How can I get BT to listen & sort out a problem no...

Been having problems since Sep 2012 when I ordered my broadband & land line package. Paid in advance for 1 years line rental to get the discount. My broadband etc. never got going. Could not find out why. Since then has been one thing after another trying to sort. BT now demanding more money from me and will not listen to me re how to sort this out and instead want to engage a debt collection company/ take me to court for something that has come about due to their own negligence/competence issues. How do I get in communication with someone who will listen, explain to me where my broadband package is and recognise the contribution of BT to this mess & help sort it out? For my endeavours - I've been past from pillar to post - Extraordinary!

Events thus far –
Sep 12 – I tried to purchase the all in broadband, telephone line rental package advertised by BT at the time. After a number of attempts I achieved this and took the discount option to pay for a year’s line rental in advance. (I have the copy of the order confirmation and monies paid).
The new router did not arrive so made numerous calls but could not establish status/why my router had not arrived or how can we sort this out.
I sent in a complaint over the BT web site. I received a complaint ref no. Saying we will get back to you in 72 hrs. I heard no more! I then sent a separate email saying the same – what’s happening/how can we sort etc., to a member of staff @ BT I had been given to understand might help. I heard nothing. I was getting nowhere with BT who seemed at a loss to explain, despite my own endeavours to acquire the service I desired as was advertised. I was left with the purchase order confirmation and only the complaints acknowledgment as formal status – Outstanding/unresolved as far as I was concerned & had gotton lost in the myriad of departments/you need to call this number circle.
I considered that my only option to get my own broadband & line service was to go elsewhere and proceeded to do so. We are still in the month of Sep 12.
Oct 12 – By around 4th Oct I had my service at last albeit from another provider. It was for a similar ‘all in’ package where I again paid up front for discounted years line rental. I have itemised phone call bills from the new provider from this date.
I was still waiting to hear from BT re my September experience but heard nothing.
Nov 12 – Mid Nov I received a bill from BT for phone line charges for the period of 10th Nov 12 to 9th Feb 13! The letter went on to say these monies will be taken from my account on 24th November. Not being able to make sense of this, I phoned BT on 20th Nov 12 @ 3.50pm and explained the aforementioned. ‘ok, I’ll look into and come back to you’ or similar was how it was left. I got no further advice or explanation.
Notwithstanding my call on the 20th Nov, I now understand that BT went on to collect the monies for the charges to Feb 13 only not from my account!!
Why did this money get taken?? I still do not know despite my trying to find out and resolve.
Dec 12 – I understand this third party who had inexplicably had this money taken went on to recall the money (understandable) via the banking indemnity scheme. Meanwhile BT (inexplicably) credited this third parties account by £52.14! Around this time I received a credit not saying my bank account will be credited by the same!
Some of these Dec 12 goings on I have only recently established(Feb 13). Mad.....
Feb 13 – I receive a letter from BT dated 5th Feb demanding immediate payment for the monies that were called back by the third party last Dec!
On 6th Feb I get a letter from the Debt Recovery Unit giving me 10 days to pay these charges (line rental etc. from Nov 12 to Feb 13!) or else the full might of BT’s legal team & costs will descend upon me!
I can’t explain what it has been like since receiving that letter and my almost infinite attempts and correspondence with BT to sort this out. I’ve been battered with the ‘we’re right/you’re wrong’ attitude with no recognition or explanation from BT as to why they took the money in the first place or why they did not supply my, still outstanding order last September.
I have since established the BT were aware of my action to move to another provider by at least 25th Sep 12!!
I’ve tried & tried here, well beyond the call of duty spending something like 30 man hours on this to resolve. I’m left waiting for the knock at the door from BT’s legal team.

    This does not answer my question.  I apologize for my lack of clarity when I tried to explain the problem. 
    To clarify: I'm not using wild card characters; I was just trying to explain the behavior I get and how it's different from what I want.  Let me try again a slightly different way:
    When I type "jo sm" into the Search bar in iOS 7 Contacts, I want the first results to be the people whose First Name starts with (or even just contains) "jo" and whose Last Name starts with (or contains) "sm".
    Instead, I get all contacts whose Notes contain the letters "jo" and "sm" anywhere at all (which is many many people), and they are given to me in an order that seems random.  Therefore, when I type "jo sm", I don't see the contact I'm looking for because he/she is routinely three pages down the list.

