on.
The problem I am running into (besides there just being 1 node in home group, there should be 3 -- 1 per account, IMO) is that sharing libraries from Machine A\Business 1 does not show up properly in the Explorer of Machine B\Business 2.  For instance,
if I share the Documents Library, it displays in the Machine B\Business 2's explorer, but when I double-click it, it doesn't do anything.
Furthermore, if I explicitly share Machine A\Business 1's Document's folder (not library, the folder), the folder does show up in Machine B\Business 2's explorer, but when I double-click it, it produces an error dialog saying it cannot navigate
to "C:\Users\Business1\Documents".
It appears that when Machine A\Business 1 shares items, the shares are being logged into Homegroup as local resources, and not network resources.  So, when another user attempts to access them, they are being accessed with a local path rather than
a network path.
Is this a known issue?  If so, is there a workaround/fix for it?
Thank you for any assistance you can provide,
Michael

Hi Michael,
I cannot repro your issue in my environment. Did the share from your personal account on Machine A work fine?
Would you please test if the share from your business 2 on Machine B work fine? Let me know your test results.
Meanwhile, let’s try to recreate the homegroup and rejoin your computer to check the results.
If the issue only happened on business 1 account, please follow these steps to capture the behavior during the share and access process as you mentioned in your post by using Network monitor. If you find any error or unexpected communication
issue, please post back the log.

  • ArrayDeque as a stack doesn't work as expected with complex objects

    Trying to use ArrayDeque as a strorage for complex values <PSList<PSol>> (i.e. Arraylists of structured Values PSol), this doesn't work as expected. The code below should produce different values of pSLWk, being stored on bkStack, which are then to be retrieved by pop() to the variables pSL1, pSL2, pSL3.
    However, retrieval only ends up with three identical data sets (variables) pS1,pS2, pS3.

    Rem: I tried the simple approach as well:
    bkstack.push(pSLWk);
    ...

    Thank you for your comments, although I see we still don't have a common understanding of the problem.
    Firstly, I add the code for the PSList and the PSol classes, so you might find some problem with that:
         public class PSol     {
              private StringBuffer val;
              private int zI;
              private int sI;
              private int bI;
                        // == Konstruktor
              public PSol( StringBuffer v, int z, int s, int b )     {
                   this.val=v;
                   this.zI=z;
                   this.sI=s;
                   this.bI=b;
                        // == Getter,Setter
              public StringBuffer getVal()     {return val;}
              public int getZ()     {return zI;}
              public int getS()     {return sI;}
              public int getB()     {return bI;}
              public int getVSize()     {return val.length();}
              public void setVal(StringBuffer v)     {val=v;}
              public boolean hasVChar( StringBuffer ch, boolean delCh )     {
                   boolean bT=false;
                   StringBuffer fSt=getVal();
                   if (!(fSt.indexOf( ch.toString() )     == -1))     {
                        bT=true;
                        if (delCh)     {
                             setVal(fSt.deleteCharAt(fSt.indexOf( ch.toString() )));
                   return bT;
         }     // PSol
         public class PSList<E> extends ArrayList<PSol>     {
                   /**     Construktor 1: PSList(v,z,s,b) - makes list from single arrays
              private static final long serialVersionUID =  4711L;                         // ### JAVAC Warning! ###
            public PSList (String[] vS, int[] z, int[] s, int[] b) {
                   StringBuffer[] v=new StringBuffer[valDim];
                for (int i=0;i<valDim;i++)  {
                    v=new StringBuffer(vS[i]);
    //ArrayList<PSol> pSL=new ArrayList<PSol>;
                   for (int i=0; i<valDim; i++) {
                        this.add( new PSol( v[i], z[i], s[i], b[i] ) );
    /** Konstruktor2 : makes list from matrix array
    public PSList () {
    for (int j=0; j<nDim; j++) {
    for (int i=0; i<nDim; i++) {
    this.add( new PSol( new StringBuffer(sGuiArr[i][j]), i, j , i/locDim + (j/locDim)*locDim) );
                        /**     ------- Construktor 3 : PSList(PSList pS) - makes list as a copy of an existing one
    public PSList ( PSList<PSol> pX )     {
                   super (pX); // ArrayList-Constructor (Collection)
    // get Element <PSol>
    public PSol getEl ( int i )     {return get(i);}
         public int getCount()     {return size();}
         public int getTValLg()     {
                   int lg=0;
                   for (int i=0; i<getCount(); i++)     {
                        lg=lg + getEl(i).getVal().length();
                   return lg;
                        /**     ------- checkResult()     -     Check if alll elements are single char +dump
         public boolean checkResult(String messg)     {
                   boolean allOne=true;
                   for (int i=0; i<size(); i++)     {
                        if ( getEl(i).getVal().length() > 1 )     {
                             allOne=false;
                             System.out.print(" ");
                   else     {
                        System.out.print(getEl(i).getVal());
                   System.out.println("<C.R.>"+messg);
                   return allOne;
         }     // Class PSList
    Secondly, I don't really see what you mean by pointing out to 'only one "pSLWk" instance of PSList'. The variable pSLWk is the variable to be worked upon; after some change of the contents, I want to save this state of contents to the stack. When I pop that variable from the stack, I wouldn't want to restore it to pSLWK, but to some other variable, e.g. by public PSList<PSol> pSL1;
    pSL1=new PSList<PSol>(bkStack.pop());Again - to my understanding (which comes from old days of microprocessor coding... - there shouldn't be a need to know how the data came there, or what was the name of the variable who stored it there. And  : the implementation of ArrayDeque returns 'elements' of class E, not references !
    Thirdly, you're right, that the method of using a copy constructor for retrieval looks 'weird'. However - I had some other versions that didn't work either, e.g. the straightforward one, as I pointed out.
    And fourthly: yes, I'm almost sure that I'm messing up something somewhere. I went to this forum hoping to clarify that ... :)
    If you don't mind, could you please sketch a few lines of code, how to 'push' a complex variable to a ArrayDeque stack, and retrieve it - by 'pop()' - to some to other variable of the same class later ?
    Might make our discussion much easier, to see how things REALLY work.
    Thank you ! how can I avoid duplicates on contacts and how do I get contacts created on iPhone/ipad synchronized on my mac? so far it doesn't work correctly, just sometimes. same for icalendar

