How do I password protect wireless access point router model BEFW11S4 ver. 2?

My wireless connection works fine when it is not secure. My model router is sort of old and isn't supported by linksys. I had someone else set it up with a password, but someone must've hit the reset button as it no longer is working.  When I set the "passphrase" for the WEP in the setup for my router it says it is successful. When I to my network it asks for the password. It accepts it, but then I get a message that says there is limited or no connectivity.  I also get a message that there is no IP address. When I try to "repair" by right clicking the properties under the wireless connection, it says it Windows is renewing my IP address, but it fails, then the screen where you would normally see the IP address says Private Address IP 169.254.240.4 but it still is not connected.  When I drop the Mandatory WEP and go back to the non-secur connection it works fine. Any ideas?

For connecting to network, you have to use WEP key 1, and not the passphrase. Rest you are doing correct.

  • Clear previous wireless access points?

i apologize if this is in the wrong category and if it has been posted before, I could not find it while searching...
But how can I clear previous wireless access points from airport?
    Thanks

Select Open Network Preferences from the Airport menu bar extra. Click on the Advanced button. Delete any unwanted entries from the list. You can also uncheck the option to remember networks you have previously jointed, if you want.

  • Configure Wireless Access-point

    Hi
Can anybody explain me how to configure a cisco wireless access-point in a combination of Voice and Data vlans.
    Thanks
    Mahmood

You would configure the voice vlan in the AP as if it's just another data vlan. You just need to make sure the wireless ip phone are able to associate to the AP and that the IP phones are able to reach the Call Manager.

  • Apple Airport Express - Wireless Access Point

    Hi there,
I'm planning to extend my wireless range and am wondering if the Apple Airport Express is able to connect to my wireless router (NetComm NB6Plus4WN Wireless Router).
I'm getting a poor signal from my NetComm WR downstairs and wondering whether the Airport Express will extend the range.
Lastly, is it easy to setup on Windows 7? I tried a TP Link wireless access point router but found it difficult to setup and wasn't able to get it working.
    Thanks.
    Vimal

I'm planning to extend my wireless range and am wondering if the Apple Airport Express is able to connect to my wireless router (NetComm NB6Plus4WN Wireless Router).
If you are planning to connect the AirPort Express to your router using an ethernet connection, this should be relatively straightforward to achieve. If you are asking if you can do this using wireless only, the AirPort Express would not be compatible with your router for this purpose. Both your main router and remote need to be Apple"n" devices for the "extend a wireless network" feature to work correctly.
Post back if you need more info on how to configure the AirPort Express if you can use the ethernet connection method.
The AirPorts are configured using AirPort Utility. It features both a guided setup option or a manual setup option.

How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

The Guest Network function of the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme cannot be enabled when the device is in Bridge Mode. Unfortunately, with another router...the Telus...upstream on your network, Bridge Mode is indicated as the correct setting for all other routers on the network.
If you can replace the Telus gateway with a simple modem (that performs no routing functions), you should be able to configure either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme....whichever is connected to the modem....to provide a Guest Network.

Hey guys, how can i password protect my files in external hard drive? I want to access those files both from mac and windows PC!

If you want a cross-platform solution that doesn't require the use of third-party software, use an external drive with hardware encryption. The device will have either a physical key or a numeric keypad. I don't have a specific recommendation.

  • How to find out wireless access point?

    Hi all!
I want to write one simple program which could detect all wireless access point're running around me. So pls somebody could tell me what I have to do now?
    Thank you so much!

    Dear prometheuzz !
I knew it but :) OS default can't detect AP which not
broadcast SSID. By the way why U said that Java is
not suitable for this task???Dear viethanguyen ,
Java doesnt have this functionality, cause Java is a High Level language, and what you are asking for is low level programming that is related to the underlying OS system calls and modules. So if your OS doesnt have/support this functionality, then how you expect Java to have it!. And if you are using GNU/Linux search for tools like kismet, air-snort ...etc.

  • Forgetting WiFi password, and not connecting to wireless access point automatically??

