How many attempts am I allowed to open an encrypted drive.

Here is the problem from the beginning.
Apple had a recall on my HD so I proceeded to archive the entire drive using Time Machine to my external 2TB drive. I then erased the drive that was going back to Apple.
After receiving the computer I proceeded to re install the backup using the external drive via USB and starting the mac in recovery mode. It gives me the option to recover using Time Machine at which point I am faced with a password to unlock the external drive. The drive will not mount until it is unlocked.
The problem is that my Mac had automatically been putting in the password for the drive for years and I had never moved it to another computer so I didn't even know there was a password on it. Now my external drive isn't getting the password from my Mac as it has a new HD and so it doesn't exist. The disk was encrypted using Disk Utility MAC OS extended encrypted.
I contacted a mac specialist today and he said I am out of luck without the password. I accept that this is my own fault however I need to know how many attempts I have at cracking my own password before I accidentaly brick the HD.
For testing purposes I formated a thumb drive the same as my external drive only this time I know the password. I then procedded to plug in 20 false passwords and then the real one. Everything worked fine, then I tried 25 false attempts at which point the thumd drive wouldn`t accept the real password. At this point the thumb drive will not accept a password and is bricked. I tried it on diferent computers with no luck.
Is there an actual number of attempts at entering a password to un-encypt a drive. I am willing to plug in passwords for a week if I need to but not if I have already bricked the HD and have no idea that I have.
Thanks

It has been two days since locking myself out of the thumbdrive and it still hasen't reset (I enter the correct password and it turns grey and shakes). I have a hint for the password on the HD so I do have a slim chance but not if it's not accepting the password.

  • How many ports do I need to open for Java InfoView? - CR Server 2008 v1

    Hi,
    We are using Crystal Reports 2008 V1 (BuildVersion=12.1.0.114.CRS2008_V1). CMS runs on Oracle 10g. The product I need help for is InfoView.
    The report server is behind a firewall. I would like to know how many ports do I need to open and what they are so that I can access to InfoView (Java Version) from internet.
    The client's IT blocks all ports, except HTTP 80 and HTTPS 443. Is it possible to configure InfoView to run on port 443? Would one port be enough? Port 80 is being used by another application.
    I would appreciate any light to be shed on this issue.
    Thanks,
    Sinan

    InfoView will just need a single port. However CR Server 2008 has additional component who interact. I believe that CR Server 2008 doesn't allow a distributed installation so then the only port that should be opened on the firewall is to reach the web application and from the application server towards the database server hosting the CMS database.
    Hope this helps...

Thank you for your repsone. I'm not sure what has occurred but I am able to make additional rules, save apply them; quit the application and upon re launch they are there. I have no explination as to what facillitated the change. Thank you for your response and querry.

  • How many rows will be allowed in Cusom Section?

    how many rows will be allowed in Cusom Section? can I modify the max rows setting?

    I think the hardcoded limit in Admin is 250.  However, I don't think 250 active rows in a single custom section on a specification would perform very well.  I would try not to exceed 30 active rows per section per specification.  Performance involves so many variables, it will depend on the type of extended attributes you have used in each cell.   For example, if you had one section with 10 columns and 30 rows and every cell had 15 radio button choices the section would take quite a while to render.   If helpful, you can always submit your custom section designs to support and we can review it for any potential gotchas.

  • How many sessions does SAP allow you to have ??

    Dear Memebers,
    How many sessions does SAP allow you to have ??
    a) 3
    b) 6
    c) 9
    d) 12.
    I guess the right answer is B and C but in choices I have to select only 1, which answer will you pick and Why ??
    Thank You.
    Madhu.

    > I wanted to know for sure what is the answer.
    Hi Madhu,
    If you are going to ask questions such as these, then please indicate that you have searched and what you do already know and where & why you have a doubt somewhere which is worth discussing in the forum or sharing opinions or experiences on.
    Just asking for the answer only so that you don't feel too alone when answering 6 in the interview is of little value.
    Normally such "answer a, b, c, or d only or be quiet"-type-threads (like certification tests are) are deleted. That is the rules, and we have them for a reason.
    Anyway, you guys seem to have sorted this out amongst yourselves so there is no reason to interfere here IMO. Thanks for that.
    Cheers,
    Julius

  • How many computers are you allowed to install cs3 Production suite on?

    how many computers are you allowed to install cs3 Production suite on?

    >install it on an indefinite number of computers?
    You can put the install disc in 1 or 2 or 2000 drives... but that doesn't mean that the activation will work on more than two at a time
    Since activation is required to use the program... you are limited to 2 installs at a time
    As has been discussed in other threads, you must DE-activate one of your two allowed activations before you may activate on another computer
    PS - I think I have also read in the forums that there is some limit to how many times you may activate and deactivate and activate again (no, I don't know the number... I just remember that there was some discussion of such)

  • How many  installs of Aperture allowed?

