I've got a Mac-Mini running OS X 10.5.1. I have tried to connect a HP DeskJet F4180 to the mac. Printing works fine but I can't seem to scan anything and I don't seem to be able to install HP PhotoSmart Essentials. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi I've got the same problem - I can print but I can't scan. HP's website says
"Most HP device installer CDs and Web downloads were created before Mac OS
X 10.5 was released, therefore not all device drivers offer scanning functionality at this point of time.
HP plans to release the first major update until the end of December 2007, which will be focused on All-in-One and Scanner drivers to provide scanning and faxing functionality. Until then scanning functionality is limited to certain HP products."
I guess we just have to wait until next month...

You can scan from HP Scan software or from the printer as shown (page #56 of the manual):
To scan to a computer
1. Place your original with the side you want to copy or scan face down on the left front corner of the glass.
TIP: For quality copies, ensure that the scanner glass is clean and that there are no foreign materials adhering to it. For more information, see Clean the glass.
2. Press Scan.
If the original is a document, the HP All-in-One scans it automatically. If the original is a photo, a preview image of the scan appears on your computer, where you can edit it. Any edits that you make apply to the current scan session only.
The HP Photosmart Software has many tools that you can use to edit your scanned image. You can improve the overall image quality by adjusting the brightness, sharpness, color tone, or saturation. You can also crop, rotate, or resize the image.
3. Make any edits to the preview image, and then click Accept when you are finished.

Hey... i am able to print using hp director M1136 MFP in my mac but i am not able to scan as there is no option for scanning in the toolbar of HP Director. Please Advise..

its a USB connection. Yes tried re-installing all the drivers, restarting multiple times etc. I'm realizing there's a whole series of HP devices that no longer support scan functionality in 10.8.2 but I cannot believe there isnt a solution(?) I can only imagine how many thousands of these multifunciton printers are still around (its not an antiquated device at all). I'll defenitely return my brand new macbook air for a windows laptop if the only solution is buying a new printer.

Large paper printing in Deskjet F4180

Hello,
I'm trying to use my Deskjet F4180 to print a paper the size of 21x100 cm. meaning, the width of a normal A4 (therefore fits in to the printer's paprt feeder) - but LONG.
I am printing from Indesign, on a mac, mac os x 10.6.3
I believe it should be possible because I did the exact same thing with an older model of deskjet I used to have (don't remember the model number), indesign and all. back then it worked fine.
but now it doesn't work somehow. I define the paper size at the "print > page setup" in indesign, make sure that the paper is fed from its short side, then get an error message from the printer saying I have a paper size error.
does anyone know how to do it?

Are you using 4x6 paper? And is the photo you are printing 4x6 or autofit?

Jerry, welcome to the forum. Since you didn't mention which OS you are using, I provided the Software and drivers page for Win 8.1. It provides the HP Deskjet F2100/F4100 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Driver. This will install the printer. If the OS is not correct, you can provide the correct one. Hi Billjames0151, welcome to the HP Forums. If one of these methods do not enable you to scan on RT: How to Scan Windows RT or Windows 8 Tablets
Then you should try reinstalling it using this method: Install the Printer Software in Windows RT or Windows 8 on a Tablet

Please see the how to scan guide for the Operating System you are using. Here is the list of how to scan guides, Scan. Select your Operating System from the list, then select How to scan with HP software, then How to scan a multi-page original text document into a single file. You will need to scan each page one at a time, and add it to the same document. The how to scan guide will show you how. After done scanning to the file, then see the link for How to attach a scan to an email.

I can't seem to find a way to get them to scan continuously, or a way to stitch them together afterwards.

You can scan multiple pages into a single document with the scan to PDF option. Use the following steps to do so:
1. Open MP Navigator.
2. Click One Clcik.
3. Click Save to PC.
4. Change the File Type from PDF to PDF (multiple pages).
5. Make any other changes as needed, then click scan.

Hello pf1tarac, I don't believe that is possible. In order to create a PDF file, you would need Adobe Acrobat or some other PDF compatible product to save a scan to the PDF format.
There are some free PDF programs available. Here is a link to one of them.

Currently I`m running version 7.4.00059.

Hi - Go ahead and follow the steps in this document to print the alignment page and run through the alignment process. Make sure you follow the entire process as stated in the document. If you don't finish the step to scan the alignment page, the printer will continue to print alignment pages.