    On your Mac, for duplicates, switching Contacts off then back on in System Preferences > iCloud may prevent duplicates.
    On the iPhone / iPad tap Settings > iCloud. Make sure Contacts and Calendars are swtiched on.
    Try restarting your Mac and your iOS devices when items won't sync as they should.
    To restart an iOS device:  Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

  • Multiple controlling area with same chart account

    Hi Experts,
    can we consolidate multiple controlling area with same chart account in SAP BI?
    for example, if in R3 I have 4 Controlling Areas with the same chart of accounts, I can get an standard BW reports summarizing  them.

    Hi
    Chart of accounts i.e. 0CHRT_ACCTS is an attribute of Controlling area. This means each Controlling area will have it's own chart of accounts. This chart of accounts could be similar in terms of content values. So it is possible to consolidate and produce a report which provides a summary of the chart of accounts.
    Cheers
    Umesh

  • Webutil: webutil_file.file_open_dialog with filter doesn't work as expected

    Hi
    I just tried to open files by using webutil_file.file_open_dialog. Since I only want to select files with the prefix "brp" (e.g. brp0001.txt, brp0002.lis), I fill the parameter file_filter with the value: brp*.*
    This doesn't work. The dialog only shows folders, but not the brp*.* files. I tried with switching to capitals, which doesn't solve anything. With the filter set to *.* the dialog shows all folders and files, so that seems to work ok.
    Is anyone aware of this problem and know a solution? I'm using webutil 1.0.2 (beta).

    K..here's some logging. As far as I can see it's all normal, but it doesn't work (no matter if I use a last | or not). Should be easy to reproduce.

  • Changed AppleID doesn't work as expected - System shows old AppleID

    A friend of mine switched her AppleID in their OS X system. E.g. she changed the respective preference panel.
    Unfortunately, the switch didn't work as expected: If she tries to download application updates in AppStores, the system allways presents the old AppleID. Additionally, she isn't aple to change the AppleID value in the respective dialogs.
    Since she changed all places she is aware of, the system effectively prevents all updates since a far too long time now...
    Questions
    Did someone know how to effectively change the AppleID system-wide?
    Should she delete a certain *.plist file?

