How to attach a document to an email without embedding it

When I attach a document or PDF to an email it automatically embeds itself - how do I make the attach?

If seeing the PDF embedded in the email bothers you, you can select it and right click it. Then select View as icon from the contextual menu. However this affects only your viewing. How the person/people who receive the email is not in your control.

  • How to attach a file to an email without using JavaMail

    hi everyone!
I'm trying to develope a program wich has to send email messages with attached files. Specifications say that I can't use JavaMail. So I'm trying to use SMTP. It's a very simple protocol, but I haven't found how to send attached files.
Any suggestion or source code? Thanx Very much!!!

you will need to add a mime body to the data as done in the example message (i found it somewhere on teh internet so don't blame me for erors in it ;) )
    MAIL FROM:<[email protected]>
    RCPT TO:<[email protected]>
    DATA
    Mime-version: 1.0
    Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary=OpenVMS/MIME.572522828.951855
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
    Message-ID: <572522828.0@>
    --OpenVMS/MIME.572522828.951855736
    Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
    Content-Disposition: inline
We have modified this to send with SFF for SMTP - TCPIP
    Services for OpenVMS.
    --OpenVMS/MIME.572522828.951855736
for info about how to use mime look at the RFC of mime (just do a google search)

    Hello All,
Regarding to the mail adapter, here are some updates:
    1. B1i will support sending HTML attachemnt via "Send Email" atom in B1 882 PL09. An example here:

  • How to attach files in email without embedding them

I am using an Imac with lion that is only a few days old.  How can I attach a file to an email without embedding it.  I spoke to apple care and they said after I attach the file to right click on the embedded image and and then click on view as an attachment. I have tried that many times but people still receive the emails with the image embedded.  I switched from a PC and have found that many simple things I used to be able to do on a PC are not so simple on a mac.  I called apple care 5 times about different issues and the geniuses did not know how to resolve the issue.    If this one doesn't get resolved this is going back for a refund.

I haven\'t seen how a mac is easier to use than a pc wrote:

Technically, you can't, at least if you are using SMTP to send the email. All except plain text attachments in emails using that standard are actually embedded in the message for transmission, separated by MIME tags that suggest how the receiving email client application (called "mail user agents" in the specs) should handle it.
The content-disposition tag tells the client app if a part was intended to be displayed inline (embedded) or as a separate attachment. Unfortunately, the majority of client apps do not fully follow those suggestions & make their own determination of what to display inline or as separate attachments.
So the best you can do is make sure the message as composed uses the appropriate content-disposition tag & hope that the receiving client app honors it. If you are using Apple's Mail.app try Don Archibald's suggestion, or putting all the attachments at the very end of your message (which may require not using a sig).
But this won't always work since the receiving app may ignore your efforts.

Thanks Jeff, I was not aware that a template could be multi-page.  (All the existing templates were 1 page)
But it worked, saving me some steps.  When I was finished I renamed the document, and locked it.
Then tried to save it but  could not because it was locked.  I closed it, went to my Spread Sheet Folder ,
to find it, it was not there.  The Finder could not find it either.
    So I start over again.
I opened up Numbers and it showed my personal Numbers template folder, it contained both my new
original 4 page template and the vanished saved document!
I tried to delete the template containing these document data and could not - I had to go to the Library/Application Support/Numbers to physically remove it from this folder. Then I started over again.  I Finally found out how to make it work: I can now "save as", and then lock, and it will go to place where I want it to be saved and locked.
The secret is: Click on the document title in the menu bar, and it opens up  "Save as...", which works the same as in OS 10.4.11, and you can pick the place you want for saving.  Once done that, you can then lock the document in the same pull down menu, and then close it.
I also found later that I can delete a template from its folder, by letting Numbers open the templates,
clicking on the one I want to remove, then go to the "Numbers Menu/File/Move to...", select "Desktop"
and from there the selected template can then be thrown into the Trash from there.
It appears now that the real fault of the Numbers software is that the "Save as" command is not available in the "Edit" or "File" pull-down menus, but hidden behind the title of the document.

  • How do I attach a document to an email?

How do I attach a document to Ipad email?

    Julian
Thanks, but I had figured this out.  Let us suppose you are replying to an email from the boss who, copying 50 Polish, Indian, Arab and Thai coworkers on their personal emails-- and with whom you have never previously communicated--has asked you to share with the group your latest drafts for the upcoming weekend top secret strategy session and now you want to attach something other than a photo, such as a slide presentation in ersatz PowerPoint, a draft marketing plan in fake word and the budget in pseudo excel? You are fly fishing in the pesos without access to a computer, only your trusty IPad which fortunately has the drafts you need and a wireless connection.  Because this new initiative must fly under the company radar screen due to its sensitivity, you cannot use the corporate VPN and the attach docs are too chunky to be in anything but a series of three emails as you have no compression software.
What is most efficient way to execute?  If it's to drive the two hours in the storm back to Santa Fe and use the local Kinko's, I am disappointed.

  • How do I attach a document to a email

I want to attach a document to my email, how do I do this.
    Thanks

There is a whole lot you haven't told us ... what type of document (e.g., MS Word, Pages), is the document currently on the iPad, etc.
If you're talking about a Pages document, and you have Pages on your iPad, I believe there is a way to send it from Pages.
If the document is not currently on your iPad, you can email it to yourself, pick it up on iPad's email, and then forward it from there.

Paste this into Terminal and hit return. If this attachment is text, it should work. Not sure about jpegs.

Good question - and one that a lot of (business) people would like solved!
Your question prompted me to do some research, and I found this workaround posted by Scott Grossberg:
His solution actually addresses a second problem too - how to attach a document when replying to an email message. In your case you may not need to consider the "reply" aspect - but if not right now, it'll come in useful someday!
I've pasted it verbatim - if it works for you (it does for me) then all credit goes to Scott for solving the problem. There's just one thing I'd add to his solution: you will probably want to rename the message, as by default Goodreader gives it the Subject line: Mail with GoodReader attachments.
    THE GOODREADER OPTION
    1.  CREATE the document you want to send.
    2.  SAVE it to GoodReader (this will require you to buy and install the app).
    3.  Go to your email and OPEN the email thread to which you want to Reply and attach your file.
    4.  COMPOSE your Reply.
    5.  DOUBLE TAP the message.
    6.  TAP SELECT ALL. This will copy the entire email thread.
    7.  OPEN GOODREADER on the iPad and go to the file you want to send as part of your Reply.
    8.  At the bottom of the GoodReader screen you will see an EXPORT icon (it looks like a rectangle with an arrow pointing to the right).
    9.  TAP the Export button.
    10.  TAP EMAIL FILE. Depending on your needs, tap either SEND FILE “AS IS” or “FLATTEN ANNOTATIONS.” This will open a compose message screen with the chosen document already attached.
    11.  TAP in the body of the email screen. TAP PASTE. This will place your composed Reply and the prior email thread into the message.
    12.  ENTER the Recipients’ names in the TO: field of your message.
    13.  SEND your email Reply.
The modified version (= when composing a new message rather than a reply):
1 Make sure that the doc you want to attach is saved in GoodReader
2 In the message you are composing, double tap, select all, and then copy.
3 Open GoodReader and select the file you want to attach
4 Select the export button at the bottom of screen
    5 Select e-mail file
6 Position cursor in body of the email message, tap and paste. You may want to delete the "sent from GoodReader" text that precedes the attachment.
7 Rename your message (as by default it will be Mail with GoodReader attachments)
8 Add the recipient's address in the To field.
Hope this helps! All thanks to Scott for this workaround.