I'm using (until tomorrow when I get a MacBook Pro which HOPEFULLY won't have the same problem) a pre 2007 Macbook which is running Mac OS X 10.5.8. It was previously owned by my brother and passed onto me about 4 months ago. Within that time I've had nothing but problems with the WiFi connection!
The first issue would have to be that if I put the MacBook to "sleep" rather than turning off, it disconnects from WiFi during that process. Fine, that's to be expected. But when I wake it up, it's not only disconnected, but I have to re-enter my WiFi password in order to reconnect. Is there some reason that it will not remember the password through this sleep process? Turning off and on normally works fine, and it connects automatically, but not when it sleeps.
The second problem is equally confusing to my mind. In my house, we have a wireless access point upstairs (we have 3 floors after having our attic converted). All characteristics (name, password etc) are the same on the access point as on the main router downstairs. Every device in our house, included a couple of android phones, a tablet, and two laptops running various versions of Windows, all connect to this wireless access point with no problem at all. None of them have been "set up" to do so, in that they detect it as part of the same network and join it automatically. But for some reason, my MacBook won't do it? At first I would assume that perhaps it's due to the age of my MacBook and maybe some flaw in the old operation system, but my iPhone 4S running iOS 7 doesn't connect to this access point either. Is this some weird security thing that Apple use in their devices??
To make things even more frustrating, the MacBook's issue of remembering the WiFi password means that when I come back downstairs and into range of the main router, it's forgotten the password again and I have to re-enter it to reconnect.
Can some PLEASE offer some kind of assistance? I'm getting a brand new MacBook Pro tomorrow and if it's an OS issue then I assume I won't have it anymore, but I'm desperate to solve this issue one way or another considering this machine will be staying in the family and in this house so will pressumably have the same issues.
Thanks in advance guys! If I've not given enough info, just ask

  • How to Setup WRITTEN as a wireless access point to work with WRITTEN

    Hi,
I had a router WRITTEN which was not covering the whole space in my house. I was looking for a N wireless access point or a range extender.
The shop seller convinced me to buy WRITTEN saying that the Dual N will fix my problem.
well it did not. The reception in some locations is still poor.
the same reseller advised me to use the 350N as a wireless access point instead of buying one. The question is how to do it.
I am thinking about the following:
1- Have the WRITTEN installed next to the internet modem connect to the modem by cable
2- in another room have the WRITTEN (approx 20 meters away) not connected by a cable to the WRITTEN
3- When using the laptop in the weak reception area, I try to connect wirelessly to WRITTEN which should be also connected wirelessly to the WRITTEN
Would that be possible. I hope so since there is no way to have a cable connecting the 350N and 610N due to many reasons
    appreciate your help in adance

  • How do you remove a manually configured wireless access point on the iphone 4S?

I have manually configured my iPhone 4s to point to a wireless access point that I no longer use. How do I delete it from the list of access points on my iPhone?

You can only "Forget this Network" while actually connected to the network, so ignore iamjeremi's post. Other than restoring your phone as a new device, you can't if you cannot connect to the network anymore.

  • How to enable wireless access point for WRT300N

From product data, "First, there’s the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires."
I already have a WRT54GX-V2 setup to modem.
My intention for this WRT300N is to extend the network connectivity without any lan cable running along my house for those devices which only support LAN wire.
Try to search/google around, there is no hint/help to configure AP in WRT300N.
May I know how should I configure WRT300N so that i will be as an access point to WRT45GX-V2 without any wired connection between these 2 router.
    Thanks.

Is that mean I can do that with WAP4400N only if we want to sustain wireless-N mode?
Yes. With standard firmware, yes. (If there is a N WET wireless bridge, that would do it, too, of course)
Is there any way to configure WRT300N to connect to WRT54GX by wireless?
It may be possible if you can flash third party firmware like dd-wrt on the router (either one). I would suggest to check the dd-wrt wiki for notes on which routers are supported and which not. However, a bad flash may brick your router and it is probably not covered by warranty then...
If use wired connection, do I need to change any configuration vs. default factory setup?
If you can run a wire I would suggest this setup.
EDIT: as Ricewind correctly noted, the Linksys WETs are the wireless bridges. The WRE is a repeater.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Although I'm not familiar with the Nintendo DS you can use the iMac as a Wireless Access Point by going Apple Menu > System Preferences > Sharing > and selecting Share Connection from: popup menu: however you connect and the choose Airport to share to.