    The actual email address doesn't matter. Once it is created as an AppleID, it is just a text string that is used as the username for iCloud, iTunes Store, Mac App Store, etc. It does get used as a contact email, but you can associate any number of email addresses with that AppleID. The password used for the AppleID should be different than the email address, but could be the same if you choose. Regardless, there is really no link between an email account and the AppleID, besides the same text string is used.
    As I stated earlier, AppleIDs cannot be merged or transferred and the purchases on one AppleID cannot be transferred to another. Whatever AppleID was used to purchase the items has to be used to update them or reinstall the OS.
    It doesn't matter that she created a new AppleID. The purchases on the old ID cannot be transferred to the new AppleID. The old email address (which isn't an email address but a username for the AppleID) pops up because that is the AppleID that was used to purchase the OS. Nobody can change that, unless Apple decides to change its position, which I doubt it will due to security concerns.

  • Connecting to other computers on network doesn't work as expected.

    This is kind of interesting.
    I do this: From Menu Go > Network
    Then I choose either my iMac or MacBook Pro and double click the user name for my home folders on the other computers.
    A window opens up and the bottom right of the window the little twirling busy thing just goes and goes and goes.
    I notice the server icon on the Desktop and double click it and everything is there an access is fast, just like I expected from the first window that popped up. But it's still there, blank, with a little twirly thing (very technical).
    I get what I'm after, but it doesn't work the way it should.

    Try keeping your shares from sleeping during the expected period of use--assuming they are. If this procedure works, then you'll need to decide between the "lesser of the two evils."

  • Read Key and Write Key not working as expected with paths on RT

    The configuration file VIs Read Key (Path) and Write Key (Path) don't seem to work as expected (at least not as I was expecting them to) on an RT target.
    When working on my WinXP PC with these two VIs, paths are translated to what looks like is supposed to be a device-independent format before being written to disk. The path C:\dir\file.txt becomes /C/dir/file.txt when writing and vice versa when reading. On my RT target, however, that same path is written to disk as C:\dir\file.txt, unchanged from the native format.
    The translaton of a native path to and from the device-independent format appears to be the responsibility of Specific Path to Common Path and Common Path to Specific Path. These both use the App.TargetOS property to determine the operating system. In the case structure for these two VIs, however, there is no case for PharLap or RTX. (My RT hardware is runnng PharLap; I don't know enough about RTX to comment.) This means that the results of String to Path or Path to String are used without translating between the device-independent format to the native path format.
    This isn't a problem if you create a configuration file on one machine and use it on that same machine. I noticed this only when tranferring a config file from my PC to the RT target, where the target would not open the file paths it loaded from the configuration file.
    This occurs on 7.1.1 and 8.0.  I don't have 8.20 to see if happens there, too.

    In LV 8.2, this was fixed.
    The problem is App.TargetOS returns "Pharlap" on RT systems, and "Pharlap" is handled by the default case ("invalid OS target") in LV 8.0.  In LV 8.2 the default case is "Windows 95/NT", however.  The reason you could write and read an .ini file on RT in LV 8.0 and earlier is because these two VIs (listed below) were both running the default case of "invalid OS target".
    vi.lib\Utility\config.llb\Common Path to Specific Path.vi
    vi.lib\Utility\config.llb\Specific Path to Common Path.vi
    As you saw, this fails when you perform one operation in Pharlap but the other in Windows.  You can fix this by modifying the two VIs listed above.  Just go to the case structure and make "Windows 95/NT" the default case.

  • It doesnt work lazy loading with remote client (toplink)

    I am trying to use lazy loading in a @ManyToOne field but I get an exception. I have been reading in some oracle tutorials that it's necesary use -javaagent:.../lib/toplink-essentials-agent.jar for that it works because this argument activate dynamic weaving in JavaSE. I have put this command line argument javaagent but it doesn't work. Why? Can I have to do another thing? I have done a lot of tests in base to comments read in another forums but I only obtains an exception.
    Caused by: java.io.IOException: Mismatched serialization UIDs
    NOTE: The server use toplink and the remote client query the entitties through a session bean of the server. Besides, I am using Glassfish (Sun application server and toplink).
    Thanks in advance.

