How do I replace airport card?

My airport card was working fine at work, but now at home the Airport assistant tells me that no card is installed. Can someone tell me how to get to it so I can replace it or what my problem might be? Thanks.

It's not really user replaceable. You might try restarting a couple of times and then trying to;
a) repair disc permissions (Applications/Utilities/Disc Utility - select the hard drive and then repair under the first aid tab
b) reset the SMC (power management controller) by first shutting down the computer removing the battery and power adapter from the machine, and then keeping the power button pressed down for 10 seconds.
c) Insert the Install DVD 1 which came with your machine and running the hardware test - you press a key as you restart the computer. Note any error codes and call AppleCare.
d) Lastly call AppleCare or pop into a store - I'm assuming your machine is less than one year old.

    Apparently the airport card on my new ( 2 weeks old) MBPro failed. One minutes I was on line, wirelessly, then next ... nothing.
    I know that Airport was working, because I immediately fired up my 'old' G4 iBook, and was immediately connected via Airport.
    On the MBPro, even after re-starting/repairing permissions, etc., the Airport card did not show up in the System Profile.
    I returned it to the Apple Authorized dealer; he checked it out, concluded that the card had gone bad. Ordered a replacement, and was told by Apple that they were 'not available'.
    I called Applecare, who also told me that they were not available, and that they didn't know when they would be. The rep assigned a case number, 'escalated' the problem, said they'd get back to me within two days.
    Is it not unreasonable to expect that Apple is still shipping MBPro's that they do have a source for a replace Airport card? Any idea what their problem is?
    How long should I wait before asking for a replacement MBPro, if they can't fix mine right away?

    PMU RESET
    1. Turn off computer.
    2. Remove battery and unplug a/c power.
    3. Hold power button down for 5 seconds.
    4. Replace battery and a/c adapter and restart computer.
    It's basically just a power management reset, for some reason it helps your
    computer locate and identify drivers. I don't know how it works exactly, but I
    do know it worked for me. give it a try and let us know.'
    Though I sent this to the vender yesterday, for some reason they didn't try it.
    So that I could at least have the use of the computer over the holidays, I went
    out today, and picked it up, brought it home, and tried the above. And guess
    what! Success!
    When the computer re-started, there was the airport connect!
    I 'suppose' that pulling the battery, re-set -- something? Any ideas what
    happened, and why this 'fix' worked? I don't want to look 'gift horses' in the
    mouth --- I"m glad it worked, but was curious if anyone had an idea what
    happened to make it 'disappear', and why the 'cure' worked?

    The Airport card in my iMac has died and I want to replace it with a USB adapter.  I've removed the old Airport card but when I plus the USB adapter into one of the available slots, it isn't recognized by the OS.  Can anyone tell me how to configure this?

    The early iMac G5s had optional wireless via an Airport Extreme card. Later ones came with it preinstalled. If System Profiler (in Applications > Utilities) shows your Machine ID as "PowerMac8,1" it would have been optional, any number 8,2 and up means you should have built in wireless.
    The simplest wasy to access wireless today is via a wireless USB adapter. However, you can't simply run to the store and buy any old gadget. Most on store shelves lack the required Mac OX software support files. This one:
    Newer Technology MAXPower 802.11n/g/b USB Adapter + Plug and play direct or with extension cradle
    plugs into a USB port and comes with the proper Mac drivers. It's also faster than the Airport Extreme, which is limited to "g" speeds. It's also much cheaper that original Apple cards, which are getting harder to find. I like the cradle that allows placing the device for best reception.

    Push the card in really hard, until your hear it click - Mine was like yours, then I tried one last time to press it in real hard, and it worked... If that doesnt work, then you have a dud card, or your Airport slot is broken.

    I'm guessing there is a language issue here.  The graphics card is the actual hardware (chip) in your computer that allows it to create graphics and show them on your display.  There is no way to disable the graphics card on your Air because there would be no way to use it (it would not be able to display anything on any display).  This is a little different on machines with multiple graphics processors, but that's not the case with your Air.  I'd imagine you know what you want to do, we're just having trouble understanding your question.

    From what I understand, if I plugged my USB printer into an airport extreme base station, I can print wirelessly - without the need for bluetooth? Is this correct?
    Yes that is correct. There is no need for Bluetooth.
    For information on how to setup/configure your AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS), visit www.apple.com/support/airport/. On the right side under "Documentation" you will find the "AirPort Extreme Setup Guide" and "Designing AirPort Networks".
    To give your iMac Bluetooth abilities, you will need to purchase a USB Bluetooth adapter.

  • Replacing Airport Extreme Card in Late 2008 MBP - What to buy??

    I've limped along for about 2 years now with my wifi constantly dropping while everyone else has a strong, constant signal. Doesn't matter where I am, it's always dropping and takes ages to reconnect. I've tried everything advised on the forum etc and am now about to buy something else as my main machine. I don't want to get rid of my MBP though so am planning on installing new memory and hard drive and while I'm doing that, want to replace the airport extreme card. The MBP will then become my secondary machine.
    Problem is, I can't figure out what I need to buy to replace the **** card! Seems like a lot I'm finding are either for machines that never had cards or for 2009 or newer. I just need to know which card to buy.
    OR . . . hearing that they are a pain to get to (keeping in mind I'll have the guts exposed while I upgrade the memory and HD) and fiddly . . . is there something external to plug into a USB I should get instead?

    I'm already upgrading to 8GB of RAM and I'm planning on adding a Solid State Hard Drive since it will be a secondary machine. I really don't want to replace the optical drive too. At that point it's got new components in an old chassis with an old CPU.
    I've been to the Genius Bar (back when I lived in a place where there was one in town) and they couldn't replicate the issue but as soon as I left it started up again. There are times when it holds the signal for a good hour or more or days like today when it's dropping it every few minutes. It's completely random.
    No. This girl is going to go build her own PC with a fantastic GPU so as to kick some Diablo butt and the old Macbook Pro will only get used when I don't need it for anything serious. And I am most certainly not dropping another $2k + on a new MBP no matter how shiny they are! It's the end of an era as I've been using Macs exclusively for over 10 years now.

    I am assuming that the card is fried and needs replacement. I am having a difficult time finding info on what card I need and how to install. There is no slot under the battery. From what I understand, I have a combo airport card with bluebooth? The bluetooth icon is lit on the system bar, it appears to be working but I have never used bluetooth.
    Please help. I think I can do install myself as I was able to replace the HD on my own.