    I know that I am possibly the most stupid prson in existence however I inserted a mini disk into the slot of my 1 day old 1st ever Mac ( a macbook).
    Needless to say from reading other posts here, and based on the fact that I cannot retrieve it I have discovered that this is a big no-no!
    Is anybody able to bestow some sympathy on the village idiot, and offer some suggestions as to how I can retrieve this disk?

    Welcome to the discussions!
    I have read that some people have been able to get those disks out by gently inserting a business card into the slot and pressing the eject button.
    Do not put the business card in all the way. Hold onto it with your hand and see if you can wiggle it under the stuck CD.

    This is how you set your sync preferences for anything that you want to sync to your iPad. This uses apps as the example but this is the way that you can select all content to sync to your device.
    "Click on" in the instructions below means to put a "tick" in the boxes next to the names of the apps in the apps list.
    Connect the iPad to the Mac and launch iTunes.
    Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
    Click on the Apps Tab on the right.
    Click on all of the apps that you want to sync,
    Click on the Sync Apps Heading.
    Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes
    You can go into the Music tab, the Photos tab, Movies, books and so on and select all of the content that you want to sync, just like you did here. You can make all of your selections in all of the different tabs in iTunes and then Click on Apply when you are finally ready to sync the device.
    You also have the option of turning off auto sync if you like so that you can make the selections or make changes every time that you sync your iPad. Launch iTunes and go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check the box at the bottom - Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically. Click OK and quit iTunes. Then connect the iPad, launch iTunes and go through the priced up outlined above.
    If you prefer to leave auto sync turned on, you can still go back and make the changes as described above, after the iPad auto syncs.

  • How can we get Apple to address bent iPhone 5 problem?

    I have a bent iPhone 5. The device had gentle wear and was enclosed in protective case. AT&T told me the bending indicates a manufacturer's defect and I should get a replacement from Apple, but Apple's online and Apple Store representatives refuse to accept responsibility. They will not acknowledge that the alumiumum frame is inherently fragile, more so than previous iPhone frames, and the device requires a higher level of caution.

    Apple promoted this device in part as a triumph of engineering. Thinner, yet very strong.
    So what does it take to pressure Apple to acknolwedge this product defect? And make good with its customers?

    Shame on you apple!  I have been an avid Apple fanboy for years.  I have owned all iterations of the iPhone except the iPhone 4.  I have always believed in your products.  I have sold five times as many of your products by word of mouth than I have bought, and believe me, I have owned pretty much anything with your logo on it that has been produced in the last eight years.  You were always a little bit behind the cutting edge, but I always bought your products because they simply worked.  Under the reign of Steve Jobs you did a superb job ensuring your products became extensions of the human body, synchronously living our day to day lives with us, device in hand. 
    Then I bought the iPhone 5.  From the first second, I  was a proud owner of a new idevice.  It immediately was placed in an Otterbox, where is stayed between cleanings.  When in the car or at work, it sat in a dock.  When carrying it, it was religiously carried in my front pockets.  Then when I took it out to clean last week, I noted my phone was bent.  Everything works fine.  Except for the contour of my leg impressed into the phone.  It is immaculate. 
    After a few minutes of searching the web, I was overcome by the numbers of blog posts, discussion board posts, and even youtube videos chronicling the woes of once happy iPhone 5 owners who are distraught about the conditions of their 200 to 400 dollar relatively new phones which are bent.  After visiting the apple store and being shunned by the manager, I was beginning to get the feeling that this was not the same apple company that would stand behind their product as they did in the past.  Apple's official response is that they do not cover physical damage resulting from abuse to the phone.  They do not consider their flubbed soft phone as a manufacturer's defect.  I was offered to repair my phone for 229 dollars.  It's not that I don't have the money.  I refuse to pay that on principle.  Again, shame on you apple!
    After speaking with management in their technical support department, I was offered a 50 dollar credit to use at the apple store on a new product.  I was essentially told they apologized for my inconvenience, but there is nothing they can do.  And oh by the way, you can't use the certificate towards the repair. 
    So at they point, I have lost all faith in Apple.  I have seen the gap between Apple and Android rapidly closing.  The apple ecosystem it seems has simply grown too large.  They have forgotten the roots laid by Steve Jobs in which the bottom line was user experience, not profit.  The adage, if you build it, they will come was what made you the juggernaut you have become.  
    My stable of Apple products is getting old.  It is time to replace my original iPad and the seven year old iMac in the office isn't too far behind.  Unfortunately, the sour Apple which I have recently eaten has me looking towards Google and its products.  Their cloud based products are getting pretty cool and my 1000 plus employee company has just made that jump also.  Migration is making more and more sense.  It is no wonder your stock price has gone down around 400 dollars a share and your earnings remain flat. 
    I am putting this out there in the hopes it is actually read and heard.  Leaving you, Apple, it one of the hardest breakups of my life.  I hope you change, I do!  I would still take you back if you got back on track, only I am skeptical that you won't be able to see past the arrogance you have developed now that you are too big for your britches.

