How do I create email inbox sub folders

I use outlook express ( pop3 ) as my default email program and created many inbox subfolders on my desktop. How do I get iPad to see the inbox subfolders.

You can't - not with a POP account and not with any mailboxes stored on your computer's hard drive.
This is possible with an IMAP account with server stored mailboxes. All server stored mailboxes with an IMAP will be available automatically when accessing the account with the iPad's mail app along with all server stored mailboxes kept synchronized with the server with each email client used to access the account.
None of this is possible with a POP account.

How can I create additional or sub "Sent Mail" folders so that I can organize my sent mail along the same lines as the inbox? I use Mail v 4.5.

Thank you for your reply Don, but I had already gone through that procedure and it will only create new mailboxes for received mail. I want to create new mailboxes for sent mail, i.e. the first column being "to" not "from". Under the Mailbox menus there is an option "Use This Mailbox For" but all the options under that (including Sent) are greyed out. Unfortunately the View/Columns option to change from "From" to "To" changes all mailboxes not just the active one.

  • No alerts for push email to sub folders with activesync

    Hello,
I successfully set up my exchange server to push email to my iphone and my inbox and all subfolders show up great! I have rules set up with exchange that automatically put certain emails into sub folders, but I am not getting alerts when these emails arrive. I am getting alerts when anything comes into my inbox, but I have to check each subfolder manually in order for the messages to sync up. Any idea why this is happening?
    Thanks
    -Cody

When you are setting up push, it is really exiting to see that exchange will deliver emails to the iphone. I am an IT consultant and have multiple clients with multiple subfolders and it would be extremely difficult to keep up with all emails if they are only pushed only in my inbox. I have also encountered that if you reply to a message regardless if it is in your inbox or subfolders, the Outlook client will not display the replied arrow when you return to the office. It gets confusing after replying to multiple emails from the iphone and not knowing if you replied to a certain email or not. This is also frustrating because my Windows Mobile phone did this with no problem. Any one know when a fix for these issues will be released?

  • How do I get all my sub-folders from Yahoo to show up in Mozilla

I installed Mozilla Thunderbird on my Home PC and Office Laptop. On my PC all my sub-folders were imported automatically. On my Laptop Thunderbird is not showing all the sub-folders I use in Yahoo to keep my emails organized. This is not the local folders that I can set up in Thunderbird. It's the folders I have created in Yahoo for years.

Pop mail accounts can only connect to server, check Inbox for new messages and download from the server Inbox to the mail account Inbox in Thunderbird. This is how all pop mail accounts work.
You can get other emails in other folders downloaded by logging on to webmail and moving the emails back into the Inbox and then click GetMail.
Suggest you do this one folder at a time.
Imap mail accounts see a remote view of the server folders. You subscribe to see folders. You can also choose to synchronize folders.
If you want to see various server folders then you have to use IMAP.
You cannot change a pop into an imap, there are many differences.
Create a new exisiting mail account and make sure it is an IMAP setting before you click on 'Done'. Use 'Manual config' button if necessary to change settings.

  • Unable to view Inbox sub-folders in Mail on OSX Mavericks

    Hello,
I'm working with two Exchange accounts that have the same problem.  Both accounts have sub-folders underneath the Inbox folder.  After upgrading to OSX Mavericks, the sub-folders are no longer visible within Mail. If I go on the web and mark a mail in one of these sub-folders as unread, the unread count on the Inbox increases, however the mail along with the subfolder it is in, are still not visible.  Additionally, if I right-click on the Inbox folder and choose "Get Account Info", and switch to "Messages on Server", I can see the sub-folders listed there, the number of messages in it, and the size of the folder. If I click on the folder within this window and choose "Show Messages" it opens a new, blank, Mail window.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to get these folders to show again?  I tried rebuilding to Inbox to no avail.  I am trying to find a solution that doesn't involve recreating the account in Mail, if possible, as some of the mailboxes I have to deal with are extremely large, and to re-download them all from the Exchange server would take a very long time.
Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help.

    Hi all
    Same here!
The folders still show up on my iPad and iPhone AND i can still move emails into the folders. So in the context of "move email" all the folders show up. But as above, no email folders in the main menu of Mail. I am using an Exchange server too and already setup everything fresh from the start but it did not solve the problem. Looks like nobody tested upgrading an existing Exchange/Apple Mail setup to Mavericks...maybe because Exchange is to exotic. ;-)
Hope this gets fixed soon and I hope it raises some new ideas in terms of QA!

Mail seems to know it's there, as you described, but for some reason just doesn't display it.  Honestly, it seems like someone just made an oversight and forgot to put the little arrow in to let us expand folders that have sub-folders.

  • Exchange Inbox Sub-folders?

I have rules that move mail into sub-folders under my inbox, it would seem that these messages are not included in the message badge as new. Does this mean I am going to have to delete all of my rules and sort them manually? This isn't really going to work for me. I hope there is a workaround.

