How to backup files to ensure future access and use using a different mac
I recently attempted access backed up data on my LaCie drive from a different Mac notebook. I was blocked. I didn't write down the message, but it essentially advised that the data was locked and I wasn't allowed access. I wasn't given a chance to enter any kind of system password to bypass the lock.
Here is my problem: I recently spilled some wine into my keyboard. Since then, the system has slowed to a crawl and occasionally weird things begin to happen, regardless of which software I am using [eg iPhoto, Quickbooks, idvd, Photoshop, email, and even dashboard]. I know I am very lucky to have any access to my files at all. While I do, I need to back everything up so that I can have access to my files later on. I plan to have my Mac serviced this week. I don't know if it needs to be replaced, or whether it can be repaired.

I was not trying to boot another system at all. Actually, I was working on a newer mac laptop. I attempted to load a dvd I had created in my idvd on the other mac from the LaCie. I was using a mac because I knew it had all the iLife software I needed in order to work with my idvd components. Honestly though, I don't know if the mac I was using is intel based. I hadn't considered it. Does Apple sell macbooks with intel? No matter.
So, let's see -- I was using the other powerbook to read the LaCie via firewire -- and yes, the LaCie has its own power supply.
If I remember correctly, the denial I received [when attempting to load the idvd file] knew that I had created it. I got the feeling that it wasn't allowing me into the file for security reasons. I just don't remember setting security. Incidentally, I just checked and I do not have a master password set nor do I have FileVault protection turned on.

My MacBook Pro computer’s hard drive is not booting.
I booted with the base operating system and ran Disk utilities and I got the following messages:
Invalid catalog PEOF
The volume could not be verified completely.
This disk needs to be repaired.
Disk utility can’t repair this disk. Backup as many files as possible, reformat the disk,
and restore your backed-up files.
The problem is that I have a couple of USERS set up on this computer, and it won’t let me backup the files of the second user. The folders are locked and I can’t access them, even though I am logged in as the administrator.
I made a boot disk on my other computer ( a MacPro Early 2008 ) desktop computer with the DiskWarrior 4.4 updater,
but it won’t boot on my MacBook Pro.
How can I backup these user files so that I can copy them back once I fix the drive?
or better yet, How can I repair the Invalid catalog PEOF on this drive?

Running Mac OSX 10.9.5Try using Disk Utility/Restore to copy the backup to a new location. Please note that this will reformat the destination partition which will erase all data.
Do a backup. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.

When you reboot, use Setup Assistant to restore your data. -
My iMac just crashed, and I had some documents open in Pages that were unsaved. Is there a temporary file or backup file that I can access as on a PC? (I have just looked in Timemachine which I had operating, but it did not seem to have any temp files in it at all - not sure what it would be useful for then).
Any suggestions?Question asked and answered several times.
If you didn't save, nothing is recoverable.
iWork apps don't create temp files so, as far as you on't save something, Time Machine can't archive it.

why do i get the following message when i attempt to open my backup file for lightroom cc? "Lightroom cannot use the catalog named "Lightroom Catalog" because it is not writable and cannot be opened". This message just started coming up after downloading lightroom cc (previously using lightroom 5)...am i backing up properly or not???
Open Pictures folder and move the files named lrcat-journal and lrcat.lock to Desktop.
Make sure that , they are not inside Pictures folder any more and try to open backup from Lighrtroom and check..
Any LRcat file with .lock extension , move it to Desktop. -
I'm getting the following error message from my Time Machine for two days now:
"The backup disk image “/Volumes/Backup Files/Burke iMac.sparsebundle” is already in use."
I haven't changed anyting lately and can't find the problem...Try just rebooting the TC.. or restart of the whole network, in correct order.. modem.. router/TC.. clients.

How can i delete an old iCloud account and start using my own using my Apple ID? If I don't have the old password??
If your device is signed into an old iCloud ID that is an earlier version of the ID you want to sign in with, do the following:
If you are using iMessage and FaceTime, make sure you are signed into these services with your current ID. If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.) Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID). Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless you are using iCloud Photo Library). When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device). -

If you are sure that you no longer want or need OS 9, you can remove it with the procedure below.
This is the method that cornelius posted, but the restart step, which is sometimes necessary, was omitted.
In the HD folder, open the folder titled System Folder with the 9 on it.
Not the one titled System, with the X.
Select all of the contents (Command + A keys), and move to the Trash.
Open the folder titled Applications (Mac OS 9).
Select all of the contents (Command + A keys), and move to the Trash
Restart the Mac.
The empty folders can then be moved to the Trash.

Windows partition corrupt, how to backup files to another PC?
Hello Everybody,
I have a Macbook with a Windows partition, Windows XP to be exact which now loads a Black screen with a blinking cursor and cannot get past that point. I would attempt to fix it, but I have done some research and found that chances are I will need to restore it and not get my files back. So I figured the most important thing to do now is to find a way to retrieve and backup the files that are in there. I can load the Mac Partition, but it just so happens that most of the files I want to save are in the Windows.
My question is:
1. Can I just pull out the hard drive from the Macbook, put it in an external hard drive enclosure, and plug it into another PC to pull out the files?
or
2. Is there a way to access these Windows files from the Mac OS Partition?

Lewis1. Yes, I think you can use that drive in an external enclosure. If you plug it into Windows, it will probably see both partitions on the drive but you'll only be able to read the Windows partition. This is probably your best bet for backing up your Windows files.
2. Yes, you should be able to access the files from OSX. Depending on the version of Boot Camp, you might have this functionality already -- check to see if your bootcamp/windows drive shows up on your desktop or in Finder.
If it's not there, you can use a 3rd party app to read and write to that partition. Paragon might be a good choice, and they have a free trial you can try to see if it gives you what you need. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/
There are other solutions, even free ones, to allow OSX access to NTFS drives, but I can't vouch for any of them. -

The restore from backup process is all or nothing, & if you've been told NOT to restore from backup, there is no supported way to "selectively" restore an iPhone backup. You can use third-party software to "extract" data from your backup:

How to backup files from old time machine to new time machine
I have been using an external drive as my Time Machine for about a year. I just got a Time Capsule. Can I set up Time Machine to move all the backups from my old drive to my new Time Capsule? I assume it's not as simple as dragging the files from my old drive to the Time Capsule drive.
I have clicked Change Disk... in the Time Machine preferences to change my backup drive to the Time Capsule. However, I don't think that's going to move my old backup files to the Time Capsule.boboosta wrote:

myRiazIt sounds like you need to figure out which part of the API deals with colour separation. It could be AIDocument.h or it could be AIColor.h. I'm afraid you'll just have to check the headers until you find something that looks like you want. You could also try searching the API for a piece of text that you'd expect to find associated with the values you're trying to pull -- that might point you in the right direction.

Slideshow transitions not rendering