    A while back I downloaded the Trial Version of Aperture 2.1.2 onto my G5, then subsequently bought the full version which was also a download. Entered the serial number & I was on my way.
    Now I've bought a MacBook Pro and would like to install Aperture on it so as to Upgrade to version 3 at some point in the near future. My question is how many computers are you allowed to have Aperture on? When I try to enter the serial number after installing the Trial on the MBP the registration is not accepting it. My only options are to Quit or continue using it in Trial mode for 30 days. Can anyone shed some light on getting Aperture legitimately onto my MacBook Pro?

    buzwah wrote:
    Would I be better to try to update the 2.1.2 to the last version 2.1.4 and then try the serial number?
    Yes, that is what I would try.
    You may also need to install the ProKit 6.0.1:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1318
    Here is another link that you might need to use due to your already trying to launch 2.1.2 which will have you move the file to the desktop (to the best of my knowledge this file holds the serial number info):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3231
    For Aperture 2, I recall the file is named something different but similar at the same time as the 'Aperture System ID' - sorry it's been a while since I ran the trial of that version.

    On how many computers an I allowed to install a copy of Acrobat Pro?

    According to the End User License Agreement (EULA) law, it is recommended to install the Adobe Software on only two computers and that is mentioned on the End User License Agreement when installing the Software provided the Software is not used simultaneously.
    However, you can install the Software on the third Computer by de-activating the Software from one of the older one and then install it on the new one so that you can avoid any error message while activating the Software.

  • How many itunes accounts are allowed per computer?

    Hi, I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle configuring all 80 of the iPads my business is purchasing.  I know there is a limit of 10 devices per iTunes account.  How many iTunes accounts are permitted per computer? I tried to just create 8 apple ids, which I was able to do online.  But when I try to sign in to those on iTunes, once I get to the part where I verify with a credit card, I can not get past the 3rd one. I have previously signed in with 2 other accounts on my machine, so I'm wondering if there is a limit of 5 accounts per computer.  Can anyone verify?  If that's true, what suggestions do you have for how to get around or best manage this situation?
    I'm not as much of a techie as I should be.. but thanks in advance for your help!!

    Hi allisonwfrom nc,
    The limit you are referring to is for a single personal Apple ID (not for multiple users) that is allowed to be associated with a total of 10 devices (up to 5 computers and the rest on iOS devices). Example you can have 5 computers and 5 iOS devices, 3 computers and 7 iOS devices, but not 6 computers and 4 iOS devices.
    From http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE
    Association of Associated Devices is subject to the following terms:
    i) You may auto-download iTunes Auto-Delivery Content or download previously-purchased iTunes Eligible Content from an Account on up to 10 Associated Devices, provided no more than 5 are iTunes-authorized computers.
    Again this is for a single user. For multiple users like in schools or businesses you need to use VPP to purchase multiple licenses. http://www.apple.com/business/vpp/
    APP STORE PRODUCT USAGE RULES
    ( i )If you are an individual acting in your personal capacity, you may download and sync an App Store Product for personal, noncommercial use on any iOS Device you own or control.
    ( ii ) If you are a commercial enterprise or educational institution, you may download and sync an App Store Product for use by either (a) a single individual on one or more iOS Devices used by that individual that you own or control or (b) multiple individuals, on a single shared iOS Device you own or control. For example, a single employee may use an App Store Product on both the employee's iPhone and iPad, or multiple students may serially use an App Store Product on a single iPad located at a resource center or library. For the sake of clarity, each iOS Device used serially by multiple users requires a separate license.
    If you are an educational institution or business you will want to enroll in Apple's Volume Purchase Program (VPP) which allows a single Apple ID to purchase multiple licenses of an app.
    There is a free OS X program called Apple Configurator that you can use to distribute the VPP codes to your fleet of iPads. Apple Configurator uses a single Apple ID to install apps on your iPads. Configurator will also allow you to install free apps on multiple iPads using a single Apple ID.
    There are a few things I recommend you do to get started:
    First I would watch the iOS Deployment Model Videos on the left side of this page:
    http://www.apple.com/education/resources/information-technology.html
    Then I recommend you read through these two guides:
    iOS 6 Education Deployment Guide
    http://images.apple.com/education/docs/ios_6_education_deployment_guide.pdf
    Apple Configurator Help Guide
    http://help.apple.com/configurator/mac/1.0/
    This will give you a solid foundation for managing iPads with Apple Configurator. Once you read through these guides you will likely have more specific questions that you can post to these forums.
    Hope this answers your question!

  • Counting how many times my app has been opened

    I want to be able to count how many times a user has opened my application, and so every time the application launches, this number is added by one.
    Does anyone know how I store a long-time variable like this that will still need to be available across different runs of the application? I imagine this value would be stored in the application's preference file in Library, but I don't know how to do this.
    Can any of you please lend me some advice/code to achieve this (I am using Objective-C)?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ricky.

    Hi.
    It has been a while - but I finally got around to slapping some code together. I have successfully created and retrieved the value from the preference file, but for some reason, adding 1 to my value each run is not working. It only adds by one after each BUILD. So I have to rebuild it every time I want it to increment. See my code below;
    [NSUserDefaults init];
    int numberOfTimes;
    numberOfTimes = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] integerForKey:@"used"];
    numberOfTimes = numberOfTimes++; //It is that that is not working.
    [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setInteger:numberOfTimes forKey:@"used"];
    NSLog (@"%d", [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] integerForKey:@"used"]);
    I can't seem to stop anything wrong, but then again it is late.
    Do any of you see any errors here?
    Thanks,
    Ricky.

  • IOS: How many updates per year allowed?

    Hey Folks,
    Is there a hard limit to how many app updates that Apple allows in the course of a year?
    Any first-hand perspectives would be greatly apprectiated.
    Thanks much,

    I don't think there's a limit to the number of times you can update your app, Apple should allow every update as long as it's an improvement like new features or bug fixes etc