Well, after reading all the hype and studying all the literature on the web about how the I-phone will integrate seamlessly into enterprise solutions and use active sync by Microsoft to facilitate email from exchange along with Calendar and Contacts, much to my disappointment the I-phone does not synchronise email except for the Inbox, active sync does not work. This is a total disgrace given the marketing hype that Apple has put forth particularly on it’s website about it being the ultimate business solution for enterprise. This is nothing short of misleading deceptive conduct that people like me who have tossed away their Windows 6 phones for an apple phone on the hype based in the media only to find it just doesn’t work.
I think it is totally outrageous that Apple purport that this machine will do all this with active sync and it clearly does not plus it is impossible to manage significant email traffic just through the inbox, we all have subfolders to manage our mail (what the **** were Apple thinking?) I would suggest that we will get together on this and deliver a very strong message to Apple that it’s not ok and they’re to fix active sync immediately.

  • Notification of new email in sub-folders

    Dear all,
I have created several rules for my inbox so that specific emails move into specific folders. The problem that I am having is that when Mail receives a new email fitting the rules, it makes the new message sound and then moves the email into the correct folder but does not tell me which folder the new email has moved into. This means that after hearing that I have a new email I have to click through each of my sub-folders to find the message that has just been moved. Thunderbird does not have this problem with the same email account. Any suggestions? (Other than move back to Thunderbird!)
    Thanks.

Hey guys, thanks for your help. No I have definitely used move and the problem I am having is that when a new message arrives it moves into the sub-folder and no number counter displays next to the sub-folder. The strange(r) thing is that this is quite erratic - sometime I'll get a message, from amazon say, and Mail will move the message to the amazon folder and display a 1 next to the folder indicating there is a new message and other times it will move the message but not put a number up (meaning I have to click every folder to see where the message I got has been put).

  • Mail icon not updating to reflect number of unread email in sub-folders

    Hi all,
I have a problem with the default mail program on the iPhone, OS3.0.
If you have sub-folders on an exchange server and set for them to be pushed under the "Mail folders to push" setting, email appears on the phone and it even give you your chosen email alert sound. However the number of unread emails is not reflected on the icon of the mail program.
Is there a fix for this?
    Cheers

As neuroanatonist wrote, I think this is linked to Apple Mail (whether iPhone or desktop) focusing only on the inbox(es) for tallying up the number of unread mail, and notifying the user accordingly.
There is an open thread dealing with the root cause of the issue brks raised:

  • How would I create a set of folders in the /tmp directory using AS?

I have a set of folders that whenever I restart my machine they get removed (they're in the /tmp directory as they are temporary cache files).
Right now I'm manually re-creating those folders whenever I restart.
So how could I automatically create the set of folders on startup?
    I need to create:
    /tmp/fcgi_ipc/
    /tmp/fcgi_ipc/dynamic/
I figure I can create an bit of AppleScript and set it to run on startup...but I'm totally clueless on exactly what that AppleScript needs to be.
I've tried various "make new folder at ____" but nothing is cutting it.

    Consider ...
set base_Path to "/private/var/tmp/" -- path to 'tmp' folder.
set base_Folder to "fcgi_ipc" -- Desired base folder.
set sub_Folder to "dynamic" -- Sub-folder of base folder.
try -- Try handles 'folder already exists' error.
    do shell script ("mkdir " & base_Path & base_Folder) -- Create base folder.
    end try
try -- Try handles 'folder already exists' error.
    do shell script ("mkdir " & base_Path & base_Folder & "/" & sub_Folder) -- Create sub-folder.
    end try
... Naturally, you can hard code it, as well ...
try -- Try handles 'folder already exists' error.
do shell script ("mkdir /private/var/tmp/fcgi_ipc/") -- Create base folder.
    end try
try -- Try handles 'folder already exists' error.
do shell script ("mkdir /private/var/tmp/fcgi_ipc/dynamic/") -- Create sub-folder.
    end try
    ... or ...
do shell script ("mkdir -p /private/var/tmp/fcgi_ipc/dynamic/") -- Create all folders at once.

  • Notifications of emails in sub-folders

    Hi all,
I am using iOS 7.0.2 and having a some problem regarding notifications of emails which are delivered into sub-folders under Inbox.
Whenever emails are pushed into Inbox, there will be notifications appear on Mail icon. The same thing does not happen with rules emails, and unfortunately these emails are usually more important.
You help will be very much appreciated.

Ok. Found the solution to problem #1:  In each account, you can select "folders to push" in exchange...I had "all mail" set to push...it doesn't actually push anyway, and it also causes it to be reported in Notification Center.
Problem two, however, still remains. Thanks.

  • Email and sub-folders

    Hey!
I have an iPhone 4s and I sync my email from an exchange server. I have mail that is delivered to sub-folders in my inbox but these emails do not appear on my phone but I can browse to the folders and see the emails. Is there for these emails to appear in inbox on the phone.
    Thanks in advance!

The only way to get them to appear in the inbox on your phone is to stop the rule on the server that is delivering them to sub-folders. They only show up in the inbox if they are actually in the inbox.