    At first, thank you for your reply.
    I know that I haven´t explained the problem too well. I have a stateless bean with one remote method that execute a query an returns an entity like this
    @Entity
    public class ModuloEntity extends Serializable
    @Id
    @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.IDENTITY)
    private Long idModulo;
    private String nombre;
    @ManyToOne(fetch=FetchType.LAZY)
    @JoinColumn(name="IdProyecto")
    private ProyectoEntity proyecto;
    The remote client invoke this method and in that moment I get this exception.

    If I look the server log, I can see that the call has not been produced, it doesn´t show any exception. It looks that the object managed by the server and the remote client aren´t the same and the corba service doesn´t work when remote client call session method. If I change the ModuloEntity and remove the fetch attribute then all this process executes correctly. The problem is in this attribute.
    NOTE: I am using the javaagent command line argument.

  • ServiceDesk software not working as expected with new Firefox version

    After recently upgrading to Firefox 5.0, I have discovered that the ServiceDesk software I use with Firefox no longer works as expected. This software is ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus 8.0. The problem is irratic but unique to Firefox. I don't have this problem with Chrome or IE.
    The problem is this: When I open an issue, several fields become active, one of which is the description field where the user who sent the issue typed the description of their problem. When editing the issue and the active fields become active, sometimes this description field is completely blank, meaning their description is gone, but not really. I have to close the page and try to re-open hoping this time, the description will be shown. Also, there is a tab for me to enter a resolution when I want to close it. I cannot enter anything in this field, or rather I can, but when I save it, nothing gets saved to this field, so the user doesn't get to see my resolution. The default font for ServiceDesk is Arial, but I know something is amiss because the default font is Times. If the font shows as Arial, then I know everything will be okay.

    I knew I would figure this out as soon as I posted it...
    This is the behavior you see if the SamAccountName field is not included.

  • Ping authorization via e-mail doesn't work. I have an iTunes account but must seek authorization for Ping. I don't know why this is but I never get an e-mail message with the link. Why?

    Hi. I use iTunes for podcasts and to burn MP3s from audible.com. It works great except PING. I need to confirm my identity to the PING server. It purports to sen me an e-mail but I never get it. Why is this?

    Hello Ulrich,
    thank you for your answer. Concerning the dataflow I agree and it is what I usually do. Actually I follow the dataflow paradigm whenever there is no problem (the 'false case' in the screenshot):
    “FW102x Initialize.vi” -> “FW102x Get Position.vi” -> “FW102x Set Position.vi”.
    Whenever there is a mistake, this just doesn't work with these drivers. The sequence
    “FW102x Initialize.vi” -> “FW102x Get Position.vi”  -> ///error/// -> “FW102x Close.vi”, “FW102x Reset.vi”  ;; “FW102x Initialize.vi”
    will give me errors for “FW102x Close.vi”, “FW102x Reset.vi”  and “FW102x Initialize.vi” reporting "session handle not valid". However, if I "bypass" the instrument handles directly from the first "Initialize" to "Close" and "Reset", they will report the same error, but the second "Initialize" will work again. I can even merge the first two frames and execute "Close" and "Reset" at the same time to do so. But whenever I try something else, e.g. do the 'correct' wiring, I am unable to close, reset or reinitialize. I have to restart LabView completely, to make the vi work again. So I guess the session is still hanging around somewhere in memory, but I can't access it anymore.
    Surprisingly, wherever I put Probes on the data handle wires they show the correct "ASRL5::INSTR" (with or without correct wiring). But only the "Bypass" wire makes the vi work. Since you couldn't find the drivers in the driver network, I guess they might just run into problems, if an error occurs.
    But thanks for your comment anyway. The problem is fixed for the moment. It's just that I prefer to actually know what I am doing here instead of producing some code I'd rather not show anyone.
    Carsten