Now I cannot update iPhoto because it came with the MBP which was still using the old account info.     What happens when you try to update iPhoto?
    Most likely when you deleted the old account you broke the connection between the MBP and the App Store. I don;t think there is anything anyone here can do to help. You will need to contact App Store support to see if they can get this working again.

    How's that for a dumb question. What happened was - I stupidly moved my Palm software to an external hard drive for a back-up of it. I had a HORRIBLE time unmounting my hard drive because of the message that it couldn't be completed because some unknown something was in use. I quit, restarted, deleted, redeleted, restarted, read all the help info on unmounting, did everything they said and 2 hours later, SOMEHOW my external hard drive unmounted. But ever since then, I can't empty my trash without bypassing this message 18 times!!!! "The operation cannot be completed because the item "Localized.rsrc" is in use." I've tried to spotlight it and it seems like it has something to do with different languages from possibly Filemaker Mobile which I use in my cell phone. I've tried to unlock it; its not locked. A folder named "Palm" and a document named "Palm Desktop" are stuck in the trash can. Any ideas?

    If you're an admin user, then do this:
    Rename the folder on your desktop with the items to be deleted, naming the folder myproblemtrash. Launch Terminal from the Utilities Folder. Copy/paste the following command to the terminal screen:
    sudo rm -r ~/desktop/myproblemtrash
    Press Return. Enter your admin user password when prompted. Within a second or so, the folder and its contents should be completely deleted from the disk.

    ps: I used "myproblemtrash" so that you could easily and correctly copy/paste the command for the correct, corresponding folder into Terminal.

    Do a long click on the mono-stereo button of the audio track. From the flipmenu, choose L.
    Copy the Region to another track.
    From that other track's mono-stereo button flipmenu, choose R.
    Voila, direct access to left and right channels.

    The title says it all. I shot three football games on the JVC hd-100u Camcorder in DV-60I, and another tape in HDV-SD60P.     Not having a time limit when using capture now has been known to fill a hard drive, effectively crashing the drive and the computer.
    The inability of cameras to easily connect via firewire comes up here regularly.
    Try this as a troubleshooting sequence -
    - Turn everything off
    - If you have an external firewire drive, disconnect it.
    - With only the camera connected to the firewire bus, turn it on
    - Turn on the Computer
    - Open up System Profiler and look for the FIREWIRE section.
    - Do you see your camera listed?
    If no,
    - you have basic connection issues - try the firewire port reset (do a search here on the forum)
    If yes,
    - Open up iMovie and try to capture a short segement.
    - Did it work?
    if no,
    - there is something potentially wacky with your camera settings.
    if yes,
    - Now open up FCP, make sure your firewire communication protocol is appropriate for your camera.
    - Try to log a short clip and capture using Batch Capture.
    - Did it work?
    If no,
    - you likely likely need to reinstall Quicktime. Read through THIS ARTICLE.
    If yes,
    - you may need to install a second bus for your capture drive. You do not want to be capturing to the system drive.
